  Hello. You don't mention what model is your laptop. On my laptop (satellite a50-111), you can switch between mode LCD and VGA by holding the Fn key and repeatedly pressing F5. Good luck.

Your only option is to try to find a dock broke very cheap on ebay (they invented sometimes) or buy one that works, but does not have an adapter sector or something, so it will at little cost.
