Configuration of boot win 7 + ubuntu

I have a new computer "dell inspiron 3521' laptop it came with Ubuntu 12.04 so I re-size of the hard drive and made new partitions, then I installed windows 7 on a new partition.  now, when I turn on the laptop it boots directly to windows 7, how can I change boot configuration to let the unit ask me to start starts on the OS I want?

Windows 7 does not include a Linux partition in the boot menu, and it's always the last installed o/s that defines the menu upwards.

What you need to do is to boot from a Linux Live CD and repair/configure the boot loader Grub from Linux. Good reading this article here, it covers Ubuntu then you will at least see what is at issue.

If Windows had been the 1 o/s installation of Linux would have set up Grub for you.

Yep - but not really news - older versions of the workstation all have this problem with Windows 7 guests - which is why I still use 2003
I would setup just the Ubuntu VM in a regular vmdk ANDS store it on any of your other 3 discs

Error message @ boot Win 7 Pro "there was a problem starting C:\programdata\ofpviaowu.dat - the specified module could not be found."

This error message appears whenever I have start my computer and windows starts (Firefox doesn't start up). 15.01 Firefox work properly otherwise.

This started after I installed the 15.0.1 patch.

I uninstalled and reinstalled Firefox but the problem remains. Search Google for "ofpviaowu.dat" came with "2012-08-29 Firefox version 15 startup Crash Report" as the only listing.

    Is this a Firefox problem?

My system has this file: C:\ProgramData\Mozilla\logs\. I don't think that Firefox or update service should write directly to the root of C:\ProgramData\. It could be a configuration error, or it could be completely different.

You may be able to remove your boot sequence problem .dat file using Microsoft Autoruns utility: Autoruns for Windows. If you find an entry, can describe you it?

  • Dual boot Win 7 64 bit and XP Pro 32-bit (win7 installed first)

How can I set up: dual boot Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit and Windows XP Pro 32-bit (Windows 7 installed first)? I have Win7 on a 2 terabyte HARD drive, with another 1 terabytle internal HARD disk and two 1 terabyte external hard drives. I have an Intel Core i7 960 @ 3.20 GHz, 20 GB of RAM. I want to keep Win7 on 2 TB drive and add WinXP on the other 1 TB internal drivw in a configuration dual-boot. The other two drives 1 TB external would be used for backups and data. I would like to be able to boot XP because I have many applications running on XP wothout having compatibility problems.  The two Win 7 and XP are complete versoins. Or that I would be better to try a virtual configuration?

Are you aware that you can install the free XP mode on your Windows 7 system?  Once installed, you can launch in 15 to 30 seconds as a task under Windows 7 and run your XP applications without having to reboot.  It works fine as long as you can live with the graphics.  The graphics of XP Mode are great for business applications.  This would be my first choice.

You will probably get the positions, which suggests a way to install XP and then download a program or two and patch in some places.  But for me it's much simpler to just create a small partition of 30 GB and make a 30-minute "quick and dirty" installation of a second absolutely minimal copy Windows 7 in there.  This will get all start after installing XP, if you decide to go this route.  It's not like intelectually sophisticated as more involved patchwork approach, but it is faster and easier.  As my professor of chemistry at first year said "anyone can make things complicated; He needs to make things simple.  I think the professor was very clever!

I hope this helps.  Good luck.

My computer is stuck in the loop "Update Configuration". Boots only in safe mode. I tried to do a system restore, but an error message appears that says:

To perform an offline system restore, you must specify which Windows installation you want to restore. For example, if the installation is in "C:\Windows:" should be restored, enter the following command: rstrui.exe/OFFLINE:C\Windows

    original title: no wireless network

That's your problem.  You will need to determine which makes your wireless card, go to their website and download the latest driver for 64-bit Windows 7 32 0r according to your material.  If its inbult to your computer, visit vender of your computer (HP, Toshiba, etc) for the correct driver.

  • T410: How Dual boot Win 7 with Ubuntu?

  • Dual boot Win 7 and Linux using factory restore DVD

    I have a HP Folio 13-2000, I like a lot

However, I've been a user of linux (Ubuntu or Mint) for many years.

I liked the installation of Win 7 64 bit, but he's been hogging my 128 GB SSD.

To cut a long story short, I screwed up the dual boot installation, (first time!), but at least I have created a series of 3 restore DVD beforehand.

So, I've been using Mint13 cinnamon and everything is dory hunk, but now I work at the Nepal and the only internet connection I have is a dongle USB CDMA of China Telecom, which works best with Windows.

So, I installed a 40 GB for Win 7 partition alongside my Linux Mint 15 in a 15 GB partition and tried to do the minimum installation from the DVD, in the hope of having a chance to install in the 40 GB partition.

I know how to get the boot of Linux back using Rescatux.

But I could see that he had no other choice, and Win 7 was going to wipe the entire disk.

Fortunately, I removed the external cable of DVD and has managed to reconstruct my Mint boot 13 again.

I don't want to delete and reinstall my Linux Mint13 as it works very well and is perfectly up to date, and there are a lot of files in the host partition is.

So, how can I do a restore factory, without this reformatting all partitions?

    Hi Slackbladder,

I strongly recommend that you copy the recovery on an external disk partition before you try that. I'm not aware of what specifically happens when you try it. An interesting thing is that in the HP BIOS, there is no option to turn on or turn off EFI mode.  If the partition is big enough it can work.

    Best regards

  • Dual Boot Win 7 and Linux and using Win 7 in a VM

I just bought a new laptop with Win 7 Home Premium installed. I want to dual boot Windows 7 and Linux and use Win 7 in a VM. What license I need upgrade who will allow me to do?

    Ivan.

Well, you can use your current license and install a program from the virtual machine and install your Linux distribution you want in the program of the virtual machine with Windows 7.

You will however need to a Windows 7 full version license.

Buy and download Windows 7 Professional, home sharing files...

Regarding the supported Virtual Machine programs, you can use the following text:

  • Problems with the installation of Win 7 on a dual boot Win 8 computer

I recently bought a new all-in-one computer with an operating system of Windows 8.  However, I have a program that should be used on a daily basis for which a version of Win 8 is not yet available.  I bought a copy of WIn7 and partitioned the terabyte of hard drive with the intention of installing Win 7 in the new partition and the dual boot of the computer.  However, when I try to install Win 7 from the installation disc, it error with an error message that says in order to restart the installation.  No matter how many times I reboot, the error message occurs at the same point - a few seconds after the message appears saying that the temporary files are copied.  What is the problem?

Of new computer models that are preloaded with Windows 8 have no support for Windows 7 and there is no native driver Windows 7.

In addition, when you install older versions in a dual-boot configuration, you must install the older version of Windows (Windows 7), then first 8 windows.

I recommend to install your Windows 7 in a virtual machine program and use the program here:

You can use alternatives such as Oracle VirtualBox or VMWare Player.

    https://www.VirtualBox.org/wiki/downloads

    VMware Player;

    http://downloads.VMware.com/d/details/player_401/dGpkYnRwd3didGRwQA==

Or you can upgrade to Windows 8 Pro and turn on the built in Hyper-V that you can use to run Windows 7.

Apple only supports Windows XP and Vista under Boot Camp and in turn VMware support that that Apple supports.  That said implementation of VMware Boot Camp market partition a Virtual Machine is wrong and can be problematic, because Apple does not guarantee the name of BSD to a Volume and VMware does not explain this and that has its own set of issues and has been covered before in this forum, so I will not repeat.  Now, that said if you really want to try to virtualize a training Camp does not support configuration you can try creating a Virtual Machine around him by using a raw disk, and this can be done with vmware-rawdiskcreator, so take a look at my answers in hard drive not found as a reference to the use of vmware-rawdiskcreator.

Also by default on a normal Boot Camp partition Fusion Virtual Machine cannot interrupt / Snapshot Boot Camp partition Virtual Machine and I do not know the parameters of Fusion 2.x to add Virtual Machines to the .vmx config file when manually creating a Machine virtual Boot Camp partition and warns the user if you Suspend or instant Boot Camp created manually partition the Virtual Machine and then run it natively you can potentially damage is beyond repair.

Now you really want to take any chances, virtualization of an operating system not supported on the Boot Camp partition with a product that does not even support an OS supported properly under the current circumstances?

I have a HP envy 14 beats edition which has a corrupt or missing of boot files.  The instructions are very simple, enter your windows cd, select language and then repair.  What happens if my laptop does not come with a cd of windows, just a restore cd?  How can I fix my files.  Please help, been on the phone with HP support for almost 2 hours, without success.  Download the files somewhere to initialize and repair my laptop computer os?

    Hello:

You can make your own W7 x 64 Ultimate installation from the link below DVD.

    http://MSFT.digitalrivercontent.NET/win/X17-59465.ISO X 17 - 59465.iso 2147483647 Windows 7

Download the above file and use either your option of ISO file burn on your favorite CD/DVD burning program to burn the ISO to a DVD file.

Or use this tool to transfer the ISO file downloaded to a flash USB DVD or 4 GB drive.  The tool also performs the bootable media.

    http://www.microsoftstore.com/store/msusa/HTML/pbPage.Help_Win7_usbdvd_dwnTool

Make sure you get the size of the entire file announced after it said full download on the ISO file.  Sometimes it says that the download was complete and missing a lot of the file.

Use the repair option on the lower left side of the window installation after booting from the DVD.

  • Dilemma of dual boot Win XP SP3 Pro and Windows 8 Pro

At this time, April 2013, I expect to build a desktop system dual boot with Windows 8 Pro for the current and future capabilities and Win XP Pro for continued use of legacy aps favorite who will not run on Win8. It turns out that the disc formats are a problem. The Win8 64 bit needs a partition format GPT to install 32-bit XP or XP Pro needs a format MBR partition to install. No OS will share the same format and a main drive cannot be formatted and partitioned in a type of format or the other. What to do? !! Two computers are not an acceptable answer; I want a 'box '. In addition, not interested in XP Mode embeded in Win8 or 'virtual machine '. One suggestion has been to run the operating system on separate disks. For me, this means that 2 SSD is to get performance on the two operating systems. Also, to move from one OS to another, you must restart; catch the key bios entry; change the boot sequence; Save/quit; and reboot. (Awkward!). So what to do with the data and documents - one NAS file storage (for example, disk WD Live 'cloud')? There's good news to have? Are there recent usability solutions to help solve the dilemma of the dual boot? A boot manager will really help and there a good "gift" there Boot Manager? Thoughts, anyone?

I have a custom system DIY mb Gigabyte Z77, processor i7-3770, running a fresh XP Pro SP3 Edition Builder.

The drive letter is not critical since XP, Windows 8 will still start as C: (even if the partition is Z: in Windows XP).

I pre-formatted Windows 8 partition before installing Windows 8 (named volume: Windows 8).

Then, when you reach the screen "Where install" during the installation of 8, choose the partition of Windows 8.

You can view other things is the BIOS, look for compatibility / legacy mode option.
