disk grows, even if there is no free space

I have a vmware workstation set up with a virtual machine.  Comments drive continues expansion even if there is free space.  The maximum size for the disc of comments is 50 GB.  He is currently at 31 GB.  Just a couple of weeks, it is only 16 GB.  It is continuning to expand every time I have to install a new software.  But I do not understand this because inside the guest OS, it shows that there are currently 32 GB of the 50 GB for free.  This means that the guest operating system using 18 GB.  While must fit perfectly into a 20 GB VMDK file.  Certainly, it must enter a 31 GB VMDK file.  But I just started to install new software and once again the disk began to expand immediately.  I did a defrag (both inside the prompt and through vmware to defragment the vmdk) and that did not help.  Why would my disc always keep expanding if there must be enough free space inside the VMDK?  I did a shrink before which recovered all the free space, but then he just extends to ridiculous sizes again in just a few weeks.

EACH disk write operation is written to the vmdk file... realize that file erase is also writing on disk!  It works just like a physical disk drive, you just can't see the fluctuation on a physical disk.

It happened once before, but it somehow went away after I restarted my laptop. I restarted my laptop, this time, but it has not worked.

OK, so I just finished put a video together. It consists of a Hypercam 2 record (which means it's a .avi file), a PNG image, text and a song (which is a WMA file).

    ~*~

    I save the file, and then click Publish Movie. Everything goes well until the last step where the video is actually published. The window made a break for a while before you receive the following message;

"Cannot complete the movie publish .

I know there are a lot of free space on the drive on my laptop (it's an Inspiron 1520), and that there is nothing wrong with any of my files. I tried to change places without result. It simply doesn't get it. It would be a great help to me if someone could tell me what is the problem :)

  • "E:\ is not accessible. The parameter is incorrect"results when the access drive E:\. Disk Management displays not filesystem and 100% free space

My drive E:\ was more accessible, even if windows sees it again. I tried to run a chkdsk/r on it and it fixed a bunch of indexing errors, but then got stuck on the 4th check for about 20 hours (it is a 100 GB drive, so I understand that it will take some time, but it's never got around 50% all the time, so I don't think it was anything and I stopped it). I looked at the drive with EnCase by Guidance Software and the directory structure seems to be there, but even when I go through the files there are some files that are not present not that I am sure were there before this event happened. I wonder what might have happened and what I might be able to do on the recovery my files on this disc. I was thinking about the table partitions may have been messed up somehow, but I never really met something like this to know what to do to fix it. In the worst case scenario, I can get another hard drive to transfer files to, but I was hoping there would be a way to just restore it. I can't really afford to lose the data, so if anyone can help, I would really appreciate it.

    Hello DileepHL,

Thank you for your message.  You are able to access this disk on another computer?  If this isn't the case, it is possible that your drive has failed.  Unfortunately, in this case, you must either take the drive to a data recovery specialist or other means to recover your data.  Another option is 3rd party recovery software, you can search it on bing.com or your favorite internet search engine.

I recommend you to visit http://www.oracle.com/technology/pub/articles/wartak-rac-vm.html or http://www.oracle-base.com/articles/11g/OracleDB11gR1RACInstallationOnLinuxUsingNFS.php

They are good examples to configure RAC

In your example: you will only use ASM for DATDISK and OFRDISK.

Prompt compaction is triggered whenever you close OE 100 times.  So if you compact manually, you don't get invited again until you close OE for another 100 times.  Unfortunately there is no way to change this.  Dbx files shall be compacted.  If they are not, they will move on to an enormous size, and then get corrupted, so it is important to pack on a regular basis.

  • Message received from "Disk full" so he was trying to install 2011.exe SRIM. I can see 933 GB of free space when I display the properties of the operating system (c :)) help, please!

Original title: received message 'disk full '. I can see 933 GB of free space when I display the properties of the operating system (c :)) help, please!

    New computer - Dell Inc. 05DN3X (CPU 1), MS Windows 7 64-bit SP1, processor Intel Core i7 930 at 2.80 GHz, 6.00 GB Triple - Channel DDR3 @ 666 MHz, 977 GB Western Digital WDC WD10EALX - 759BA1 (SATA).

    Problem:
Downloaded a program (32 MB) (SRIM 2011.exe) commonly used to work and tried to extract it to a new folder on the OS (C :) - received message 'disk full'.) I can see 933GB free space when I discover the properties of the operating system (c) - Quota is turned off.

Have used the program mentioned above (SRIM.exe) several times before using different operating systems XP to work without problem...
    Help, please!
    THX

Given that this was written in 2011, I'm sure you understood something at this stage. However, the post also has much a views, so I think it might be a persistent problem, so I'll post my solution:

When I copied the file SRIM - 20xx.e in a folder of SRIM-20xx under Program Files, I had a "Disk full" error when trying to extract the files, even though I had a lot of space on my hard drive and without limits. After a bit of messing around, I like the solution is to move the SRIM-20xx folder on the desktop, and then unpack it. After extraction, which leaves you with a lot of seemingly useless files, double-click CONFIGURATION and the installation will begin appropriate. Installation will create a file under Program Files, there will be no need to make things happen later, simply remove the meantime extract the folder to your desktop computer.

  • Cannot use disk utility to create the partition of the free space on the external USB drive.

I have a red 3 TB Western Digital drive in a USB hard drive docking station.

The reader is GPT, and I have two volumes on it (a single volume is "Microsoft reserved", another volume is NTFS).

The other part of my drive is 1.5 TB of free space. I want to create a new partition with free space so that I can put backups Time Machine encrypted external hard disk.

I checked free space on the drive with my Windows machine:

    DISKPART> list disk

Disk ### Status Size Free Dyn Gpt

    -------- ------------- ------- ------- --- ---

    Disk 0 Online 167 GB 20 GB

    Disk 1 Online 465 GB 0 B *

    Disk 2 Online 2794 GB 1526 GB *

    DISKPART> select disk 2

Disk 2 is now the selected disk.

    DISKPART> list part

    Partition ### Type Size Offset

    ------------- ---------------- ------- -------

    Partition 1 Reserved 128 MB 17 KB

    Partition 2 Primary 1267 GB 129 MB

    DISKPART>

DiskPart displays 2 partitions - a 128 MB and the other GB 1267 with 1526 MB of free space.

I took the hard drive of my MacBook Pro running OS X El Capitan 10.11.3 and pulled towards the high disk utility, but for some reason, that it does not resemble the disk utility it is to see the free space, so I can't create a new volume.

    Here are a few screenshots:

I'm a new Mac user. My company recently gave me a Mac, so the first thing I want to do is to create a new partition on this external USB drive to put backups Time Machine figures on it.

In the research I did find a way to do it on a mac computer without erasing the drive and starting over. But you can go to your windows computer and partition the free space of disks. Then use the mac to set the free space as mac os extended journaled. Here's what I found. http://www.PCWorld.com/article/2066191/how-to-partition-a-hard-drive.html the only other way would be to copy the file on the external drive, somewhere, so you can delete it and re partition for windows and mac. Then reinstall windows files. I'm not familiar with windows systems.

  • How can I delete a partition and get all the free space?

I have a partition on my computer, Local C drive and the Local disk D.  C drive is extremely low, free space and disk D is very high with free space. I am trying to delete the partition and have all the free space from D to C. is there someone who can help me maybe?  It would be greatly appreciated!

Download the free Easeus Partition Master of http://www.easeus.com .  Keep in mind that there may be files on D: to restore factory settings, so do not delete if this is the case.

I hope this helps.  Good luck.

  • How free space on the partition system reserved when the usual FSUTIL USN DELETEJOURNAL command does not work?

When you try to make the system images, I found that the system reserved (100 MB) partition can be a problem if it has less than 50 MB of free space.  In my case it was after execution of FSUTIL USN DELETEJOURNAL/d/n and 34 MB free disk space is only 40 MB.  I also tried without the flag/n.

I had just restored the system from an image so I felt comfortable to make new changes.  I deleted the fonts and directories of different language from the startup directory (the directory of fonts took about 10 MB).

I see a file name {hex 64 bit I think} in the System Volume Information directory, which was 32MB in size.  I tried to remove it but no luck.

After you remove the fonts, and the other languages, I had a lot of free space to perform the system image.  I'm not comfortable actually using this image, go ahead yet, but I'm looking for someone who might know what is and isn't OK to do with this partition.  I would have done it 150 MB when I installed everything first if I had an idea I was going to suffer like that on a meager 18 MB.

I get the following error message when I try to start my VM and I don't know why, I have repaired permissions and I have about 50 GB of spare on the partition. It was great to work for a long time and the only thing I can think of, that I have done before, was until I started getting the error message I mounted the BootCamp partition and moved the files into it, then dismantled. I looked towards the top of the topic online and don't have much, (I usually are not) then I came to the experts for help. So, really, I just need to be able to start up in my VM without the error message, THANKS!

This error has nothing to do with Boot camp as far as I know. Your mac partition is running out of free space. To resolve this issue, you must first remove file from Mac partition.

For starters, I wud you suggest to empty the trash., remove files from the downloads folder. delete the old files, movies, music, photos etc... choice is up to you.

Please launch disk utility (/ applications/utilities) and check the free space of Mac HD.
