Dead by Satellite A500-1pj after involuntary Bios Update

Hello world

A friend of mine bought a new PC laptop toshiba Satellite A500-1pj a month ago. Windows 7 pro 64-bit pre-installed.
Also preinstalled: support software toshiba who - correctly - configured search automatically and installs updates and critical fixes.

Last Sunday this wonderful software recommended an update 'critical' to my friend - she's no expert but a user experienced who can make the difference between an update of the bios (and avoid this!) and a security patch, she agreed to download and install what she believed to be a security update.

Sure, she gave permission to an update of the bios being installed. During the process of updating the machine froze completely. She waited for three hours and then pulled the plug. Guess what: the machine is now completely gone. Does not display without fan, simply nothing.

Hotline support Toshiba told him that his cell two weeks old is not under warranty because this warranty does not cover software 'problems and the Bios updates are software upgrades.

The company repair says a repair will very probably equal to buy a new laptop so here we are...

My questions:

(1) the laptop is a Satellite A500-1pj (PSAR9E-01M00QGR) fitted to a phoenix UEFI bios (bios toshiba/phoenix, 1.1.26 update tool is pretty radical - no warning at all! he tried to update me my computer dell laptop, lucky!).
I found some posts on older machines that can be reflashed using a usb disk, hot spare bios back and a combination of keys (Fn + B or Fn + F...). is it possible to do this with a UEFI bios too?

(2) anyone out there have the same problem?

(3) any chance of toshiba help us with that issue and prevent others from making the same mistake to understand at least a warning in their bios updates?

Thanks for your help!

Tony

> The company repair says a repair will very probably equal to buy a new laptop so here we are...
I doubt that
I think that the module ROM BIOS was flashed incorrectly (don't know why) and therefore you can not start the laptop.
This can happen for different reasons, maybe that the update process was interrupted due to a process running in the background, etc.

In order to solve this problem, the ROM module must be flashed again using a special crisis disk BIOS... that's all.

The update of the BIOS is always a sensitive procedure but if everything was done correctly, then update the BIOS must successfully complete.

I found this very interesting and useful to Toshiba and HowTo doc correctly updated the BIOS!

I would recommend contacting a local ASP (authorized service partner Toshiba) in your country. Guys will help you!

    HI Yves,

Unfortunately, if the BIOS update procedure does not work (or fill), then it is likely that the BIOS in the CMOS chip had been corrupt and without it, you will not be able to boot your laptop to fix the problem.

It will be necessary to bring (or send) your laptop to a repairer authorized to have reflashed BIOS.

    Kind regards

    Hello

I tried to update the BIOS on my Toshiba Satellite A210. I downloaded an update from the official site of Toshiba, and then I did everything according to the instructions.
I've updated the BIOS under Windows.
Update at the end, a massage "updated successfully" appeared and I just need turn on the computer again.
So I did, and there was a problem.

When I turn on my computer now, it shows me a blue window with a password. I don't know password.
Maybe you know how to disable the password or you know some passwords for Toshiba which corresponding?

Toshiba doesn t have a sort of universal password, and unfortunately, no one here can help you with this problem.
I just hope that you have downloaded the good BIOS upgrade for your laptop model.

The password can be removed by the Toshiba service provider. They can do it in 15 minutes.
Sorry, but buddy I'm afraid there is nothing you can do about it.

  • Satellite A500-138 60 fps instead of 99 fps after the BIOS update.

    Hello!

Before I have a little problem with my fan, but I do it with the BIOS update. His work!

Now, I have a little problem of different...
I am a player of counter-strike and before the BIOS update I have 99.9 FPS now, I have about 60... Who is wrong?

    Its make me crazy...

    Hello

Seems the CPU and GPU don t run full implementation after the BIOS update.
Any performance CPU/GPU leads to lower the heat dissipation and this means that the cooling module does not need to execute quickly and very often.

Check to see if you can change an option is the BIOS.
You can also try to update a graphics driver and could control Windows 7 power management.
Power management settings 7 victory could affect CPU and GPU performance to save battery power and reduce the heat dissipation.

  • Satellite L300-1 has 3 - after the BIOS update, I get a BSOD

I have a Satellite L300 1A 3 MODEL PSLB8E. I decided to update the version of the BIOS, thinking that he can resolve my issue of ethernet controller.

But after the update, my laptop goes on infinite blue screen of death. How can I recover from this injury?

    Hello

Did you choose the good BIOS update for your model? Was it for Satellite L300 PSLB8E?

    What code you get BSOD?

After the BIOS update you must always load the default settings. Maybe a bad BIOS setting is causing this BSOD.

  • Can I activate the NVidia optimus on Satellite A500-1pj technology

    Hello

I bought the Satellite A500-1pj 2 weeks ago now, I've heard about the nvidia optimus technology,
Is it possible to activate the graphics card on my phone to use this feature?

    Thank you

    Hello

I had to goolge get more information on this NVidia optimus technology
+ NVIDIA Optimus technology automatically optimizes your battery life while retaining the graphics performance exceptional you wait, if you're watching a movie, surf the web or play a 3D game +.

I found this page from nVidia
    http://www.nvidia.com/object/optimus_technology.html

It seems that it is a new feature and it of not available for all nVidia chips
AFAIK all laptops which would support such technology optimus would be marked with the label of NVidia optimus technology.

So he just says you can't enable this hardware feature must support this order to use this

  • Satellite A500-1pj - no image on LCD TV via HDMI

    Hello world

got a new Satellite A500-1pj and tried to connect it via HDMI with my Toshiba LCD TV 42XV635. Incredible, but it does not work.

What is happening is that the TV detects the laptop and the screen goes black but no office or something else appears. If I go to extended or clone I got it on the screen of the laptop, but not yet on the TV. Already tried three different cables, disabled/enabled almost every setting on TV, I tried new drivers, different resolutions,...

The only thing that works is to reduce the resolution to 1024 x 768, but even here the image is not that good (blue pixels across everything on dvd). So far, no response from the Toshiba support. Anyone here who has an idea?

    Thank you!

    Hi abra_xas,

It s interesting but I can't find any information on your operating system, but it would be interesting to know because I m sure that it s just a software or driver problem. I also have Satellite A500 and often connect to my LCD TV, but I never had any problems with it.

Usually if you connect two devices, use the FN + F5 key combination to switch between monitors.

Is also important that you use a high quality HDMI cable and connect both devices to first before you switch them on (TV should be switched on first and select the right channel).

  • Satellite A300 - after the BIOS update I can not install two OS

    Hello everyone:

I bought a laptop Toshiba Satellite A300-247 with Windows Vista Home Premium.

Then I formatted it and divided the hard (320 GB) into 6 partitions and installed Windows Vista and Windows XP on drive C to drive D after having changed the SATA controller mode in the BIOS for compatibility. The computer worked well with 2 operating systems. However, when I updated the BIOS to version 1.9, two operating systems stop working and one of them can be installed: XP can be installed when SATA controller mode is placed on compatibility and Vista can be installed only when the SATA is changed to AHCI.

Is there is no explanation of what past? And can I install operating systems 2 together again?

    Thank you

    Hello

First of all, I doubt that this has something to do with the BIOS update. I think that after the BIOS update HARD drive mode has been changed from AHCI to compatibility and therefore the OS didn't start.

Anyway, in compatibility mode you can install Vista and XP without the SATA drivers. This should t be a problem.

But do you know the difference between compatibility and AHCI? AHCI mode is faster and therefore I would recommend this mode.
Like you said Vista you can already install in AHCI mode and for XP, you need Intel Storage Manager. This package includes the SATA drivers you need and here is a step by step guide to use these drivers:
    http://APS2.toshiba-tro.de/KB0/HTD9401AN0000R01.htm

Last but not least, you can install 2 OS. You can do what you want! ;)

  • Satellite P200 - after the BIOS update I can't start the machine

Before updating the password is 0000.
After when I try to set the password incorrect password start apeeras

The BIOS password can only be removed from an authorized service provider. So I think that there is no other way.

  • Tecra 8000 does not start after the BIOS update

From one day to the other does not start my Tecra 8000 (400 MHz/256 MB BIOS 9.30 for years). After start-up, the disc starts to turn, but the screen including the backlight remains completely black, without red logo TOSHIBA BIOS is not accessible.

I got a new mainboard on stock, so I replaced it, and it worked. Unfortunately now my WLAN card now did not work properly. I tried several settings of the BIOS with no results, so I decided to do an update of the BIOS from 7.50 to 9: 30. After the upgrade, I get the message "ROM WRITE successful, utility completed. LEADER BIOS: Tecra8000 v 9,30 ". Because what either kept silent, I pressed the power button to restart and heard a long and many short beeps (endless). I could interrupt what pressing the powerbutton for 5s.

After turning on again I have the same problem as described in the first line :-( I can't get into the BIOS, but I can again update (with pressed F12). Once again these beeps.

What to do with these beeps after average BIOS update? I replaced the MoBo connector LED with pension. Processor, memory, keyboard and HD has remained the same. So, before I start disassembling the machine, please notify, your help is very appreciated.

    Hello Joachim

I'm not a technician and don t know what the beeps but I am afraid that the BIOS chip is damaged. Because of this, the unit is completely dead. Sorry, but I really don t believe you can do anything. Maybe the new motherboard again :(

  • Satellite A500 emit after bios update 1.50

    Hey guys and girls,

I have some problems after the update of the bios. Before the update my laptop has been the scene of much smoother and everything was fine and dandy until Tempro told me to update my bios. The problem is that after the update, the temperature seems to be considerably higher as usual when I play the game (I am a gamer) and also all the games I play seems to be much slower than before (lower, gal frame rate). Before the update I could play Dragon Age Origins with 1366 x 768 with 4 x anti-aliasing and the only one that I could get the same performance with the graphic parameter above is on 800 x 600. Now, it is certainly a big problem for someone who is a graphics junkie when it comes to games.

    * What do you think I should do? *

    A. downgrade my bios for when I bought everything first? (I don't know what version of bios is if anyone knows the stock bios?)
    B. perform HARD drive recovery?
    C. clean install of Windows 7 64-bit?

    My laptop computer spec:

    Model name: Satellite A500
    Part number: PSAR3E-00N005EN
    Serial number: X9206227K
OS version: Windows 7 64-bit Home Premium edition
    BIOS version: 1.50
    Physical memory: 4096MB RAM
Graphics card: NVIDIA Geforce GT 230 M

Any help with this is greatly appreciated.

    Hi mate

I think you had a version of BIOS 1.30
In older versions of the BIOS update are not available on the Toshiba driver download page. Only ASP (partner) has access to these early BIOS versions

In any case, I found an interesting thread:

Not sure if it could be useful but check

PS; the graphics card driver update is a good idea it too check

  • Satellite A500 - it gets stuck one second after the BIOS update

I knew I shouldn't update BIOS unless I have problems. A message came Toshiba Bulletin Board and I was stupid enough to trust him and I have updated my BIOS. The update has been successful, my computer seems to work very well.

Except, now when I try to watch a movie, I downloaded every 10 seconds or if it gets stuck for a second and then plays normally and it happens when I play music on itunes. Because I didn't have this problem before, I'm not accusing the update. Is there a way I can go back or how can I return to normal?

Oh God, what have I done? :(

You can try to update a sound/display drivers on the [page driver Toshiba | http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com/innovation/download_drivers_bios.jsp] Bios update should not cause a problem like yours, but who knows... (You can also try to load the default settings in the Bios)
Updated version of itunes and try how movies on VLC and Kmplayer
