Configuration of several external editors

I use Lightroom 5.7.1 standalone Mac Yosemite. I use Photoshop Elements, Nik Collection, many "Topaz" Add ons, more Portrait Professional and Photomatix.

When configuring external editors, it seems to me only able to set up two "external editors". I don't know what the difference is supposed to be between an external editor and a plugin, but when I aim Nik Collection 'Plugin Manager' for example, it will not add them, but seems happy for them to be treated as external editors.

So assuming that it is correct to treat all the what above as external editors, so I can «edit in...» {"their use, how can I add them all in preferences} mounted?

I use Photoshop Elements as the first external editor. There is an option to add a second, but I don't see how, having configured for Color Efext Pro for example that I can then save it and have a new (i.e. the third, fourth, fifth etc etc etc) configured external editor. I always reconfigure this second option in the external editor for another program when I want to use it, I can't imagine is supposed to be functioning.

LR experts can shed light on what I should do. I searched many sites explains how to configure the external editor but I do not find anything discussing how to implement several external editors, i.e. more than two.

Worminger

Worminger, you are missing a crucial step:

After you [choose] another external application, you must click the drop down menu arrow at the end of the "Preset:" box, and then select "Save current settings as new preset" this will ADD your new preset for Presets: list.

It can be misleading because you will always see the name of one of the predefined existing applications in the "Preset:" box. Don't know what you see! When you select "Save...". "you have the option of ADDING the new preset with the name you want to give him. On the second screen clip below I save a new preset for FotoSketcher (...-2) Although 'Nik Viveza 2015' appears in the preset: box.

And, as Mike said above, you can have several presets for the same application, using the different options.

You use the text editor and not a word processor, Write.exec or integrated coding environment. Notepad ++ or TextPad are both capable when properly configured for the type of file being processed.

  • Question Lightroom external editor

Hey everybody, after a recent update for Lightroom (latest version) Despite me saying the prefs I want to open this file in Photoshop CC 2014 he continually ignores this and opens the file in the 2015 version - the option is there in the export dialog, but he simply ignores my instructions. Is Adobe trying to discourage us to use the 2014 version now? I really hope not that I need to use the version of 2014 due to the problems of brush healing in 2015 - anyone else seeing this?

Definition of the 'old' version of Photoshop is also simple to add to the list "of additional external editors" in the preferences.

For Ironman - The default Photoshop will be CC2015.6.1 and the 'additional external editor"CC2015.1.2

(or default CC2015 and additional CC2014 in the case of Andy).

When setting up the 'additional external editor"it is important that you choose the appropriate version of 'old' app/exe program file.

When you right-click on a photo and click [Edit-In] you will have two lists for the PS, one for each version.

In the same way, you can create several 'additional external editors"that point all to ch, but with different options for the type of file and profile (for example PSD, TIFF, JPG, etc.)

Following my last response moments ago, I tried again to edit a photo in iPhoto in PSE13 AND IT worked!  I followed with several tests and all successful.  I have no idea of what has changed, and for the moment, I don't have more.  I appreciate very much your help and your patience with me during that fight.

  • External Editor does not

I'm running on a Mac OS x 10.6.8 Lightroom 4 and using elements 10 as my external editor.  When I right click and select EDIT and choose the items, nothing happens.  When you configure the elements as my editor for the LR, I'm sure I chose the right folder for items.  I also tried to delete and restore the default values and then setting up the elements once again.  No dice.

    Here's what I see-

  • Can not find the right PES file to add to the external editor LR4

Hi I'm new to LR and evolving with LR4.  I'm implementing the PES as my external editor.

I use PSE8 and am on a Mac OS x.  When I go into the preferences of LR and try and choose PSE as my additional external editor, I hit choose which shows the Finder.  I go to the Applications folder and click the PSE taking me in a folder.  The only other icon that looks like it is possible in the Adobe Photoshop Elements.app.  I hit select and it looks good, but then when I try to open the photos in my external editor does nothing.

I guess I picked the wrong file but can't for the life of find me the right one.  Should I be looking for an .exe file and if so, where do you find on a Mac?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you

    Monique

    Hi Monique,

Yes, it looks that you have configured PSE8 properly as an external editor.  However, it also seems that if you are one of the many users, including myself, who was bitten by a bug of LR4 which prevents any opening of any external editor with the command change in.  Adobe is aware and working on a fix.  In the meantime, the temporary solution (for Mac users) is to download a trial version of CS5.  You don't need to use CS5 or even open it, but install it makes some components available for LR4 that allows the command change in works again.  If you would like more information, please see the thread on the site of your comments:

  • Customization of file name when you use an external editor - only one file name can be used by all editors?

I have a number of external publishers defined for my application of LR 3.3 Win7. In my preferences when I customize how an editor say, Photoshop CS5, maintains a file, I can put the name of the file edited - for example, {Filename} - ed.psd. However, if I change the name of file changed to another external editor, say to {file name} - SilverEfexPro.psd, this file name is used for all modified files externally. What I am doing wrong? Thank you!

    Dilip

    Dilip,

You do not have something wrong. The file name pattern to use is valid for all external publishers defined. This can also be seen by looking at the section, where the file name pattern can be defined (not in the section where individual editors can be configured).

  • Open the file in the external editor

I put the Publisher external (maximum 6) in the preferences window, but I can't seem to find how to open the file in the external editor. Apple says that go to:

    • Choose Options > Audio > 'Open in [external sample editor]' (or use the corresponding key command).

    What 's' Options ' enigmatic?

I thought about it. Apple should update their documentation.

  • External Editor for Photos: update is released

The new update for the extension to "External editor for Photos" photo editing AppStore seems promising:

We can change the list of external editors that displays and get rid of items that aren't really publishers.  We can also convert RAW to TIFF.

has someone already tried this new version?

I installed and made my list of favorites from the editors.  A feature very convenient.  If you add a Publisher/app accidentally in the Favorites control (right) - click can remove it.

I was just on the App Store there is little time to date of other applications, and it was not listed.  You're certainly on top of things. Thank you.

  • Photo and external editor

    Hello

Before with iPhoto, we can open a RAW with Camera RAW (PhotoShop) image comes to choose the external editor like photoshop, but now I think it's impossible.

Anyone know how to open a picture directly by Photo in Camera RAW?

    Thank you

    Louis

Until 3 third-party developers update their software so it can interface with Photos, you need to export the RAW file on the desktop, it change it, save the change in jpeg or tiff and import the new file in the library.

What version of Photoshop are you using?  Newer versions can access the library through its Open line Media Browser interface ➙ ➙.

Event if you can access the library with your version of Photoshop, the modified version must still be saved to the desktop and imported into the library as a new file.

  • When you connect 1 or several external USB drives, why is the letter a * shoot?

When you connect 1 or several external USB drives, why is the letter a * shoot? Referencing external drives through library (Windows V7) becomes a really shiny, totally useless feature without consistency of drive letter. Or unnecessary to be a design goal? I almost had it still works but who finally to 3 minutes). What it will take to make useful new features?

Windows assigns the first available on the first hard drive connected and one drive letter to another and so on.  Always has, always will. What will help sometimes (but), is to open disk from an elevated command prompt management and adversely affect permanent a letter from your external drive which is much higher than the letters in use.  This will often allow the will to keep a letter.

  • A Catalogue of several external hard drives. What is my best option?

Hello, I've just filled to the top of my external hard drive that hold all my files and my LR catalog. I want to continue to use the same catalog, but with a new HD... What is the way most common people this? I thought that if I put the catalog on my desktop - so if I open it with my new HD plugged I only see photos of my other images? Or is there a better way to do it? Thank you very much!!!

The location of the catalog and the location of your images are completely independent of each other.

    For example,.

    My catalogues: d:\lr6_catalogs

    Catalog backups: c:\lr_cat_backups

My pictures: (internal) d:\from_camera, q:\from_camera (external)

    image backups: p:\from_camera

I put catalogs on my internal drive, they very slightly longer run fast.

External drives come and go; Add more as needed.

If you are dealing with multiple computers, you can put the catalog and images and the same external drive and move the drive from one computer to the other.

If you use several external drives, and some of them are disconnected, LR will show previews and thumbnails in the LR cache (located in the catalog). Necessary for files located on disconnected drives will be indicated as "missing" until you connect the drive.

If you want to use a larger cache, you can enable Smart previews, which allow you to do an edition more than normal when the original files were defeated.

    As I do this:

    Internal catalog on disk

original images on external drives, grouped by date (new images in the new player)

Previews are standard previews, 'auto' for my monitor

no need for intelligent previews as the external drive 'current' is still attached

  • Lightroom spoil the photos when you use the external editor

    Hello world

When I export images to an external editor, Lightroom moves the image and the copy of it at the end of the stack. This is a new phenomenon, generally the image remains in place and the copy is simply attached to it (chronological order). I use Lightroom 5.7, external editors are PSE 14 and affinity Photo. Problem with the two editors as well. No recent update, no change in the settings. Can you help me?

  • Using Photoshop Elements and Photoshop CC as an external editor in LIghtroom

I've recently upgraded to LIghtroom CC and it came bundled with Photoshop CC.  I've always used what to change in the past and now is no longer an option of Lightroom Edit - on the menu drop down. The only options for me on the menu drop down LIghtrooms is CC in Photoshop and Color Effex Pro 4.  I am unable to do certain things in Photoshop I did for years in the elements. Can I add items back as secondary external editor or am I forced to use one or the other... Appreciate any help you can provide

Under the options "Additional external editor", the second line is an application. There is a button to choose, you can click on browse and find Photoshop Elements and that it is the secondary external editor choose.
