  I am currently scanning in some newspaper articles. I scan in the article and use "cut" to get a rectangle around the article of interest. Unfortunately, there is usually a photo which is 4 + large columns and an article which is columns 2 + wide, so I want an irregular shape to the pdf file. If I was physically, creating a book, I would use scissors to cut the stray columns, but I can't find a way to create anything but a box in Acrobat. If I open the PDF file in Photoshop, I can 'cut' a wandering column and remove it, but this does not seem unnecessarily effort-ful.

  You can use the writing tool to mark the areas that you want to remove, and when you apply the redactions these areas will be white.

  If you put a stamp on a document, then this is the work of SECONDS to save a copy if it appears on the screen. Do not rely on the visual appearance of anything these days. If you want to prove the authenticity of a document, you use the digital signatures - where the important bit is invisible, and there could be a stamp, you need to ignore.

For security reasons, there is no communication between the engine PDF printing and that the external program, so when you print the PDF file you will see nothing except the poster images.

  If however you embed your SWF in Acrobat 9 native mode +, it will play using the built-in Flash Player copy and will be printed, as long as you select "document and annotations" in the menu options and print on paper, it will look exactly as it does on the screen at the moment you press the button print, provided the SWF correctly handles step scaling.

  Acrobat Pro is certainly not the right tool for editing. You want to change the manual using the source - MS Word files for example. Once you have the full changes including OCD work as you want, Acrobat Pro is the tool to convert the source document to PDF format, and ensure the accessibility requirements of 508 - and preferably ISO 14289 (PDF/UA) - are met.
