• How to change VMware Server 2 in VMware Workstation?

  Hello. I installed VMware Server 2.0.2 in Windows 7 host. Then, I created a virtual machine and install Windows Server 2003 as a guest operating system. I installed some application programs in the Windows Server 2003 operating system, and has done a lot of work into them. Everything works successfully for some time.

  Because VMware Server 2 does not support Windows 7 as host operating system. Strange thing can happen anytime. While I work in Guest OS Win2K3, the connection is suddenly lost. VMware Server 2 home page can not be displayed anymore. The virtual machine and the Win2K3 comments is no longer accessible.

  I have to install VMware Workstation that supports Windows 7 as host operating system and Windows Server 2003 as a guest operating system. So, I have 2 questions:

  First of all, if I uninstall VMware Server 2 on Windows 7, does it affect the virtual machine that supports the Windows Server 2003 OS?  Everything, including the OS Winn2K3 and its application programs, will be lost?

  Second, if I install VMware Workstation in Windows 7, can the Guest OS Windows Server 2003 be transferred from VMware Server 2 VMware Workstation?

  People can help answer these 2 questions?

  You can uninstall vmware server without any problems and you will not lose your vm.

  Anyway just for more security you can make a backup of the virtual machine before you uninstall vmware server 2. Just backup files of the virtual machine. Then you can uninstall the server and install workstation

  After the workstation installation, you would be able to run the virtual machine in workstation, simply add the virtual machine to the workstation inventory, pointing to the .vmx files for the virtual machine.

  In any case if you can not run the virtual machine, you can use vmware converter to perform the conversion between server and workstation. It is a good tool and it does not hurt to learn how to use it

• Plan to change VMWare ESXi, but have a few questions

  Use VMWare server, but I'm cosnsidering passage to VMWare ESXi. I have a few simple newbie questions and apologize in advance if they are stupid. I tried myself, but have no spare hardware to do and I would like to clarify this before buying a new compatible server ESXi.

  1. read the communities that I discovered that ESXi does not support the USB storage device. It takes in charge USB devices or it does not support USB? USB ports will work in guest OS?

  2. I also read that it is possible to install and start ESXi on a USB? How is this possible if the USB storage devices are not supported? OK, the BIOS is set to boot from the flash drive, ESXi loads with a RAMDISK, but then does not recognize the device it was loading during the boot process?

  3 is supported media such as sound, 3D graphics cards?

  4 serial ports taken care of?

  1 ESXi does not support the device of USB storage for local data warehouses.  I don't remember the extent to which the guest OSes on ESXi.  I read that USB is only supported network based USB hubs.

  6 ESXi does not support SATA in local storage.  It is possible however to use SATA RAID cards that emulate SCSI (Adaptec 210 X for example).

  ESXi is essentially ESX without the full service console.  Both share the same features and functionality as eachother.  ESXi is smaller, hardened operating system that is not running under Red Hat.

  We have just upgraded all hosts in ESXi Release 5.1.  Virtual machines are updated with the latest VMware tools & upgraded to the latest Version of hardware.

  We find that there is no option for us to change VMware Tools option (like: with ESX Server time synchronization).  We wonder if we can change these settings and how.

  Ante todo decir este are a Québec fallo he revisado y las responses in different los don't post han well para help me, good os.

  El caso are that I have 2 servers DELL PowerEdge R420 fisicos identicos, cada uno con ellos 3 VMs sober instaladas VMware Workstation 9. The first virtual machine are an image of Kerio control, a second virtual machine to Windows Server 2012 con dominio Controladora, is the third VM con WS2012're donde quiero crear el cluster con dominio usuario. ESTOS servidores knew vez esta una cabina data via iSCSI connected.

  Add tambien when performed the tests of validation led Cluster, todo lo tengo OK. El caso are so creo el cluster con el Nodo 1 y 2 Nodo (sugar Québec cada uno fisica Máquina distinta ellos y bajo mismo Dominio) me error UN da has the el crear hora cluster. In cambio, if creo el Cluster con este nodos if any to crea, pero el fallo viene a hora of connect UN nodo adicional (ya sea o 1 Nodo Nodo 2). Este fallo viene cuando el nodo TR checks are completely funcional in el Cluster, is is "pensando" y da fallo por tiempo sold.

  He revisado problemas similar y he visto that el antivirus can be una causa e caso no lo're are only aun no he wont any AV... • How to prevent the VMware Tools reset the size of my text on 4 k display

  I use 12 Workstation on a Dell XPS 15 9550 with a native resolution of 3840 x 2160 (4 k).  I was able to move on virtual machines running Win 7 from another system where the virtual machines were running at a resolution of 1920 x 1080.  These virtual machines are now running at 1920 x 1080 on the Dell.  (I did it by using the VM settings > display and set a max and running full screen resolution).  The problem is that the text and icons are displayed at 150% the size. I can use the Win 7 Desktop > resolution to 100% and everything is the way I need it, but when I do this change, VMware Tools appears saying that I need to log out and back in.  If I do this the text/icons are at 150%.

  How can I get VMware Tools to stop the reset of this size from 100% to 150%?

  • 1 x EMC Clariion CX3 - 10 c iSCSI SAN with 4 TB Raw (15 x 268,4 GB SAS)

  • Currently hosts 12 Windows Server 2 k 3 VM

  We our currently buying the blades since the acquisition of the fair market value was less than $200. I am currently exploring the following options to present to the owners of the company for more how it will go to the best situation of DR

  1. Stay with current equipment

  • Upgrade to vSphere 4.1

  • Updated all the VMS to Windows Server 2 K 8 R2

  • Acquisition by SAN and blades

  • Re - up the support of at least one year, return to upgrade next year

  2. Stay with blades, buy new SAN with additional capacity

They are among partners VMware major/main companies in the northeastern part of the United States, in order to get a quality of their own work (regardless of what you get)... I would also tender hand to GreenPagesto see if they could work with you... I don't know if they cover PA, or Phi, but worth a phone/email to find out... Both companies are major players in the VMware partner space, so I don't think you could go wrong anyway... I worked with people of GreenPages on some projects, a couple of different companies and have always had good experiences with the people of their engineers and sales...

  Most quality partner rep will work with his engineers on the solutions until they present it to you. I know that GP for this, and I do not know what IC is also...

  I see so many different ways to do this IDK what way to go with him. The new G6 servers will not have the attachments to the current SAN MSA so I want to be able to vmotion just more I'll also have to do a storage vmotion. With our 4 current servers we can take one down for maint. without impact on performance so that could add a way to make things too.

  You need to keep your current online VMware license server until the updates are complete. Once it is done, and all hosts are on ESX 4 u1 and pulled into the new vCenter configuration 4 u1, you will be able to retire from this server. I'd keep around (offline) just for awhile to CYA.

  Once you have the first host with v4 u1 on it and attached to the fibre and iSCSI LUN, you can create the new vCenter Server VM and VM DB and start the process of vMotion. It's probably a good idea to put the two hosts (new) in the configuration immediately so that you can use those to run the virtual machine because they are vMotioned/migrated and updated day/updated to run on the new configuration.

  I would also use profiles on host computers to facilitate reproduce it exactly the same configuration on each of them. If there isn't an urgent need with only a handful of servers, it's something to keep in mind. It will make changing settings the same on all hosts later much easier if you are familiar with the process.

  For licenses on new hosts, you will have one for the vcenter Server, and another that covers the hosts. Here, no more license server you just enter the key and apply it to the hosts.

  I feel that once you get in it, it will be less confusing/bad you may think it will be.

  If you are more comfortable getting confirmation of the process before you start, reaching out to VMware (your sales representative is a good start) or a VMware partner in your area (one of the big boys, as a partner if possible). We used one at my last job, and I was able to bounce things off of them. Of course, it helped them already, and some paid on time left in the thread that we could use. Or suite at one of the moments where they were spot on.
