determine which version of windows came with my laptop

I have a DV-6 (Ref #WA781UA #ABA) and my hard drive crashed. of course, I never did a recovery disc, so I tried to install a new copy of windows, but now it says my product key is not valid. I guess I got the wrong version.

is it possible for me to say based on my windows activation number or my reference number or serial number?

Thank you

Your fixed COSTS on the bottom of the laptop has the license key-plus the Windows printed on it.

Your page Specs here shows Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit:

You can order a recovery media for under $ $20. Scroll through the list of drivers to see the option:

    Hello

You uninstall not she, you reinstall Vista on top of it

You have the Vista DVD, so do a clean install with it.

As Vista is pre-installed you will need probably not the Producr Key that is on the sticker on your laptop if you use of the manufacturer provided recovery disk

If you need it, insert the product key from the sticker on the laptop case

Boot from the Vista DVD and follow the instructions of the manufacturer.

Make sure that the CD / DVD Drive (optical drive) is the 1st in the boot order.

    Hello

There is no Windows Vista downloads available from Microsoft.

Contact the manufacturer of your laptop and ask them to send a set of recovery disks.

They should do this for a small fee.

Some manufacturers have more available Vista recovery disks.

If this happens, you may need to try this instead:

You can also borrow and use a Microsoft Vista DVD, which contains the files for the different editions of Vista (Home Basic, Home Premium, Business and Ultimate) must be installed. The product key on your computer / Laptop box determines what Edition is installed.

Other manufacturers recovery DVDs are should not be used for this purpose.

And you need to know the version of 'bit' for Vista, as 32-bit and 64-bit editions come on different DVDs

    Hello

Here are the different ways to reinstall Vista

Contact the manufacturer of the laptop computer and ask them to send you to vista recovery disks to reinstall the operating system back as it was when you bought it

they do it for a nominal cost of $

    ____________________________________________________________

also ask them if you have a recovery partition on your hard drive to get back to the way you bought

you would normally press F8, F9, F10 or F11 or Alt + F10 or 0 to start to start the recovery process according to the manufacturer

Ask them of the exact key sequence

    __________________________________________________________

or borrow a vista microsoft dvd; not a HP, Acer recovery disk etc

Make sure that you borrow the correct 32-bit or 64-bit microsoft dvd to your computer

they contain all versions of vista

  • Installing a version of Windows 7 on a laptop which the CPU speed is 1.73 GHz?

    Hello

Can I install a version of windows 7 on a laptop with these specs:

    (1.73 GHz, 533 MHz FSB, 1 MB L2 Cache)
Mobile Inter @ Graphics Media accelerator X 3100
    512 MB DDR2

Not all laptops have graphics cards that can be removed and replaced with a more recent map / better. If your laptop does not update the graphics card, instructions should be in your manual. You can also consult the web site of the manufacturer of the laptop computer that the information can be displayed there as well.

Intel Graphics Media Accelerator (GMA) X 3100: Intel Graphics Media Accelerator (GMA) X 3100 is a (onboard) graphic chip on a mobile Intel 965GM chipset. It is the successor to the GMA 950 and has a fully programmable pipeline (fully supports the Aero Glass and DirectX 10 with latest drivers). The peformance of the X 3100 is much better that the GMA 950, always demanding the modern games does not work perfectly.

    Help, please!

Your relocation was made of a set of recovery discs Dell - which uses a key to Dell and cannot be enabled on any other brand.

It's a Dixons computer odf, then I suspec that the COA sticker on the case is for XP Home edition, while the installation is Pro.

You need to return to this system to its licensed version of Windows by using the recovery media for that PC - or a good disc XP Home OEM System Builder.
