Consolidation of virtual machine disk is necessary
Hi all, I met one of my VM that have the warning message "disc of virtual machine consolidation is necessary" and I check and there is no existing snapshots in snapshot Manager.
When I browse the data store I have a lot of vmdk files such as below. How can I correctly to clear up? It is a production server so it would be safe for me to power off?
Running the ESX ESX Server 5.1 U1
Server1_00.VMDK 157GB
Server1.VMDK 41GB
Server1_1 - 000002.vmdk 18 MB
Server1 - 000001.vmdk 18 MB
Server1-0000001 - ctk.vmdk 2. 5 MB
Server1_1 - 000001.vmdk 18 MB
Server1_1-0000001 - ctk.vmdk 4 MB
Server1_1-0000002 - ctk.vmdk 4 MB
Server1 - 000002.vmdk 18 MB
Server1-0000002 - ctk.vmdk 4 MB
Server1 Snapshot.vmsn 19KO
Server1 - 000003.vmdk 210 MB
Server1-000003 - ctk.vmdk 2 MB
Server1_1 - 000003.vmdk 250 MB
Server1_1-000003 - ctk.vmdk 4 MB
Just right click on the virtual machine and select "snapshot" and then select "consolidate."

Consolidation of Virtual Machine disk is necessary question
Today, I have one of my virtual downwards because the error message that says that "there is no more space for disk virtual xxxxx - 000018.vmdk.» you might be able to continue this session by freeing up disk space on the relevant volume by clicking on try again"
I want to know why this happened if I make my virtual with 1.5 to and my server is new... so for the most part the server have 300 GB in use... I also had 750 GB available for an another virtual and that the question, why this virtual grow too much and too quickly?
Also when this happened how can I do to solve this problem, how disk space if I did a single data store with al the available space.
The suggestions will be welcome.
Thanks for you comments.

In the files you posted, it appears that 000002 and 000007 files are not in use by the virtual machine, but the others are. What I recommend you do is to open the Snapshot Manager, create a new snapshot and then run "Delete All". This should clean all the snapshots except for the two mentioned above. If this is the case, shut down the virtual computer and move the two snapshots listed in a subfolder (to be able to restore them in case I'm wrong), then power on the virtual machine again. If there is no error, you can delete the moved files.
Unfortunately I can't see any rule, snapshots are used and that have been created just for adding hot backup not, so you should always have to understand this from scratch. At least for the moment until Acronis comes up with a fix, you need to delete snapshots manually on a daily basis since the Snapshot Manager (create a new cliché-> Delete All) to avoid any trouble with too many active snapshot on the virtual computer.
You have another virtual computer that has NOT "changed block Tracking" on, to see if the problem is related to the CBT!

Virtual machine set up their: consolidation of necessary virtual machine disk.
a virtual machine guest: set up number: consolidation of necessary virtual machine disk.
I click on this virtual machine > > snapshot > > Consolidation.then about a minute.
He failed: cannot access < unspecified file name > file because it is locked
This question well in the base backup tool VADP Storage API. This file is locked by worker VPXA get. Then restart (host managegemnt connection) services vpxa and spend on your host and redo the consolidation 1) disable alarm processing host connection failure and failure of network connection (to avoid unnecessary alarm0 2) connection to the host through ssh) 3 run # /etc/init.d/hostd restart and restart # etc/init.d/vpxa, 4) re-do the consolidation of the vm.

Workflow list and range from virtual machine disk
Hello
I need to create a workflow that virtual disks of list of a virtual machine, defined in the input parameter.
So I have 2 questions:
How can I list a specific virtual machine disks?
-I can't find how to access this information
-Is it possible to fill a field of presentation after you have selected the virtual machine?
,
Best regards
Hello
find the code of an action that loops through all the devices of a given virtual computer and returns an array containing the keys of the device below. You can then use it in a decorator for the workflow to let the user select a drive.
See you soon,.
Joerg
var devices = vm.config.hardware.device; var diskCount = 0; var diskArray = new Array();

Consolidation of the VM disks is necessary
Hi all
After removing snapshots via orchestrator, login in the VI client, the VM summary shows "configuration issues" "consolidation of disks of virtual machines is necessary."
Could you guide me how to do consolidation by orchestrator.
"
var logtext;
{if (activeSnapshot.config)}
vmName var = activeSnapshot.config.name;
var snapshotID = activeSnapshot.id;var task = activeSnapshot.removeSnapshot_Task (removeChildren);
var task = activeSnapshot.removeSnapshot_Task (consolidate);
actionResult var = System.getModule("com.vmware.library.vc.basic").vim3WaitTaskEnd (task);logText = 'The snapshot with the id' + snapshotID + "virtual machine" "+ vmName +" ' has been deleted.";"
} else {}
logText = 'The snapshot with the id' + activeSnapshot.id + 'has already been removed.';
}Content = content + "< br >" + logtext;
System.log (logText); »Note:-the above code belongs to remove code from snapshot.
I did a few tests we are trying to do the same. It seems that the default workflow that VMware has included has something about the documentation in its documentation of the API.
vCenter Server 5.1 plugin API Reference for vCenter Orchestrator
(Excerpt from the documentation for vOrchestrator API 5.1.1)
===============================
removeSnapshot_Task
Removes this snapshot and removes any associated storage.
Parameters
Name Type Description removeChildren Boolean Flag to indicate the deletion of the instant whole subtree. consolidate*. Boolean (optional) If set to true, the virtual disk associated with this snapshot will be merged with the other drive if possible. The default value true. * No need to define
Return value
Type Description VcTask =================================================
The literature tells us that the .removeSnapshot_Task function does not require the condolidate of Snapshots parameter to be set to true, as it does by default (This seems to be false, at least in this case). When I added the sections highlighted in the following code in the schema element 'Remove the snapshot' does not come to the top with the alert.
The value if you want to consolidate the disk
var consolidateSS = true
Remove the snapshot
var task = activeSnapshot.removeSnapshot_Task (removeChildren, consolidateSS);
actionResult var = System.getModule("com.vmware.library.vc.basic").vim3WaitTaskEnd (task);
Please keep in mind that this should be tested in a test environment before deploying to production. I hope that this helps out and saves some headaches

How im can extract the value of the persistence of virtual machine disk?
Dear friends
How im can extract the value of the value of the persistence of disks of virtual machines?
IM using the bellows of the order, I have a if to check if the disks are independent or not
but im only want values of the persistence of the column to use in my script
Get-disk hard - vm machine01
CapacityGB persistence Filename
---------- ----------- --------
10 000 persistent [LUN2] RJ7469SR039/RJ7469SR039.vmdk
8 000 persistent [rate2] RJ7469SR039/RJ7469SR039_1.vmdk
Thank you

In your example, you just use Select-Object
Get-disk hard - vm machine01 | Select the Parent, persistence
The parent is the name of the virtual machine

Virtual MACHINE disk SSD and SATA III?
Hello
I am building a new workstation tech support and will greatly appreciate your advice:
In short, I am migrating from a 92 GB 32-bit Win7 with the only platform of RAM 4 GB, for a Win8 - 64 bit with 32 GB of RAM platform. From experience, I know that it will take months of "free time" until I can complete installation, configuration, data migration and upgrade of all Win8 software I need to run my business on a daily basis. In terms of continuity of activity for the moment, my way of thinking is to:
Install a fresh Win8 64-bit in a C: partition of 125 GB on a new 250 GB SSD.
Create logical partition D: on the remaining 125 GB SSD.
I'll then P2V old Win7 on a new VM VMware on the D: partition.
BTW, I'm not looking for methodology on the mechanics of the P2V here, because it is beyond the scope of this post and I know how to do this with the VMware products and 3rd party utilities.
This should help:
1. gradually get the host physical Win8 upward and entirely configured at my convenience, being able to continue to run Win7 in the VM for my daily activities.
2. enjoy benefits and features of productivity which offers VMware Workstation on the competition.
3. enjoy the impressive speed expected to have the VM Win7 on an SSD.
4. several months from now when I need is more VM Win7 for daily activities, move the VM Win7 off the SSD (more than one pin SATA III), delete the D: partition out of the SSD and resize the partition of Win8 to use any DSS.
If I do the migration of this way, Win8, I can do (part 3) full backups / incremental of Win8 C:partition and partition D: Win8 (which holds the VM Win7), the image separately as an activity based on required on these partitions. Yes, with the stop of the VM or suspended of course during imaging of 3rd party partition.
The $64 questions are therefore:
5. the sound that precedes like a plan?
6. or, it would be better to just install Win8 on the SSD of 250 GB of space (with VMware Workstation installed of course) and put the VM Win7 on the pin SATA III that contains my other virtual machines? My 3rd party software Imaging allows full/incremental file, so I could just save the VM Win7 directory on this axis. I can see potential disk latency issues in this scenario, if I have the old VM Win7 running and at the same time also work on (for example) two guests Windows Server of pre-production with a few guests of Win7/Win8 (to test ERP software or question MSSQL). There are five virtual machines running on this SATA III 7200 RPM spindle.
Sorry, that was so long. I look forward to your thoughts and comments.
Kind regards...
Personally speaking I use the SSD together as a single partition and have a low spindle drive where you can run your file exchange and the VM, it would be different if you were running multple VM and wanted that they have spun fast and enjoyable, but as it's a loophole to stop until you get all migrate by then I don't see why you want to divide the SSD.
My MSI laptop has 2 SSD mSATA, the operating system of the House and a brooch my VM and file exchange and tbh I don't suffer at all with performance, I even was called to run virtual machines running (plural) from a device USB 3 instead.

The maximum for a virtual machine disk size
Hello
Can I create a disk to a virtual machine that is larger then 2 TB?
On a physical box, you convert dynamic disks and their band... but I think VMware recommend snot of dynamic disks.
Thanks in advance...
Hello
2 TB is the max and also the MAX for several operating systems. If for any reason any if you need then you will need to do a bunch of multiple VMDK.
For more information about the maximum size please see: http://kb.vmware.com/kb/1003565

What is my type of virtual machine disk?
How do I know what type of vm disk?
I have a lot of files hard all less than 2 GB so I guess that I have a shared rather than a monolithic disc drive.
How know if I have a sparse or pre-allocated drive?

The fact that they are all less then 2 GB it means a split disc are rare otherwise they would all be all of the 2 GB.
Whether if it is a drive IDE or SCSI, you can view the settings of Virtual Machines for both the Bus type and so pre-alloacted.

Virtual machine disk expansion
I asked a while ago enlarge my capacity of virtual disk by removing the beginning .net [1-3] and found out it is a no-no. I promised to update my progress with the extension - in case anyone was interested.
Freebie VMware Player, unlike the Workstation, is limited to the size of 40 GB drive. I cleared all the extras on my Win XP and put extra spacing available only - another virtual disk, where I can keep all my work files and backups. XP has now more than 3 GB to work in, and I run Smart Defrag to keep tidy C: drive. I know that this isn't in the commercial interest of MSN, but I can't afford to upgrade my Win 7 or buy new COREL programs run on my present 7 HPE.
I mean on the Virtual XP disk management, I created a 20 GB partition, I called V. There is no way to extend the initial allocation of 40 GB VMware in the VM reader.

Consolidation of virtual machines to a custom policy
I have a group of VMs that currently do not reside in the same folder, but are identified by a naming only through multiple vcenters scheme. * acmevms *.
I can't combine them into the same folders. In vSphere UI-> Configuration-> manage strategies, how can I better apply a strategy custom for them? I don't want to have to manually select the 400 VMS and add them to the group...
Thank you!
Create a custom group. Is he filled dynamically. Add virtual machines by criteria name contains acmevms. This will dynamically fill all virtual machines with this generic term.

Virtual MACHINE disk, but not in the inventory
I have a virtual machine that has disappeared from the inventory, but is still in the (non-local) data store. In my view, that it was off. I tried to add to the inventory, but received a message that a virtual machine is already registered with that name. I believe that these are the steps that led to this State:
I had a consultant in an ESXi host to replace it with a new one and a few weeks ago. All virtual machines have been moved out of the old host. The virtual machine in question was arrested that we did not use it. I just noticed today that it was not in the inventory because now I'm ready to use it.
Another change that happened a few weeks ago was replacement unit vCenter vCenter. I don't know if who had nothing to do with him or not.
Any suggestions how I could see the virtual machine in the inventory again?
Hello
As you can see this message, "received a message that a virtual machine is already registered with that name", while adding another virtual machine name use inventory. However, be sure that this virtual machine is not already.

Consolidation of necessary Virtual Machine disk
Hi all
I have a virtual appliance for vShield Manager and I am not able to turn on. It is said "Consolidation of disk. If I try to turn it on, it gives the error:
An error was received from the ESX host turning on VM vShield Manager.
Cannot open disk ' / vmfs/volumes/vShield Manager/vShield Manager - 000002.vmdk' or one of the snapshot disks it depends on.
The virtual disk parent has changed since the child was created. The content of the virtual disk ID parent does not match the ID of parent for children's content
If I browse the data on which the virtual appliance door store, I see the file hard 000001.vmdk and 000002.vmdk.
I did SSH to the esxi host and using vi attempted to verify the descriptor files vmdk disk file to change the CID but vi vShield Manager.vmdk is empty. There is no content inside the VMDK files.
How can any suggestion I solve this problem?
Thanks-AG
Ed. VMX and change 000002.vmdk to 000001.vmdk.
Try the power, remove all snapshots.

Script of cli power consolidation for virtual machines
We get a number of necessary groups every morning when entered in our test environments, someone knows the best way to configure a script to run in order to consolidate the vms who needed?
I tried using the command below:
to connect-viserver VCENTERSERVER
Get - VM |
Where-Object {$_.} Extensiondata.Runtime.ConsolidationNeeded} |
{ForEach-Object
$_. ExtensionData.ConsolidateVMDisks)
}
disconnect viserver VCENTERSERVER-confirm: $FALSE
with a pointing to it--batch file
C:\WINDOWS\system32\windowspowershell\v1.0\powershell.exe - PSConsoleFile "C:\Program Files (x 86) \VMware\Infrastructure\vSphere PowerCLI\vim.psc1" "&"C:\Consolidation_Script\Consolidation_Script.ps1 ".
I expected this, but still see consolidation: Burkina Faso / vms, can someone help to?
May be that the script fails because of plug-in software component PowerCLI has not loaded. Try to add the line to your script (add it as the first line) and check if it works.

I need an option to add a new disk that is located on another data store (Serial attached SCSI for each ESXi disk)
dsbrowse.pl - name dscs1-vp-sb1
Summary
Name: vp-dscs1-sb1
Location: ds: / / / vmfs/volumes/5309af02-0ba1ac70-e723-10604bb454c8 /.
File system: VMFS
Maximum capacity: 931,25 GB
Available space: 930.2978515625 GB
I tried to use a vdiskcreate.pl, but it is not an option to use different data store for a new drive and always creates a new drive on a nfs datastore.
It is fairly easy to do with a wizard, but I have to run it ~ 50 times
Thank you
