Como configurated red en Esxi environment?

Saludos a todos estoy iniciandome in el tema virtualizacion. Básicamente mi problema creo are simple: to Estoy instalando UN servidor desde cero, a proliant ml310 con tarjetas red back. De imagen del Esxi 5 para ese servidor y lo instale una ip static way has the card 1 black entrar desde otra pc despues instale el vsphere, the instale than the version of ubuntu 12 y hasta Aquí todo good. Ahora are mi con confusion the red, como can than mi Máquina virtual ubuntu internet tenga? decir esta Máquina virtual goes a funcionar como servidor para toda red samba y tengo than fijarle una ip led a una tarjeta y otra than sea as obtenga ip del manera dhcp router del servicio proveedor.

Saludos AlbertoDente, lo mejor're lo do como in the imagen that editor, as he prepared to para you entorno:

  • Crearemos back vSwitch.

I hope you sea of utility, if asi fuera, marca el tema como completed

  • New hardware configuration of ESXi environment

I'm relatively new to a company (to a month ago and I am the only person in what the other person until I started has left a little more) and I was tasked to virtualize ~ 30 physical servers (mainly old systems Solaris 10 which I do not expect to migrate to CentOS VMs).

I'm now panicing, because even if I have some knowledge of vmware (install ESXi and the creation of virtual machines in vSphere etc.) I have little knowledge about the side things network and how to build a SAN and network connect/configure it via a switch and guests ESXi etc to make the virtual machine environment. Can someone provide some good links that show how to do this step by step for someone new to this? -I'm getting bogged down with the vast amount of information out there. Also, I think I'll go with the Dell hardware, which is:

    2 x PowerEdge R710
    1 x PowerVault MD3200i (iSCSI)
1 x VMware vSphere Essentials Plus

Someone would be able to verify if the options below, I chose for the hardware will allow me to build an environment full of the virtual machine or if I am missing a few bits & bobs and I'll be able to tie together using a HP ProCurve 2810 - 24 G Switch exisiting?

  • Basic (I think) question about OpenFiler in ESXi environment

I guess that it is a fundamental issue, and I'm sure that the answer is out there via search.  I searched, but only problem is that OpenFiler/FreeNAS/etc are new concepts for me, so I still don't understand the in and out.  So I apologize in advance if I'm repeating a previous question answered.

As I was doing some research on this type of solution, I started trying to piece together why someone use OpenFiler in my situation.  I have ESXi 4.1 running on a Dell T110 with 2x1To installed disks (over a 250G drive where ESXi is installed), using the standard gamepad SATA in a configuration non-RAID.  It seems, if I understand correctly, there are people out there who have a similar environment that install OpenFiler as a virtual machine and dedicate all storage (in my case 2 TB) to OpenFiler and which attach to ESXi to be used for the virtual disks.

If the above interpretation is correct, why would someone do this?  What are the benefits?  I can understand using a type NAS device as a storage not installed in the physical area that ESXi is running on.  But by adding OpenFiler as a virtual machine to control the set of local storage for ESXi, would not be an added extra charge vs. using the native storage to ESXi management system?

    Just curious.  Thanks in advance.

If you have only an ESXi host, then there is no obvious advantage in this. If however, you have two hosts and each has a virtual with Openfiler or similar machine and they have implemented data replication, then you would benefit from having "IP storage". (The new VMware Virtual Storage Appliance uses this concept too, NFS).

  • You want some advice on configuring NPIV for ESXi Vsphere 4.1

Salvation; HP EVA8000 SAN/FC switches, Win2k8 servers, HBA Qlogic - environment. I have my VMware Setup and ready to go.  I have test virtual servers on the SAN and want to connect to the virtual disks of data users. I made copies of the VD data user and copies connected to the virtual machine as LUN mapped Raw. They seem to work ok, but I don't know what I have to configure for NPIV? If I do, how can I change the settings for the HBA on the ESXi host? is there a resource for the syntax and parameters? I will follow my own, but if anyone has any experience in this area (NPIV), it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. Gregg

There is no need of NPIV for the scenario you describe. In fact, I don't see a case of usage with the current implementation for NPIV (technically), since in addition to NPIV you must always present the LUNS to the ESXi hosts and map in the RDM.

  • Error "Required application module is not configured" showed in distributed environment of EMP

    Hi Experts,

We are trying to install and configure EMP 11.2.2.2. on an environment distributed.

    We have 3 servers,

On a server, we installed Foundation Services and R & A.

On server B, we have installed EPMA, planning, Manager of Calc,

On Server C, we have installed Essbase.

(By the way, SQL Server is on a different server)

First we have problem deployment on application server on server B, and then we installed and deployed web applications of all the products that we use on the server has.

After doing this Manager planning and calc were deployed to the application server on server B with success.

EPMA web tier and the data synchronization has failed somehow, but after we manually created the server EpmaWebReports1 & EPMADataSync1 on the weblogic administration console.

EPMA has been deployed successfully. So, up to this point, all products have been deployed, and the services can be started.

But when launch us the workspace on a server, and then access the module planning or epma (dimension library, the library of applications... etc), error has occurred.

It bumps a message as "Necessary application module awb.appmanager is not configured." or "Required application module awb.dimeditor is not configured."

For more information on server A we installed on the disk, I have, and on server B, we installed on the D drive.

We do not know if it makes no effect, we watched Installation EMP system produced in an environment distributed and have seen this:

In a distributed environment, Oracle EPM home must be the same on each machine. For example, if the path for Oracle EPM home is/Oracle/Middleware on the first machine that you configure, it must be/Oracle/Middleware on all machines in the deployment.

It is delicate because the estimate does not include the disk information in oracle home.

Does anyone have an opinion on the issues that we face? Thank you very much!

    Eric

For machines that are hosting the web application, really, it must be the same way home of middleware.

    See you soon

  • Supermicro onboard Intel and Adaptec RAID configuration unrecognized in ESXi 5.5 U2

Hi, I have a supermicro X7DAL-E r1.1b motherboard has integrated Intel and Adaptec sata raid controllers. To enable raid controllers, I go into the BIOS and enable the raid configuration for intel or adaptec. I tried two raid controllers and created a configuration raid 5 by going through the bios of each controller. However, when I start to go through the process of installing ESXi 5.5 U2, I see not a logical drive, all I see are hard drives that I thought were configured as a logical drive in raid 5.

I know that I am using an old motherboard which is not on the HCL, but I just haven't the money to spend on equipment. I really want to make it work if possible. I tried to download ESXi 4 but it is no longer available . I understand I tried to use an older version to see if it contains the necessary drivers for it work and attempt to port these drivers in ESXI 5.5.

I was wondering if someone actually got this similar problem with supermicro Board and whether a solution or workaround has been found in which ESXi 5 can recognize the raid configuration? If this is impossible, it can't be done, that's what it is. I'll deal with it or put in place.

    Any suggestion would be appreciated.

Not sure about this 'r1.1b' version, but original X7DAL-E has no onboard hardware raid controller. What he has is i5000 chipset, which offers the raid software-(aka bios-, faux-, etc.). This is not supported by ESXi (for very good reasons). And even if it were, no cache, you would get terrible performance...

  • ESXi environment during the upgrade of the switch

We plan to upgrade our main and some of our distribution level switches switch. I'm looking to determine the best way to protect the installation of VMware for the intermittent periods of network connectivity.

I suspect that the preferred course of action is to stop the VM environment. I saw some documents to do this and it looks like a simple procedure. I would prefer to avoid that because we lack Active Directory directory services and I have not been able to locate any documentation on how to shut down all the domain controllers in an Active Directory domain.

We run ESXi 5.0 U1 and 2 VCenter data centers. One consists of 4 hosts and the other has 7 guests. Each VMkernel port group is supported by 2 redundant physical NIC connected to separate switches or blades of the switch.

There are 2 scenarios, sure I have questions. In the first, when we take down a chassis switch for replacement, we will lose all iSCSI connectivity. I think we should take our virtual machine environment before taking down the switch. Is this correct?

In the second scenario, Vmotion and the management port groups, as well as most of the production network ports are connected to 2 separate switches. I think that if we take one switch connections would be a failover to the switch work but the VMware environment would be functional if somewhat degraded.

    Any comments on two cases?

It's one of the reasons why the redundant paths to the storage is critical then Yes if you lose your network connectivity iSCSI SAN you should should descend from your environment.

That's right - the traffice will switch to the other physical uplink port

  • How do I configure Openfiler for ESXi 5.0 (on which has been installed in the workstation).

9.0 pre-installed VMware I installed in my laptop. I created a 5.0 as a VM ESXi in workstation. And I installed vSphere client 5.0 in my laptop. And I am able to access ESXi from my laptop through the vSphere client.

Now, I created a VM with Windows 2008 R2 on top of ESXi. I installed vCenter 5.0 in Windows 2008 R2 Machine. I have just to connect to vCenter using vSphere client (which has been installed in my laptop) and added ESXi as host in the inventory.

Now, I created a VM with Openfiler. Everything is fine. I want to use this Openfiler as a storage array, and I want the SAN with ESXi and Openfiler configuration.

I think I need to create a VMkernel port group and attach that Openfiler VM who. And if I want to access the Openfiler web interface, do I need to have internet access? We can access the Openfiler Web interface without having access to the internet?

Can someone let me know how to connect this Openfiler as a storage Bay for ESXi and configure a San.

Openfiler does not need Internet access and you do not require an additional VMkernel port for access.  If it's production, you share the management and traffic on NIC iSCSI physical separate and thus vmkernel ports.  In this case, it is not necessary.  Did you do the initial installation of Openfiler to create a LUN for the ESXi host access?

  • SSH configuration view RAID ESXi 5 command

I have several ESXi 5 servers that do not have hard drives. I want to confirm that the disks are in a RAID configuration before I hot swap drives since they are critical production servers and cannot be taken offline. Nobody knows what the command SSH ESXi 5 that will show the RAID configuration? I know there are the vendor specific tools that can help to manage these servers, but I just wanted to confirm quickly the RAID configuration, so I can replace the drives.

    Thank you!

If you have HP servers (and the HP bundles installed offline) then you have the hpacucli tool to manage the Smart Array controllers available in a shell.

It is also available through esxcli (esxcli hpacucli).

  • migrate the production esx 4.0 to 5 new hardware esxi environment

I intend to migrate my production esx4.0 vSphere esxi 5 environment (new hardware) environment. How can I migrate my vms to production that are hosted on esx 4.0 (3 hosts managed by vcenter) to new material, that is to say 3 new hosts running esxi5? I want to leave my production environment intact in case I need to back off because of problems if it is possible? I am aware that:

    «My upgrade VMFS-5 doesn't have a block size of 1 MB.» Why?

Upgrade of VMFS-5 partitions retain the characteristics of the partition of the data store VMFS-3 original, including the block size of the file, size of 64 K subblock, etc.. To take full advantage of all the benefits of VMFS-5, migrate virtual machines to a different data store (s), delete the existing one and re data store - create using VMFS-5".
so ideally, I want to create a new data store instead of to upgrade and move my VM prod on this.

What are the options that are available to me? Thank you.

I wonder if it would make a big difference to save storage space?

30 years ago I probably would have said it makes a difference, but today, it is probably more expensive (i.e. is not worth spending time) to create a new data store and migrate everything to a few KB.

  • Configure Passthrough in ESXi host for USB Dongle?

    Hello

You have to connect a USB dongle to a virtual machine specific.

On the web, we find that we can plug the dongle to 5 ESXi host.  For this particular virtual machine, add USB controller and then add the USB device.

We wonder if we were to "Configure Passthrough" in "Advanced settings" of the ESXi host?  If so, is there an easy way for us to identify the particular USB port used?

    Thank you

    Post edited by: TonyJK

    Hello

If you want to only connect the USB dongle to a virtual machine, add a USB controller to the virtual computer is simpler. Once you have added a USB controller, turn on the virtual machine. Plug the dongle on the ESXi host. Open the page change the setting of this virtual machine, add a USB device and you should be able to find the dongle in the list. Save the settings and your virtual machine can now access the dongle.

    Hello

I do not think that the vMW allows the ACU installation at all - how he would talk to the RAID card in local hardware store?

The workaround is usually a design change. Your 'best practice' typical ESXi installation is performed in a sort of SAN, where such technology is irrelevant.

Apart from this, you can always vMotion your virtual machines to another machine, then restart a host and boot from the Smartstart CD, where you can run the ACU.

I certainly would not downgrade to ESX4 - it is like recommending a downgrade to Windows 2000 for the future.
