Cisco UCS C240M4 ESXi installation

We are trying to install ESXi on Cisco UCS C240M4 server and during loading of the VMware purple screen with the following error

NOT_IMPLEMENTED bora/vmkernel/hardware/apic.c:1897.

I have seen this problem when the image is not a custom image from Cisco... try the custom image and let us know...

Is it me or you have problems with installation of an OS (ESXi 4.1) who no longer supported by the vendor (VMware): http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US&cmd...

  • Cisco UCS C240M4 Esxi installation version 5.0 cisco custom image do not start

    Hi all

We are trying to install ESXi 5.0 on Cisco UCS C240M4 server and during loading of the VMware purple screen with the following error

    Bora/vmkernel/hardware/apic.c:1913 and bora/vmkernel/hardware/apic.c:1915 NOT_IMPLEMENTED NOT_IMPLEMENTED.

    Greetings.

ESXi 5.1 U2 is the first supported by Cisco for the C240M4. See matrix interop

I suspect that older versions 5.0 and earlier versions will have problems with the latest chipsets, as well as the lack of 12 GB storage controller drivers.

You will want to check the interop matrix for which OS versions are supported as well as different levels of driver for the network cards, storage, etc.

    Thank you

  • Cisco C220 M3 - ESXi installation - is ESXi free?

    Hi guys,.

I want to install ESXi Server C220 M3. I think that ESXi is free but I'm not sure. Do need me a permit for the Cisco custom ESXi image?

I also have another server C220 M3 distinct from each other. For this one, I have a license vSphere Enterprise license. Do I need another license of ESXi here?

    Thank you.

At the end of 60 days, to change the 'license' to the ESXi installation to get a perpetual license (with much reduced features) key of VMware.

Basis of VMware and virtuallisation managed with the vi client is included in the free license, but no vCenter and all the goodies that come with it.

  • Service profile of the CISCO UCS for ESXi

Do you need multiple boot LUN on the storage array for each host that you want to apply the service profile to? I'm just confused, let's say I have 12 blades that I want to designate as boot SAN for ESXi, y aura-t 12 profiles of separate service for each of them, and will need me 12 different LUNS on our storage? I am new to this and I just want to make it as clean as possible! Any help is appreciated.

    Hi Justin,

You can have the same LUN ID for multiple service profiles, as well as the same target ID. However, your initiators will be different and you will need to configure the zoning on your switch upstream if you use the end host mode.

Here is a good guide, review the basics and how to put in place.

  • How can Cisco ucs c220 m4 I start with 12g cisco sas controller? 2012 UEFI Server installation issues

first time with cisco ucs c220 m4, check my photos

    You have a VD 11TB.

Only way to start on this is by using UEFI.

You need to activate UEFI in the boot order.

Anything over 2 TB and more 4 K sector size readers require the UEFI boot option.

BIOS will not process the VDs when manages UEFI.

    Kirk...

Summary for those who seek a similar question:

    • Client a large VD created, 11TB
    • 2 TB and more, 4K sector drives, require boot UEFI + GPT, cannot use the legacy/MBR
    • To set startup to local HD option, that referenced the PCI-E Slot, the raid controller was in (HBA slot in this case)
    • UEFI mode, can't score a VD as "bootable disk / startup.
    • You will see not the VD/raid controller appear in the 'real' boot order during the OS install.
    • Once the installation of the OS compatible UEFI is made, it will create a UEFI boot to the operating system "Windows Boot Manager" entry in our case.
    • After the next reboot, if you check your boot order, you should see this UEFI OS boot manager entry.

    Hello

I just want to check is one have tried to install VMware vSphere 5.1 on Cisco UCS blades? I was fine that some items and come to know that if you want to install vSphere 5.1, you have to first upgrade the firmware 2.0 (4A or 4B), and only then you can install / upgrade the 5.1 vSphere

If anyone has a sine qua non for the installation of vSphere 5.1 on B200M2 & B200M3 to share the same

    -Amit

    Hello Amit,

The UCS SW/HW interoperability tool should answer your questions.  5.1 ESXi is supported of the UCS 2.0 (4) and later versions.  Install the OS, and then update the drivers enic & fnic from the ISO driver available on cisco.com

  • Cisco UCS C210 M2: PXE - E61: Media test failure, check cable of

    Hello

I'm working on Cisco UCS C210 M2 servers. I got 10 146 GB SAS HD with LSI MegaRAID Raid Controller. I did run the Raid Controller and choose RAID6. After that I installed ESXi and it said to reboot the server. Now, when I restart the server I get the following error message:

PXE - E61: Media test failure, check cable of

PXE - M0F: Exit Boradcom PXE ROM

Restart, and then select proper boot service

or Insert Boot Media in some boot device and press a key

Any suggestions how I can solve this problem.

    Thank you.

You will need to go into the Bios of the controller LSI MegaRaid (Ctrl + H) and select the option of virtual drives on the left. When the virtual command window opens, you must select the drive (Raid Volume) on which you want your drive master boot and underneath there will be an option to set as your boot device. Apply and save.

  • Cisco UCS C240 M3 questions

    Hello

I'm trying to install VMWare ESXi on a Cisco UCS C240 M3 and have a few problems.

I configured the other servers before, but never a Cisco UCS.

    Firmware versions

v1.5 (7 c) I could not load the KVM as I have a problem of Java. I am running Java v1.6.0_27 on my client.

v2.0 (1B), the server kept by booting to the BIOS and seemed to ignore other startup options

v2.0 (3d) the keyboard no longer works in KVM.

    Startup options

There are a lot of startup options, and they seem to be configurable in many different places.

I don't know where to start or what would be best practices?

Nothing seems to work I'm waiting, and I did a lot of reading through documents, help, etc. online.

My local Cisco support person on vacation so I hope someone can help me or guide me in the right direction.

    Thank you & best regards

    Steve

Glad you found a way to fix it, don't forget to mark it as answered future users finding themselves in the same situation.

  • Cisco UCS update for vmware

    Hi all

I am facing a problem to upgrade my vmware environment. Is it possible to upgrade my current environment to vmware vSphere 5.0 to 5.5 or v6 vSphere? Here's my current Cisco UCS report. Cisco said that no Vmware said yes.  Someone at - he tried or who have this problem?

Current version = UCSM B series

    The UCS = 2.1 release (2)

    Server model = B230-M2

Adapter = CAN-M91kR UCS Virtual Interface Card

If you need confirm the hardware and software compatibility, here is your best friend:

    http://www.Cisco.com/Web/TechDoc/UCS/interoperability/matrix/matrix.html

With version UCSM you use and the material, you have the latest version supported is ESXi 5.1 U1, but if you upgrade to 2.1.3 you will see Esxi 5.1 U2 - 3, 5.5, 5.5 ESXi U1 - 2 and 6 Esxi ESXi.

I bet you meant to type M81KR, so keep this in mind for a proper functioning:

    1.5.0.45 = card driver (FNIC), 2.1.2.38 (ENIC)
    Adapter Firmware = 2.1 (3)

  • Migration from HP C7000 to Cisco UCS

    Hello

What is the best way to migrate servers currently on the HP chassis equpment to a whole new Cisco UCS chassis? It is for example a HP tool to migrate to a lun to start? Then we can start the same servers on Cisco UCS?

Or do we have to reinstall every server and restore the backups in a window maintenance?

physical server = i.e. ESXi? You must install this in your UCS blades? same goes for Windows or Linux? I don't see another solution?

  • Call recording on the virtual machine running on Cisco UCS

We evaluate the requirements for implementing call recording in our environment. Ideally the call recording server to run as a virtual machine on an ESXi host running like a blade on a Cisco UCS. I know that I need to set up RSPAN between my physical switches and turn the "Promiscuous" mode on my vSwitch which would be connected to the virtual machine. Where I'm stuck, how the NETWORK adapter that is connected to my vSwitch would be able to sniff this traffic? Are there requirements when I implemented the vNIC on the UCS or VMWare or under the physical being connected to the span port card desired traffic will get to my VM as a controlled traffic?

    Thank you.

No we are not running Cisco UCM. We have a 3rd party VOIP solution. I think I got the answer I need... we need to order a series C for our UCS Server manage the recording of calls.

    Thank you.

  • Cisco UCS c240 can not have a partition outside the disk

    Hello

I try to install ESXi 5.5 on a Cisco UCS of c240 M3.

The local drive is a FlexFlash Raid 1 2 sd cards.

When installing esx sees the local map 30 g.

request the language, root password and when I click on install, it gives an error. (see attached files)

This program has encountered an error: parted util, can't have a partition outside the disk

I have 2 servers configured exactly, out of the box, same error... any idea?

OK, so I tried with an older version of esx:

    ESXi-5.5.0-1746018-Custom-Cisco-5.5.1.3.iso

and it seems to work for now (it's 28%)

  • vFoglight with Cisco UCS

    Hello all,.
We are looking for Cisco UCS for our ESX env. and I was wondering if someone was running vFoglight UCS and had problems.
Or if someone of Quest/Vizioncore knows of any problem or future integration planned with UCS.

    Thank you
    Craig Dieck

Craig, I know of many clients running the Cisco USC with VMware and they are very happy. There is no known issue with vFoglight perspective. VFoglight hardware monitoring currently able to extract any platform SNMP information. If you are looking for a vFoglgith to pull information from the physical ESX servers directly (not SNMP) you will need to ask for a discussion of the roadmap with your representative local of the quest.

Inform the product manager for the platform you are using and what you want to be monitored and displayed...
