Defragmentation system problem

Separated from this thread.

These answers do not help somehow. What is the 'system' & why must he be defragmented if my readers are 0% fragmented?

I click on defrag for system & nothing happens except that I thought that my system is 8% fragmented. Why?

Quite honestly I would ignore it, but if you do not want to push a little further you can.  If you open disk management (just type "disk" in your Start menu/screen to find), you should see this drive system (which can be a real player, or just more likely partition).

From here you can right click and assign a drive letter for a minute so you can explore the disc. Remove the drive letter when you are finished.

But if that's what I think it is, these volumes being fragmented is usually because they gave no movable system on them, so they will always show as fragmented and since they are read-only will not same the defragmentation process.  It won't slow down your system, however, I am sure of that because he has not assigned a letter, it's guaranteed essentially it is not used for daily operations.

  • After you run the XP Disk Defragmenter, system crashes or runs very slowly

When I run Disk Defragmenter after its finished to start my computer hangs up and slow real execution.

Also, some installed start programs acting weird. like taking a lot of time to load up or when I use them that they cling

    or stop responding all together.

To work the way they are supposed to do, I have to uninstall and then reinstall. Why is this happening?

I thought that the operation of Disk Defragmenter only deleted of fragmented files that are no longer in use, or not is more necessary.

So nobody knows what is happening here?

    Thank you.

    Kittycast of Kittyville http://justin.tv/marksr

I agree with Gerry Cornel, this stemmed not Disk Defragmenter.

There is nothing wrong with the Disk Defragmenter - it works well for what it was intended: temporary, occasional use. If anything, it gets abused and forced to do jobs he was supposed to never do, like defragmentation huge disks that get heavy use and therefore are strongly defragmented, etc..

Here is a routine that I've compiled over the years to troubleshoot issues with Disk Defragmenter that proved very useful if you want to continue with this problem:

There are several reasons why the built-in Defragmenter may not work correctly:

    0. it is malware on the system. Solution: Run an anti-virus control and also a spyware check.

    1. the disk is too full (you need at least 15% free space, sometimes 20%). Solution: Delete files unnecessary and programs until you have more than 20% free space.

    2. the disc is damaged and must be repaired. Solution:

    a. open "My computer" and right-click on the drive that you want to disable frag.
    b. Select 'Properties' and click on 'tools '.
    c. Select "Check now" to check the drive for errors.
    d. Select the two options and click on 'start '.

(This can take time and can restart the PC so that it can do the check at boot time. Be patient and let it complete).

    3. Disk Defragmenter can be altered, needing a system restore to fix it. Solution:

    a. start - all programs - Accessories - System Tools - System Restore (click here to open);
    b. Select a good restore point before you start having problems with Disk Defragmenter.
    c. start the restore process and let an end (descriptive name of something restore operation as "Repair Defrag").

    4. There are other programs that run the Defragmenter interruption integrated. Solution:
    a. close all running programs.
    b. If you think there may be some programs that run in the background.
    c. press Ctrl + Alt + Delete and
    d. Select "start Task Manager".
    e. under the 'Applications' tab, you will find a list of all running applications - you can close these by selecting "end task."

    5. If still no luck, try disabling the screen saver when you run Disk Defrag (you should very well leave the system only when running the built-in defragmentation utility).

    6. If still no go, try to run the defragmenter in Mode without failure. If she runs, something interferes with her and stalking interference may not be easy. Note: Some versions of Windows 7 disables the ability to run the Defragmenter built-in in safe mode. If disabled, it will say when you try to start it in safe mode.

7 Disk Defragmenter may no longer be on the system or is damaged while it needs a re - install. Solution: Reinstall the built-in function.

There are several ways to re - install the built-in Defragmenter:

    A:
    a. open the menu 'start '.
    b. type '% Windir%\Inf' in the 'Search' box and press 'Enter '.
    c. in the window that opens, find the file named "dfrg.inf.
    d. right-click on "dfrg.inf" and "install".

    B:
    a. go into "start > run" on your computer.
    b. Type "rundll32.exe setupapi, InstallHinfSection DefaultInstall 132% windir%\inf\dfrg.inf" and press "Enter."
    3. click 'OK' to make the program automatically reinstall itself.

    C:
    a. go to start > all programs > Accessories > right click on command prompt > select 'run as administrator '.
    b. at the command prompt, type "regsvr32 dfrgsnap.dll" and press "enter."
    c. type 'regsvr32 dfrgui.dll' and press 'Enter '. This will reinstall the missing Defragmenter files.

    8. most of the problems will be solved by #6 above, but if not, and if your windows installation is otherwise working well, you should consider to download a free trial of a Defrag tool commercial rather than drastic measures to restore the functionality built-s. Third-party programs are more robust and many work in the background, so you can use your PC during defragmentation.

Most third party programs offer a free, fully functional trial (better ones are for 30 days). Install one of them allows you to disable built-in and if you decide to uninstall, removal will replace the built-in function, repaired several times in the process: it's worth a try...

Here's a recent Top 10 comments side-by-side comparison of the best available defragmentation programs:

    http://Disk-Defragmenter-software-review.TopTenReviews.com/

The gold medal is the only defrag program that also prevents the fragmentation (see comment).

Why is it good to prevent fragmentation?

Basically, it significantly increases life expectancy of your hard drive (especially since you don't have to leave the system on all night - a much 'greener' agricultural practice), not to mention it also increases the performance of the system.

Find out what the review has to say on this.

    Good luck to you!

PS: If still no go, repair may involve editing the registry or repair installation of windows and possibly re - install windows itself. These aren't simple solutions. If so, indicate if they can be provided.

  • Qosmio X 500 - 11U restarts when games & cooling system problem message

    Hello

I have a Qosmio X 500 - 11U PQX33E, bought in the summer 2010. Since 2012 (1 month after the warranty ended) he started to do restarts without reason, but I gave much attention to it, as it happened rarely. However, after 1 year things are worse and I ended up having a cell phone game that I used only as a PC Web browser. From time to time, I blew the fans to clean... Finally, I decided to fix it.

I gave it to a technician, he cleaned, replace the dough thermal CPU - GPU and replaced one of the fans who did not work properly.

Still nothing has changed. I tested it again (by running windows experience rating), and it crashed as before.

I made the big decision to go back to factory settings and I made a clear installation of all components of the system (including the stuff of all the toshiba).

Restart again for the note windows. ... (the same thing happens when I run any high graphics games)

I have flashed the bios to v2.90

Restart again for the note windows. (the same thing happens when I run any high graphics games)

In addition to the above, because I did the clean install of the system, I started to get the message ' WARNING: a problem with the cooling probe happened... return it for service.

I can hear the fan is working but when I run the diagnostic tool for Toshiba, the CPU usage is at 50% and the fan to 0%, even in use high power (yes I changed both power settings)

Any help would be much appreciated, because I really feel VERY bad after paying 2500 EUROs for a gaming computer I can not operate for its intended use.

    Thanks in advance

However when I try to run all 3D graphics applications (and some flash feature facebook games) it blocks (auto-off)

The laptop turns off automatically in order to avoid the damage hardware parts... which can occur due to a higher internal temperature...

You mention that the fans do not work

(use of fan is at 0% because my fans are now connected to the USB ports

I suppose that the temperature rises and the laptop turns off because cooling fan use in 0%

To me, it looks like a typical hardware malfunction and from my point of few service technician must verify and fix it... here in the forum, we can only talk and discuss possible solutions but finally the hardware problems should be fixed by engineers of the service...

    Hello

    > Without power, it is sometimes possible to start the computer.

This means that you are not able to turn on the laptop if the AC adapter is plugged?
What exactly happens if you try to turn on the unit with the battery power only?

To be honest, this sounds really like hardware related issue but its really hard to talk about possible malfunction without checking the detailed material.

If you have this problem with adapter only, I suggest you to check the laptop as part of another work good and compatible adapter.

In the case of the use of the 2nd AC adapter would not solve your problem, laptop computer mother needs an audit.
I think that in this case only authorized service partner may help you.

  • Satellite C660-125: Software Message: cooling system problem

It has detected a problem with the cooling system please pay immediately the computer and return it for service

This message appeared recently, pc works well and only bought last month, is an isssue of software and how can I solve this problem.

    Hello

It seems that it is a software bug. You should recover the laptop using Toshiba HDD recovery or Toshiba Recovery disk that you create by using the recovery disk creator

Usually the message should not appear in the future

But don t be afraid if you didn t notice a higher temperature, and if the laptop only turns off automatically, then everything should be ok!

I have a Toshiba P300D 12 L and I have problems whit the cooling system.

Wich, cooling pad is recommended for this laptop.
I don't know what type of cooling pad I could buy.

    Can u recommend one please?
    Thank you.

    Hello

I assume you mean on the cooling module
Well, each piece is created specially for each series laptop
This means that you need a cooling module that is compatible and designed for the satellite P300D.

All compatible parts can be ordered from local ASP (certified partner).

Therefore, there is nothing to do to get in touch with a local service point and order the necessary parts

Notes; disassembly of the laptop is tricky not easy as with desktop PC
That is why the cooling modules should be replaced by a professional

  • Language for the W530 system problem

    Hello!

I have laptop W530; bought in Germany, but I don't speak German at all.

After the purchase of the first start he gave me to choose the system language (there was a note that it is not possible to change it later). There are 2 choices - German or English. I chose English and was happy until 2 days ago, I decided to restore Windows to their original state. I created recovery disks and successfully restored the partition C of my machine.

The problem is that there is no option to change the language and more. There were these menus "select your country and keyboard configuration. But it's all in German. I thought that I had missed this when choosing the language, so restored C partition once more and looked at very carefully in all menus on the first boot, but he's not here.

I have windows 7 pro 64-bit. I found I need ultimate for windows support etc. language packs.

Can I do in addition to acquire normal windows on mall torrent? How this choice between German and English languages?

  • Presario S6500NX (early 2000 XP system) - PROBLEM of READER of CD/DVD-RW and SON INTERNS

    Hello

    Hoping someone can provide assistance.

Long ago, I put a cd very scratched into my dvd/cd-rw drive (Philips DVD 8301). The car tried to read, but could not. Can I have heard a strange noise in the process. After this incident, the drive would no longer turn entirely to allow playback of a media. I would like to see the green light go off/on power and hear start intermittently before it would stop completely. It is in my system, no error message about the drive and my software seems to be up-to-date. Think you that needs replaced or is training - it something else? Anticipate, I could swap out, I opened the tower and found two connections, labelled P4 and P8, loose. Don't know if this could have something to do with him or if the wires are supposed to not be connected. If the wires are supposed to not be connected, I wonder what they are for.

    Thank you for your understanding.

    Mark

The problem with optical drives is that the laser errors are not reported to Windows.  If a laser fails, Windows will have no way of knowing this.  At this point, it seems not be a failure of the driver somewhere between the laser and the player interface.  Device Manager is usually a good place to look for errors indicating a material error, but it is not a definitive source to identify hardware problems.  When it comes to optical drives, Device Manager is ideal for checking the system detects it and if there may be a driver or registry problem.  Since it seems in good condition, which excludes a driver or registry problem and leaves only the material aspect of it.

I agree with wb2001 that the best option at this point is to replace the drive itself.  It could be a replacement.  Amazon is not the only source, so don't forget to check around online to see what's out there.  If you use eBay, be sure to check the ratings.

Another option would be to replace the drive with a SATA drive, which will give you more drives to the choice, because the motherboard has SATA ports.

SATA connectors are located close to the VIA VT8237 chip.  If the power supply has a power cord SATA, pictured below, you could move to a DVD SATA drive instead.  IDE is not so common more with the advent of SATA connections.  Even if the power is not a SATA power connector, there are ways around that.

You will need a few things to accomplish this task:

    1. a SATA like this one.  Make sure that the drive is a standard size rather than a thin/thin.

    2. If the power supply does not have a SATA power connector, you will need a molex to SATA converter like this one.  A SATA power connector is typically a black connector wider and flatter and would replace the molex power connector to the drive.

    3. If the DVD player is not come with one, you also have a SATA cable like this one.  Most DVD players tend to come with one, be sure to check features.  This would replace the wide ribbon cable, connect the drive to the motherboard.

Let me know if this has answered your questions.

  • charging on different operating systems problem

    Hello

Since this is my first post, I'll say this first: I love my 4 GB Sansa Clip!

I had a strange problem, however, and a quick look through the forums has not enlightened yet, although I apologize if it's already been processed somewhere I use my Clip in MSC mode exclusively (DPW was just too odd and flaky). To make it work fine on Windows XP, Mac OS X Tiger and Ubuntu Linux 9.04. Windows is on my main computer, and several months ago the Clip stopped being recognized. In fact, when I plugged into the computer, it come alive and say it is 'connected', but it would not charge and it would not appear as a device in Windows. So I tried it on my Mac mini, and it worked fine. So I used it on my Mac mini since then, but tonight, the same thing happened there: I plugged into it, he said 'connected', but not charged and could not climb. I'm so back to my Windows machine thinking maybe the moody aircraft was begging for some MS action tonight, but no luck. So I restarted in my distro Ubuntu (9.04 v and guess what?) Fortunately, it is charging as I type and he fitted immediately and allowed me to transfer files via.

So, what gives? Why would it matter what operating system tries to mount? It is a complete mystery to me, and I wonder how long I could have before even Linux stops recognize it...

Anyone else encounter this? Thanks in advance!

I can't speak for your Mac problem, but sometimes the Windows can have a brainfart and corrupt the USB driver. Go in with the connected player Device Manager and look for a faulty device (indicated by a triangle-and-yellow exclamation icon) in the tree view of the devices Universal Serial Bus controllers section. Delete any you find, disconnect the drive and restart your PC. Once Windows has finished loading, reconnect the video and Windows should detect and reinstall the driver.

  • Recovery Vista professional system problems

I ran the system recovery on the computer with the disc and inadvertently added the operating system on Recovery D drive and cannot be removed.  I tried to run the recovery again and now operating system is in the two discs and defaults to D drive when you restart the system.  When the black screen appears, I select the C drive and it opens but I am having problems and getting errors that there is not enough space to run programs.  I tried to delete recovery, but it won't let me format or delete the files in D.  Does anyone have a solution to this problem.  I'm totally stumped.

    Hello

You don't say what disk you used to do the reinstall.

D: partition recovery doesn't have enough room to add a relocation to the recovery of already existing files, so it appears that you have crushed the recovery with the reinstall new partition.

    To reinstall it again.
