Denied access to drives and folders previously accessible

Recently replaced XP with Win7.

The computer has one or more additional installed (internal) drives with XP, permissions set so that others in my home network can write for them. Now, I can't change even my own (single computer operator, administrator rights) access to appropriate. Backups and files available offline on other computers are now ALL messed up.

I spent hours trying to understand / and work with this supposed OS security 'improvement '.  Permissions AND ownership AND now 'effective' permissions and groups... Even after changing all these for pointing me in username, I always get access denied messages.

Help

You may need to take possession of your records - see here:
http://social.answers.Microsoft.com/forums/en-us/w7network/thread/24bdf172-2DBC-43b8-995d-a99b6a81413c/
If this does not work then it might be because you encrypted files on the Windows XP computer. To decipher them, you need the original encryption certificate and password.

There are a number of issues that can cause the behavior of this type. The most common is malware. Please proceed with the instructions below. Please do not perform any other task than those prohibited here. It confuses only my attempts to help you.

Click HERE. Download Malwarebytes. Update Malwarebytes and perform a full scan.  Choose to quarantine found nothing. Once completed click HERE and download Superantispyware Portable. Original title: portable destroyed - need for car access

I don't know if this is the right forum - please advice if it is not.

My friend's laptop computer was destroyed in a car accident. I pulled the drive and placed it in my desktop XP system and the drive appear in good health. However, I received permission issues trying to access records on the disk and thought that it was because of me using Win XP and the laptop was Win7x64. My questions below are based on the assumption that I'm not able to access these files on my Win XP system. If this assumption is incorrect, so please let me know.

I have a laptop that I don't use and put the disk in it. I was hoping it would be plug and play all the new material, but after reading a little online, I know that this is not the best thing to do and will probably not work as did the earlier versions of Windows.

In the end, I care retrieves the contents of the disc, although it would be great if I could lend my laptop for a few weeks with "its files" until it sorts how to replace the laptop.

Can I get the player Win7x64 working on the laptop computer of replacement by reinstalling Win7x64 on this laptop? I'm not "means a clean install/reformat, but have rather the Setup program detects an existing installation, and do its magic to get the operating system runs on new hardware?"

I know that this raises questions of MS licenses. If the installation process could get his old system running on the laptop replacement, if I have a small window of time completely to access his files before being forced to re-register the OS? I'm hoping so.

I'm looking for only a short-term solution - I do not recommend that he hopes that drive long term because the laptop got quite truncated of the accident, and once he gets a new laptop it will have everything he needs on this subject (OS, licenses, etc.). If I have a small window of time where I can simply copy their important files, or to lend him my laptop with its player and him can bring to its domestic network and the print out of all the things that are important, that it's going to be all together to move them to a new laptop when it is available.

    Thank you

    Hello

You experience this problem because of the permissions applied to these s folder.  To resolve this problem, you will need to take ownership of these files and folders.

Method 1: You can follow the steps mentioned in the link below to take possession of the records

Troubleshoot "access denied" when opening files or folders

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows-Vista/troubleshoot-access-denied-when-opening-files-or-folders

(Article above applies to Windows Vista, not valid for Windows XP)

Also check out the article below

How to capture a file or a folder in Windows XP
    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/308421

Method 2:  You can try a custom installation (not a format\clean facility).

See the link below for custom installation
using the install option custom without formatting the hard drive

Note: In custom installation only data would be transferred in Windows. Drivers, applications and the old folder will need to be reinstalled.

  • In Windows 7, signed as an administrator but get access denied to certain files and folders

I just started my new computer, set up my user profile and installed Quicken. He would not open the Ouicken backup file I had brought my old computer so I started looking for a solution and found that a number of files and folders have been marked read-only. Then, I started to change the file attributes to allow free access everywhere where I found them marked read-only. In some cases, there was an error message saying that the file could not be changed, so I ignored these files. In fact, my question is, why am I like the only user of this computer, being denied access to any file or folder? I gave myself (duh) administrator-level privileges, but Windows 7 does not recognize me as an administrator. Is there something that I missed when you set up Windows for the first time? Just a mess by changing the file attributes? Thank you.

In fact, my question is, why am I like the only user of this computer, being denied access to any file or folder? attributes? Thank you.

There are at least two issues here. First, Windows 7 uses a structure of different folders for pre-Vista versions and while there are files and folders whose names are the same as those used in XP, they are NOT records in the true sense of the word - they are JUNCTION points to which any user has not access - there is no point. Documents and Settings is one of these junction points - this is to allow existing applications that use the old pre to win 7 folder structure to run in Windows 7. See here for more information about junction points:

    http://www.Svrops.com/Svrops/articles/jpoints.htm

Secondly, I think you will see that the records that you have thought we have read-are not only in fact. A folder with the read-only BLUE box is NOT dead, and it's the standard attribute for folders in Windows 7. A read-only file or folder has a CHECKMARK in the read-only box, not a blued outlet box.

  • Change my C: / / drive and folders in my name

    Hello

Unfortunately, you cannot change the path of user name (C:\Username). However, you can change the display name of the user.

As you have already changed the full name of the user, and while searching for the location of C:\Username path always displays the name of the previous owner computer, you can go ahead create new user account for your desired name and transfer the files to your new user account.

    Create a user profile

    Now search for the question.

Follow the below link to fix the user profile damaged.

  • How can I access the files and folders in Windows XP?

    Original title: Big Stick required

For many years, I used XP Professional.  A few years ago, due to a scare, I added a password.  The disc recently got upset and the machine wouldn't boot.  The drive is now working as a slave on another PC, but now a number of files is not accessible.  I tried xcacls.vbs to view permissions without success.  Does anyone know a "big stick" to use in the circumstances, please?

  • to access the files and folders via FTP

    Hello
    I have a small question:

How to set up FTP access to the files of netgear NAS storage?

I've been using the SMB service and DLNA service for a long time without any problem, now I enabled the FTP service and I am able to connect normally, but I see not all the files listed in there, I checked all the options available but I see no reason for that.

I have ReadyNAS 102 - fw 6.4.1 and I use windows8.1 with total software order to connect as a client.

My PC and the NAS are connected to the router via a cable as they are both in LAN: 172.16.1.35 - NAS, 172.16.1.32 - PC

Maybe I need to put a special permission or I do something wrong?

    Thank you.

OK, I finally found the reason.

I need to go to the actions, choose press rack button and set permissions for FTP access.

    After that, it works fine.
I think that the http interface is very intuitive, it does not give only your clear vision of functions - I had a few problems before with an unclear interface.

  • Why my VPN clients cannot access network drives and resources?

I have a cisco asa 5505 configured to be a VPN gateway. I can dial using the anyconnect VPN client. The remote user is assigned an IP address to my specifications. However... The remote user cannot access network such as disks in network resources or the fax server. I've done everything I can to set the right settings NAT and ACLs, but in vain. I write my config... If someone can track down the problem. It would be appreciated!

    Hello

What is the IP address of the hosts/servers LAN Gateway?

If this is not the ASA 'inside' interface IP address then I assume that the problem with VPN is simply routing.

For example, if your hosts/servers LAN wireless LAN gateway router then the following would happen to your Clients VPN connections.

    • Forms of customers login VPN users through configuring wireless routers static PAT (Port Forward) to interface "inside" ASA
    • Client VPN sends traffic through the VPN to ASA and again the host of the server or LAN.
    • Host/server LAN sees the connection from a network other than the LAN (192.168.202.0/24) and therefore to forward traffic to the default gateway that would likely be the wireless router.
    • Wireless router has no route to the network 192.168.202.0/24 (VPN Pool) and therefore uses its default route to the external network to forward traffic.
    • Client VPN host never received the traffic back as transmitted sound on the external network and abandoned by the ISP

So if the above assumption is correct, then you would at least need a configuration of the road on the wireless router that tells the device to transfer traffic to the network 192.168.202.0/24 to the 192.168.201.200 gateway IP address (which is the SAA)

I would like to know if the installation is as described above.

  • Set security on 'Decline' for users of Windows/object, cannot access a drive C and d. 'Access denied'-[[problem solved]]

    last updated *.

Problem is SOLVED. Read my response at the bottom of this thread.

    * Update *.

Solved for drive D as now but it is still not accessible. Help the Microsoft Experts kindly. By clicking on the C drive, I got "access denied."

    Hello world.

I need help. I have windows 8, 64 bit computer laptop.  This system has 3 active accounts now. Account_One that is my administrator account. I have another

"limited account" created on my machine Account_two and the third one is "Guest account" account that is enabled.

Before you lend my cell phone to a friend in Account_two login I tried to restrict access to drives C and D of this Account_two which is a limited account.

While I was doing it, I put approval for object 'Windows users' 'decline '. This object is usually the last in the list of objects on the window that appears when we sail to click with the right button on C drive > properties > Security. I realized that instead of

for Account_two I did for Windows users / which means maybe Windows/users / * which covered my admin account too and that too on the drive root C.

When I connected to my Account_one account that is an administrator account, I'm not able to access drive C and D where I put the authorization of 'decline' for all the attributes as shown above to object/Windows users.

One of the folder that was on my desktop allows me to go inside the d drive as I kept this shortcut for easy access, but there is no way to navigate from c or d ' training on domestic issues. Not just me even Windows can not access important services such as 'Restore' and many others built in utilities of windows which simply will not charge blinking message windows has no access to it!

Please help how to access drive C and D for my administrator account. I am connected to this account now, but can not access drive C or d. when I go to the Security tab in the drive C and D right click Properties I get the screen it as: you must have read allowed to view the properties of this object. Click Advanced to continue. When I click on advanced, I see the "advanced security settings for local disk (d :)), where the owner is presented as: unable to display current owner."  Exchange (Link) when I click on 'Change' I get the error message: cannot open access control editor access is denied.

So I put the Windows/user object to "deny" on the tab security for all read and writes, and I'm not able to access anything whatsoever since my administrator account.

Please let me know how to change access to 'allow' for c and D drive for the object user/Windows. From now there is no way to access this object by result cannot set permissions there.

    Help, please.

    Thank you very much.

    Thank you very much.

    Problem is SOLVED!

After three days of effort I was finally able to fix this mess.  It took me three days after going through many similar positions as mine but no final answer or fix, so I kept

through the 'access denied' messages on this community and won an idea on what

had happened and what needed to be done. What I found that there are several hundred people

like me, who have faced this problem and there is no final official help file to explain how to fix

He IS but he MICROSFT official 'support chat' where they ask for $149 to connect remotely and difficulty

    the problem!

in any case, here's how I solved my problem for people who need to fix it in case it happens to you.

How the problem began; Read my original post above on top. In short, I set the security setting to refuse to

Users of Windows/under the Security tab that comes after a right click drive then properties > Security. I put it and lost access to all readers!

    How I fixed it.

Thanks to some nice people on this page of the community who have posted knowledge. A man had displayed the creation of "Administrator" "guest account of orders that I did now, I could sign out of my account and get on the 'Administrator' account with admin privileges so that I could fix it the mess on my account problem. So if you have similar problem first create the command prompt administrator account. However this only solved the problem partially as I could reverse the problem only on drive D and not on the drive C. I was able to go to security settings and set the properties 'allow' for drive D, but I was not able to read the page of security for drive C as he said I haven't read privilege he even newly created admin account.

Now if I needed the "Access denied" problem on drive C. I continued through messages of so many "access denied" here and discovered about utilities like SFC, TAKEOWN, ICACLS, but none of them worked from the command prompt I always said "access denied."

Thing was to take the mouse to the right of the screen and get this blue bar, then settings > change PC settings > General - Advanced startup-press the button -. Then he made up the blue screen, where you have the option called troubleshooting... go there and then advanced setting > look to start Windows from the command prompt. Do you have a command prompt with C:\windows\system32 on the command prompt. Here, my order was accepted both takeown and icacls. If I shot a command there: TAKEOWN /F /R C:\/a and I also tried icacls to give permissions after checking using the syntax on the command line itself. All commands ran successfully this time, but be careful what you give in the command. It's under a lien high built based on the account of Windows 8.

Takeown command executed successfully and it solved my problem. I leave the command prompt then connected to this administrator account. This time, I could go to the Security tab of the C drive and set allow it for users here. Still on some issues, I was getting no access permission, but I was asked to change it to allow me to access to and I was able to do.

For access to the C drive on the Security tab, you need to go to the 'Advanced' and change the owner too.

in any case I'm happy this is finally resolved even if I wasn't getting much help responds I used the previous positions of other threads to solve.

Since he was not an official help of WINDOWS or MICROSOFT on that page, I'm sure I did the security setting while making the methods of trial and error on my machine which may not be the right setting from the point of view of security in general, so I'll try to reset the default state machine as my problem is now solved.

So I fixed it. If you need help let me know and I'll try to help you, and I do not charge $149 or $99.  ;-)

  • Error message "Access denied" on the sharing of files and folders on a dual-boot computer.

    I have a Dual Boot PC - the two Windows 7 Home Premium - one 32-bit, 64-bit.

If I try to access files created in the 32-bit system to the 64-bit system, I get "Access Denied" errors. This is extremely annoying as its my PC, my data, my everything!

The only way to solve the problem seems to be to give all permissions to "Everyone", but then I get my parcel Internet Security complain bitterly that my PC is now open to piracy because I gave "Everyone" full access permissions.

I searched the Web and Microsoft, but I never seem to find exactly what I'm looking for; part of my search text seems to have more weight than another. For example, I add "in the system to dual-boot" and I get links to creating a dual boot system.

If anyone has any suggestions on how to grant permissions to access 32-bit system folder to the main user on the 64 bit system, I would be very grateful.

    Thank you very much.

  • How to install Win7 on new hard drive and still access all the files from the hard drives of previous Vista?

I currently have a Windows Vista PC. It has two SATA drives, one with the operating system, the one I use for storage.

I want to buy a new SATA hard drive and install a new copy of Windows 7 top.

I want to know the steps to follow to do this. My plan is this:

    1. turn the pc power off and open the case.

    2. remove the old hard disks

    3. plug the new empty hard drive

    4. turn on the pc and the insertion of the disc to install to Win7 for DVD-ROM drive

    5. enter in the bios and put the DVD-ROM as first boot device

    6. install win 7 on new hard drive.

    Is this correct?

Because my next question is important:

    7. Turning off the computer.

8 reconnect the two old hard drives. New total number of SATA drives connected = three.

Now when I restart the PC and login to Win 7, it lists two other drives as, for example, D:\ and E:\ readers?

How can I make this work?

    Thank you very much!

Thanks for your reply, but I don't want to dual boot. I just want to have the hard drive as the master drive Windows7 and the old two drives as slaves, where I can access files as the pictures and letters.

    Any help would be appreciated!

Well, I would disconnect all drives hard current interns, then connect the new hard drive, reinstall Windows 7, re - attach the old readers as slaves and copy all the data you need to on the disc of Windows 7.

  • Access denied on hard drive

with a portable hard drive attached to my desktop (it is attached at this time). When I double click on the harddive it is said that the L:\ is not accessible. access is denied. Here is some info I have.  How can I access the hard disk.

    Device Manager

-the total size and free space of the disk (L) does not appear. However, the recovery of that disk partition shows still its size and space (m).

I took the boat owner and I still have the same problem.  To make sure I did it right.
I right click on the hard L drive
    Click the Security tab
    Click on continue
Click on system and Admisistrators (I did for both, just in case)

    I restarted the computer.

Sill gettting a message that says
    Location is not available
    L:\ is not accessible.
    Access is denied.

    Help, please

original title: double-click the hard drive to access it I get__ "location is not available" "access denied."

The fact that the total size and the use of the drive does not appear suggests that may not be connected correctly.  Check your connections (unplug them and reconnect them - don't tighten them just straight up).  Also, make sure you use the right connection cables.  When connected, you can see the Drive and the drive M in Windows Explorer - you should even if access is denied when you try to open?  You can access drive M?  If you do not see the drives in Windows Explorer there is more here than a simple permissions problem.

Here is some information on getting the right permissions and ownership (which, moreover, you do not have the procedure that you used).

To view your permissions, right-click on the file/folder, click Properties, and check the Security tab.  Check the permissions you have by clicking on your user name (or group of users).  Here are the types of permissions, you may have:http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-vista/What-are-permissions.  You must be an administrator or owner to change the permissions (and sometimes, being an administrator or even an owner is not sufficient - there are ways to block access (even if a smart administrator knows these ways and can move them - but usually should not because they did not have access, usually for a very good reason).)  Here's how to change the permissions of folder under Vista:http://www.online-tech-tips.com/windows-vista/set-file-folder-permissions-vista/. To add take and the issuance of right of permissions and ownership in the right click menu (which will make it faster to get once it is configured), see the following article:http://www.mydigitallife.info/2009/05/21/take-and-grant-full-control-permissions-and-ownership-in-windows-7-or-vista-right-click-menu/.

To solve this problem with folders/drives, takeownership files or the drive (as an administrator) and give you all the rights.  Right-click on the folder/drive, click Properties, click the Security tab and click on advanced and then click the owner tab.  Click on edit, and then click the name of the person you want to give to the property (you may need to add if it is not there--or maybe yourself). If you want that it applies to subfolders and files in this folder/drive, then check the box to replace the owner of subcontainers and objects, and click OK.  Back and now there is a new owner for files and folders/player who can change the required permissions.  You can change now switched to read-only (even if the main folder indicates that they are always read-only - you can access yourself as the owner).  You can keep them in read-only to other users, customers and administrators even (although they can support themselves and access, if they wish, and it is really not that you can do to stop it except protect the file with a password by using a 3rd party product.)  Here is more information on the ownership of a file or a folder:http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/67717-take-ownership-file.html. To add take ownership in the menu of the right click (which will make it faster to get once it is configured), see the following article:http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/add-take-ownership-to-explorer-right-click-menu-in-vista/.

Good luck and I hope this helps!

  • Windows 7 Professional... How to get access to security to view my external hard drives and external flash dirves

I am a first time user to windows 7 Professional and need to learn how to access files that are connected to the computer by an external flash drive or an external hard drive.

External or external flash drives hard drives can be connected to windows 8 computers or windows xp to view the files, but when then identical external or external flash drives hard drives are connected to two computers with windows 7 Professional there are settings automatically don ot all access to the external hard drive or flash drive external files.

When the computer display, it displays the external hard drive.

When I left click top produces a pop up with the title bar: location is not available

Content: H: | is not accessible.

    Access is denied.

When I right click on the hard drive and then click the Security tab, it displays:

Name of the object: H: |

To continue, you must be an administrative user with permission to view this object's security properties.

    Do you want to continue?

Then I clicked on continue and it displays:

    Owner

You do not have permission to view this object's security properties.  To view its security properties, you can try to take possession of the object.  As owner, you can also control who gets the permissions on the object.  Please note that once you take possession, the previous owner may not have access to the object.

To try to take possession of the object, select an account from the list, and then click OK.

Name of the object: H: |

Current owner: unable to display current owner.

    Change in ownership to:

the two choices are my name or administrators

I then chose an and apply and ok and it did not work.

I then chose the other and apply and ok and it did not work.

Then I clicked on other users or groups and entered everyone and that no longer works.

I am the only user of this computer brand new.

When I click on accounts Panel then user control and security for the family and then user accounts, it displays my name as administrator password.

What are the steps that I can buy an external hard drive or buy a flash drive or use the ones I already have and use them with this computer which has windows 7 Professional?

How is the switch of the property did not work?

I went back to safety again and this time stayed at the bottom for special permissions or advanced settings.

And yet when I kept getting location is not available

    H:\ is not accessible.

    Access is denied.

How do change you windows 7 Professional so that you can have access to your own files on an external hard drive or an external flash drive.

    Please list the steps.

    Thank you

This problem has been resolved in collaboration with support of higher HP for Z book 17 mobile workstation.

    Steps:

    (1) determines that it is not NTFS problem

    (2) using the MSCONFIG the problem has been isolated to a single service

When this service has been disabled and after reboot, the problem of access to the files is resolved.

Results: HP had installed software on the HP Z book 17 laptop or mobile workstation which, by default, block communication with external hard drives and flash drives external.

This HP Client Security software replaces or blocks all right click changes settings become apparent.  It blocks the change of ownership.  It blocks the administrator privileges.  It blocks all is used.

The HP Client Security software has been changed and changed to deny privileges (default setting) to allow the communication with external drives.  When you go into the setting for this software, it is now a humming noise and maybe I need to download the drivers and software again to see if this problem is also corrected.

Thanks for your comments.  I spent a lot of time on this and didn't understand why all right-click methods had failed.  The default software setting HP deny had trumped right click all changes.

When I go into my "d" drive to access my files I get a D:\Documents and Settings\Doug is not accessible. Access is denied. When I click on the D drive properties, it shows that 104 concerts are used. But when I open "D" and click on properties in each case they show that a total of about 4 gigs for all individual records. It seems that the files are still there but will not let me get to them.
