control of Instruments of California 3091LD load Programmable with LabVIEW
I need to check a California Instruments programmable load 3091LD with LabVIEW. It will be connected with GPIB. Can anyone provide me with the help on this please? It will be very appreciated if someone could give some example for the device codes.
Thank you.
Hello Niyam,
I found directly a driver for LabVIEW Instrument for this specific instrument, but there are some other devices of California Instruments for:
Beside that, I also found this page on their Web site:
http://www.acdcelectronicloads.com/products/3091LD/3091LD_Downloads.htm
Here, they do not mention a LabVIEW driver, but they have a driver of the CVI.
Do you find yourself however the manual there, which may be useful to evry.
Can you check with the manufacturer (California Instruments) if they have a Driver of Instrument LabVIEW?
Beside that, it would also be a good idea (totally) go through this tutorial of LabVIEW:
http://www.NI.com/gettingstarted/labviewbasics/
This should teach you a few basics in LabVIEW.

Best way to code structure to control several instruments
Hello
I am a novice but not inexperienced labview programmer. I'm writing a labview code to control a physical optical experiement. This involves writing a GUI which of your interfaces then with a variety of instruments (such as motorized turntables, lock-in amplifiers, power supplies, Renault, etc...) all connected to the computer through various means. All the instruments are delivered with their own labview drivers to complete their most important functions. Essentially, the instruments will operate independently, but occasionally, will be a set of steps involving several instruments (such as move, take a step, move again,...)
My question is what is the best way to structure the top level VI where all GUI controls? I have currently the code structured so that each instrument has an event structure that manages keys and commands for it. Simple events like the movement are dealt with in the cases where structures themselves while queues and occurrences are then used to handle more complicated events in external loops. It is an appropriate way to handle this scenario, or is it that most commonly architecture?
Thank you for the help
You play with fire when using several structures of the event. My preferred method for executing an instrument that has a 'stream' mode (example: a spectrometer where you always see the spectrum), is to provide that it is a clean line, with a dequeue item. The 'element' may have a message part (or State) in the form of an enum or string, as well as some data in the form of a Variant. You want to set a parameter, you could send a cluster containing the enum "Set the parameter" as well as the value of the parameter in the form of a Variant. The default case would be to get a spectrum and update a graph (or send another message to a user interface management loop that updates the chart).
You can open the project template QMH who comes with LabVIEW to see how a line would work, and then you can add multiple queues for different instruments. I keep the new loops in their own SubVIs and reference to the queue in a global functional to clean the main schema.
Here is an example of what your data of the module flow record might look like (the string constant empty considered double quotes is by default to expire the message dequeue)

With LabVIEW how to control an instrument with a RS232 output, using a USB RS232 converter cable, since I do not have rs232 ports. I have two instruments I want for the control in this way. One is a guarantee of strength Imada SPAS with RS232 output. The other is a micrometer Panasonic HL-G103-S-J laser sensor which is RS422. I have done significant programming LabVIEW using GPIB, but I have no experience with devices such as these. No matter what tutorial or examples would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.
When you plug the USB-RS-232 converter, it installs a driver under Windows which makes it look like any other RS-232 port. You may need to install the driver of everything that came on the CD with the converter. It will get a Com as Com5 port number according to what is the next available number.

I'm new to Labview, currently only using the trial version. There is money in my budget to buy control software, but I need to qualify my needs.
What I try to do is to control several pieces of equipment to test as a single system, which allows me to perform automated on conventional measures
and digital two way radios.
Here is a list of the material I want to control:
First of all, my controller is a & Rohde Schwarz 3 PSL. Fully GPIB active and ready. It is the PC control software will reside on.
Equipment:
Spectrum analyser Rohde & Schwarz FSEA 30 with modulation analysis package digital option B7
FSEA 30 second, same configuration
R & S AMIQ4 I / modulation generator Q (files of the software residing on the PSL3)
Generator of analog signals from R & S SMY 02
Agilent E4431B analog-to-digital signal generator
Agilent E4406A spectrum analyzer/digital radio test set
E4418B Agilent RF wattmeter with sensor
General Dynamics R2670B service monitor
A typical application will be a test of classical radio on VHF or UHF analog channel.
The idea is to enter pass and receive frequencies through Labview or any software is best suited for the job, as well as modulation parameters.
and have the following things occur: assume usage of 150,000 MHz with a FM frequency modulated 1 kHz sounds modulated to the deviation of 2.5 KHz
in total, with your 127,3 Hz subaudible to a gap of 300 Hz
Test phase of receiver: send commands to control of instrument of Agilent E4431B signal generator. Level set to-60 dBm. Set to 150,000 MHz frequency. Set
Audio 1 to 1 KHz and audio tone 2 to 127,3 Hz at a level of 8 pecent of your 1. SD total do not exceed 2.5 KHz. Inject the test signal into port RX
on the radio.
The value R2670B SINAD function, related to the radio via the audio output port.
Signal level to ramp down to the SINAD falls to 12 dB.
Increase the level of the signal to the attenuation of 20dB. Measure the audio distortion.
Testing of transmitter: using the attenuators appropriate necessary on the analyzers of spectrum, and/or using a switched network of wiring.
place radio to transmit using above specifications frequency and modulation. Analyzers to receive on the frequency designated value
and measure the transmitter specifications, including nonessential radiation measurement and harmonics. Measure actual output power
Via E4418B-power meter.
I use two monitors to perform multiple tests in a same transmission. One is optimized for spectral purity tests while
the other analysis of modulation characteristics. Frequency, duration and RBW are defined according to the needs.
When you test a digital radio, the signal chain is slightly different. The AMIQ I / Q modulation generator s I / Q outputs are sent to the
I / Q inputs on the Agilent generator, the power is on to accept external I / entered Q and the FSEA Spectrum Analyzer (an a)
the) is passed to a preset that implements all relevant digital parameters so that it can be used to directly evaluate the digital transmissions.
It is not a very developed in the planning system, but I do not know now whether Labview is everything I need or if I'll need to Teststand or another
software packages.
I'll probably want to ask for some advice on how to get this set up, eventually.
LabVIEW is more than capable of this task. That's what it was designed to do. Use the help > find the instrument Drivers to find and install the drivers that you can use to control and read.
TestStand generally requires the use of a programming language. It runs the tests that you write and provides functionality built for the production of record and report database then you would need to write these modules yourself with LabVIEW fair and some add on box to tools. For a single test configuration, it is perhaps an exaggeration, but it is interesting to watch as an addition.

If I use my like my DAQ GPIB controller to control my instruments?
Hi, I am a beginner in BT and need your help for dead on my undrestanding clarification:
Suppose I want to control 7 instruments (such as temperature sensor, osciloscope,...), instruments using my GPIB controller, in other words, my pieces as my DAQ GPIB (am I right this step?) doesn't not need to communicate between them, but whenever I read the temperature value, I'm doing some calculations in my code LV and then decide what changes apply to instruments for example reduction of the frequency of the signal generator , pls I would like to know if I have done my DAQ correctly? (I mean if the GPIB controller acts as my DAQ) then comment how to decide what kind of GPIB is suitable for my work
I really need your help,
Thank you
elahetal,
If you have all the tools you need, you now have the following equipment (to summarize)
(1) to a computer. It must be decently fast, especially if you order 5 + machines, but it should not be surprising.
(2) a GPIB card that works with your computer (PCI slot or PCIe, etc.). I HIGHLY recommend a NI GPIB card, especially if you use it to write a labview program. 3 party cards can complicate your life village.
(3) GPIB cables to each machine (if you have 2 computers, there are 2 cables). If a machine is not a GPIB connector, it can not be controlled of GPIB. There may be a RS-232 or USB drive. These connections need not a GPIB cable, they need their respective cables. Some machines also cannot be digitally controlled. A DMM from the 1960s is probably not the connectors or the internal hardware to be part of your installation. Make sure that each piece of equipment can be controlled by the computer
Things I would do to get started on your code LV.
(1) download the drivers for each instrument. The drivers are code LV, when it is executed, allowing you to communicate with your instrument. Some drivers are pre-assembled with interfaces that resemble your machine controls, others come with orders but no interface. The quality of each driver can vary. If there is no such thing as no driver, reading extensively the manual of the instrument and the protocols of the connection you are using (GPIB, USB, etc.).
(2) get each work unit separately. If you can get each device to be controlled entirely by computer, you are 80% of the way. This can take a long time. I know that I took several weeks to get each device works correctly. Once, you have separate codes and know that each device can be controlled by the computer (or only dump information), then you are ready to code.
(3) build the master code by bringing together the different parts. If you think of him as Fortran or C programming, it becomes very easy.
Regarding semantics, data acquisition is the whole plant; instruments + computer + GPIB. Your computer is the controller and the bus is the GPIB cables where are transmitted data, commands and responses. Read up on it.

How can I control Sierra Instruments MFC using LabVIEW without the necessary drivers?
I am trying to program these MFCs with labview and it would be much easier with the drivers. I have chekced OR network driver and can't find anything. If anyone knows how to program controllers without drivers, or even better, if anyone knows where I can find the drivers, it would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

How can I control external devices using a stand-alone touchscreen with a LabVIEW app
For my senior project my group design and created a vehicle for extended range hybrid with 90 Li + battery which is charged by a 15 kW generator and/or who is also charged by a 5 kW fuel cell. Currently, our system is able to measure the tension on batteries and display them on a laptop via LabVIEW. To process these data, we use a cRIO FPGA. What we would like to do now, is having a touch screen for the pilot to choose which loads of source of battery power so that monitor a pressure reading from the fuel tank.
What kind of touch screens to LabVIEW to be downloaded on and used for controls?
A cRIO has the necessary capacity to supply such a screen and handle the transfer of the data from the sensor fuel and relay (for turning on and off will deepen)?
Do I need an additional license to create stand-alone applications and how I would go about creating a stand-alone application?
Sorry for the question as much. Any help with the answer. Thank you!
This looks like a very interesting project. If you are interested, National Instruments organizes an contest of Design student where you can win cash or a trip to Austin for NIWeek.

NEITHER sells computers touch screen that can be used to control LabVIEW applications. You can find more information here: HMIS and industrial touch panels and here: LabVIEW Real-time and Touch Panel Deployment and replication resources. Our computers 6-inch touchscreen , run Windows CE, programming on them is a little different from the programming on a full Windows operating system. You can find useful getting started with LabVIEW Touch Panel Module .
You can use third-party with the LabVIEW Touch Panel Module devices, although it takes a deployment license for it. More information can be found in the getting started guide.
If you were able to send the information of cRIO on a network (which according to your description, seems unlikely), you can use a smartphone to control your application. More information on our community of Smartphone group.

If you use the 6-inch touchscreen panels, they need 18 to 32 VDC (the fuse becomes an open circuit if the input level exceeds 33 VDC). The transfer of data from the switching relay can be monitored and changed with the touch screen.

If you have traveled the road of the touch panel, you need to purchase the LabVIEW Touch Panel Module and a touchscreen. Touchscreens OR have a touch panel deployment license. Guides step by step to create the stand-alone application are in the getting started with LabVIEW Touch Panel Module .

Possible GPIB communication through interactive control of Visa, not with Labview
Hello
I have a communication problem with Labview with GPIB instruments (with functions of visa).
I get:
"Error 1073807298 occurred at the VISA opening
Possible reasons:
"VISA: (Hex 0xBFFF003E) failed to perform operation due to i/o error."
However, it works with an interactive control visa and this is where I am confused!
Here is my setup:
-Labview 2011 assessment
-VISA 5.1.2
KUSB - 488B with the associated drivers (adapter USB to GPIB of Keithley)
Because I can speak with my instruments in visaic, I guess the installation of drivers for the Keithley interface is ok.
Trace IO NOR I see beeing of commands passed through Labview to VISA so that they "see" between them.
I found a thread where someone had the same problem and its solution was downgrade to Labview 8.5.1, which is not possible for me.
You have an idea to solve this problem?
Kind regards
Baptist
Here's a follow-up on this issue.
I tried with Labview 32-bit on main machine: it works.
The pleasure is that I have to use Labview 64-bit.
So the ultimate solution is now to run a client and a server of visa on the machine: Labview 32 bit can directly access my resources GPIB, Labview 64-bit must go through the closure of the network.

Hello
I recently implemented an ABB ACS550 player to control an air blower speed. I was control the player through the interface on the disc itself. However, I am now looking to control the device with LabVIEW. I don't know where to start and I was wondering if someone could explain what I would need the equipment and the basic principles on how this control can be implemented.
Thank you!

How to use Extech Instruments model 407123 with Labview 7.1
I'm pretty new to Labview. With the help of this forum, I was able to configure my DAQpad 6020E with my Labview 7.1.
Now, I'm looking at using an Extech Instruments Thermo-anemometre to hot wire (407123) in my experience and it works through Labview. According to my research, I was led to believe that I have to use the Instrument i/o Assistant and NI-Visa, but I'm having a lot of difficulties. First, the thermo-anemometre is wired for a RS232 interface and I connected to an interface RS232 converter USB, which is then plugged into my computer. I have the driver for the converter. When I plug the thermo-anemometre into my computer, MAX it reads as a serial port and it is listed as COM3. MAX argues that the device works properly. However, when I run e/s and Labview Instrument wizard say to read the data, I get an error of bff0015 and it says that the device has expired. I tried to change the time and I still get the same error. I guess that means that Labview and my device are not communicating.
I saw a mention of the pilots of the instrumentation, but I could not find my particular device. I guess that's the root of my problem and that if I had an instrument driver to run my device in Labview that it works correctly. So here are my questions.
(1) what should I take data by a third party thermo-anemometre in Labview?
(2) am I correct in thinking I need some kind of driver instruments? And if so, where could I find one (I have already searched for one and he did not)?
(3) is possible and practical to take data through an instrument of party DAQpad Labview and a third at the same time?
(4) are there guides or tutorials that I could use that can show me how to do what I'm doing?
Thank you.
When I tried to add a new target under LabVIEW 2010 SP1, the PSC-2000 was not among the choices.
As the support NOR documents indicate, you need LV version 8.5.1 or earlier to program the cFP-20xx devices family. Version 8.5.1 of LabVIEW does not work under Win7. You will need Windows Vista or something earlier like XP.
