Clean install El Capitan

Mac Min (end 2012) with OS 10.11.4

After almost 4 years of loyal service, my Mac Mini has crashed. I have restored from Time Machine (Time Capsule). It took 3 days! It does not restore Mail and delete my account administrator a second restoration took 2 and a half days. Had a lot of problems after a lot of troubleshooting so I started the thread. I reinstalled El Capitan (not a clean install) of Apple and restored from Time Machine. It seemed to work after some difficulties of retrieving mail. I discovered that my account has been "standard". Not an administrator account. That's when I discovered that users & groups so that security preferences would not have been responsible and preferably errors windows generated. I reinstalled El Capitan again and the preferences panes issues are now fixed. It seems now that my basic problem is that I don't have an administrator account. As advised on the User Forums, I started using Cmd + S in Single User mode terminal where I should be able to create an administrator account. However, the terminal dΘmarrage aprΦs, I am unable to enter required text strings? I seem to be at an impasse.

I seem to have discovered that my problem might be that my administrator account has no password (I wanted a quick no start-up of the action).

I resolved to the fact that I may have to do a clean install. My question is if if I wipe the drive and re-install El Capitan, create an administrator account, and then retrieve the Time Machine backup and wait for all my applications (Parallels, 10 Windows, MS Office) get resettled.

Any advice?

Ron

Yes, you can do it. Use Time Machine to back up or restore your Mac - Apple Support

I would rather a clone, but you already have corruption. Do not forget to save a TM time frame is before you had corruption.

This looks more like a bad USB cable or bad printer.

  • Clean install of El Capitan on iMac 2011

I have just bought a new iMac and want to give my iMac 2011 to a friend. I would give it as if it had been purchased in an Apple store - El Capitan as the operating system with the apps that come with the purchase. The older iMac runs Yosemite.

I did this before time, three years ago, but the manual missing on El Capitan suggests that a clean install is much more difficult.

I ask to help anyone can offer to make this process as simple, easy and quick as possible.

    Thanks in advance,

Basically, you need to install the original Lion OS X for this system using OS X Recovery and let your friend update to El Capitan.

  • I'd be able to do a clean install of El Capitan * without * destroy my Windows partition?

I bought this media 2011 27 "iMac used earlier this year as a refurb from a dealer. It came with El Capitan installed, but I have the feeling that they had a facility upgrade compared to a clean install. The computer suffers from slow start and loading slow program (but once it loads then its fine). It's the same with my old iMac when I did an upgrade to Leopard years ago snow leopard, and erase the disk and performing a clean install OSX (and put files and programs back with Time Machine) has solved these problems then. So I thought it wouldn't hurt to try a clean install on this machine.

But read the tutorials I noticed that if you are not the first owner of the computer, then you cannot install updates OSX without resetting the computer? Although I WAS able to install the OS via the App Store updates (and I thought that I linked my Apple ID to the machine when I put initially in place), won't install not mean I should be able to clean, or it will have to be completely reset?

Yes, I've run disk utility and checked my HHD drive, it works fine. The entire machine is nice and quiet, not making abnormal sounds or perform exceptionally, it's just really the slow start in OSX and slow loading programs that are the problem.

I also recently created a Windows partition and installed Windows 8.1. It starts and runs decently faster than OSX, so I think it's just a problem with OSX and not the HHD himself and do a clean install will be hopefully solve problems. This computer has given me a lot of grief, creating a partition to install Windows 8.1 (unlike my old iMac) so wouldn't really really really have to wipe the HHD together to "change the property" and having to mess with which once again...

It 'sounds' like since the app store IS letting me install OS and updates to program with my Apple, I SHOULD be able to start in the RecoveryHD Partition and ID here to make a new install of Mac OS x on * just * my existing Mac partition. And this should not erase my * any * HHD, just the Mac partition. I'll save my whole Windows partition just to be safe, however. I could not find a guide which deals specifically with only reset the OSX partition and not wipe out Windows in the process, so I want to make sure I have my facts straight. I had planned on OSX reset and then restore my files with Time Machine. However, I also want to assure you that this will allow me to go even and reset the OS in the first place, given that I am not the original owner of the iMac and I don't know if they reset it correctly.

Sorry for the extremely long question and TIA!

Open the Mac App Store, make sure that you are signed in with your Apple ID and click on the purchase tab to see if El Capitan is associated with your Apple ID. If this isn't the case, you will need to download it so it will be associated with your Apple ID. If this is the case, you are all ready.

Are updates to OS X, not the buyer, so you can install all the updates, but the OS needs to be associated with your Apple ID.

I'm not sure about Windows, how did you install Windows? With Boot Camp? You should be able to clone on another drive (if you have one) using Clonezilla. Then wipe and reinstall El Capitan and put in place the Boot Camp partition and clone back.

  • How to do a clean install of El Capitan on new ssd?

I bought a new SSD to replace the SATA drive in my Macbook Pro for mid-2010. I am running Yosemite. What I want to do, is to do a clean install of El Capitan on the SSD. I also bought a pregnant and plan on the use of the old drive as an external backup.

I need some advice: after installing the ssd in the MBP and the old drive in the box, I intend to plug the old drive for the MBP, format the SSD drive and then use a reader flash which I did the Setup file of El Capitan to a clean of El Capitan for the SSD install and then use the Migration Wizard to migrate applications and files from the old drive.

Is there a better way? Maybe install the SSD in the enclosure first, connect to the MBP, then shaped and do cleaning installation of El Capitan?

    All advice is appreciated.

installing the SSD in the pregnant first, connect to the MBP, then shaped and do clean install of El Capitan?

It's better. Some of these Macs experience problems after surgery. The new installation using the outside doing will give you confidence that it works before surgery, and no problem introduced by surgery can be separated from issues of installation and update. It will install and run in an external, just may be a little slow.

  • Question seeks to clean install 10 Windows on the drive of the merger. El Capitan.

Problem: try a clean install of Windows 10 via the Boot Camp Assistant on an iMac 27 inches (Late2013) with 10.11.4 installs hours (more than 8 hours) and then failed to install Boot Camp updates. Essentially installation take much long than normal and cannot install updates of the Apple software or create normally start Windows Boot Camp 10.

Background: After problems of slowing down after upgrading to 10.11.4 (with improved Bootcamp Windows 10) who had previously worked fine for 10 months, to the point of a start of OS X time, I decided to do a clean install of my iMac with Fusion 3 to disk.

As I was unable to remove the partition from Boot Camp through BCA because of his holding always at the same load, I used Internet recovery and reset the Fusion drive. This then required me to repair the partition of Fusion by car through THE "fix" option which seems to work very well. And reinstalled OS X 10.11.4 which works fine now (delays etc..)

Try using BCA to create a new partition Boot Camp and a clean Windows 10 install after downloading an image of disk W10 directly from Microsoft (Win10_1511_1_English_x64), BCA by downloading software updates and by selecting the desired partition, it began to restart and initialize the installation. However the whole process has been very slow, each step takes much longer than usual, to progress. Leave for hours rest a blank screen or with a circle of rotation.

I tried with another stick USB 3 and also a USB 2 stick, but none has made a difference.

In the last attempt, I left running overnight and after 8-9 hours, he finally reaches the top of desktop Windows 10 and the update of Apple Bootcamp starts to load updates. However, he just hung and even after 2 hours, nothing was. Reboot and try once again has been the same.

After that I tried to create a Windows Installer via BCA 8.0 however it gives just a TPG error when you try to select the drive (due to el Capitan I guess?)

After four days of efforts, I'm a loser on how to get the Windows 10 on the Boot Camp partition. I can't even install W8 and upgrade due to the error of TPG.

Any help or suggestions how to proceed with the diagnostic / resolution of the problem would be appreciated.

    Details:

    System: iMac (27 inch, end of 2013), 3.4 GHz Intel Core i5, 16 GB 1600 MHz DDR3, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780 M 4096 MB, OS X 10.11.4

    • Nothing other than the keyboard and mouse attached via the USB ports, as well as the key USB of BCA. No other attached devices.
    • Reset memory NVRAM, SMC and ran more than once disk utility. No problem not reported.  Ran NVRAM reset before each attempt.
    • At ran EtreCheck report which seemed OK.
    • Verification of diagnosis ran who is childless.

A detail I noticed after the merger by car there are now two Macintosh HD images when you use boot option. One previously. Are named "Macintosh HD" and "Macintosh HD2". I remember being Yosemite simultaneously in three, but which has been fixed in an update.

In addition, it seems that no recovery partition. Cmd + R lance Internet recovery.

Q1: Should it take 4 + hours to install Windows 10 via BCA?

Q2: Al must ultimately be so slow when initially W10 desktop?

Q3; What I do once I arrive at the office of W10 but it automatically updates the graphics driver as BC update is simply suspended for centuries and get a working driver to restart at least W10?

Q4: is there a problem with the disk HARD the Drive of Fusion that is causing all this delay and slow install / boot? ON the clean install OS X 10.11.4 it is back to be fast as usual and all tests show things are OK but W10 goes on the part of the HARD drive. No way to verify this beyond diagnosis or Etrecheck?

Q5: Y at - it no problem with the GPT / MBR that may be causing the delay etc. ?

Q6: How can I use my existing WindowsImageBackup backup from the previous W10 with the BCA install usb drive or how to create a USB stick otherwise recovery disk with my other single Mac have W7?

Q7: How can I install W8 as I once did on Yosemite, via el Capitan without a mistake to TPG on selection of disc?

    Details:

    Day 5. Attempt at 6.

Partition Boot Camp delete and try again install via BCA. First question, is that when the startup it goes to a blank black screen. For a time nothing left. Reset then using alt to select windows training results in almost instantaneous startup of the BCA message created and the beginning of the installation.

4 1/2 hours from start of Windows 10 initial signature window.

Then the second question. One to reach the Boot Camp update Office tries to start and install the drivers. Allows you to "list files...". "stage then sits at the bar about 5% green for 1 to 2 hours and does nothing. All actions in the Office of the W10 takes ages.

In the meantime, auto update of the W10 appears a message saying that the updated graphics drivers as one of the few messages or actions during this period. Looks like Nvidia install with the entire package of experience (unwanted) etc. and very probably not the correct gpu driver.

Finally deciding to cancel the installation of BC by killing the Setup.exe process. Then copy Boot camp install files on the desktop. Lasts 30 minutes to copy. Run again and this time, although taking 15-20 minutes to download and install later with the success message.

Check the graphic driver it shows a yellow exclamation mark, so the following Microsoft instructions I use the uninstall option via the device and then Manager (slowly) come on board to load and download the latest Nvidia driver on their site for the GTX 780 M for 64-bit W10 etc. The same thing that I had used previously. Slow with running the Nvidia Setup program again, but eventually it works only to say that he could not install as unrecognized graphics device...

He ends up with Microsoft PnP driver so it's at least sufficient start and run it again BC of the figure updates as all other drivers have been installed. To restart, but I get an error of K-Mode that is most likely related to this driver graphic and not possible to start in the new W10 Boot Camp partition after 7 hours.

I have a picture of W10 backup recovery (WindowsImageBackup) I've had in a few weeks, but it will not install bet for the installed W10. I try with the ACO created the USB windows but can't seem to get a way to get into recovery mode and to get the menu to install it. I don't have a way to create a USB W10 recovery key now because my other Mac has just installed W7.

Finally I tried to count a reset of the Recovery boot up option but it seems that it will take longer to start.

I also went to the recovery and selected Boot Mode safe, but it opens on an empty black window and he's here doing nothing.

Looks like I'll have to restart on via BCA and reinstall and try and solve the problem of graphics in order to install driver updates from BC and restart to W10 and hope that with the drivers, it returns to the operation and the normal starting time. Then update the gpu driver.

I used and installed Boot Camp several times with over the years including previously an upgrade of W8.1 > W10 I used for over 6 months without problem. I've never known these installation very long or ice once in Windows even for the initial start upward.

For any help or suggestion would be appreciated, and this seemingly simple process has now expanded to five days.

  • What is the best method to do a clean install of El Capitan (currently using Mavericks).

I want to do a clean install of El Capitan. I am currently using Mavs 10.9.5 and my time machine goes back to 2010. I don't want to migrate everything. I want to start cleaning up. I read a few methods, but I'm curious to know if there is some consensus as to the best method.

Make sure that you have a Time Machine backup.

  • Clean install of El Capitan, causing all sorts of questions

    Hello

I decided to do a clean install of El Capitan on my Macbook Pro 13 "retina end 2014 using sudo command to set up the USB bootable stick with the latest version of os x for the Mac Appstore. Installation of El Capitan appeared flawless in its execution and first start went well. Before the installation, I just formatted the disk by erasing the current drive and creating a new partition that I chose to implement the OSX on.

Everything seems to be normal and familiar, until I try to log in iMessenger and FaceTime, which, in both cases, does not work after several attempts. Either I was told my internet connection has been lost or authentication failed. In addition to these connection problems, the overall performance of the operating system seems to be awkward and not nearly as smooth with my initial configuration to the factory system.

I started to wonder if the current version of El Capitan available on the Appstore is flawed and broken? Someone else met weird performance / connection problems after doing a clean installation of El Capitan on their Mac recently?

I can't use my Mac like this: someone in the support of Apple technology to address this issue now!

I did the same install clean, but the Apple server.  I'm having the same problem, however, there are several threads of people experiencing the same problem with the new OS X updated on El Capitan and some who use Yosemite said that they have the problem of too!  It is on the end of Apple

  • Epson WF-7520 does not print to tray 2 after El Capitan clean install?

I don't know what happened, but since I did a clean install of El Capitan, my WF-7520 Epson no longer works correctly. The ONLY way it prints on the 13 x 19 (tray 2) is when I remove it and place it in the top housing (slot 1). In addition, all my photo quality controls are now gone, so high quality prints are no longer possible. I tried to remove and reinstall the driver, but that has no effect.

For what it's worth, I print using Adobe Acrobat DC of more Creative cloud products. Anyone know what can be wrong?

    Rest the printing system...

Open System Preferences > Printers and Scanners and select the print tab.

Right click or control your printer on the left, then click on: reset printing system...

    Then try to print again.

If that does not help, download and install fresh drivers from the Epson website > http://www.epson.com/cgi-bin/Store/support/supDetail.jsp?infoType=Downloads & oid = 183585

A new installation can sometimes corrupt the software/drivers and need a new facility.

  • Can I reinstall an app that I bought from the app store after a clean install of El Capitan?

    Hi all

I did a clean install of El Capitan, which made my 2011 macbook pro currently unusable.

A few days after installation I met problems I've ever had before. Baffled because since my drive hard worked completely fine with the Mavericks and Lion. No disk ever utility error. Computer froze a couple times the 5 years ive had the it. It has been stable.

I explained my failed attempts to solve this problem in another thread here.

So, if this is not relative, which seems to be caused all of this, I concluded it's a failing hard drive?

My question is the only program of value I have logical hard disk Pro X (bought and downloaded 3 days ago) so anyway, given my problems with the hard drive I have can always reinstall logic after I got a new drive and reinstalled OSX?

I'm on a PC at the moment and looked everywhere to find my purchase history of Logic Pro X. The only thing I can find official is my receipt by e-mail. I logged on the apple.com site with my Apple ID and it show nothing bought for the last 90 days. Active iPhone and cant find a purchase history. This suggests to me that you need to check on a mac on the App Store?

Yes. You will need to check and it redownload via the Mac App Store with the original ID of Apple.

If you have existing question in your system current, then things could get worse if you upgrade simply. My personal choice is always do a clean install of newest version of Mac OS X.

How to perform a clean install of OS X El Capitan on your Mac.

How to prepare your Mac OS X 10.11 "El Capitan."

OS X El Capitan-download and Quick Installation Guide

Make your own installer from El Capitan flash drive using the El Capitan tool:

Be sure to save the installer in the downloads before installation folder, otherwise it will be deleted once the installation is complete.

You can create an installer of flash of El Capitan via the Terminal drive. El Capitan has its own manufacturer Installer integrated that you use via the Terminal:

You'll need a freshly partitioned and formatted at least 8GBs. USB flash drive leave the name of the flash drive on the system by default, "Untitled." Do not change this name. Wait as the full process that will take some time.

Open the Terminal in the Utilities folder. Copy and paste the following line in its entirety in the Terminal window.

    sudo/Applications/Install\ OS\ El\ Capitan.app/Contents/Resources/createinstallmedia--volume/Volumes/Untitled--applicationpath X\ "/ Applications/install OS X El Capitan.app.

Press RETURN, enter the admin password (will not resonate to the window) then press RETURN again.

You must have setup in your Applications folder or change the paths in the command line above.

  • GarageBand and idvd is el capitan after clean install missing

    Hello

After the new installation of OSX El Capitan, I'd install the gray DVD application, only GarageBand and iDVD.

The installer said that the programming block is not compatible with OSX version and it is better to give up.

    What should I do?

If the installer we will install, install both applications. Then update the Apple Support downloads (Apple - Support - downloads) page to the most recent versions.

You need GarageBand 6.0.5 (GarageBand 6.0.5) and iDVD 7.1.2.  (Download iDVD 7.1.2)   Both will run on El Capitan, but are are no longer officially supported.

If the installation program does not allow you to install, restore your backup applications. But you need to restore the library support files as well:

    • / Library/Application Support/GarageBand.
    • / Library/Audio/Apple Loops /.
    • I can't remember what iDVD may need as files support.

It is risky to do a clean install, if you are not sure, if your installers will be compatible with the system you are migrating to. A clean install is usually necessary if you have installed software that has damaged your system.
