Dell Inspiron 17R - short self test unsuccessful

Hi I bought my laptop in September and it was great, but today he asked me to do a system check.

Initially, it gave me an error saying 'Targeted read Test failed' to my HARD drive and advised me to do a scan using the Dell Diagnostics at startup.

The result is the following.

Error code: 2000-0142

Validation: 106114

MSG: Hard drive 0 - S2WZJ90D491306 S/N, short unsuccessful test

I read that I am eligible for a replacement HARD drive since I am still under warranty and I received in my email but I didn't know how to go on this issue.

I'm also a student at the University, so I really need a laptop from work. Live in Ireland, that ETA would if I sent my laptop?

    The hard disk will fail for sure either sooner or later, but it is a good idea to take a new hard drive and replace it with the old.

    You can use the Windows 8 installation CD/DVD to reinstall Windows 8 in the future. If the system breaks down suddenly and you have not taken any backup of important files, creating full system image is always recommended.

    My Dell Inspiron 17R laptop 5720 was working fine until today, she won't start now. I had a virus, but Avira seemed to clean it properly, so I thought everything is ok now, but after restarting my laptop I didn't even have the "Dell" screen more. I've been Googling this topic for hours, but no one seems to have this kind of problem. Most of the users get stuck after the POST screen, but I don't yet get there. I just press the power button and that's it - laptop starts, but doesn't show anything. 1 out of 10 times, I managed to start and it works perfectly, even restart Windows it works then, but once disable us it probably will start again for the next 7-8 attempts.

    Things I've tried:

    -Remove the battery, hold the power button / stop for 60 seconds

    -In the course of running Dell Diagnostics (regular and thorough mode) test - it detects no error

    -Commissioning with or without battery

    -Flashing of BIOS (A14)

    -Reinstalling Windows, even tried Linux

    -Remove the strips of memory, trying to start with one stick (I had 2 x 4 GB) - will not change anything

    It looks like a problem that does occur from time to time. It is a hardware or a software problem? Is there anything else I should try before sending it for repair?

    Given that the system turns after several attempts, it may be due to poor nutrition or inadequate food, bad drive HARD or other hardware problem.

If the hard disk does not have enough power during the first time the computer starts, it will not be able to spin the platters of hard drive fast enough to start the computer. However, if you restart the computer, two, three, or four times, because the platters spin already, he is able to get the drive to speed and able to boot from the disc. Try with an AC adapter / CC known good and control; If the problem continues, I suspect it is a HDD failure.

    I strongly suggest you to immediately perform a backup of all your personal files, data, and anything else that is important for you to external media (an external IMO is better but you can also use CD/DVD or a USB flash drive) until the hard drive breaks down.

    Hello and sorry for this late post. Just had this problem... If there is nothing wrong with the AC adapter, it's a software problem.

    Close the laptop... Unplug the AC adapter / CC... Remove the battery... Plug the power adapter... Start the laptop... Go to the control panel... Find and select the Device Manager... Batteries, left click... Uninstall Microsoft AC Adapter, uninstall Microsoft ACPI compatible with battery control method... In fact, uninstall all you can under the batteries, but that should be all there is. It will be re - install when starting... Stop cell phone... Remove the AC adapter / CC... Replace the battery... Plug the power adapter... Start the laptop... Now, everything should be good.
