Problem creating new folders on my PC

When I try to save a new document, my PC will not let me create a new folder to place it in... In fact, I can't create new folders, either within an existing folder structure, or on the desktop. It is a new problem for my computer. I can save these documents into existing folders or on the desktop, but cannot create a new folder on the desktop or in an existing file structure. Any suggestions? Thanks, Wayne

Hi Wayne,

1. how exactly you are trying to create a new folder?
2. do you have a code error message when you try to create a new folder?
3. don't you make changes to the computer before the show?
4. are you logged as administrator?

Method 1:
Attempt to create the folder in clean boot mode:

http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/929135
Note: See "How to reset the computer to start as usual after a clean boot troubleshooting"
under more information to prepare the computer to start as usual after a repair.

Method 2:
Auditor of file system (CFS) scan to fix all of the corrupted system files. To do this, follow the steps mentioned in the link below:

http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/929833

Method 3:
If the methods above do not solve the problem, then follow the steps mentioned by Linda Yan dated Monday, May 24, 2010 08:38, the link given below.

  • I cannot create new folders in Windows 7

It seems that I've lost the ability to create new folders using Windows 7.  Here are the details of my system:

    Computer: Dell Latitude E6330
    Processor: Intel Core i7 - 3520M
    System: 32 bit OS
    OS: Windows 7 Professional

Here's what I've tried so far:
    (1) tried to make a right click on the desktop, without any available menu options (Failed)
    2) tried to create a new folder in Windows Explorer using the new folder (Failed)
    3) connected to the computer by using the admin account and repeat 1 and 2 (failure)
    (4) technical note followed by support, checked the values of registry HKEY and restarted maching (Failed-no effect)
    (4) hard disk access on network from another computer on Windows 7 (64 bit professional) and
attempted to create folders by using the user account and administrator (success-Iwas able to create folders)

This seems a problem isolated to the recent updates of the Windows 7 32-bit system.  Are there indications as to what to do?

  • Cannot create new folders from anywhere!

the ability to create new folders is lost. Help, please. I'm in big trouble. Some sites said I have to recreate the program stuff. Another suggested first, I try what follows, but can not find props everywhere, even in research. Also, do a right click on search does not work.

Use the (SFC.exe) System File Checker tool to determine which file is causing the problem and then replace the file. To do this, follow these steps:

    1. Open an elevated command prompt. To do this, click Start, click principally made programs, Accessories, right-click guest, and then click run as administrator. If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type the password, or click allow.
    2. At the command prompt, type the following command and press ENTER:
      sfc/scannow

The sfc/scannow command analyzes all protected system files and replaces incorrect versions with appropriate Microsoft versions.

    Hello

    1. what happens when you search for "cmd" in the start menu to search?

    2. what happens when you create a new folder? Do you get any error messages?

    3. what happens when you tried to create a new folder in safe mode?

    4. are you aware of changes to the computer before the show?

Some of the registry keys could have damaged or needs to be repaired. It can also occur if there is no third-party program is blocking approval. We will analyze and identify the cause of the problem.

    Method 1: Safe Mode

Start your computer in safe mode and check the number.

To start your computer in safe mode

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows7/start-your-computer-in-safe-mode

    Method 2:

Try using the command prompt and try to create a new folder and check if you can create a.

To do this, follow the steps below:

    a. Click Start.

b in the start search box type CMD and press to enter.

    c. type cd... publicity and press ENTER, repeat the cd... and press ENTER until you have c:

    d. now, type the following at the command prompt:mkdir folder_name
Here, folder_name is the name of desired folder

    e. check if the folder is created in the drive C

    Method 3:

If you are able to open CMD method 2, you can try to scan SFC and check. See the steps. :

  • Cannot creat new folders in Windows 7 Home Premium

I am running Windows 7 Home Premium. For some time, I was not able to create new folders. The only option under New's case, among other things, that I never use. I was using Dell DataSafe Online and after several months of backups without a hitch, he began to make files and folders disappear whenever he did a backup, although I could find them with a search. When I tried to create a new folder with the same name that the old man he would find the old one, ask if I wanted to merge them, and another would disappear as well. Over time, the option create a folder disappeared also.

    I tried the suggestions here:

    http://answers.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows/Forum/Windows_7-files/unable-to-create-a-new-folder-in-Windows-7/3c5951c8-e3b0-4E5B-99A5-744f842fe558

    No solution.

    Can anyone help!

When you do research, you see the path to the folder? Can drag you the folder to another location, such as desktop or My Documents?

Make sure that the folder is not hidden. Right-click on it and select Properties.

    In addition, enable hidden files.

In Windows Explorer, Win + E key, tools | Folder options | View. Show Hidden files, folders, or drives.

Running registered OEM Edition Vista Home Premium on a Dell Inspiron 531 AthlonII 4400 + 2.3 GHz, 4 X 1 024 MB 800 MHz Crucial memory, Asus M2N61-AX micro-ATX Mobo, OS on 80 GB Seagate HDD, storage of files on 500 GB Seagate HDD... Has worked perfectly for over a year.

Installed the free version of "PC Wizard" who has downloaded a bunch of Add-ons that I didn't, so I uninstalled them.  Two days later, when downloading a file, could not create a new folder when you click "New folder" in the top left corner to-do bar (arrange, etc.).  Then tried to create a new folder by right-clicking on the desktop, on the C: drive & drive F: (storage) using Windows Explorer.  No errors, no "new folder" created.  Also impossible to rename folders.  Action seems to work, but when checking the file later, the same name.

PC works perfectly also.  Tried to restore to the point of previous restoration, without success.  Played "dskcheck" on drive C: with both options checked, no problems found, clean disc.

Of course, I would appreciate the help.  Thank you.
