Time Machine deleted messages on an external drive to the trash can on iMac are taking place on the hard drive?

I am struggling with a computer, try to empty the trash with 1million 300,000 Time machine backup files. It runs for two days now and won't install. At this rate, I'll need a week before my computer becomes viable. I don't feel able to go to the Terminal to do the trick. Also at this point, I'm afraid to stop the process again... Backups on an external drive of pigs 400 GB on my drive hard imac... I have so little room to work right now. I deleted some 200,000 files already yet the storage on my imac HD has not moved. The files in the Recycle Bin of the external drive really live on my hd now until they will be deleted if all goes well before Christmas?

I have a new computer to come next week so I'm wondering if I'll just reformat my entire hd in my imac to solve this problem... Any ideas?

You do all this in the Finder?

Time Machine has to delete the files from the user interface, normally "browsing Time Machine backup", navigate to the desired folder, and select the option "delete all backups of...» ». This is the approved way that should work.

If you are manually dragging the items in the trash of in a Time Machine backup, it can choke. Time Machine stores data with many levels of access control permissions & Finder seems to have difficulties to remove to empty the trash. In fact, I think that the TM drive has limits to prevent normal users to change data on this disk.

Personally, I think your safest option is to abandon the process, restart, erase and reformat the Time Machine drive. Who will lose all history backups but again in a clean condition seems to be better than trying to manually prune the Time Machine data. Time Machine removes old backups when it is full - so you shouldn't really need to intervene like this anyway.

Wait and see if anyone has a better idea.

P.S., each disk has its own "basket", so doing drag items should not fill your Mac startup disk. Maybe the operating system is out of memory, try to process all the files, exit other applications & see if that changes anything, you may have to wait just if you want to avoid to abandon the process.

  • Backup Restore Time Machine does not see RAID external drive

    Hi all

I have a problem with my iMac restore from a Time Machine backup, and I was wondering if anyone else had the same problem already.

I had to reinstall OS X El Capitan from scratch, based on education, I received Support from Apple. That worked without problems and my iMac works fine. However, I wanted to restore it to how it was before, using Time Machine. I keep my backups on a LaCie 5big Thunderbolt 2 and never had any problems with it.

To restore the system, I followed the instructions on the Support page. I restarted my system in recovery mode and selected the "restore from Time Machine backup". Unfortunately the LaCie 5big does not appear on the list of drives, so I'm stuck... When you use the system in normal mode, the external RAID is visible and Time Machine stores backups on it without any problem.

Any of you are familiar with this problem? I would be very grateful if you could help me with this problem!

    Kind regards

    Valerio

    Hello

-While the system is booted in recovery mode, confirm that the Lacie 5big network is visible in disk utility.   You will need to disconnect / reconnect the Thunderbolt cable to the Lacie 5big be detected.

-Once seen, a new attempt to restore from Time Machine backup.

  • Time Machine error message wants to delete all backups

Is there a way to delete older backups? I am able to see them in my time Machine, but I get this error when I try to save "Time Machine has conducted an audit of your backups on"PersonalCloud". To improve reliability, Time Machine must create a new backup for you. Click Start a new backup to create a new backup. This will remove your existing backup history. This may take several hours. »

Is it possible to keep the information contained in the previous backups?

I have not saved within months because of this error message.

I'm running 10.11.4 and was backing through Wifi to a Seagate Personal Cloud

Is it possible to keep the information contained in the previous backups?

N ° you have lost all your backups.

A device third-party network attached storage (NAS) or a router is unsuitable for use with Time Machine, especially if it's your only backup. I know that's not what you want to hear. I know that Time Machine accepts the device as a backup destination. I know that the manufacturer says the device will work with Time Machine, and I also know that it usually seems to work. Except when you are trying to restore and find that you can't.

Apple has published a specification for network devices that works with Time Machine. No third party provider, AFAIK, does meet this specification. They all use the application of "Netatalk" incomplete, obsolete Apple Filing Protocol.

Apple does not endorse any device third-party network for use with Time Machine. See this support article.

Network backup, use as destination an Apple Time Capsule or an external storage device connected to another Mac or a 802.11ac AirPort base station. Only 802.11ac base stations support time Machine, not older model.

Otherwise, use Time Machine at all. There are other ways to save, although none of them are nowhere near as effective or as well integrated with OS X. I don't have a specific recommendation.

If you are determined to continue to use the device with Time Machine, your only remedy for any resulting problem is the manufacturer (who will blame Apple, neither you nor anyone else but herself.)

  • Time Machine, delete the old files from MacAir?

We had a MacAir and a MacPro at home and both were using backups time machine on our 2 TB Time Capsule. I sold the MacAir and replaced by a new MacBook. Can I delete the backups Time Machine of old MacAir and make room on my time Machine 2 TB for Macbook? I get a message of disk space for the first backup of the MacBook.

Can I delete the backups Time Machine of old MacAir and make room on my time Machine 2 TB for Macbook?

Yes you can.  Your next question may be 'how' to do it.

Use the Finder to open the disc Time Capsule, named "Data", except if you have renamed the reader

Here, you will see two files sparsebundle, each bearing the name of Mac, who has been the object of a backup

Click on the name of the sparsebundle file on behalf of the Mac to highlight the file

Click the gear just above the window, and then click place in the trash

He is not coming back, so make sure that you delete the correct file.

Once the deletion over... it should only take a few minutes... Turn off and restart the time Capsule and you should be all set.

  • Mailing address: restore from time machine sent messages

Recently, I changed my work for a long time to POP IMAP email account.  While I made sure that I have archived all incoming messages, I didn't "Sent" messages would be affected.  They seem to have disappeared.

Everything must have been saved on Time Machine.  What is the best way to restore old items sent, so I can ideally their search for Mail?  Can I put them in a sent items folder, so I can get all my accounts at the same time?

As I check iMap messages to extract the server, do I need to archive messages sent at the same time?  Or can I leave them in my combined "sent" folder.

    Thank you!

Move messages sent to a folder "on my Mac".

  • Capsule full time as his double registered an external drive

    Hello

I have a standard mac 500 GB and a separate external drive from Seagate.  The Seagate has itunes and is probably 500 GB used out of 2 TB. The Mac is probably 350 GB full.  These two back up to a 2 TB Timecapsule. Its been fortunately backup for awhile but some how seems to have saved double the seagate as well its economy to its full.

So, I need to restore the Timecapsule to delete the previous info and copy information that is held on the Seagate and Mac.

I had a glance through some of the headings on the Airport utility, but can't see all the options. I wouldn't say I'm tech savvy.  All advice would be great.

    Thank you

You say here that you want to clear the contents of the Time Capsule hard drive and start over with new backups of your Mac and the Seagate drive attached to the Mac?

If this is the case, I suppose you understand that you will lose your backup history of the Mac and Seagate drive when you do this, since tit Time Capsule disk will be wiped clean when it is cleared.

    Please confirm.

  • Time Machine: deleted backups of the status "pending".

    Hello world

I manually deleted some old backups Time Machine interface, by clicking on the gear button in the backup Finder and selecting Remove backup.

Now deleted backups are no more hard disk or in the trash, but they are always present in the Time Machine interface in a "pending" status and it is not possible any action on them.

How can I remove them completely from Time Machine?

Thanks in advance for any suggestion,

    Good bye

    Gabriele

Manual removal of the old backups is not a good thing to do. Let Time Machine take care of itself.

I suggest you use Spotlight to reindex your hard disk and backup disk, then run a backup Time Machine and see what clears the problem. If this isn't the case, you might be better off erase your backup disk and start a new Time Machine backup.

  • Time Machine: If I connect a new drive for a backup off site, can I go back to my old drive?

Time machine will lose all memory of my previous backups so I redirect temporarily Time Machine on a fresh hard drive, backup the entire disk for storage off-site and then reconnect the original hard drive? Obviously, this isn't something I can just 'try' and risk losing the value of a year of backups. Please tell me if this can be done safely. Thanks in advance.

I do it on 2 computers on a regular basis to have off-site backups and have never had any problem when to return for the local backup drives.

    Yes.

Even if disk utility is able to 'fix' a hard disk dive, it is bound to fail once again, sometimes in a very short time. Replace it.

  • Restored Time Machine not listed e-mails is not in the mail

I am running Yosemite and Mail 8.2. Somehow, I lost my entire mailbox. I went to Time Machine to do a restore to my Inbox. I have 6700 + emails. I select them all and click on restore. The computer does its thing and then displays a message saying 6700 + restored messages. Yet, nothing shows up in my Mail box. I tried with different numbers of email even only selected messages. No luck. While they hide somewhere?

Thanks in advance for the help. I feel very lost without my e-mails.

They are not restored directly to the Inbox. They will be in a restored file slot on my Mac. If this section is not expanded, place the cursor on it and choose display. Look for the restored mailbox. You can select the messages here and move them where you need.
