Conversion of OVF using vCenter

I have a situation where I need to convert around 40-50 VMs in the OVF package. I think vCenter can export the OVF one at a time. Is there anyway that I can run parallel task? In any case, it's test environment. No worries about any performance problem.

It will use the resources of the host, so you should be good on that low-power desktop.  You can monitor the use of host resources and see that the processor, disk, and network are all quite high during the process.

  • Cannot import or export of OVFs using VCenter 6.0

I am unable import and export models of the OVF from/to an ESXi host v6.0 using vCenter. (This is the first time that I do this)

My attempts to import an OVF (tried two different ovfs with the same results) result in "connection to the remote resource has been lost. Error, check your network connection", followed by"the task was cancelled by the user.

Trying to export a piece of model with "could not connect to the remote resource: couldn't resolve host name", even once followed by "task cancelled by the user.

Since the VCenter Server I can NSlookup and ping to the host and the VM (ping when turned on) tell me that is not a DNS problem.

Attached is a vpkd log file that displays recording, what happens from the point of application to import to the point of failure.

Does anyone have an idea about what is happening here, or how I can be able to solve this problem.

PS. I am able to deploy an ovf directly to the host by using the vsphere client, but "eggs of data protection" seems to require through vCenter.

    Thank you.

I found the answer in a message displayed by Christer74.

The solution to my problem was to add the hostname of the host servers to the file hosts on my laptop (pc lot access vCenter to via the web client).

  • Windows 2008 R2 VM disk system increased substantially after moving from VM to ESXi host 5.1 to 5.5 ESXi host using vCenter Converter Standalone

    Hello:

I moved a Windows 2008 R2 VM from a 5.1 ESXi host to an ESXi host 5.5 using vCenter Converter Standalone.  The c: / drive system passed largely to where I now have to extend the volume.  Is this normal/expected behavior?  Perhaps the conversion/move creates temporary files I can delete?

    Thanks much for the ideas.

This is not the expected behavior.

Size of the disk is defined during the conversion and which will not increase by its own during conversion.

Now, you need to V2V, if you want to reduce the volume.

  • Manage an ESXi host using vCenter Server?

I understand it is possible and requires of the specific licenses for ESXi hosts, even if I find information on the VMWare site a bit confused as to what I need exactly. We have-

    1 License Server Standard 4 x vCenter

4 x vSphere Enterprise license 4 (who manage our ESX 4 hosts this site)

3 (and soon 4) remote sites that have the same server ESXi

I would like to be able to manage ESXi host using vCenter as well, is this possible with what we have? If this isn't the case, can someone direct me as to what it takes?

    Thank you

You need the standard by CPU socket for each host license to add to vCenter.

You can always create a separate environment and get the Essentials Bundle (up to 3 guests max) for $500:

    http://store.VMware.com/servlet/ControllerServlet?Action=displayPage&env=base&locale=en_US&siteid=VMware&ID=ProductDetailsPage&ProductID=126843700&RESID=psfyPAoBAlkAACQ2y-kAAAAX&rests=1277824287882

So you should have 2 vCenter servers.

  • Use vCenter custom during the VRO flow specification

My group and I are currently working on a compute cloud workflow where customers request a VM and it gets automatically configured using vRO/vRA.  We already have a specification in vCenter for Windows create the local administrator password and join the guest to the area.  We currently built in flow "Clone, with several network adapters and the Windows credential" for most working with hard-coded credentials.  What we have is either find a way to take the custom specification and enter the data that we need to place, or somehow apply the spec together personalised to the VM during the clone process.  I know means 2nd option, we need to go far from the built circulation to create our own, but if it's the only way then so be it.

    Any help would be appreciated,

    Thank you

    Hello

It is possible to get a vCenter's existing customization specification and pass it to the customizeVM_Task() method, not sure if there is a workflow of library of ready-to-use for this.

Check out these links for examples (they are "well aged" :-) but should still work in current versions):

Need help to start with the cloning by specification of customization

    Deploy the model with customization

    and http://www.vcoportal.de/2011/04/customize-a-virtual-machine/

    customizationSpec

I found it generally easier to use an object existing specification, and replacing just the settings I want to change a programming than to create a new suit from scratch. You might get some that mistakes a specified parameter was"not correct" back from vCenter, missing a few pieces of the specification.

Make sure, for example, the number of network adapters configured for the virtual computer is the number of network adapter settings in the book loads.

  • When I installed the web client vsphere using vcenter server iso, encounted an error that the vcenter server signon administrateu use name and password is invalid

VCenter server is version 5.1 and this server is a member of the working group.

    It comes to my administrator:

So, I used ISO server vcenter and installed web client pulg-in vsphere, it prompted:

I've used many ways, but failed.

so, I do not know how to solve, and I only know this administrator password.

You must provide credentials for the user admin@system-domain.

  • Using VCenter server NTP ok?

We have two hosts, each running 2 VMs Windows 2008. For security reasons, the hosts are on a separate VLAN management that does not have internet access. I advanced and configure NTP on the domain controller VM, for all virtual machines have the correct time. But I really wish that guests have time just too so that timestamps in the newspapers are relevant. I have install the VCenter server (Win2008) to act as an NTP server, and I tested it with my laptop. This works. I told guests to get their time from the VCenter server, because it is the only machine that accesses to the guest VLAN.

My question - is this a good practice? It seems that everyone gives their guests internet access, but it's just another door that you have to keep in my humble OPINION.

I forgot to add - the VCenter is the installer has a NTP client to get his time on the internet.

If you have setup the vCenter correctly in the NTP server (you have done - you have tested) I don't see a problem with that. Most people use either:

    • Public NTP servers, which can work very well, when managed / firewall
    • Internal NTP servers
    • Dedicated time devices

So, no, I don't see a problem here, and if it works for you, it is a good practice. It's also nice to see that you think safety (by not giving guests direct access to a public NTP server) in production environments (?).

  • Configuration for VM cloning sysprep when you use vCenter device

    Hello

According to the manual - and the ViewPlanner UI, for the layout section, we need to specify the location of the generated sysprep configuration.

How is this work if we use the vCenter 'Linux' system device.  I copied the binaries of Microsoft sysprep for the/etc/vmware-vpx/sysprep/xp to the appropriate location in the path of the device.  But, these are the Windows binaries and I can't run myself on the Linux-based system to build the configuration.

How can we on the subject in this case?  The layout makes UI * no * allow us to move forward if the sysprep is not specified.  Perhaps, there might be an option to move forward and make the command sysprep "manually" once clones are created?

    Thank you

    Vinod

I don't think that you must copy sysprep for the device files, it should already be there.

You must create a user of VC interface customization specification, not in the camera. In the user guide to see Planner, there are steps on how to do it. I also found another reference:

    http://pubs.VMware.com/vSphere-4-ESX-vCenter/index.jsp#deploy_vms_from_templates_and_clones/t_create_a_customization_specification_for_windows.html

  • Upgrade to vSphere client 5.1 U1 but using vCenter/ESXi 5.1 (not U1)

If you are using vSphere Client in your environment, it is recommended that you upgrade the vSphere Client to version 5.1 update 1.

My ESXi servers are still 5.1 (build 799733, some to the build 1021289), and my vCenter Server 5.1.0 build 947673. I should be able to install this patch for the client vSphere on my workstation without problem. It is recommended that VMware, right? That the client must be upgraded, regardless of the version of the host?

(I still don't think that the web client (again), so I want to continue to use the vSphere client, if and when I can)

the client is backward compatible, you should be fine

  • Conversation of OVF Workstation 8 running on ESX/ESXi

    Hello

If I have a virtual machine with hardware compatibility "6, 5-7.x virtual machine Workstation" (ESX marked also), and I create an OVF of this virtual machine.

This OVF can automatically be loaded in an ESX 3.x/ESXi 4.x server or VM (OVF) must be converted using the VMWare Standalone coverter?

    Best regards

    Anders L.

You should be able to download the virtual machine directly on your ESX Server without converting it first to an OVF (WS internally converts it into an OVF for you). You can simply open the virtual machine in WS, connect to your ESX Server and drag and drop the virtual machine on the ESX Server in the library. If you already have as an OVF, you can use ovftool.exe to download the VM to ESX.

  • How start/use vCenter Server?

Hi guys, first I want to apologize to post an easy question to most of you, but it seems that could not answer this question with most of our staff here. For starters, I installed a vCenter Server 4.0 on a Windows XP Pro 32 Bit. The installation goes smoothly using the default SQL database that provides VMware. However after you have installed the server vCenter, we could not find anywhere! We tried to find it in all programs & gt; & gt; VMware & gt; & gt; & lt; And nothing! & gt;! If I'm not mistaken there must be an executable file as the vSphere Client shortcut located in the same directory?

So far, we have concluded that the vCenter Server is installed in the computer as we gazed at the Add/Remove program list and found the vCenter Server installed! We also enabled vCenter Server Services but still nothing. We find the vCenter Server in the wrong direction or we should access the vCenter Server via a web browser? Any solutions would be appreciated.

    VMthinker wrote:

UH thanks for your reply but I'm abit still confuse as I just want to know how to start the vCenter Server?

The method is similar to the start of the vSphere client whereby you just double click the shortcut icon?

vCenter runs like a bouquet of services. The installation created these services, to 'autostart' and began to their. Because they are defined in the autostart, they become active whenever the system is booted.

I have already installed the server vCenter Server if the host of the vCenter server would be the same IP as the server ESXi?

No, of course not. vCenter runs on a separate host Windows. The vCenter server IP address must be unique within the subnet IP used as each host must have a unique IP address.

Even once, the vClient dowhnload, beginning as you start Word (or Openoffice), enter hostr of the vCenter server's NetBIOS name or its IP address as the destination to connect to and a combination of DOMAIN\username of a user who belongs to the vCenter server's local administrator group.
