Creating new folders in Windows 7.

I've used Windows XP and there was a "New folder" option  I bought a new computer with Windows 7 operating system and can not find the same choice.

Maybe I can't see the forest through the trees, but sombody out there should be able to help me.  Thanks in advance.

On the context menu, there should be a New - folder, shortcut,
etc.
If you don't see it, please see this...

  • I cannot create new folders in Windows 7

It seems that I've lost the ability to create new folders using Windows 7.  Here are the details of my system:

    Computer: Dell Latitude E6330
    Processor: Intel Core i7 - 3520M
    System: 32 bit OS
    OS: Windows 7 Professional

Here's what I've tried so far:
    (1) tried to make a right click on the desktop, without any available menu options (Failed)
    2) tried to create a new folder in Windows Explorer using the new folder (Failed)
    3) connected to the computer by using the admin account and repeat 1 and 2 (failure)
    (4) technical note followed by support, checked the values of registry HKEY and restarted maching (Failed-no effect)
    (4) hard disk access on network from another computer on Windows 7 (64 bit professional) and
attempted to create folders by using the user account and administrator (success-Iwas able to create folders)

This seems a problem isolated to the recent updates of the Windows 7 32-bit system.  Are there indications as to what to do?

  • cannot create new folders on windows 7

It started happening a while back and I thought nothing of it, but now it's a problem. Whenever I try to right click on my desktop right click window won't open. It just loads for a while and then it crashes with a "Internet Explorer has stopped working". I don't even use IE and it becomes a big problem because it crasehd click on my pc when I can. Anyone know anything about this?

It is the answer to not be able to create new folders. If it helps doesnl with IE crashing, make a separate thread on this in the forum IE.

  • Cannot creat new folders in Windows 7 Home Premium

I am running Windows 7 Home Premium. For some time, I was not able to create new folders. The only option under New's case, among other things, that I never use. I was using Dell DataSafe Online and after several months of backups without a hitch, he began to make files and folders disappear whenever he did a backup, although I could find them with a search. When I tried to create a new folder with the same name that the old man he would find the old one, ask if I wanted to merge them, and another would disappear as well. Over time, the option create a folder disappeared also.

    I tried the suggestions here:

    http://answers.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows/Forum/Windows_7-files/unable-to-create-a-new-folder-in-Windows-7/3c5951c8-e3b0-4E5B-99A5-744f842fe558

    No solution.

    Can anyone help!

When you do research, you see the path to the folder? Can drag you the folder to another location, such as desktop or My Documents?

Make sure that the folder is not hidden. Right-click on it and select Properties.

    In addition, enable hidden files.

In Windows Explorer, Win + E key, tools | Folder options | View. Show Hidden files, folders, or drives.

    Hello

The question you posted would be better suited for COMPUTING public Pro on TechNet. I would recommend posting your query in the TechNet Forums to get help:
  • Why I can't create new folders in Windows Explorer? Worked until recently.

Something changed and I don't know what.  Click on new and only Briefcase appears on the menu.  New folder is no longer an option, and clicking on the button new folder in the menu bar does nothing.

    Hi Frank,.

To resolve this problem for a long time with Windows 7, I recommend a program called FileMenu Tools. You can download the portable freeware from here: http://www.softpedia.com/get/PORTABLE-SOFTWARE/System/System-Enhancements/FileMenu-Tools-Portable.shtml .

After having downloaded and installed the program, you will notice that, by default, each option is checked. I would be much more selective on this subject, otherwise your context menu will be a full page long! When the main window opens, you will see a list on the right side of all the elements that can be added to the context menu. Start weeding through the list and every one to take away, you don't need the United Nationsby checking the box.

Once you have completed your selection (de-selections) make sure that you click the green check mark in the row of icons at the top of the left window of the interface to 'Apply' of your choice. The program can do much more, but that answers your specific question. I am told that the program has a good help file, so try here if you are interested.

Let me know if this solves the problem for you.

    Kind regards

    BearPup

  • Cannot create new folders

After you perform a system restore, I find that I have more freedom to create new folders or something new when I right-click. Anyone have any ideas?

    Hi JakStraw,

    ·         You get the error message?

    Follow these methods.

  • Cannot create new folders from anywhere!

the ability to create new folders is lost. Help, please. I'm in big trouble. Some sites said I have to recreate the program stuff. Another suggested first, I try what follows, but can not find props everywhere, even in research. Also, do a right click on search does not work.

Use the (SFC.exe) System File Checker tool to determine which file is causing the problem and then replace the file. To do this, follow these steps:

    1. Open an elevated command prompt. To do this, click Start, click principally made programs, Accessories, right-click guest, and then click run as administrator. If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type the password, or click allow.
    2. At the command prompt, type the following command and press ENTER:
      sfc/scannow

The sfc/scannow command analyzes all protected system files and replaces incorrect versions with appropriate Microsoft versions.

  • I can not create new folders. And then I discovered that I have more problems.

I can not create new folders.   So, I tried to create a restore point, and who do not also have. He said that the restoration of the system did not completely & system files and settings were not changed.  Details: System Restore could not access a file.  It's probably because an antivirus program is running.  So I have disabled all programs and I still got the same message when I tried to use system restore.  I tried the SFC scan.  The scan SFC says he found no violation of integrity.  I could not create a new user, because it says that the user profile service does not log on.  Failed to load the user profile.  So I am totally confused. I recently followed the instructions on your site, to create a new Normal template as mine has been altered.  That worked very well, but all of a sudden, no new files cannot be created.

  • Cannot create more new folders in Windows 7

Well this problem starts just today after the installation and uninstallation of some free Antivirus software I try for the first time. Before that, I was about to install a new burning program and I decided to create a manual restore first, point in case something went wrong. After you install Microsoft Security Essentials, I'm not too sure if that caused the problem, but that's when I noticed that I couldn't create more new folders when I click the button new folder in Explorer or when I right click and select new, there was no new folder option. I have a feeling this could very likely be a registry problem, but I have almost no idea how to manually re-enable it in the registry. There were a few solutions lying around and showing some tips on changing the context Menu, but whenever I tried to change the registry, I get an error saying that the changes may not be saved. I even download the ShellEX utility but noted the option new folder that if she was clearly not or just was not working as it should. I'll try to use the system restore to reload the manual restore point I had created, which I was when I was pretty sure that everythng was working fine. I hope that that would solve my problem, because there is not more updates update critical for me to install just might solve the problem. I hope that someone who has an alternative solution to what I do can provide details in response to this. Your help would be very appreciated.

    Hi Sop_the_Otaku,

-Where exactly you are trying to create a new folder? It's somewhere on the C drive or on the desktop?

However, you can follow the steps below and let us know the result.

    Step 1

Try using the command prompt and try to create a new folder and check if you can create a.

To do this, follow the steps below:

    1. click on start.

    2. in the start search box type CMD and press to enter.

3 type cd... publicity and press ENTER, repeat the cd... and press ENTER until you have c:

    4. now, type the following at the command prompt:mkdir folder_name
Here, folder_name is the name of desired folder

    5. check if the folder is created in the drive C

    Step 2

Access the link below and follow the steps suggested by Linda YanonMonday, May 24, 2010 08:38 and check if it helps you to solve the problem.

    http://social.technet.Microsoft.com/forums/en/w7itprogeneral/thread/97de8a2a-12f2-4381-A409-a78f4ae551cf

    Step 3

If the steps above do not perform a restore of the system on your computer and check to see if it helps you create a new folder

To restore the operating system to an earlier point in time, follow these steps:

    1. Click Start, type system restore in the search box, and then click System Restore in the list programs.

If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type your password or click on continue.

    2. in the System Restore dialog box, click on choose another restore point and then click Next.

    3. in the list of restore points, click a restore point created before you started having the problem, and then click Next.

    4. click on finish.

The computer restarts and system files and settings are back to the State they were in when the restore point was created.

Access the link below to see the system restore:

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows7/what-is-system-restore

I hope this helps. Let us know the results.
