Dell OptiPlex GX260 RAM maximum

Hello people!

I have a Dell OptiPlex GX260 desktop computer with serviceADMIN NOTEnumber: maintain the label removed by privacy policy >. It's a PC refurbished that my sister bought from our office many years ago. I want to ask you what is the maximum RAM that can be upgraded to? When I went through the manual years, if I'm not mistaken, I read that its maximum RAM is 2 GB. But I don't know if my memory is good. I intend to upgrade the RAM, and I want a bit more than 2 GB. By example, if I have improved his more than 2 GB RAM (if that's the correct maximum RAM for my model), what will happen? It will damage something on board? Or it will make the System unstable?

Thank you.

  • I reinstalled Windows XP Home Edition on a Dell Optiplex GX260, and now I can not conntect to the internet.

I am going through the help pages, but do not receive a lot of help. I used the window network, set up several times and it doesn't give me a single connection and even will not create a second try. It's 1394 connection. I click Repair and he says: "failed to query TCP/IP connection parameters. Cannot continue. »
I normally work with unix/linux, windows do not know. Carrying high that IE gives me the generic, the page cannot be displayed error. It goes right to that error, does not even attempt verify an active connection.
I have one router with 3 other systems connected and working, so I know that the problem is specific to this host.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thank you

Just as with * nix, if you want a hardware device to communicate with the operating system - you must install the appropriate drivers so that they can talk to each other.

At this point, you are trying to use a firewire connection (1394) to your network. ;-)

What you need to do is quite simple - but will probably require the use of another machine (or another OS already on the machine that runs on Internet) at least for the first downloads (the motherboard chipset and the NIC driver).

If you visit the Dell technical support & downloads from the website for this particular desktop , you will see all the drivers that Dell provides for the system using Windows XP.

Dell offers you download and install the drivers in this order:

    • Chipset
    • Video adapter
    • (NIC) Network Interface Card
    • Audio adapter
    • Modem
    • Wireless network card
    • Touchpad, pointer, pointing button, mouse and keyboards
    • Other devices

In this case, I suggest that download you the chipset driver and network card driver - get first install them in this order with some necessary reboots, then you should be able to configure Internet and get other drivers using the machine itself.

I'm looking for a CPU fan that is improved to an old Dell Optiplex GX260. The original fan has a hint of noise from 54.50 dBA; WAY too strong. I'm looking for something with a closer note of 20 dBA noise. Has anyone found a nice CPU fan, quiet that will fit this model?

No fans will be fit. Its owner.  Removal of fan Dell will close "FAN FAILURE.

  • Dell Optiplex RAM Upgrade 790

I recently bought a Dell Optiplex 790 desktop computer.

Data sheet: i5 2400, RAM 4 GB (2 X 2 GB DIMMS), I can pass the ram by installing 2 more 2 GB DIMM to make a total of 8 GB or do I need to install 2 X 4 GB to 8 GB of RAM.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If you have 4 DIMM slots, you can make 4x2GB. If you have 2 slots DIMM, you must do 2 x 4 GB.

  • Can I add a memory for my Dell Optiplex GX280?

Can I add a memory for my Dell Optiplex GX280?  He is running on 2 256 MB. dor2. 400 CL3

    * Nothing * to do with Microsoft Windows, really.

One place of spec on (and to buy, actually) good memory of:
    http://www.crucial.com/

With the help of their memory Advisor...  I see...

    Type of memory: DDR2 PC2-5300, DDR2 (non - ECC)
    Maximum memory: 4 GB
    Slots: 4
Memory each slot can hold DDR2 PC2-5300 with a maximum of 1 GB per slot.

But with this machine, except if you use it just for the essential (and nothing more recent than the manufactured 2005-2006ish date topic installed on it) - I suggest not wasting money.  Do pretend, raise money and then don't buy it.  What to do for the next few months and buy some replacement $ 300 with twice the processor, three times the RAM and probably several times in the space of hard drive... ;-)

  • Dell Optiplex 755 SFF 2015 video card update

    Dear readers.

I'll buy my first Dell computer, which is a Dell Optiplex 755 Small Form Factor. It has a Core 2 Quad q6600 CPU in it, with 2 GB of ram and a PSU 275w. I have a Nvidia Geforce GT220 video card, which is a low profile video card, it can consume the maximum of 58 W, and this video card requires at least 300 W works without problems. Will it work with this diet?

I'll buy an Ati Radeon HD 2400 XT, because im does not intend to do some games 'hardcore' and other animals, it can be good for my needs.

The 2400XT is very outdated and terribly weak power. You are much better with people like a Sapphire 6450, that can be done for $43 postpaid from Newegg.

  • Dell Optiplex 780 memory update does not

    1. I have purchase Dell Optiplex 780 supplied with memory DDR3 8 GB (4x2Go). I wanted to update so I bought 4 GB RAM (4x1Go) and tried to install it today. The diagnostic lights Dell on 3 and 4, which means that the memory is detected, but at fault. Now, I doubt that this new module of memory are defective. Here's what I did to solve problems:

I took the original strips and installed a new. There are 4 DIMM and I tried to put it in all the 4 connectors DIMM one, but my PC will not start and shows the Dell diagnostic lights lit 3 and 4. then I put my original RAMS but still the same problem has happened that I also tried the two Rams Original one by one in all the slots but same question :(

I also tried without installed memory but still Dell lights lit diagnostic 3 and 4 and no beep heard.

Can someone help me what is the problem real?

    Hi Danish_smartpk,

Welcome to the Dell Community Forum.

If the 3 and 4 diagnostic lights are lit, it is code modules of memory detected, but a memory failure that occurred. You also mentioned that there is not only no beeps no heard when no memory is installed. When no memory is detected by the system, it emits beep codes indicating the same.  If the motherboard is not beep when no memory is installed, it could indicate failure systemboard.

It is generally recommended that the BIOS updated before the new memory being installed. In addition, your computer supports a maximum of 8 GB of RAM DDR3 SDRAM (memory non - ECC only). If it already came with 8 GB of memory, it would not take an additional upgrade.

  • Dell Optiplex 360 CPU Upgrade Qeuestion

Hello. I've owned a Dell Optiplex 360 Mini-Tower. I made a few updates already as a 500W what ATX PSU, 4 GB of RAM and a dedicated PCI-E graphics card but I want to upgrade the processor that comes with it. He is currently running an Intel Core 2 Duo Duo E7400 and I would like to an E8600. According to the service manual Dell Optiplex 360, it is the maximum CPU I can http://www.citgrup.ro/pdf/Calculatoare/Calculator_Dell_Optiplex_360MT_specificatii_tehnice_citgrup.pdf my question is should I also upgraded the heat sink housing / owner Dell fan or can I use the same one that came with my case? You want to make sure that I have no overheating issues as well and the heat sink is enough for this upgrade as this CPU is listed on the technical guide. Also, someone has done this before CPU update can give any feedback as well? Thank you.

They are the two Wolfdale so must use the same heatsink / fan of the case. Don't forget to clean the old paste and apply the new paste.

  • Form factor of the graphics cards that work with the Dell Optiplex 760 desktop computer?

    Hello

So I recently got this Dell OptiPlex 760 desktop form factor that I really like and I would get a video card for it.

It's the desktop form factor. The second largest next to the mini tower. There a 240W (or 250?) food I don't want to change. I would like a GPU that works with a supply of 240 w.

I wish it were less than 60 dollars. I do some light games (Minecraft) and want to join a substantial amount of FPS with this game. Suggestions of the card?

    I'll give you more information.

It fits into all THE MODELS except the USFF because USFF has no slots.  You will need to remove the flange size and use the version of low profile.

    cs_setInnerHtml ('video_9366bb5b-9fda-4cca-bfea-c4ec470df1e3', ");

Maximum power allowed is 25W on low profile units.

It is also why they Print 25W max on the 16 X video slot.

Hello! I recently acquired a Dell Optiplex 960 (the larger one) and it comes with the integrated graphics card, so I was wondering what graphics card I put in it?

I used an OptiPlex 960 SFF (Q9650 processor) and 8 GB of RAM as a development machine. I installed a Sapphire 6570 graphics card and had absolutely no problem; the 6570 will be a huge leap in performance and features on the integrated graphics card.
