  My fault for typing. Refresh deletes everything and all restore points so there is no way to go back. There is a lot of attention. Once the restore points are gone, they are gone.  It is from my computer when I press Refresh:

  (1) your files and customization settings will not be changed

  (2) all settings will be reset to their default values

  (3) apps in the store will be kept

  (4) (Yes the Apps) apps installed from disk or Web sites will be deleted

  (5) a list of all the deleted applications will be in a folder on your desktop

  You should read when you try something new, that may not be much clearer.   Sorry for the late post. I don't try to back up or restore. I just want to create a restore point.

  Netherless, I followed the advice on this thread http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en/itprovistasecurity/thread/37160397-349e-4aa2-992e-1ffe58b5e51e and renamed the SR file in %windir%\System32\Tasks\Microsoft\Windows\SystemRestore to SR.sav and can create restore points successfully. So I create a restore point, a new SR file is created adjacent to the old (SR.sav)

  However, is it to let the SR.sav file remains in the folder or just delete it? Is it possible that renaming some files to offset it later?

I created a restore point at the beginning (as a point of reference).  After a day of installation of software, I discovered my original restore point was gone and tried to create a second restore point. I received a message that I could not create a restore point, until I restart Windows. I rebooted and got the same message. I've even turned off for a few minutes and got the same message. Restore functionality is enabled default 12% Windows memory allocated to restore to all readers.

  Never took off. I did a repair from the window of the original CD. It fixes the problem of the restoration of the system.

  Do not know what measures allowing you to create restore point.

  Here is the step by step:

  Start button > in the search box, type backup and Restore Center > press the Enter key > left column > click on create a Restore Point or change settings > wait > in the window system properties, put a stop to the OS (c :)) (System) > click the button create near the bottom right > the rest should be self-explanatory.)

  If you have any software backup as totalrecovery pro 9 or norton ghost, they prevent you from creating a manual restore point.  I have 9 pro full recovery and everything I do is to disable the Recovery Manager when I want to create a manual restore point.  There is no problem with system restore points created they work very well it is the manual of who are the problem.

  I have two HP printers (Laserjet 1536dnf & Officejet 6500) installed on a PC running Win7 64-bit.  Until January, they worked very well after Win7 updates (restore point created automatically).  Since then, any time a system restore point is created I lose access to these two printers.  By clicking on "Devices and Printers" opens the window and the progress bar goes to infinity with nothing found and the process must be closed with the Task Manager.  Printers are not accessible, but no error message appears.  Any reference to a printer causes this particular process hang and must be closed with the Task Manager.

  Both printers are wired Ethernet to Cisco E3000 router and are set up to be shared in the same home group.  Oddly, a second PC in Win7 that is connected via Ethernet to the same router, using the same two printers can create the system restore points without any impact on these two printers.  The main difference between the two is that the PC works an AMD based system, while the affected uses a system based on Intel.

  Printer is restored when I restore the system since early January restore point.  Any later restore point using simply reproduces the problem. I have searched the FAQ and forum but can find no cure.

  Follow the suggestions below for a possible solution:

  Method 1: You can check the status of the Printer Spooler service after you have created a restore point system, if the Printer Spooler service is not started and then start the service and check:

  A print spooler is software that temporarily stores the disk printing hard or in memory until the printer is ready to print. If you were expecting an abnormally long time to print a document, or if you see an error message about the print spooler, Spooler subsystem or spooler resources, you might need to change and then restart the print spooler service on your computer.

  To do this, we recommend that you save your work and restart the computer to restart the print spooler service. If you do not want to restart the computer, try these steps.

  To change or restart the print spooler service, you must be logged on as administrator to perform these steps:

  a. click Startand then click Control Panel.

  b. double-click Administrative Toolsand then click Services.

  c. double-click the Printer Spooler service, and then change the startup type to Automatic. This option sets the spooler service starts automatically when you restart the computer.

  My HP Pavilion DV6 is not creating Automatic restore points.  Laptop is ~ 3 months and is using Windows 7.   In my previous post, I had trouble with the restore points disappear.  This problem has been fixed when I corrected a number of bad sectors on my hard drive. Now, I can manually create restore points and they remain intact.  Manual of several points have been in place for a few weeks.  However, I don't get the automatic restore points.  I checked the Task Scheduler, it has listed the restoration of the system, the Task Scheduler Service is started and set to automatic.  I put triggers restore to create a restore point 02:00 every day and start the system.  Whenever I have check the properties of SR within the Task Scheduler window, it lists today and said that "the operation completed successfully (0x0).  However, no restore point is created.  I can't find any errors listed in the event where the viewer associated with the restoration of the system, kind of most prospects, it seems that the Restore Points should be created, but there is no list but the manual I did myself. I've set the conditions of restoration as follows: 1) start the task only if the computer is idle for 10 minutes. (2) wait for idle for 10 minutes. (3) wake the computer to run the task.  System Restore has 15% of disk space for storing points, so there is plenty of room.  Interestingly, on the properties of SR tab listed 'History', says ' story (disabled), so there is nothing listed there.»

  I must be missing something - any ideas?

  Last updated: the scenario and the procedure of johngalt I linked above works like a charm.  I'm daily Restore Points just like I want.  In the cases where I decide I want to only a couple of a week, I can easily change the new task at the request I created, so I don't plan to post further.   Question is resolved :-)  Thanks for the help!

  • Version of XP, including the Service Pack
  • Complete without paraphrase error message
  • Name and version of the application antivirus, the expiry of the current subscription, and whether the system has already connected to the Internet without an antivirus with current subscription system.
  • Names of all other security software applications
  • If you have already run a "registry cleaner", "tune up system", "system speed up', or a similar utility if so, which.
  • What happened to your system just before became you unable to create restore points.

• Is it possible to create a XP restore point which can be accessed by Windows 7?

  I'm about to install Windows 7 on my laptop, but if I don't, I'll go back to XP. Yet is there a way to create a restore point while my laptop has XP on it, then install Windows 7 and then, if I want to go back to XP, just click this restore point? I don't think so because I'm going to use a system recovery disk to put Windows 7 on it, and I think that the drive will wipe the drive. It's just that it was so hard to get Windows XP on my laptop in the first place, and I don't want to go through this hassle again.

  You will not be able to go back to XP, once you install Windows 7.  If you want the ability to do what you describe, then you will need to create an 'image' - style backup of your entire drive of Windows XP system you could use later to rewrite your drive hard everything back to where it was.  Two popular image-style backup programs are Norton Ghostand Acronis True Image .

  The computer is a laptop upscale just out of warranty (of course), running 32 bit Vista Ultimate SP2.  I can't manually create a restore point and the last created automatically was over 6 months ago.  The specific error is: "the creation of a shadow copy has expired.  Try this operation again. »

  I've read the previous post and answer a question similar (7-8 January 2010) and tried his recommendations 1 and 3, without success.  I wasn't number 2 because he was is not clear to me.  My computer experience has included the replacement of memory, disks, video cards, etc. and a large number of configuration of the software, but I'm not comfortable to change sensitive PC parameters, unless the procedure is clear.

  After two years of trying everything, I finally fixed my system restore using this WalterBerndlpost: check if you have a program called "XFast USB" usually installed with the provider of the card mother ASRock MoBo.

  When you try to create a restore point, it hangs on "creating a restore point," followed by the error message: "the restore point could not be created for the following reasons: the creation of a shadow copy has expired.". Try this operation again. (0 x 81000101) Please try again. »

  I googled and came across many others who had solved the problem of 0 x 81000101 by uninstalling XFAST USB. I was living the problem with ASRock Xfast USB version 3.0.28.

  I then uninstalled Xfast USB ASRock (xfastusb) and rebooted. This solves the problem of 0 x 81000101.

  NOTE: I tried first to upgrade to ASRock Xfast USB version 3.0.38, but once again received the error message. Remove on the Start Menu does nothing, given that a pilot that settles in your system. Uninstalling removes this driver

  Another example of these programs 'boost' is 'USB 3.0 push"ASUS, but if you don't have that kind of advice, but have any kind of"USB turbo-propellers"installed, you should always delete. They don't get along well with the Volume Shadow Copy service.
