  I recorded these two Actions:

  (1) resize an image of the Portrait orientation to a height of 800 pixels (constrain proportions), then "Save for Web" to a jpg with quality 24%

  (2) resize an image orientation landscape to a width of 800 pixels (constrain proportions), then "Save for Web" to a jpg with quality 24%

  How can I create an Action that will work for images of landscape and Portrait (800 pixels in proportion to the other dimension by setting the largest dimension)?

  I use Photoshop CS5 v12.0.4x32 and Windows XP Pro SP3.

  OK, I just tired it. I created two Actions (one using 'Image-Fit' value 800 pixels and another using 'Image size' value 17.4216% to reduce 4592 to 800 pixels). I ran each Action against a mixture of image orientation portrait and landscape and the results were identical and correct (the largest dimension is reduced to 800 piexels and the smallest to 532 pixels).

  All images of my Masters are 4592 x 3056 (or 3056 x 4592), the 17.4216% reduced to 800 x 532 (532 x 800). If I had a master mix of images of different size, 17.4216% would not suffer in 800 pixels. In this case, I would need to use "Mount Image" to get 800 pixels or I need a new Action with different percentages.

  In conclusion, you are right. 'Fit the picture' is what I should use so it will result in 800 pixels, regardless of the size of the master image. Thanks for your help.

If the shared item is available in portrait mode and landscape, landscape by default and allow the player to change to portrait by clicking the direction control in the lower left corner of the footer.   It's great, but I still have to run a tiny drop to resize the files exactly 374 x 498 and 276 x 385, after I cut them it will be "worthy", but this was not accurate.

  Here is my method:

  I have original TIFF that I have edited, original images is usually square. (sometimes they are not, and I wish I had a solution for that as well, but one thing at a time)

  Since these TIFF I execute the script to save to 4 different folders:

  Resize to 2000 x 2000 and rename to add sizing file name

  Resize to 500 x 500 and rename to add sizing file name

  Trim & resize to 374 x 498 and rename to add sizing file name

  Trim & resize to 276 x 385 and rename to add sizing file name

  Which is great! But now I have to go to sort my pictures SM and XS of landscape & Portrait and THEN run another drop on them to get them to fit exactly 374 x 498 and 276 x 385.

  If the version of Photoshop supports done condition and the condition is a conditional action as you can get without learing scripting. The problem, actions must be in the same action game and the game cannot be renamed.  Here action must be used after Image processor makes pro then the image resizing made tho conditional actions can add the canvas so that the document of the exact size.
