  ran-a (one) AdAware, McAfee + TrendMicro Housecall virus
  software

  -i then portable mental hard crashed twice during startup

  -ran (one by one) disc cleaning + disk defragmentation

  -restarted

  -reinstalled Firefox 15.0.1 (aka old version) (checked and I saw it worked)

  -restarted

  It took 7 hours to fix (I was playing games on another console half the time). as is the everything works fine, once again. a few bookmarks are still missing (the weekend every week/fortnight I backup bookmarks).
