Copy in a folder hidden in Win8.1 (64-bit)

I have an extra set of data which, for some unknown reason, needs to go in the ProgramData directory on the C: drive. As this is a hidden directory, Admin permission must copy into it (wise precaution). However, rather than ask permission than the OS simply refuses to perform the task of me don't give a sign of "" when I try to use the drag-and - drop to copy the file and grizzled on the paste option when I try to use the copy-and - paste.

My particular system sign me with my Microsoft account. Since then, I never remember guest to be implemented as specific administrator account I wonder if I have access to Admin work at all. If it turns out that I do now, how to deepen these functions?

I am running 8.1 Windows 64 bit on a system with an i5 processor and 4 GB of RAM (I expect to move to 8 GB this week assuming that everything works, but that will not affect this situation). The data in question are not the kind of file that affects the function of the software in question, so there is no reason to think that it would be unwise to add to the directory (and it's a clean file). The program in question is called hero Lab and is an assistance program of player for tabletop role-playing games (used to create characters) - the file is a set of pre-made characters where examples can be imported into the program, copied and then adjusted. It goes in ProgramData so that it is accessible in the menu of the program.

Hello

You will probably have to TAKE POSSESSION of the ProgramData folder...

As standard practice, what to do for my whole C; ------disc shortly after installing a new OS...

You can find this in the Security tab of the properties, click the advanced down...

You can click on EDIT and adds to permissions, but it is doubtful, if you get denied...

Windows 8 is blocking things that previous operating system was not... at least as much...

The fact that you are using a Microsoft Account and not a Local account means that you will get even more the message of type access denied...

    Hi Peter,

Thanks for posting your question in the Microsoft Community.

From your problem description, I understand that you are unable to transfer files from an external drive on another drive. Please let me know if this isn't the problem that you are experiencing.

Before troubleshooting, I have little information on the issue.

    1. Do you receive any error or display message?
    2. Did you recent hardware or modifications to the software on the computer before this problem?

Try the methods and then check after each method:

Method 1: Transfer files from a drive to the location on the desktop or a temporary folder and then try to transfer them to the destination disk.

Note: make sure the free space on the disk in the destination drive.

    Method 2: Run the Fixit:

    http://support.Microsoft.com/mats/windows_file_and_folder_diag/

Method 3: Disconnect your player safely, and restart the computer. And then try to transfer the files.

If the problem persists, post your reply with results and questions above. We are happy to help you further in the advanced troubleshooting steps!

    It will be useful.

  • Problems copying very large folder to an external drive.

The other day I tried to copy a far larger My Documents folder from the disk of Windows of a house system from XP to an external drive for backup.  He wouldn't let me.  I selected the folder of My Documents to copy, press Ctrl-C, then negotiated in the destination folder and press Ctrl + V.  What he did was simply created a shortcut to the folder destination.  However, I wanted the entire file to be copied.

So I tried to use the Windows menu to do the same.  Then I noticed that the destination folder has the grey order dough and people with reduced mobility, but the paste shortcut command is available.  Finally, I had to create the new folder to destination and you drag the subfolders on.

I tried to re - create the scenario on another computer with another external drive today.  I couldn't do it.  Could someone tell me under what circumstances this collage is not possible?  How can I overcome the problem outside of what I've done or through a DOS prompt?

I discovered copy Document my folder must copy in the actual file.  We can find the actual file in the my documents properties.

    That's the ANSWER.

  • Error copying file or folder

    Hello

I tried to copy and open an Excel file from a floppy disk 3,5 '' diskette in Windows XP Home Edition with Service Pack 3.
I get the following error message: "error copying file or folder: can not copy the MEASUREMENTS: cannot read the source file or disk.»

What is the problem with this Excel file? This file is corrupt?

A lot of help is appreciated.

    Thank you

    Sincerely,
    Egan

Yes, the file is probably corrupted. Diskettes - now an obsolete middle - are fragile and often unusable. You can try the disk in the computer of a friend to see if it is readable. If this is the case, copy the file on hard drive of the friend and from there to a USB key. If the disk is not readable in the friend's computer, throw it away. • How to copy a whole folder?

    Greetings,

I created a tru my network folder directly in the hub (did not use the distance function). Now I am trying to download a copy of the entire folder on a remote computer by using remote access Media Hub (ciscomediahub.com).

I'm having a very frustrating time trying to download the entire folder. Since I have a lot of files, I can't be able to download/copy the entire folder without having to copy each file individually using the function remotely (via ciscomediahub.com).

Can someone help me with this please?

    Thank you!

    Hello

Maybe its a problem flash adobe why you can't download large files/folders using the mediabrowser. Check out this site that addresses that the limitations of 32-bit flash adobe. As an alternative, I think you can use FTP to transfer big files/folders, just use Windows Explorer when you use FTP so that you can drag & drop or copy & paste the files/folders.

    I hope this helps.

  • Why is the 'Documents and Settings' folder hidden and inaccessible?

I used PC backup for backing up my XP files.  When I restore the files on my Windows 7 computer, I tried to bring it back to the "C:\Users\name\Desktop\test".  There is now a "Documents and Settings" folder hidden and inaccessible in my "C:\Users\name\Desktop\test".  How can I view/delete this folder?

Short answer:  Because there isn't actually.  Please do not try to access it, you will help break your operating system if you try, and you will lose the ability to run several programs or worse.

    Why?  The tale:
The Documents and Settings folder does not really exist in Windows 7.  This is only to fool the bad programs by redirecting to the right place (the Users folder).  Apparently he also deceived you.  It is not a real issue, do not try to access it.

Or if you prefer, here's the long Version:
First of all, the Documents and Settings folder came into existence in Windows 2000.  In order to shorten the path name (there is a limit to how many long letters we) as well as to create other languages of the operating system for use throughout the world, this folder has been renamed a few users in 2006 with the release of Windows Server and Windows Vista.
Programs built the right way, that is not the real name or spelling (or language) of the book by fine user path, because they use the variable %UserProfile%.  However, many programs have been built the wrong way.  They are absolutely dependent on the existence of a folder called "Documents and Settings", spelled in English.  This program will crash if they do not find the file they want.  So to keep these plant program, Microsoft has created a record of false (called a junction Point) that redirects these programs on the folder of the user.  So if a program think he saved a file in c:\documents and settings\joe\desktop- the file will actually be saved to c:\users\joe\desktop.  The program never knows that he cheated.
What you need to do:  Go to your Folder Options, tell him to Hide protected operating system files, and then use your computer normally.
  • Error copying file or folder: cannot read the source file or disk.

My problem occurs when you try to copy on the same computer I am on (or to a remote drive).  I get one of these messages in the dialog "error copying file or folder.

    box:

Impossible to copy 'Filename': data error (cyclic redundancy check).
Impossible to copy 'Filename': cannot read the source file or disk.

    Hey Norton victim,

    (a) what is your operating system?
    (b) what program file you are not able to copy?

As the files are copied, Windows verifies that the data that has been copied are the same as the source files. The cyclic redundancy check (CRC) error occurs when the copied data does not match the original.

This could be down to a mistake of the DVD, the disc goes wrong and has failed to 'read' the file properly or the file was placed on a bad sector on your hard drive. (Could be just down to a scratch or some marks on the dvd, maybe clean it if necessary and try again).

I would run a check disk (CHKDSK) against the drive to rule that, although lacking - you have another dvd player to try the disc again? If so, try the dvd in another drive, or even a completely different machine to try to pin-point the problem.

At the command prompt, type the following command and press ENTER:

    Chkdsk /r

Note: If bad sectors are detected when running check disk utility and attempt recovery of bad sectors is verified during the verification of the drive for errors, data in the bad sector can be lost as they tried to recover bad sectors.
