CS5 InD crashing on Add/Insert page (s)

Hello

Doc opened/saved in CS5 CS4. Since I started working with this document in CS5, it has been crashing almost every time I try to add pages using the page layout-> Pages-> Add page, CMD + SHIFT + P, set page - > Pages - > Insert pages, or the button _.

I tried to export to .idml and re-opening and resaving in CS5, but it did not help.

I tried with all the combinations of "Pages of Document allows Shuffle" and "Allow selected spread to Shuffle" checked/unchecked. If I try to insert Pages and you try to insert between 1 and 9, with neither 'allow' selected, it adds all the pages in a double. And then crashes. With the two "allows" selected, it goes right down. With just "Selected to allow" or just "help Document" checked, it breaks down, and when I open InD again the doc is removed from the recently opened list.

If I try to insert 10 pages + I get an error: "propagation cannot have more than 10 pages" - which makes me think I can have selected something inadvertently or there is a new default in CS5 associated with the new doc sizes capacity? I have master for 11 x 8.5 and 8.5 x 11 pages in the document.

When I try it just add Page/shift-CMD-P, or the button, sometimes added a pages, sometimes it crashes. Normally, if it does not crash, I can add up to 6 or so pages, then it crashes maybe 6 or twice before resuming the process. I can't find any other problems with the document, just that.

Does anyone know what whether I might miss? Any help would be much appreciated!

Thank you

Hankuri

The .idml file will open in CS4?

I don't know if this will help (this sounds like corruption to document, but it could be a bad font), but if you open the .idml file in CS4 you can export into .inx, open and re-export to .idml and open in CS5. I have more confidence in .inx file cleanup I do in .idml.

  • Problem with CS5 to crash during the insertion or deletion of page

    I have a legacy file (teaching manual) which was created in CS2 and has been edited and updated over the past two years with no problems. The file is about 360 pages, with about 30 illustrations, table of contents and index larger size. During the updating of the material today, I went back to insert a page because the text to overflow and InDesign crashed. This happens whenever I try to insert or delete a single page. I can insert a single page on the pages i to viii, but when I try to insert a page in InDesign Sec2:1 early crashes. I can open and close the file, and edit anywhere without any problem.

    If I insert 2 pages at a time, it works fine and I can run the text on the page. But when I delete the extra page that I don't need, it crashes. It doesn't seem to be specific to any specific master page in the file. I tried several times to export to an IDML file, reopen and save it in an InDesign file, but the same problem occurs.

    The same thing with the file on the same verson InDesign which is on my laptop. This problem does not occur with other InDesign files that I've created in the past. I need help. Thank you!

    I just thought some about this, so I'm glad you popped up again.

    Seems to me you have two choices, go back to the previous version which works and re-do much editing or try to fix later. If you want to go back, open the file and check the bey in the history of file holding the CTRL key while you choose about InDesign from the menu help. You will see the full backup history in the lower left corner of the dialog box. I check for the latest version, that it has been saved, then open the file in this version and export into .inx (in CS4 or earlier) or .idml .idml for CS5 or later, and then open the .idml in CS5 and save as a new .indd and proceed.

    The existing file, you can divide and conquer stuff, but like I said, I thought instead, and in your shoes I would probably ignore the first step and try to export to text marked for each story, and then build a new doc by placing the tagged text. If it seems to be OK, place the images again and go ahead.

    Whatever it is, I think you have some heavy lifting.

  • CS5 crashes when inserting pages.

    I have a 64 page document.

    In the Pages palette, I need to insert 4 pages after page 3.  Whenever I have insert pages, it hangs and quits the program.

    I find Indesign CS5 very unstable.  Surprising.

    It is certainly the document, and whatever it is don't like CS5 is on Master C. I removed this master page, and I can insert pages without problem.

    Here, I could tell what might be the problem on this basic form, but I can't. I don't see that this started as a CS3 doc and it doesn't seem to be problems with the converted files this time. You could try to export .inx or .idml since the CS4 version before the conversion, and then open and convert it into CS5.

  • Having ID CS5 add/remove pages of conditional text

    I have a file of 100 pages with a simple structure ID:

    • block a text per page
    • threading in a story frame is always on the next page
    • each of the 8 chapters is its own history

    I recently started to add conditional text. All text is "unconditional" or "Gold" or "diamond". The length of a chapter/story of the "Diamond" status can run up to 2 pages more 'Gold '.

    I think I've seen in a training video that it is possible to have InDesign CS5, add pages at the end of a stoy, if the text in the history is longer than the number of pages... and remove empty at the end of a stoy pages when empty pages. And this works automatically when you turn on and turn off conditional text, even in the middle of the story (i.e. several pages before the end of the thread).

    Basically, I want to turn off text diamond, have all reflow and white pages disappear until I have create the PDF Gold. Then I stop the Golden text (and turn on the text of diamond) and have everything reflow and necessary pages appear before as I create the PDF of diamond. Reinvest it works well, but the automatic add/remove pages does not occur.

    If this is indeed possible, how do I set that up? I tried a few settings but not him have yet to get to work.

    Thank you

    John

  • How can I add different page headers on odd and even pages?

    Hello.

    I use Indesign CS5.5 to create a printed book. I would like to add a page for every even page header and a different page header to every odd page. And have the ability to hide the header on some pages. Someone knows how to do this?

    Thanking you.

    You must create a master page, spread to the side of the pages. If you apply this all of your pages, items that you apply to the master will then be applied to each of your pages. If you want to include dynamic elements, (e.g. Page number) you can do going on Type > insert special character > markers > current Page number.

    All the pages you do not want the header on, you cannot apply the master page.

    You have placed your beam to insert at the end of your text on page 13 and then apply Insert menu: Page Break? In the v5.6.2, Pages I just add a new page to a section of four pages to this approach.

  • Insert page numbers

    I just started using Microsoft Works Word processor. Why a feature for a long time in Microsoft Word (insert page numbers) does not work?

    Microsoft Works supports page numbers: it is in the header or the footer.  You don't mention what version you have. Header, footer, Page #: Click viewon the Menu bar at the top of the screen. Click on headers and footers to. Type the text that you want in the header or the footer in the appropriate window. (You can add page numbers to your document by typing& p in the header or the footer windows. After the & p or other text that you type in these windows to left-, Center-, or justify right page number or text, type & l,& c, or & r . (You can also use& f for the file name of your printed document automatically in the header or the footer). Here is an article on how to start the page numbering on page 2 rather than on page 1 in severalhttp://support.microsoft.com/kb/76167versions, but the instructions you also lead to where you need to add page numbers.  Microsoft Word is a more sophisticated than Microsoft Works program and has many more features (and cost more).

    Assuming that you do not want to pay for Microsoft Word or any of the Office Suites, I recommend to download and install the FREE OpenOfficewww.openoffice.org , which includes many of the most popular Microsoft Office products (Finally, programs that do the same things, but not really Microsoft) which a writer who is a comprehensive word processing program and can do almost everything that Microsoft Word can do (and more Microsoft Works can do) - including the numbering of the pages.  This is a great set of programs and again, they are FREE, so you have nothing to lose by trying of their and see if it will do the work for you.  I am sure that you prefer them on Microsoft Works and some people even they prefer on Microsoft Office (even if I personally prefer Office - probaby because I'm used to it as much as anything else).

    I hope this helps.

    Good luck!

  • Make the fields to a custom read-only after clickingsubmit button page to insert page

    Hi all

    I have a custom insert page. When the user enters and click on submit, I want to do all the other fields read-only except 'create another button of registration '.

    Also, I have a lov in my custom page, when the user selects invalid values, error messages will be displayed. My problem is same after displaying the error message, the user has the option to navigate to the order of the day and enter data and submit. How to prevent the user to navigate to the order of the day if the value entered is not valid.

    Please suggest your ideas.

    Option 1: Add a controller to the dynamic region and ad whereclause LOV to limit the LOV query, so that it will not allow the user to select the 100.

    Option 2: The LOV (if required), just remove the value of the element LOV LOV action, based on the State.

    I hope this helps.

  • How can I add two pages just before page 7 of the book, which will change all the page numbers that follow?

    Hello

    I'm close to finishing a book of 257 pages.  All pages are numbered automatically down, and I spent a few weeks carefully constructed an Index at the end of the book that has all the right page numbers listed for everything.  So whatever I do, I can't change my page numbers.

    But at this late stage, I would like to add a few epigraphs (quotations) in four or five places (I just got this idea today, I'm afraid).

    Is it possible to add a few pages here and there (I will add two pages at a time, I know, or he'll hit all the pages that follow, half of them designed to be left, and half designed to be on the right - off) that are not numbered, and that will not affect the numbering of the following pages?

    Kind regards

    Malcolm

    It is not Automatic way. If you are ready to have unnumbered pages which are not included in the number of pages, you can, for each page the inserted value

    (1) select the first page after the pages will be added

    (2) in the menu pages palette, use the Options Section and number and the page number of started with the value what it is already. In this way, adding pages will not affect the numbering.

    (3) in order to avoid conflicts with the new pages page number, set their numbering on something else as 1,2,3. (as i, ii, iii, for example)

    For later use, you can configure your index with the indexing of InDesign tools, if a false problem, as you would have been able to add the pages and then re - automatically generate a correct index.

  • Why inserted pages go to end of e-book when you export?

    Hello

    I just started to learn InDesign, and I've been banging my head for days with that. It's probably something stupid, but I can't understand how to solve. And oddly enough I have not found someone else with the same problem.

    I use InDesign CC on Windows 7.

    This is the workflow that I used:

    1 Add a MS Word by dragging and placing it on an InDesign document.

    2. application of styles and al.

    3. Insert a new page, on page 5 of the book (where I added later a table of contents), using the layout-> Pages-> insert Pages...

    Export the ebook; The inserted page how the last page ends in the ebook.

    I also tried to create the page using the Pages panel.

    Any ideas?

    Thank you!

    Marcos

    If you create an EPUB file for the first time, there is a lot to learn. You must be consistent on the application of character, paragraph and object styles. A recomposable EPUB requires a continuous stream of linked in your text. Text boxes and other elements must be anchored to the text. If this isn't the case, you must use the Articles Panel to set the order of pages.

    To learn about it, I highly recommend Anne-Marie Concepcion videos on creating EPUB from InDesign to Lynda.com. You can get a free subscription for the first week.

  • Using JavaScript to insert Pages

    First of all, thanks to you all for helping me try to get out.

    Please be patient with me as I am new to the script and a complete Newbie which includes only the basics.

    OK, so I'm working on a side project to where I work. The goal is to develop a script that will allow users to run and automatically add 4 pages at a time. These pages will be in spread (facing pages).

    We (society) print books of a sort, and due to printing in printers spreads, this is how all our models are configured. Is not necessarily how it should be done, or how I would setup models, but that is how it is and I have to work with what I have.

    For this reason, I can't use the building in functionality that is already in InDesign for Smart Text Reflow, but that's essentially what I have set out to achieve.

    I was looking around the Internet for some time and found a few different scripts that are already out there that work to a certain degree, but not exactly how I need to make them work.

    Below, I'll show what I want to achieve:

    Here's an example of how we have our model in place.

    Screen shot 2014-05-13 at 15.02.27.pngScreen shot 2014-05-13 at 15.02.35.png

    All scripts, I found and tried to adapt to what I seem to do the following:

    Screen shot 2014-05-13 at 15.02.55.png

    All they'll do is add a page at a time and in the wrong place (this should be on the left, NOT the right).

    Screen shot 2014-05-13 at 15.03.20.pngScreen shot 2014-05-13 at 15.03.24.png

    When adding the second page (via the interface of the menu or change any script I think) the second page is added as follows:

    Screen shot 2014-05-13 at 15.03.36.pngScreen shot 2014-05-13 at 15.03.39.png

    Now, I already know that it is because of how we have our configuration of models, but I can't change that!

    However, if the following functions is used via the menu of the interface, then the results work perfectly:

    Screen shot 2014-05-13 at 15.03.52.png

    Screen shot 2014-05-13 at 15.04.09.png

    Screen shot 2014-05-13 at 15.04.28.pngScreen shot 2014-05-13 at 15.04.18.png

    It is this feature that I would like to reproduce but shaped script:

    Layout > insert > Pages...

    4 pages

    At the end of the Document.

    If someone could help to shed light on this, it would be extremely beneficial.

    Scripts I did experiment with current examples are:

    myDocument = app.activeDocument
    myDocument.spreads.item(1).allowPageShuffle = true;
    var page=myDocument.spreads.item(1).pages.item(1);
    var pages= myDocument.pages.add(LocationOptions.atEnd);
    var pages= myDocument.pages.add(LocationOptions.atEnd);
    myDocument.spreads.item(1).allowPageShuffle = false;

    Once again, thank you in advance.

    Sam

    Typical, shortly after this announcement I really understand it.

    For those interested, this seems to work correctly:

    myDocument = app.activeDocument

    var page=myDocument.spreads.item(0).pages.item(0);
    var pages= myDocument.spreads.add(LocationOptions.atEnd);

  • Insert pages

    Greetings,

    When you use the function insert an Acrobat existing PDF will always come to the location of the inserted pages. Is it possible to do so when you insert pages that adobe will not jump to the inserted pages.

    For example add us pages at the end of a document based on content that is at the origin. When you insert the correct information, you will need to continuously scroll the previous keep location.

    Go to file > properties, and then click the initial view tab, where you can set the page number that the PDF opens.

  • Insert page on the spread

    I want to insert a page after page 2 of 2 spread

    I put the Document property

    with (myDocument.documentPreferences)

    {

    pagesRegard = false;

    allowPageShuffle = false;

    }

    and add the new page after page 2 as:

    var page = myDocument.pages.item (1);

    var page = myDocument.pages.add(1634104421,page); 1634104421 for the next DAY

    But page insertion on further spread.

    How to insert page on same distributed?

    Thank you

    You add a page after the following, because you target pages. To add to a spread, you must target the spread itself. Just as in the interface, before doing so, you must set "Allow to spread to Shuffle" to fake:

    myDocument.spreads.item (1) .allowPageShuffle = false;

    var page = myDocument.spreads.item (1).pages.item (1);

    var pages = myDocument.pages.add (LocationOptions.AFTER, page);
