• 40 vcpu VM hardware requirements?

  Hi all

  Running a 15-node cluster with 2 core socket/6 blade servers.  I had a request for a 40 VM vCPU.  I'm having a brain Peter here.  The physical servers have more than 40 hearts to run this?  I always thought as the root of the list of resources to share the CPU in the cluster to give the VM vCPU 40 but my colleague thinks otherwise.

  We run ESXi 5.1 Enterprise Plus.

  A VM is only running on a single physical host at any given time. In other words, only a single virtual machine can use the resources provided by a single host. As a vCPU maps to a thread of a physical CPU, it makes no sense at all to provide a virtual machine with more than 24 vCPUs in your environment (2 x 6 cores + HT which should have enabled). I also think that you can even create a VM with vCPUs more than you have physical threads available in your single host.

  Demand for vCPU 40 seems clearly oversized and not aware of the infrastructure. I hope that they have an extremely solid and objective explanation to do this, I guess they don't have any.

  Hell, even a recent physical Intel 2 sockets, 8 cores + powerful server HT cannot provide much more CPU resources.

  I'm new to VMware (ESXi v4.0) but old for HER and have spent the last two days vacuuming upward as much as I can of this community sites and the seller.

  I am familiar with SMP, and it is not a discussion of application that supports SMP.

  I am challenged with consolidating a DC of old 32-bit applications.  Competition is the question at hand.

  Right now I have planned for each guest at least 2 x 8, but I keep stumbling on the need of SMP versus vCPU pCPU calendar by ESX.

  Can you please help me understand the UP/SMP considerations when I have applications that create multiple instances of client on the server?

  In simple terms:

  Assume that all pServers have 2 pCores pCPUs/12 and 24 sons.

  Say there's a guest running a Win2003 x 32 OS and the software that runs spawning separate instances for each client connection

  Suppose that the application creates instances of individual software 20 (single threaded), one for each user connection

  If it were physical servers I allocate multiple processors to reduce conflicts and improve concurrency

  What is the concept of CPU contention exists in a vCPU or can a single vCPU serve 20 apps by distributing activity Jepp on threads and carrots in the physical server?

  This affects the number of comments, type of OS install and resource planning is an important issue for me to solve.

  Here is a white paper that explains Planner vSphere and the difference between previous versions of ESX.

  You are right in that the Planner real timeblock is in milliseconds and not seconds, a planning decision is taken.  RISC is a little different than used in ESX planning mechanisms.  The white paper that describes as well.  As you can control access to the CPU by using the actions and reservations and limits, it is difficult to adapt to these options in a task scheduler priority RISC regular basis.

  Also remember now that allocation vCPU and memory to a virtual machine does not only the memory of all other machines, unless you use bookings.  When there is no claim, the virtual machine will use only cycles cpu and memory MB they actually need.  So, if my vm is given 4 GB, but is only actively using 200 MB, only 200 MB is made available to it of the ESX host.  At the same time, transparent page sharing will be more or less matching the blocks of memory and use pointers to help more with the memory usage.  As far as images server go, consolidation is good in terms of applications, but not many suppliers to test with applications of other vendors, so we have a large number of systems that are related to applications and consolidation of demand is low.  I still have systems that use, though users not heavy, that run app and db on 1 vCPU very well.

  Hello

  I have a few questions about vCPUs in a Virtual Machine.

  (1) VMware plans to introduce carrots attributing inside vCPUs in the future? (In order to create a VM with one vCPU and 4 Cores and probably to map each carrot to a H.E.C instead of using a virtual machine with 4vCPUs)

  I know that VMware VMware workstation.

  (2) I don't know if my application is not designed for multi threading, so I have not gain too advantage of multiple processors, but I don't know if happens the same for multiple cores in a CPU. (in a windows environment)

  Any link to a white paper will be very grateful. The debate is that I don't have to have an application of multi threat. Windows handles the workload and will spread the load to multiple cores or multiprocessor.

  (3) when I have a virtual machine with 8 vCPUs, VMware Says It will plan all 8 vCPUs even if only one vCPU has a task to run. (the entire concept of the time ready cpu)

  Is this requirement by Windows to have all 8 available processors to run correctly or VMware. Is it possible to dynamically use the carrots needed?

  1: doable, perhaps--but anything requiring rework a .vmx file is simply not a good idea for a production environment, especially in a perspective of VM management.  If the syntax of the configuration is changed, you must then press each update virtual machine.  Do something like this only if a use case calls specifically for her.  Watching the procession of technology historically, VMware Workstation often appears to be used as a test of technology for features later can be introduced in VMware Server and ESX.  If the fact of technology in ESX is finally up to VMware, the possibility of extending the technology in a platform like ESX and customer demand.  In addition, in the past, VMware does not features to future products.

  2: discussions on the implications on the performance of the multi-core Strip vs can last for days.  We could lean toward multiple performance measures because the core of treatment will not share a cache with other nuclei.  On the other side of this coin, could lean toward multiple cores for performance because more than one kernel could be linked to a Bank of memory (usually in a NUMA system).  The reality is that, all other things being equal, two processing cores is of two processing cores, if they are distributed on one or two sockets.  The benefits of an approach are balanced by the disadvantages on the other.  That said, the single-threaded applications are not multiple processors.  It's simple math - 1 instruction will run on 1 processor.  A transformer, a single instruction pipeline.  Hyperthreading provides 2 instruction pipelines.  If I have 2 processor (physical sockets or multiple cores), I have 2 instruction pipelines.  1 statement will still run only on a single instruction pipeline.  So the process will use only a single thread on a single processor core, no matter how much of threads available to me.  If I run a single-threaded in a 4 - way box, quad core application, I will use that the 16 cores as possible.  The windows process scheduler is not magic and cannot divide a single thread in multiple threads.  What the Windows scheduler is going to do, though, is managing the workload on several pipes of instruction.  A system can get some benefits from this due to the fact that the OS and most of the applications and services that run added up to a more large number of threads must be distributed to the CPU.  As a (very) simple example, my Windows Firewall and anti-virus are running, if two processes and in turn, two sons.  Windows will see two threads and also see that nothing happens on one of my two processor cores.  Instead of planning two programs on CPU0, Windows makes the decision to schedule the firewall on CPU0 and CPU1 on anti-virus.  None of the applications has SMP, but the system as a set of benefits.

  However, if your application is not multi-threaded, the main is to leave the virtual machine built with a single vCPU to minimize the CPU contention thanks to a scheduling conflict.  The exception to this would be when the guest operating system and the application attempts to predict more CPU time that can present a single CPU heart in physical reception (i.e. you have 2.5 GHz CPU in the host, but the guest in the virtual machine operating system is constantly asking to be programmed for 3.5 GHz of time processor).  In this case, add a vCPU to the machine virtual peut provide the requested additional CPU.

  3 see the white paper already bound.  I repeat what has already been said, the VMkernel CPU scheduler has many things to take into account in this determination.  There is not a general statement that can be made here.  Keep dozens (or more) happy VMs with their requests for time CPU is a difficult thing.  The VMkernel performs this task with great success.

• Bat 1 radio does not display "On Demand" page

  On iOS and iTunes, 1 bat home page is missing. This seems to be the wide account for me. For some strange reason when I go into the radio tab it comes to shows me the items recently played and not the standard page for 1 bat. See the image from iTunes below...

  

  It just shows a blank image where the Beats 1 logo used to be. Don't know what happened, but I tried to reinstall iTunes and logging in and out of Apple's music with no luck. I can still access the page On Demand, but you need navigate tab 'new '.

I had no problem with it, but now it won't allow me to play the video on Vimeo, however it works very well with Youtube. I can't find how to uninstall this page in firefox. Please tell me how to correct, update or reinstall so I can watch the videos on Vimeo. I need it for professional reasons, (teaching) tomorrow!

  Hi sgcpenny, Flash is by far the most common plugin. I think it is unlikely that the others work on the sites where you don't want to run. It does not hurt to try the setting and see if it works for you.

• iOS 9.3 VPN On Demand ignores RequiredDNSServers

  We have an application which works well on iOS 9.2, it uses the "RequiredDNSServers" of VPN service on demand. But when you take 9.3 (9.3 all versions, including 9.3.2 beta 4), VPN on demand just ignore "RequiredDNSServers".

  "RequiredDNSServers" is an array of IP addresses that are used to resolve the specified areas. When DNS servers are unavailable, a VPN connection is established in response. However, the VPN connection should never start.

  Submit a bug to apple iOS SDK team and got the answer that ' there is nothing can help Developer Technical Support, you need to connect General supported VPN that is supported by AppleCare. As I use the same mobile configuration on iOS 9.2 and 9.3 iOS but get totally opposite results. So I think there must be something wrong with iOS 9.3. Could someone help?

  Have a Qosmio F60 with built-in TV tuner. Running Windows 7 64 bit. I have install the TV tuner a few weeks back and it have not used much since. Windows Media Center is now "no tuner partitions to meet the demand for courses". Since the establishment of the tuner, I installed Pinnacle Studio 14 Ultimate Collection and, of course, the list of updates of Windows.

  I do not see the tuner in the material or the other list, but then I don't know if I'm supposed to.

  Having exactly the same problem.  Suspect it's a problem of Beachbody.  All other applications works very well.  Still no cure, but it's not just you!

  Tonight I went to SIX Verizon Wireless stores in Maryland, and I got exactly the same thing to each of them:

  Call them. Ask them if they have the Droid Maxx in stock. Instantly, I hear back 'Yes', without even a 'let me look for you. Go to the store, and OOPS, we just sell our last one ago about 13 milliseconds, you probably stumbled upon the person who got the last of them, that you walk in the door.

  Only ONE of the stores I called said they were out of stock, I asked if a lot of people asked their topic and they said 'oooooh, yes '.

  It's disappointing. Verizon does not satisfy the demand for this phone. Apparently they underestimated the pent-up demand for a phone of heroes and their marketing efforts, because an Apple store wouldn't would be caught dead without enough of the latest iPhone to meet demand. It takes a special kind of skill for a retailer of electronics to rush through the release of their latest gadget in misjudging the market and do not produce enough devices to meet demand.

  Is it possible that I can control this thing online and KEEP my unlimited data, or I have to go in a physical brick and mortar store to get a new nano sim card and keep my current contract? If it's possible, can I just order Verizon online or Amazon Wireless for Office Maryland VZW seems stocks about 2 phones in each store. I really don't like pay to have shipped, or waiting to ship or assuming the risk that it may get lost or stolen or damaged during transport, but it seems that I could not have other options.

  Today, I visited three Verizon stores in my area - all had them. The only stores I have heard do not have them are Best Buy and Radio Shack, but they should be available for delivery the next day by Ahead.

  I agree that sometimes it seems that they expect no such demand so they do not simply store, but I can also tell you that Verizon gets usually the shipments every day. What I've done in the past, it is call a shop around 15:00 and if they have one, I ask for them to hold for me with name and (sometimes) information as a number CC, my VZ account number, etc. and they have always done that for me.

  As for keeping your data plan, I believe you can buy the phone off contract and when they assign to your current number, you download moved outside your bundle data unlimited - but this also depends on the store. Apparently there's some ways to do 'good' and 'bad '.

  When you buy from Best Buy and a few "authorized retailers" they usually just you will walk out of the store with the phone (which should have a micro-sim installed) and you can go to the Verizon website and change your device through its Portal, which should also you lose is not your data plan.

  I would check these facts, but it's the way it worked the last time I did.
