Difficulty of locking my BB Storm blackBerry Smartphones

Hello. I have recently accepted a request to upgrade the software on my Storm. It seemed to mess up my settings and now I can't lock my phone. While the screen is locked as usual when I press on the upper edge on the left hand side, it seems that it be unlocked simply by pressing the red button again. How can I re - set the phone to ONLY lock and unlock by touching the top of the phone?

Hi and welcome to the Forums!

There was a bug in some versions which allowed the locking button work as he did. That has been fixed in the latest version of VZW (. 148). There's a debate which way was best, with (according to ME) the result firmly down as 50-50. And before you ask, there is no indication as to what future versions held in this regard.

So, the way that it works is now the way you live. To overcome it is to use a device password. Just be sure never forgot this password... If you enter wrong too many times, your device will be wiped.

Hope that helps!

  • Problems with my Blackberry Storm blackBerry Smartphones

I just bought a new Blackberry Storm Verizon about a week and a half. I really wanted to get one when they came out first, but a lot of apps from third party that I used all the time on my Motorola Q were not available for the storm. After waiting this long I decided to go there and get one anyway and test it. Much, I love the storm and the concept, Blackberry (storm) and very in deca. I used a Motorola Q for the last 3 years and could do almost everything I needed with it. Why make things too hard and try to be an island intrinsically Blackberry?

Problems I see with Blackberry and storm:

1 JAVAScript does not work correctly. I have installation of webcams in my office and at home that runs Javascript and they work perfectly on my Q using the browser Opera Mobile, Skyfire and IE. On my Storm, I tried to search for it a Blackberry, all three modes of emulation, BB, IE and FireFox and none it will display. (Note: I also tried the bolt and Opera Mini, the cushion of numbers does not work in Opera Mini, he types lower case letters).

    2. software remote access connection is another nightmare. I could use on my Q software VNC FREE remote access to my office or home computers. For the storm, the ONLY option I can find is simply a paid for the program.

    3. the third-party apps. There are very, very small number of third-party for the Blackberry Storm applications (and seems to be the Blackberry in general). Is Blackberry so hung up on themselves that they will not be open and allow the sellers to fill the big gaps they left with their product (s).

    4. I can't access to my college email address located on Microsoft Outlook Live via a web browser or email on the BB.

Here are some of the problems that I have seem to have with the BB. Too bad I don't like Windows, I have to say it works and third party apps are lacking and simply do not work. Apart from all this, I'm really doing my job as a storm for me, because I love the technology involved with him.

A gleemer of hope, thanks goodness PDANet has finally released a beta for the storm. He was the biggest reason that I would not get a storm originally was to be able to connect my laptop to my smartphone.

It seems fitting that BB is trying to keep their technology wrapped so that no one else can fill in the gaps that they leave, because if it was easy to do, then there will be tons of other apps out there that would work.

darkcyber, sorry, but it seems that your post was missing in the middle of all the others.  If you go through the other posts, you will actually see that there is a lot of help here and there clearly are a ton of people who use it.

    1. now then, remember that BlackBerry phones are not the same as the Motorola Q (which was running on Windows Mobile, if I remember correctly).  JavaScript works, but you must make sure his tour on and you may need to change some settings other.  I can't remember where I saw it, but someone has posted a message on the use of their Storm for the display of the webcams.  They said something about having to adjust the parameters of port and udp (sorry, I have not myself this configuration and therefore do not know exactly how do).  Use the search option and you might be able to find the post.

    2. Secondly, it is once again a difference between BlackBerry and Windows Mobile software or Palm OS.  Be happy that you have found a program paying to use.

    3. This can be your impression, but believe me, there are apparently struck for BlackBerry - in thousands tons.  Try to check the new BlackBerry App World and for other programs, check BPlay, MobiHand, Handango, and various other app stores.

    4. do you have a BIS account set up?  You must configure a BIS account and set up your College email there.

I hope that some of these things will answer your questions, or at least points you in the right direction.  In the future, try to use a more descriptive than 'Problems with my Blackberry Storm' title because that will probably draw more people.  And if you get no response, it means one of two things happened - your message is simply missed, or nobody has an answer to your question.  If so, feel free to go back.  Do not react with the message you left as what makes no one want to answer at all (I did because I'm nice and felt bad that the original message had not been addressed, but I know others here who could see this answer and simply walk because of this response).

  • Storm blackBerry Smartphones does not work with hands free Link (in the Honda/Acura vehicles)

Someone else difficult to synchronize their storm to their in their Honda/Acura HFL system?  I don't know where to go for an update (hands free link or Blackberry).  The frustrating part is my curve worked flawlessly...

I SOLVED THIS PROBLEM!  To synchronize the storm to HFL follow the following procedure:

    (1) push button HFL in car

    (2) say "Phone Setup"

    (3) follow the instructions when the car tell you to put the phone in 'discovery' mode, do the following him

    Storm:

    4) click the "Setup."

    5) click "Set up Bluetooth".

    6) press the "Menu" button at the bottom of the screen (next to the "Send" button)

    (7) select "Add Device" from the menu screen

(* 8) it IS IMORTANT STEP: do not click on 'Listen' (as you would to sync with a Bluetooth device), click on "Search"... it must synchronize free hands on the Sytem of link immediately.

The current version of BPS does not support HTML email.  There are other posts that suggest that there is a BPS update in the new year, and which will contain the HTML Help.  But I have yet to see official notice of RIM describing a version or a new service pack.

The current version of BES supports HTML email.

  • Newbee help storm blackBerry Smartphones

Hi, in addition to the newer JDE 4.7.0, what else do I need to have a complete development environment? Do I need a server of Blackberry software also? Would appreciate any help of your gurus out there! Thank you!

    And answers to your questions:

In addition to the new JDE 4.7.0, what else do I need to have a complete development environment? Do I need a server of Blackberry software also?

If you compile your application in JDE 4.7.0 this will only work on Blackberry Storm devices. Because only these devices have device OS v. 4.7.0

There is a rule, version JDE (equal to the version of the RIM API) to less than or equal to the version of the OS device (can be displayed under Options - all).

    You don't need special software.

Just JDE (including device Simulator) and MDS Simulator ESS (to simulate the connection feature and internet electronic mail for Device Simulator)

  • Storm BlackBerry Smartphones new

I've had my storm for a little over a month now and have had some problems. When the phone works well, it's amazing, but I feel like I need some answers. I realize that they probably were all answers here already, but I don't have the time/patience to find if all discussions to find... Any help on this would be much appreciated.

#1 I already scratched the screen a bit, as I expected. Cures? Repairs? AIDS?

#2 the storm seems much slow down and/or freeze? Why? Cure?

#3 any means to improve the battery life? It's decent, but still seems short sometimes.

#4 orientation seems sometimes a little confused or risk of stuck and the screen doesn't flip.

#5 if it goes dead it takes forever to load up and it shuts down the antenna?

#6 the program computer-blackberry jams and does not work very well at all.

That's all... Seems like a lot, but really is not. Love the phone, looking for some answers/solutions to the theses of the little hiccup.

I'll try to answer some of your questions.

    (1) the scratches on the screen is most likely on the plastic screen protector that came on your phone.  Just remove it and all these scratches will be gone.  Your storm screen is very durable, and some people said you don't need coverage of the protection screen.

    (2) if it is slow, you may have other applications running.  Best thing to do is a battery pull and see if things speed up.

    (3) the best way to improve the battery life is to turn off Bluetooth when not in use.  Turn off GPS.  Make sure that you are not on the global network and update network 1XEV.

    (4) if all goes well they will be able to fix this in the future.

    (5) not a good idea to drain your battery to death because that will harm the battery and damage it.  Always load before it affects 20% of life.

    (6) do a battery pull.

Good luck and let us know if one of these suggestions helped.

  • Problems with my Storm blackBerry Smartphones

Hello everyone, I bought a Storm 9500 during a trip to the States and I have problems with it. First of all, he started resetting itself evert 5 minutes so I did a battery pull, but it did not work. Then I tried to soft upgrade and it worked for like 4 days now, it does nothing. I am trying to reflash phone but nothing seems to work... Today, I plugged the phone and after 6 minutes it connected and started to blink but only turned on the lower part of the phone. I would like to know where to send my phone so that it can be fixed cause I really like it and do not want to change. Thanks for any help on this matter. BTW, he is 2 months old

You must call your carrier for tech support and warranty. RIM offers service guarantee by the carriers.

If you bought a used (no carriers in the United States even selling the 9500, Verizon sells the 9530 here in the United States), it will be difficult for you to get warranty service.

Your first and best bet is to call the place where you bought.

In the meantime, I recommend that it seems that the battery could be dead. To do this.

Leave the appliance to charge 2-3 hours and then, always toujours relie connected to the USB cable, remove the battery from the camera a few seconds and plug it back. If it starts - let - the charges to 100% (check the Options > status for the percentage).

If it does not start - try using a wall charger if you're not. If you are connected via USB to the computer, make sure that you have Desktop Manager (or USB device drivers), you can download it below.

Make sure that your USB cable is connected to one of the main rear USB ports of the PC. A USB hub, or USB Monitor port not a USB port on the front of the PC.

    Download Desktop Manager here:

  • Question on the browsers on the storm blackBerry Smartphones

Hello everyone, I have a few questions about web browsers and the storm. If I still want to use a specific browser to a certain website how can I do this? The firefox browser remember passwords and login information? Is this a secure way to hold this info? Are there changes to settings that will speed up the loading of pages for web pages that have not been optimized for mobile devices? Thanks for any help you can provide me with Steve

Hi Steve, I'll do my best to answer your questions.

The main web browser (and one that opens automatically by clicking on links in emails and others) are the BlackBerry Internet browser.  This identification of the browser can be configured in three settings - BlackBerry, FireFox or Internet Explorer.  Usually, it is best to keep it on BlackBerry, but for some sites, it may be useful to define it on FireFox or Internet Explorer.  Make sure that JavaScript is activated for a better experience.

The BlackBerry browser will keep cookies, so you can choose of you connected to the sites if you wish leave (for example, I logged in on the forums here leaves).  This works even if you set your BlackBerry, FireFox or Internet Explorer browser identification.  As long as your phone is not stealing, it is of course (and if your password to protect your device, it is safe anyway).

A trick to speed up the loading of pages is to go to the options of your browser and under General Properties, set the Image quality to low.

Now, the BlackBerry browser is a slower browser, however, he accelerated with updates of the operating system.  If your operator has provided an update for your phone, I recommend that you install it.  If they are not, keep watching for him.  Another method is to try a different browser.  I tried two so far - the Bolt and Opera Mini browser.  Both are much faster than the stock BlackBerry browser and load quickly no optimized pages.  Bolt browser is the fastest.  Note that both of these browser are not perfectly optimized for the storm, so while that pages will load faster, you need to learn to use them properly.  The two should also be able to remember great cookies.

I hope that's what you're looking for, but do not hesitate to ask if you have any other questions!

  • List memo on Storm blackBerry Smartphones

I went for the BB Pearl in the storm and transferred all my info in the storm.  When I opened the memos list of categories opens. From there, how to open my entire list of memos? Thanks for any help

Hello and welcome to the Forums of Support BlackBerry.com.

It's probably because you left it open to your closed this screen filter categories.

On this 'categories' screen, press the ESC key (to the left of the red end call key) and you should return to the screen of memos.

  • A freezing Storm blackBerry smartphones... help!

I'm a convert of Treo in the world of BlackBerry and I thought that the storm is the way to do it.  In any case, after getting the telephone, connected to my corporate email server and downloading some apps, I run on the problem where scrolling and tapping are just frustrating me no end!  For example, when you try to scroll through applications, it just freezes on me and won't do anything.  I can press 'End' and it brings back me to my home screen.  Then, I tried to get into the phone to call Verizon to see if I could get help.  hen tapping/press the 'Contacts' icon, nothing happens.  OK, press harder.  Still nada!  OK, so I'll just type the number manually.  I press the 1 and 5 rises.  I press the 1 and 5 another appears.  I try to change where I am pressing on in the hope that I can get a 1 appears on the screen.  Nothing!  I had 3 seconds to throw this thing out the window.  I know that the BlackBerry is far superior than the Palm Treo but I want to tell you, I was contemplating going back to Palm.  I don't want to give up and hope that there is someone out there who can help out me.  Thank you!!

    Tim

    OK things more to check...

How did you leave apps when you're done? If it's with the back or on the red button, then the app is unable to close properly. Always use the BBKey and "Close" or "Exit" to exit the application when you are finished. Only if you have a reason to keep it running, you must use another method to exit an application. If left to themselves, many apps will remain running, and just like a PC, more you ask him to do at the same time, him more bogged down it will receive.

Something to watch - free memory of the App. Options > memory, check the free AppMemory immediately after a restart of batt-pop. Then watch an it... If he's dropping like a stone, then something is running for consumption.

You can always check what apps are underway into the BBKey - he will always phone, home screen, BBMessenger, Messages and browser running... everything else is an application that has not closed. Be very frugal with allowing applications to stay running.

You can also search the QuickPull... a version is free on the AppWorld. According to a schedule, it will be a reboot which is almost as good as a proper reboot batt-sweater. I have mine work every night at 1130 hours... longer, with the paid version (which I have), it will monitor the memory of the app and ask me if I want to restart when it reaches a set threshold.

The thing we want to avoid is an OS reload... who is the most radical, and we need to reduce the other elements of first possible causation (IMHO).

Give these things a try and report.

    See you soon!

Please help someone, my blackberry storm can not receive files via bluetooth, but I can send, what could be the problem?

Have you tried and went to accept via Bluetooth? Some of the older software on the BBS, you need to go to the media file and say accept via Bluetooth. Consider the two features are already paired.
