Compact on the C drive.

Hello

I have Vista Home Basic. I have hard drive 20 GB for C and about 100 GB is distributed between D and E of the road. Most of my installation is made on the E drive.

My C drive is having problems with low disk space because of which my system run very slow. I did the cleaning disc, disk defragmentation. But of no use.

Windows folder uses 70% of my disk C I have also uninstall the software in the C drive and shited on the other drive.

I also tried to increase my partion but failed, as it has been frozen.

Pls help on this before you run out of space.

Hello Girikpv,
Thank you for visiting the Microsoft Answers forum.
To free space on your drive, you can remove unnecessary files from the system, temporary internet files, restore using the cleanup as utility points suggested by Zack.
Then you can uninstall programs and personal files.
The best thing to do is backup everything on an external hard drive for 2 reasons.
1 - To free disk space
2 - To have a backup in case something happens with your computer.

To answer your question on the windows compresing folder, you can right-click on the drive you want to compress select Properties, and then check the options that says Compress drive to save space.

  • Messages from the C drive memory

I started having a message not enough memory for the C drive a few days ago.

I have a gateway with Windows Vista Home Premium laptop.

Windows is updated automatically, and I sometimes have to update it manually.

I use Microsoft Security Essentials to protect my computer and continue to say that my computer is protected, and that no threats were detected. I run a Quick Scan daily and a full Scan weekly. It is updated daily.

I use disk cleanup and Disk Defragmenter at least once a week.

The last thing I installed was a software program, that I bought there is almost 4 months, to help clean and compact the registry of my computer, in order to help speed up the performance of my computer.

During the process of cleaning, compaction and laundering of deleted files, is most needed, in the last months, I had been seeing about the same amount of memory available for the past few months for drive C (86.6 GB) and recovery drive D (3.14 GB).

Then, in just a matter of 2 or 3 days, I started to receive messages from memory to the C drive.

Available memory on the C drive went from 86.6 GB to 454 MB unexpectedly in just a few days.

I ran the Diagnostic Microsoft memory tool, which indicated that there is no memory error.

Hoping that I might be able to free up some space on the C drive, I deleted most of the entries on my list of favorites.

I've been watching all the programs installed on my computer, but I don't think that any of them are not needed. And none of them use more than a few MB of space.

I am still reviewing each of the articles or short videos, which I had downloaded over a year ago to assist me in my studies, to see if I might be able to get by without that none of them, hoping that remove anything could improve the available memory on the C drive.

Microsoft mentions the warning signs of a low disk space, whereas we could take steps to avoid any data loss.

Anyone have any suggestions for other diagnoses I could try running?

In the meantime, I will continue to read the information on the use of my computer Gateway and Windows Vista Home Premium, as well as try to read articles on the Microsoft Web site.

I would like suggestions of any person, who suffered a similar, unexpected and unexplained loss of memory on disk C and how you could improve your memory.

    Hello

The last thing you need is a registry cleaner.

They can no longer hard for your operating system as any good claimed in their sales pitch.

You should never touch your registry unless you know what you do and then do it manually yourself.

These automated programs from the registry will destroy your system.

"The available memory on the C drive reached 86.6 454 MB Go unexpectedly in a few days".

This free program lets see what occupies space in C:

    http://www.Jam-software.com/treesize_free/

    And to ensure that there is no Malware, run this program;

Download, install, update and scan your system with the free version of Malwarebytes AntiMalware:

  • Windows 7 allows the application of compaction in the memory manager. If yes where can I find more information.

Windows 7 allows the application of compaction in the memory manager.  If yes where can I find more information.

    Thank you

Memory management is controlled automatically by Windows.  Do a search in Help and Support for compaction gives no results, so I think that the answer is no.  It is usually a good idea to reboot at least once a week to clean fragments that might be lingering around.  There is a defragmentation of your hard drive that you can schedule or manually run.

    Good luck.

  • Shrinkage on guest running on the SSD drive

Hi, I have 20 GB of unused free space arouns in my commenting system (win 7). The partition has already been reduced. I want to reduce the virtual machine to free up on the host computer.

The virtual machine is running on a SOLID-STATE drive on the host. I tried to use the "compact" host method, but he gave me approximately 1 GB. I read that "zero-ing" or defragmentation should be done before shrinking/compacting.

On a SSD if defragmentation is not recommended.

What can I do to recover the 20 GB?

My second problem is: I see the VMWare tools on the status bar icon in the comments, but can't seem to find a way to open/use it. It VMWare tools 9.2.3.

    The service is running...

    Thank you

Another option is to use sdelete to zero the unused disk space. After doing this compaction of the VM must reduce the size as expected.

My computer with two hard drives and 2 starting systems has the car crash in the solid state. When I got the new drive and tried to restore from time capsule, I lost some data. How can I see what backups are on the time capsule? My laptop is also saved to the time capsule. Everything is in 'Data' when I look through the Airport utility. I think that the information that I've lost are still there since I was a Capsule 3 to.

Time Machine backup to a sparsebundle.

The sparsebundle will use the share name of computer. So, it should be obvious who is your Macbook and that is your Macpro.

Open the sparsebundle in Finder and keep open the subfolders until you get to the backup of each separate hard drive...

You has of course set the exclusion in Time Machine?

By default, Time Machine will exclude your second drive unless you have included it. Did you?

Once you get to this level during the backup, you can do a full restore manually whenever you want.

  • Starts the Powerbook g3 pismo of the external drive?

    Hello, all,.

I want to start my Powerbook G3 (Pismo) running OS 9.2.2 since the restore in one disc external hard drive. (PB knows he has a drive hard internal , but the drive does not read discs in there.) The computer goes up the disc - its own restore disk - when it comes starts with Macintosh HD as a player start, but when I try to use the restore disc as commissioning, starts to drive to go up, but the door opens. Even if I hold the door closed, the computer starts low to halfway and glued in place: first, the question mark flashing, then commissioning with Macintosh HD but then freeze it.

This happens even if I chose as the startup disk restore disk in the startup configuration panel. This means that I can't even begin to use disk utility to clean the hard drive of the computer. I did that with two other computers (reset several times), but those who had internal functioning disks. Is it possible that I can do this computer using the external drive as the boot? I read that the G3 Pismo that allows. I know I can get someone to take out the hard disk and smash, but I expect much prefer to destroy it myself. And I can understand how to remove the hard drive, but it seems to imply a boatload of maneuvers and some tools that I have, at the present time. I would not completely destroy the computer. It would be good for recyclers to be able to retrieve some parts, though they might be useful to someone.

It is possible that I can't boot from the restore disc in the external drive, but maybe there's something that I have not yet tried. It seems crazy that the external hard drive with the restore disc appears on the desktop with a normal restart, and I can choose as boot drive but can't seem to complete commissioning. If anyone has any ideas on this subject, I would appreciate it a lot.

    Thank you.

    Jenny

Are you trying to boot the PowerBook to an external optical drive that is connected to a USB port or your external drive connectivity FireWire?  If it is USB, that is the problem.  The reading of an optical drive connected by USB is one thing, but start since it is a different matter.  Unfortunately, your Pismo is not capable of this.

  • Connecting apple tv to the output of the HARD drive?

Can someone help me with the apple tv connection to my TV? My TV has only hdmi output which I already use for a satellite dish. The only other available exit is the HARD drive, but I only have a hdmi cable to hdmi. Is there such a thing as hard drive hdmi cable to? any help would be appreciated.

I guess it's a usb port on your tv labled as a hard drive. If that's true, you can get a cable hdmi to usb - if there is such an animal.

    Good day.

  • Time Machine deleted messages on an external drive to the trash can on iMac are taking place on the hard drive?

I am struggling with a computer, try to empty the trash with 1million 300,000 Time machine backup files. It runs for two days now and won't install. At this rate, I'll need a week before my computer becomes viable. I don't feel able to go to the Terminal to do the trick. Also at this point, I'm afraid to stop the process again... Backups on an external drive of pigs 400 GB on my drive hard imac... I have so little room to work right now. I deleted some 200,000 files already yet the storage on my imac HD has not moved. The files in the Recycle Bin of the external drive really live on my hd now until they will be deleted if all goes well before Christmas?

I have a new computer to come next week so I'm wondering if I'll just reformat my entire hd in my imac to solve this problem... Any ideas?

You do all this in the Finder?

Time Machine has to delete the files from the user interface, normally "browsing Time Machine backup", navigate to the desired folder, and select the option "delete all backups of...» ». This is the approved way that should work.

If you are manually dragging the items in the trash of in a Time Machine backup, it can choke. Time Machine stores data with many levels of access control permissions & Finder seems to have difficulties to remove to empty the trash. In fact, I think that the TM drive has limits to prevent normal users to change data on this disk.

Personally, I think your safest option is to abandon the process, restart, erase and reformat the Time Machine drive. Who will lose all history backups but again in a clean condition seems to be better than trying to manually prune the Time Machine data. Time Machine removes old backups when it is full - so you shouldn't really need to intervene like this anyway.

Wait and see if anyone has a better idea.

P.S., each disk has its own "basket", so doing drag items should not fill your Mac startup disk. Maybe the operating system is out of memory, try to process all the files, exit other applications & see if that changes anything, you may have to wait just if you want to avoid to abandon the process.

  • Is it possible to replace the hard drive with an SSD? or would it be too expensive?

Is it possible to replace the hard drive with an SSD?

or would it be too expensive?

Yes.  There are several alternatives.  I found a way relatively inexpensive, using a map of mSATA (very small SSD) and an adapter to connect it to the connector IDE 44 pin internal of my PowerBook.  It works very well.  Rather than repeat what I posted previously, you can watch these two topics (which also has good info, other users)

FYI - I have used the adapter is even cheaper now

  • What is the speed of the hard drive of the 2015 2 and 3 to merge disks partition?

I was looking through the Apple site and was wondering about the speed of the drive in the iMac in car merger. On their site it says that the 1 TB Fusion drive has 24 GB of Flash memory, and 2 models to and 3 to have 128 GB of Flash storage. But it does not say what the speed of the hard drive partition, which is what I want to know. It is 5400 RPM, or even 10000 rpm or 7200 RPM? I don't know, but I want to know. If anyone here knows the answer to this question, I would appreciate a response. Thank you.

I have seen it reported that the Fusion drives are all 7 200 RPM.

  • Update the graphic driver for Bootcamp 6.0 questions

After you perform a new installation of Windows 10 1607, I proceeded to install Bootcamp AppleBcUpdate.exe drivers on my MacbookPro 11.5 i7 Dual Graphics.

Everything worked fine after that restart once the installation has been done. Now I checked the Apple software update, and he gave me a few updates. Specifically the bottom three in the picture below.

It restarted after that and then 'Apple Software Update' update itself twice before offering a new version of the graphics driver.

This update has screwed up the system. Auto brightness doesn't work anymore. The brightness keys don't do anything. I reinstalled bootcamp on a fresh drive to isolate this problem.

Does anyone have a solution to this? Any suggestions? If everyone Apple never bother reading this, then please test your drivers before you send them.

Delete Windows, re - install, create a Windows system restore point, disable all updates Intel GPU and then apply the updates and test.

  • Why the Mac drives are not partitioned?

I've owned Macs since the 80s, 90s, 2000s and 10s ' and not is that I now realize, is not partitioned hard drive inside a Mac (currently on an old Macbook Pro).

I can't find an answer to this question anywhere, probably because each search result estimated that I wonder about external drives.

My MBP 2007 hard drive is about to fail (so says utility disk), and I am saved, cloned and prepared for this possibility better I can be. I want to buy a new drive hard internal and wonder if I should partition when I get it.

I always share my external drives.

Because most people don't partition their drive, and those who can execute the procedure themselves. It is actually necessary if you want to use several operating systems on the same drive; Whether or not you should in other cases depends on what you use your computer for.

  • formatting the hard drive

I backup to a hard drive and store it off-site. I use CCC to make a bootable clone. I have 2 computers and partition the drive, so each has its own storage space. Death of the old drive.

I bought a Seagate Backup more Slim Portable STDR2000100. It was listed as "for Mac" as opposed to a similar (identical?) drive for Windows. He told me to install NTFS_for_Mac_14.0.456 to make the drive compatible Mac. Yes, I did.

Partition in disk utility tab is grayed out when the Seagate drive is selected. How do I partition? Active erasure. Can I erase and start over with Apple formatting using disk utility?

Do I need to partition to use CCC for 2 separate back ups? If so, is there any advantage to pay an extra $10 for the reader "Mac-compatible"? Any hard drive is compatible by erasing and letting the disk utility format?

I asked Seagate to get advice but, so far, they have not understood my problem and each question goes to a different person. I asked there but won't hear of them until Tuesday. They have been excellent with support in the past; Maybe will solve my problem. My reason for posting this is double; l would like to get my back by running quickly and, as shown by the above, I need a better understanding of how tough is related to a Mac.

    Thank you.
