  • Is there a good way to archive historical data?

Our planning cubes become too big with 5 years of forecasting and budgeting data.

Is there a good way to archive historical data?

    How you guys do it?

I know a simple way is easy make a copy planning essbase cubes.  However, is there text, attachments and support details, these will be lost unless there is a way to archive a RDBMS repository data for planning.  Even in this case - all links and hooks of the Essbase cubes in these RDBMS repository will be broken.

The old fashion method is to print all reports in PDF and archiving.

Given that the plan changes every month, reprocess you history until you check in?

    Thanks for your advice.

This can be done in 2 ways...

    1. just make a copy of the old 'DATA' in text file or another essbase cube history. Clear only the historical data for the current application. This will keep other information as text in the intact cell. In case the user wants to refer to the old texts/support cell details they can do by going directly into the application and for part of data, they can look in old PDF report.

    2. a copy of the planning application to create a copy of the current request. Keep all old data, text etc in old app of cells. All previous reports also point this app. Then erase current app and can be simply provide read access to older data App users can be trained to use older applications for all historical data and current app for existing budgets. Also this app can be used during the period of archiving all data.

  • I have a lot (1000 hours) SD video on rapidly deteriorating the band I want to digitize and archive.  Should I export to AVI, MPEG2, H264 or...?

It's my first post, so if I get this is wrong, I apologize.  My question is as stated above...

    Hi Rob,

For DVCAM tapes, I highly recommend Firewire capture in the form of .avi files DV, which would be 100% lossless - essentially a transfer of data from a tape to hard drive - SAME data to different media. Doesn't get better than that. And keep backup tapes - I have a lot of DV and DVCAM tapes that are 15 years old and over and still read perfectly. Being digital, that signal will not be weird as old VHS tapes... you have a photo or not.

For analog tapes, then use the MXO2 capture with Matrox MPEG-2 I-Frame codec, which is intra-frame with 4:2:2 color and you can increase the data rate slider as needed to meet your needs for quality. Of course, you have the option of uncompressed with Matrox, but probably exaggerated and takes tons more storage space.

What about H.264, it is certainly the most ubiquitous format around in recent years, but it is "lossy" - highly compressed, so I would not really call this archiving for so many info is thrown when encoding. I think that the color will be 4:2:0, for example, most interframe encoding (not full images). If your MXO2 has the option 'MAX' that supports capture directly in H.264 format, for what it's worth.

The problem with the Matrox codec, or similar, is that it requires a PC with Matrox codec installed. But you will encounter in this type of situation regardless, years in advance. You might find yourself transcoding your entire library for a newer, better codec in 5 years, who knows.

The only media with proven longevity are film. I have 8mm films of the 1940s who plays back perfect on the original Kodak Brownie projector that Grandpa passed. Try to reproduce any digital recent or size of band in the 1970s. HA!

Something to consider about the archiving of your video library in digital - even if you have a RAID configuration with redundancy, you'll want all the files that are duplicated on another drive to safety. Readers can and do fail. And readers also die after several years (or less) while just sitting on a shelf, they become just unreadable. You must therefore have a backup AND move the data to newer media after a few years without danger or risk losing everything.

    Thank you

  • Differences between the capture and archiving

We are upgrading 3 to 4.0.2 and I try to get a handle on what changes to documentation and training, I need to do. What is the difference between the capture at the library and archives at the library?

I played with 4 and so far what I've found is that the archived configurations cannot be marked as masters gold, but can make full clones (you can get the equivalent in a configuration captured by consolidating each VM in the captured configuration, but archive will do all at the same time). Are there other differences?

    Archives

    capture

    State saved (if expanded)

    YES

    YES

    can be shared and livelink

    YES

    YES

    uses the default storage lease

    YES

    YES

    can mark as master gold

    NO.

    YES

    can do full clone

    YES

    NO.

    Thank you very much.

you are right they are very similar characteristics (from Lab Manager 3 and stage manager)

If you check in & full clone, so I think that you can select a different data store.  If you use capture and consolidate... you have not reached the warehouses of data... esp if you run out of space.

It is the only other difference I can think.

    Kind regards

  • Difference between redo logfiles, Undo Tablespace, Archive log data file

Can some please highlight the difference between Undo and Redo Logs
Also why we need to separate the archive logs when the recovery log data can be written directly in data files...

Help you will be highly appreciated...

    Hello

Ed gave you a very good answer.

Rememeber database files are online and they are written to by DBWR process. So we have the database files, redo log files and archive logs.
In order to avoid all the crawl log when you perform a recovery, database performs control points that summarize the State of the database. This operation of control point provides a shortcut to the recovery. At the checkpoint, the database knows that all incorrect pages were written to disk (for example, database files). At the time of recovery, the log (which includes-finished and unfinished transactions) is used to bring the database to a consistent state. The system locates the time of the last checkpoint and returned to this position in the log file. Then he restores forward all completed transactions (read committed) that occurred after the last checkpoint and rolls back all transactions that were not committed, but that began before the last checkpoint. This is where online log files are used.

Now imagine that you need to back up your database GB 100 + all 10 minutes. It would be a waste of space! So you take a backup of your database at time t and backups of archiver process redo logs periodically to check the newspapers so that redo log files can be replaced and RMAN will use the last backup and archive the log files to recover your database at the time.

Now, I mentioned the checkpoint process. The Checkpoint process regularly launches a control point that uses DBWR to rewrite all the blocks Sales in the data files, so synchronize the database. Imagine one dam is running and have exhausted all the redo log files. At this point, Oracle will wait until all Sales already queued blocks have been written to the buffer on disk (database files) foremost him redo log files can be considered as superfluous and available for re-use (i.e. can be overwritten). This will result in the following message in the alert.log:

Thread 1 advanced to log sequence 17973
      Current log# 3 seq# 17973 mem# 0: /oracle/data/HAM1/log3aHAM1.dbf
      Current log# 3 seq# 17973 mem# 1: /oracle/data/HAM1/log3bHAM1.dbf
Thread 1 cannot allocate new log, sequence 17974
    Checkpoint not complete
      Current log# 3 seq# 17973 mem# 0: /oracle/data/HAM1/log3aHAM1.dbf
      Current log# 3 seq# 17973 mem# 1: /oracle/data/HAM1/log3bHAM1.dbf
Thread 1 advanced to log sequence 17974

I am sure you have done the following:

    alter database mount;

    Database altered.

When you mount a database, Oracle combines the instance started the database. Oracle control files are opened and read. However, no checking such as the restore/recovery is performed

    alter database open;

    Database altered.

An open command opens the data files, recovery logs, it performs automatic and consistency of database recovery. At this point, the database is now ready to be used by all valid users.

  • Archives old data of Essbase database

Running Essbase 6.5.3. (I know, it's old, but...) Running UNIX.

I have a database of Essbase with data from 2002. I want to archive all data prior to 2006. I always have these data available for users in a separate database, but wants to reduce the amount of data in our primary database. Does anyone have the steps to do this?

I was intending to make a copy of the application/database active using the Regional service. Perform export/import of data of level 0. My problem is that I don't know exactly how to divide the export files.

I read a few forum messages that suggested using grep against the export file to divide the old data new data. I know how to use grep, but don't know exactly what to grep for the file. Initially, I thought I could grep based on the period (Jan_02, Feb_02, etc.), but after looking at the export file, there are lines that do not have these data. It looks like these lines of type, maybe "header." Do I need to include all type header lines in the 'current' and 'old' files?

Also, FYI, the export file is too large to open in vi, which makes it a little more interesting.

I wouldn't try to manipulate the export files.

Simply copy the existing application to a new application with the data and then open the outline and remove unwanted members of the year. Save and restructure the contour and you'll have your archived data.

Another option would be to use a rule of data loading to load the export file. As a rule set column properties to select or reject the required years and load files.

  • Redo and Archives association Journal

    Hello
I am curious about the redo file and archive log file association, is one to one or one to many? In other words, is a log of arc file does hold data to a single file or several files to redo?
Or is the Group of redo of file association arc rather than redo the file to arc file?

The size of the bow on my machine logs, sometimes exceeds much the size of a single file to roll forward and will sometimes well below the size.

    Thank you.

Files redo archive log means (as it may seem his name) again save file which has been archived. It's the same thing as a redo log file. Sometimes your databsae can have checkpoint and log change before redo log fills then you can get different sizes of archived redo log file. But this isn't more combination of a redo log file, it's just a copy of a redo log file

I'm with an internet provider that has limited use of data per month. If I close Thunderbird when done using it it is still running in the background and using the data or is it closed here for not to retrieve messages or using the data?

When you close Thunderbird, it cannot check or retrieve new messages.
Not sure what you mean with "always running in the background.
When you close Thunderbird is closed. Period.

Do you still have the MBP? If so you can manually copy and paste the files you need.

If you do not have the pro more, you need to buy a USB key and plug it into the MBA... use it as a target. Once you have a system file of the previous laptop again, you have to manually choose what to copy across.

How to view the monthly/annual statistics in terms of time past/calories burned, broken down by each individual activity such as run elliptical/outside etc. Y at - it a third party application that can help me to collect and display these data?

    Hello

It is not currently possible to review the data the application integrated in activity or training on this basis. If you want Apple to consider adding this feature, you can suggest here:

    https://www.Apple.com/feedback/watch.html

However, health and fitness data from other sources, iPhone, and Apple Watch are registered and grouped within the health on iPhone app. These data can be exported, which you may find useful to track the cumulative progress and/or analyze your activity more in detail.

IPhone app activity also has a button for sharing (top right of the screen) that allows to share data - including social media, Messages, Mail, Notes, and a printer.

Include third-party applications that can be useful, for example:

    Access to QS

-"Access your HealthKit data in a table so you can Explorer using numbers, Excel, R, or any other tool compatible CSV."

    SpectaRun workouts

-"View from the workouts of your Apple Watch on your iPhone and to export these workouts so you can download them to your favorite online running community."

Data can also be exported directly from the application of the health (Health Data > All - Share at the top button on the right).

Check the descriptions and support resources for third party applications for supported details of import and data analysis features.

  • Apple music and use of data in offline mode

I need someone to address this concern:

I downloaded a number of playlists and songs on my iPhone for offline listening. Even though I'm in my car, I have to listen to these songs & playlists. I noticed that I always use data for the application of music and also some data in my system services on my iPhone.

Why is this happening? I was under the assumption that if I listen to the music that has been downloaded for listening offline, there is no use of data...

    Thank you

Your music will be always connect to Apple and validate that you have an active Apple music subscription so that you can play music downloaded in offline mode. I suspect that's what you see, unless the use of data is important.
