Copy a texture in a layer mask... How?

This issue has been plaguing me for years and I thought I'd come and finally to remove once and for all that itch.

See this picture? http://fc05.deviantart.NET/FS42/f/2009/072/7/0/Grunge_Texture_by_skeelar_stock.jpg

Say I want to use it as on a specific layer opacity mask, or a specific group of layers. How can I do?

I mean, I know I can select with the wand and then add a layer mask in the form of what I chose, but transparency/alpha information will be deleted. Parts of the mask will be transparent or opaque.

Copy of a layer with gradients - as one of a worn paper texture - in a layer mask is something that I was not able to do. But I'm sure it's possible, because masks can do different levels of alpha very well (they would be quite useless if they do not have).

Select all, copy (or copy merged if you have several layers) in the file that you want to make a mask. Go to the image that you want to add to the mask. Select the layer you want to hide. Create a layer mask. Make sure that this mask is active in alt-clicking above. Dough.

  • How to subtract a grunge texture of a layer with several objects?

    Hi all

I've been struggling with this for hours. Would be very grateful for help.

I'm trying to apply a vintage texture to some vector illustrations.

In the screenshot, the work I created is in the layer of "work." I tried to simplify the work as much as possible by using the union, merge, expand, etc. I wanted to do a piece of work, but that seems so simple that I can get it.

When I try to perform a subtraction on the layer 'work' with the layer of 'texture', basically everything disappears.

I suspect that it does not work as expected because the layer of my work is always composed of several objects and not a unified object.

Vintage texture superimposed on the work looks good, but I need this subtraction in vector because I intend to get it printed on a shirt in one color, so I can't get the holes filled with color.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you!

How can I activate art in a single compound path?

First of all, to unite all paths with the first button in the Pathfinder palette. Then choose object > compound path > make (or press Command-8).

But don't do it this way. Use an opacity mask.

If I use the grunge texture as an opacity mask, do I still to transform the art into a single compound path first or I can do to a layer with several objects as if it were now?

No, you have not; You can keep a complete editibility of your design. You need to just design group firstly, why the opacity mask applies to all this.

Opacity masks are easier to use if you uncheck "Clip" after their creation. Then, all parts of the mask that is black will be transparent; each part that is white will be opaque, and the things which are shades of gray will be partially transparent. Just like in Photoshop. Right now, your grunge texture is white, so you would need to change to black after making your opacity mask.

  • How to create the layer mask using ellipse (circle) to show the face of the watch only?

just stuck - see how to get a job of layer mask using a brush, but can not get by with the help of an ellipse

    What I'm after is:

    * Start simple watch, with the face and band by photo

    * want to apply a layer, so the only thing I see the circular face of the watch (no tape etc.) and that the base is clear (alpha)

May I ask what are the instructions step by step to achieve this goal by using layer masks & ellipse tool?  (i.e. not having to manually paint around the dial)

    Here's the original image:

    1. Make a copy of the background and work on this copy of background layer.
    2. Use the elliptical selection tool, hold down the SHIFT key to draw a circular selection:
    3. Select use (on the menu bar)... Transform the selection to move the selection, and drag the sides of the selection at the edges of the dial:
    4. After you click the green check mark, use the selection... Inverse to select all items except the dial of the watch and press your delete key to remove such things:
    5. Your layers look like this:

Alternatively, if you want to use a mask, after step #3 hit the icon 'Mask' at the bottom of the Palette layers to create a mask layer automatically by using the selection:

  • Select, copy and paste layer masks

    Hello

I am a beginner when it comes to Photoshop, so my vocabulary can be a little off. I'll try my best to explain my situation. Let me know if I do not make sense, or if you need more details.

I have problems using a mask to create a selection that I can then use to paste a background image in an another PSD. I have isolated the part of the image that I want to select using a layer mask successfully, but when I try to copy/paste from an another PSD, the image appears as the "shadow" or the black silhouette that I used for the background of the original PSD image through the mask.

It is logical that this is happening because I select the mask which is only a black outline of the image I wanted to show through the second layer. But I saw on a tutorial that someone could "turn the mask in a selection that appears around the mask, so that you can then cut out the object and paste it into a different environment."

Here is the reference. It is the last two images in the tutorial:

    Using layers with Photoshop masks

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!!!

To load the mask as a selection:

Hold down the CTRL key and click on the mask, now, the selection will be charged.

Then click on the thumbnail of the layer (NOT on the mask) and copy or cut the layer for any other destination

  • How to add (or subtract) a selection to a layer mask existing?

If I already have a layer mask, I have a selection, and I want to add that selection to the mask layer (I want the layer mask to reveal more), how can I do?

The way I would do it now (it's too long) is Ctrl + click on the layer mask, add to the selection I want to modify it with, except that the selection, remove the mask layer and create a new layer of the saved selection mask.

I don't know there must be an easier way. I Googled it and found no answer.

    Thank you!

Create your first hidden layer (1)

Click on the mask and draw your second selection to be marked (2)

Edition > fill and fill it white (3)

    Deselect the selection

  • How can I get my layer mask to work properly

I have Photoshop CS6 64 bit I duplicated the layer and applied a Gaussian blur.  I created a layer mask and when I brush the layer it does not reveal the mask - how can I fix it? Layer mask

It is difficult to tell with what you see. But reveal is black and white is hide, with gray as the variance of the two. He would not reveal the mask, he would reveal the lower layers. I guess that what you mean, but I added it for new users of reading this thread.

  • Collage of texture color to black and white in a layer mask

    Hi all

First time poster long time lurker here.

I'm pasting a layer of color in a layer to texturize mask a shape I've done, I've created. Whenever I have the Option + click on the layer mask and then paste the texture, it sticks in black and white instead of color, see capture below (forgive the watermark) of the screen:

Am I missing something here? Thanks in advance!

If I understand correctly, layer masks are black, white or gray. Is that they hide or show parts of the layer according to the value of your gray of the mask. They are not in color.

  • How can I change the opacity of the layer mask?

    HI -.

I used a layer mask to hide portions of a picture.

Now I need to leave this hidden part of show at, say, 50% opacity (I'll have to experiment to find the optimal percentage.).

I'd like to screw up the layer mask and start on another.  Already, I thought I could duplicate the masked layer, remove the mask on the copy and set its opacity to 50% but now I have 2 layers.  I suspect that there is a way to do without a double layer.

Is it possible to adjust the opacity of the layer mask?

    TIA your entry

    Win7, Photoshop CS5

Have you tried to use the controls in the masks palette?

You control the opacity of the area exposed with the opacity of the layer and the density of the hidden box with the density on the masks palette slider.

I suppose you create a rectangle with the Rectangle tool, instead use the rectangle selection tool, m on the keyboard and fill with black, gray or white with your selected layer mask.

  • How to make a layer mask to type in CC?

I am after this Tutorial: Photoshop: professional cleaning Logo - YouTube and can not find a way to make the mask layer type thing that makes the background show through. I know that the tutorial is for CS6, but they should be the same, right?

The layer mask is the same for CS6 & CC. There are several ways to do so. But the video showed him using the masking of the text tool. It uses the quick mask to make the text - where the color pink. You can size your text by holding down the ctrl/cmd key to appear of the transformation handles. Once you are happy with the size of the text, click on the checkbox validate or ctrl/cmd + enter to change quick mask in a selection. The video then shows the selection used to create a mask on a layer. To invert the mask, and punch through the layer text to show the blue below, the opt/alt key has been pressed while the mask icon has been selected in the layers panel.
