  My working group stopped working after the installation of the new wireless router.  Router was switched were to move from DSL to fiber optic.

  I have a very simple home with two laptops working group, the two are connected with a wireless router.  A PC is running XP with the updates and service packs; the other PC is Windows 7 Home premium.  This working group was running without problems for a few years.  The Working Group has been used to share files between two laptops.  Internet access was through the DSL wireless router and print was with a wireless printer, without going through the working group.

  I had my DSL set out to free fiber optic last week, which meant that a new wireless router has been installed by my local phone company.  Internet works fine; wireless printer works.  The working group no longer works.  When I try to connect from XP to Win7 and I click on mode workgroup computers, I get this message:

  WorkGroupName is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions.

  The network path was not found.

  I tried to create a new working group, the new name for the same workgroup on both machines, but this did not help.  Working groups are supposed to be simple; This seems to be a problem on the new router - telco tech support says that nothing is stuck on the router. I don't believe them.

  I'm having a strange problem and I know it won't be easy to diagnose, but let's give it a shot.  I have two iMacs in my studio, a 4 k and a 5 k, with El Capitan 10.11.2 and both connected to an ethernet network and talk to a server on a Mac Mini (latest OS and OS X Server).

  I mention the server, because I think it may be interesting, but that's just a guess.

  Basically both of these computers have a strange inability to stop.  You choose stop and they go through the motions all the way to the black screen with the toothed wheel turn, and then it just lingers there.  Forever.  Well, at least 24 hours because it is the longest, that it went unnoticed at the time.  Usually, I wait a few minutes and then make a stop of the force.  (I wait a few minutes because sometimes, not often, but sometimes, the computers will be correctly closed.)

  Both machines are wired on the server and use frequently shared fire (SMB and AFP) to load files on networked drives.  Yet once again, I mention this because this is the common point between these machines that seems to be the exception to a common use, and I wonder if the connection to the server is the process that prevents computers from closing properly.

  If anyone can help point me in the right direction would be great.

  Well I guess this problem is unique to me, however, if someone else liquidate the same problem, I think I have it solved.  I changed the file sharing preferences to just AFP (disabled SMB).  This seems to have solved a variety of issues that I had with my network, including iMacs hanging on closing down.

  I've updated the software for my Mac mini yesterday (19/12/15). When updates have been made, I stopped as usual - except that the gear on the screen remained there for at least 30 minutes. I had to unplug the mini to stop the process. Today, I started the camera and there worked - App Store showed that need updating, so I think that he had no problem with the installation yesterday.  But when I stopped, the engine remained once again on the screen for a long time. I finally had to unplug again. Any ideas what is wrong and how to fix it?

  Several parts of the update are not actually installed until the machine stops.  The installation process can take a long time, and Apple install progress estimates are notoriously inaccurate (the "About 2 minutes to the end" on my El Capitan upgrade took more than 6 hours!) »).  I say stop the machine before you go to bed and see if it ends in the morning.

  If this is not the case, try resetting the PRAM (NVRAM) memory when you start.   Probably a good idea to do whenever you make an upgrade of the OS.  The El Capitan upgrade on one of my machines was starting slow until I reset the PRAM.
