  • What graphics card to Optiplex 755?

I read some interesting things lately, like ' players not to buy jobs ', and there is really not much difference between a high-end workstation graphics card and a high-end card gamer, except the stabile, the ability to render OpenGL drivers and the price, price, price!

Well, I like the stability, durability and support of a professional computer, so here I am with an Optiplex 755 w / Wolfedale E8400 Core duo 3.0 MHz, cache 6 MB L2, 1333 bus FS. It came with memory 667 MHz instead of 800, but it seems that 667 DDR must be able to feed the 1333 FSB well enough. I just upgraded the RAM max 4 g w / XP Pro 32-bit. Not too bad a machine, to what I studied put them in a graphics card. I must say that I'm not a gamer, but would like to try a few games, maybe FlightSim. I intend to make a video montage of family videos, and wants to rapid processing and output quality. I was called to splash around to be a hardware geek from time to time.

I knew that slot PCIE-16 version 1.0, so the 1/2 the speed of 2.0. Somehow, I thought that the graphics card would determine the speed, but it was a chimera. Someone told me that PCIE 2.0 cards would not work with a 1.0 interface. (It is also only 1 slot, so no Crossfire or SLI.)

So I started looking on the cards in PCIE 1.0 game more fast, the 8800 GTS 320 M and 640M. However, I am worried about the basic things 2 - editing of the card in the machine and do not FRY machine. The slot itself is marked 75 W. All comments graphics card I've seen recently are beginning to 130W consumption at idle and go up to perhaps 250W + dependent. What gives? Can someone tell me what means the restriction of 75W Optiplex 755 PCIE-16, and how to know what cards he meet.

Also, I came to realize after some time and read some post here the mobo is actually an upside in the Optiplex 755 minitower. If you look at the front of the computer almost all the time - all other Dell and most computers I saw - the motherboard is on the right. In the Optiplex 755 system is on the left! This means that the graphics card must go up the face in the PCIE slot. That in itself is more logical, that hot air would rise out of the heat sink, rather than having trapped under the Board (see solutions of Zalman heatsink of heat). However, Dell Engineers put the PCIE slot at the top of the expansion slot. This means no double height, that are better cooled cards. There is also the heatsink shroud / huge CPU fan and case relatively shallow, making it probably can't get a card of 9 or 10 in in the machine. Goodbye 8800 GTS (unless he can stand up and there is a single height - prob 320Mo - ones that work pretty cool)? Opinion, please!

I found a great deal in a map of the workstation - ATI FireGL V7200 - with total memory 40 GB/s bandwidth and an extension of the removable card, so the length of the map would be good. But guess what, it's the double-height! If only there was a way to hack off the grilled second slot cover, or somehow bend it to fit in the case without voiding warranty! Very frustrating!

It seems that I am stuck with the 8600 GTS, unless someone can tell me otherwise - please! 512 M GDDR3 is important, but bandwidth total memory is the key - 32Gbytes/s, it is at least half of the 8800 GTS.

So the next concern is the heat dissipation. When the heat emerges from the graphics card, if all goes well it will drift away from the CPU and not get drawn by the CPU fan on the heatsink for the CPU! Or elevation to kill my memory cards! What is your opinion on this concern? I have to / can I put an almost opposite case fan the CPU fan? Talk at cross-purposes. What about an expansion slot fan? Below of the graphics card, I don't know how much good it would do.

I found the solution to food. It's a power PC and cooling 500W Dell special edition with 2 metal connectors that are necessary to justify the power supply at the top of the case. I do not think that it is possible to interrupt the power supply comes from the screws? So, which limits your choice of power supply. I had looked at other power supplies, like the OCZ / StealthXStream / 600 watts, but I wonder if that will be suspended correctly. In addition, fan PSU on the bottom of it might be a good thing? -draw the hot air on the top of the graphics card in the power supply? Maybe a bad thing, but the air flow case is generally supposed to be good.

And then, if I get the 8600 GTS, I don't need a new power supply. I found a post here that says than 305 w as I have a nominal 12V 18 a. well, 8600 GTS needs 30A. BTW, the XFX is a good card? -that looks like what I want to come to - guaranteed for life! I guess that EVGA is an alternative, but I can't find an EVGA 8600 GTS 512 MB DDR3 cheap.

I'm looking forward to hear your comments and suggestions on a graphics card - less than $200, please! Thank you.

  • Card mother Optiplex 755 SFF fit in a Dell optiplex 745 Mini-Tower dualcore?

Hello, I might be able to buy a mini-tower Optiplex of second hand, and I would like to install the motherboard etc. my Optiplex 755 SFF.

    Wilting thi made?

The idea is that, with the Mini tour, I can buy a better GPU.

    thanx.

No, it does not.   Of the Board of Directors, the number of slots available, etc. is different.

  • OptiPlex 755 Mini Tower does not, no outdoor lighting

I can not get an OptiPlex 755 minitower to light. It ran quite constantly in a desktop environment on a battery backup/surge protector APC until it failed Monday morning. Then, there was little orange light flashing or continuous. When the computer was turned off, he would not come again. Sorry for the blur, but it's an opportunity information. I found a lot of dust inside, but I've seen much worse on computers

When I push the power button, I get no change: no light in the power button, no diagnostic lights, no noise, no fan movement. When I connect it to power the led "to THE" on the motherboard is provided on a solid yellow/orange for the power supply is to put something.

Is this likely to be a power supply problem? Is it possible to limit other than buying a replacement POWER supply?

    Thanks for any help,

  • OptiPlex 745 Mini-Tower - GFX card options?

    Hi all

I own an optiplex 745 Mini-Tower and I want to install a graphics card. I read the manual and it says that its PCI Express slot is 16 x but I could not find anywhere a response on whether it is compatible PCI-E 2.0 or 3.0. This makes the choice of a quite difficult graphics card. I read somewhere that if I install a 3.0 card gfx, it would be "backward compatible" feel, he would work on a 2.0 interface (isn't that backward compatibility option depends on the entirely gfx card?) Some cards him and others not so I'm not mistaken).

So, this is the case with this model, or it is indeed a 3.0 interface?

    Could I install a 3.0 card gfx or 2.0?

    Thank you.

    jdj9

PCI-E 1.0 or 2.0 are very good.  PCI-E 2.1 or 3.0 may or may not be backward compatible. Some R4 R5 R9 of R7 of Sapphire cards do seem to work in older systems like the precision, etc. 490.  I used an ASUS GDDR5 PCI-E 3.0 GT740 and it worked fine in my 745.

The problem is that the profile for the 16 x power plug changes with version 2.1 and 3.0.  In addition, Sapphire will show they don't support UEFI BIOS systems with their R series cards.

It is also why the older variety of version 1.0 or 2.0 cards often are not seen at all on the bus 3.0 on new computers.

The Asus EAH6450 works very well in all models of Dell, in that I have tried.

Not compatible with USFF or Micro because they have no slots.

The only new parameter is the secure boot must be extinguished and CSM on for some cards to post.

ASUS EAH 6450 SILENT card fits all models of Dell who have a Slot PCI - E, meaning that it does not work with USFF due to no expansion slot. The 6450 a 2 X the number of shaders as the 5450 doesn't.

  • USFF OptiPlex 755 for HDD Caddy/RAILS part number?

I inherited 8 eight Optiplex 755 USFF machines (ULTRA SMALL FORM FACTOR). They lack all their hard drives, and I just realized under the cover that it is just a metal container lack the blue part plastic caddy/rails. I'll have a terrible time trying to find the part number appropriate because everyone online tags their photos with about 10 different 7xx Optiplex models, ranging from unspecified SFF and rarely find USFF.

I know a picture is worth a 1000 words, but if I had one I would probably be able to find the part number. On the 755 Mini Tower there blue bins or carts that drives staple in and then you slide on the machine. The USFF is a set of blue rails that screw in the HARD drive or is it a similar caddy? I have a lot of them (from 755MT and Precision workstations) laying around, but these blue trays do not adapt the 755 USFF.

To clarify a bit more. There is a metal drawer/box HARD drive to staple in. This metal tray screws down on the chassis. It is a small square fan that screws into the metal tray so the part I'm looking for is the part in blue plastic to HARD drive only WITHOUT fan, just the part that securely attaches the disk of the machine.

Thanks for any help. When I entered some of the ST in the Dell website they specify HARD drive that machines shipped with but do not specify the part number for the tray/caddy drive HARD blue.

    Thank you.

Here are therefore 7000 words on this subject. For USFF disc trays are not blue and they are not plastic. Point 4 is called the HARD disk in the tray of PG027. The drive tray has PLASTIC fixing Rails (2 required), USFF: U2836 that keep you in the PG027plateau.

  • How do I know what motherboard I have service tag

I have a number of computers dell, optiplex 380. 780 and 7 optiplex 760 upgrade the processor with four cores, if possible, but I find that each model has 2 motherboard ' possibilities, how do find out what motherboard, I have the service tag, and if they can take the quad cores. As I understand it a motherboard can take single core dual cpu and motherboard, it is possible to upgrade to a quad core cpu

There is no such thing as serial number based on the motherboard.  Serial numbers are unique.

SFF and USFF power supplies tend to be too small.

The NDP or DELL of the Board part NUMBER is on THE Board of DIRECTORS and is not connected either to the

SERVICE TAG which is the same as the serial number.

Carrots or not is TOTALLY NOT related to the service tag Associates to the power supply and other factors.

  • Ask the photo of a Geforce 755ti mounted on a Dell Optiplex 755 MT

    Hello

I took al peek inside my Optiplex 755 MT and space for a better GPU is very narrow. A scale (2 card slots will not fit, I presume.

Someone has a picture of a Geforce 750ti mounted in a 755 MT and would be willing to download it if I can see how the card matches?

    Thanx.

There is no single slot cards.   If one has been in they hacked the support in half or deleted support entirely.  If you remove the bracket on the EVGA models you can use a shears tinsmith to CUT OFF half of the support.  The ventilation openings are blocked, so you may need to drill holes in the case of clear air.  Maps of long with 2 fans DON'T FIT and WILL NEVER FIT in the tower or any other size.

Only a few cards with a few fans to adapt.

  • Adding a second drive to my Optiplex 755

I bought an Optiplex 755 renovated a few months back that came with a floppy (really?). I decided to add a second drive, so I removed the disk and put a Seagate 750 GB drive in its place. I entered the program installation and active the drive, rebooted, went back into the Setup program to verify that the disc was recognized that it was. BUT now, whenever I restart the machine, I have the black screen with the following text:

Replacing the HARD drive is not valid, continued use can lead to long-term reliability problems HDD please press that F1 in you want to continue.

It also gives me the choice to press F1 to continue, F2 to enter setup or on F5 to run tests.

I press F1 and it starts normally.

My question is how or what I do to eliminate this black screen? Because if I restart and let the system is here and waiting forever.

    Thanks for your help.

The DT, SFF, USFF systems REQUIRE specific Western Digital or SAMSUNG drive model. Replacing the HARD drive is not valid is specific to 745 and 755 SFF and ULTRA-COMPACT systems.

The DT, SFF, USFF models will have a thermal message.  The model of the Tower does not care the drive Type.  This is due to "thermal considerations.

Desktop Dell 755 is configured to reject anything but a hard drive Western Digital or Samsung, claiming that it is due to "thermal considerations.  This is for Desktop and SFF and ULTRA-COMPACT models.
