Converter fails - balls included

Hey guys.

This is my third attempt to try to convert this machine.  Fails each time after about 2 hours.  I did a lot of these before so I was hoping I could get help through sorting logs.  I have included all the log as an attachment, but I think it's the meat of the failure:

Any help would be greatly appreciated as I am a bit under the gun to finish it before I go and my flight, it's tomorrow

I suppose you were resizing the destination devices and therefore trigger a clone to the file level?

If that were the case, then you would sometimes encounter questions like the one you just met.

When you perform a clone to the file level, Converter must be able to access (read) all the files on the filesystem in order for Converter power copy to destination volumes. If the user you are running converter that has not have 'read' permission on a certain file, then this will not copy and prevent the conversion of ending.

If you had a file like a virus or something missed, then it probably would fail to be copied in the same way, because normally the these dodgy files are not owned by the system administrator or a user who you are running converter as.

Check the permissions on this folder, you can see that runs the Converter user doesn't have read access to this file.

If the file is in fact "doubtful" or not a necessary file... then I would say that the best bet is to remove it and try again...

Or... do not trigger a clone of file level by resizing volumes...

If you do not resize volumes, a clone of block-level will be invoked which means that the converter just copy all the blocks of data instead of drilling down to each individual file. When you perform a clone of block-level, converter will not be concerned with each individual file permissions.

Hope that helps to clarify things for you.

    Try this.

    Reboot your vista computer.

Clone just the base os disk.

Then use robocopy to copy the remaining disks.

  • Converter fails when you import a sv2i Symantec BESR

I'm relatively new to VMware and have not had this problem before so I'd be curious to see if anyone has had experience of this type of error.

We are running ESXi4.0 and is trying to import a BESR sv2i, the import wizard finishes however the actual import fails with the following: -.

«The certificate of the remote host has these problems: the hostname used to connect does not match the name of the object on the host certificate a certificate chain of the host is not valid time a host string certificate comes from an untrusted root.»

The strange thing is that its worked before and stopped working.

I'm sure its something simple enough, but at this stage is something that I'm interested in solving fairly quickly

    Chris

ijnteresting - usually you can simply ignore this message

in any case - the most reliable way to create a virtual machine from a BESR backup is to use the LiveCD BESR against a newly created virtual machine.

Then patch the new virtual machine with the converter in a second time

The host or the guest OS (Windows 2008R2, Windows 7) ESXi 4.1 is supported in this version

    See: http://www.vmware.com/support/converter/doc/releasenotes_conv401.html

  • 'Reply to all' now fails to include "Bcc" emails

Updated to Thunderbird and now when I "reply all" to an e-mail with To, Cc and Bcc, Bcc emails the recipients are excluded from her 'reply to all '.

Previously, this worked well and allowed me to easily send weekly emails to the same group of people.

If something has changed in Thurderbird?
Is there an option I can change?

    Thank you

    Versions of Thunderbird:
    Previous: 3.0.8 (I think?)
    New: 31.2.0

Are you using an old email "Sent", which included the BCC addresses?
Select the email and click the 'reply to all '. Then delete the old content and replace them with new features?

I tested it on an old message sent who was bcc e-mail addresses and it always works for me.

    Try this:
Right click on the email and select "Edit as new message", does include the addresses of mail electronics bcc?

Another option that you may not have considered:
Usually, when you send an e-mail to a group, this group was created as a mailing list - under Group of contacts in your address book. If you click on writing, select mailing list and click the button 'Addto Bcc'.
At least you do not rely on an old message sent.
The previous content doesn't have to be removed.

  • 8 64-bit Windows: Java 7 > u51 failed installation (including Java 8)

    Hello

I'm fighting for several months trying to install any version of Java > 7u51. Until Java 8u25 (probably u20), installation is almost complete, but in the end, a message says "Setup error" no reason specified and Java is removed (before recognize the error, Java is in the list of installed programs). This produces both for 32 bit and 64 bit versions. Since Java 8u25 (probably less than 20 years but not tried), the message is 'installation error 1603' without any further reason. Otherwise, the behavior is the same.

I dug in almost all the suggestions, I found on the net, tried most of them including removing a patch from Windows Update in August, disable bitlocker (enabled on my laptop), running Microsoft Fixit utility and the suggestion can not install JRE 8u20. Nothing works and I'm stuck with the u51. In each attempt, I removed all the JRE and the JDK installed my system before attempting to install a new version, removed the left directories (facilities failures leave the directory \Programs or \Programs x 86).

I also found https://www.java.com/fr/download/help/error_1603.xml, which suggests that it was kown issues but all still explained, without any date (I don't know if it's old or new) and suggesting that there is a work around in preparation... Clarification would be welcome!

Thanks in advance for any help.

    Michel

FYI, problem fixed in Java 8 U31. No need to remove the old versions before, it will be managed properly by U31 Installer.

  • Ubuntu p2v - converter fails generic error

    Hello

I'm new to vmware and I'm trying to teach myself. I have ubuntu 11.10 running on a laptop alternative with converter linux 4.0.1 server. I have the Converter Standalone Client installed 4.0.1 on a windows 7. I have an ESXi 4.1.0 Server I'm a superadmin running on the cluster. I try to use the windows machine to convert machine ubuntu from the physical to the virtual. I'm going the through the wizard and everything seems fine. I click Start, it starts and then stops and disconnects with a very generic error ' error: cannot create the "ubuntu-test-machine" VM. "no other reason given.

Can someone point me in the right direction? Documentation is limited or my googling needs work because I'm having a hard time to find info on this. It's either outdated, or a bit vague for a beginner. Point me in the right direction and I am sure that I can understand it.

I appreciate all help. Screenshots attached.

You must connect to the * Windows * 5.0 server. You don't need to have it installed on the Linux source. After that you can choose to convert a live Linux and there you enter the name of host or IP address of the source. You must have active SSH and allow the roots of ssh remotely.

    1 starter use 3.0.3

2 convert with 4.0.1 then use gparted to set the flag to the correct partition boot, then "reconfigure the display machine" of the converter.

3 break the mirror and re - convert with 4.0.1
