Displacement of the VM attached to several data stores

ESX 5.1.  I'm moving from one SAN to another.  I have a Windows VM file server that is attached to the "OS" data store which is 100 GB (for the OS, program installation, etc.) and the data store 'Data' that is 500 GB (where the file real stock data is stored).  On the new San, I created new warehouses of data, "New_OS" and "See you."

What is the best way to move my data to the new data warehouses?  I know that I can use storage VMotion to move the virtual computer, but who will attempt to move the 'BONES' and 'Data' to 'New_OS' correct?  (Which of course will not work, since there is not enough space.)  I think that I have to remove 'Data' of the existing virtual computer, move it to 'See you' via a browser data store, move the computer virtual using VMotion, then add "you see?"  This sounds more complicated than it should be.  Am I missing something here?

Thank you.

Am I missing something here?

Yes, it lacks the 'Advanced' option in Storage vMotion which will allow that move you each hard to a data store different... to do this, just follow the screens of Storage vMotion and select the data store, click on advanced and for each virtual hard disk and virtual machine configuration file, select the data store you want.

Take a look at the documentation: http://pubs.vmware.com/vsphere-51/index.jsp#com.vmware.vsphere.vcenterhost.doc/GUID-A15EE2F6-AAF5-40DC-98B7-0DF72E166888.html

Store the configuration of virtual machines and disks files in different places.

one

Click Advanced.

b

For the virtual machine for each virtual disk configuration file, select Browse and select a data store or cluster storage DRS.

c

(Optional) If you selected a cluster DRS for storage and do not use Storage DRS to this virtual machine, select Disable DRS storage for this virtual machine and select a store of data within the storage DRS cluster.

d

Click Next.

I have a problem of my catalogs of PES 10 displacement and the photos attached from my old computer with Windows XP on my new computer with Windows 10.  How can I keep my original photo folders tree arrangement when I restore backups of catalog on the new machine?

The problem arises because Windows 10 is equipped with a new tree structure with new names for many of its branches.  Tree of Windows XP starts to Local Disk (C), and then does the following: Documents and settings, Susan [it's me the user], My Documents, SusanPhotos (the folder that I created that contains my photos) and then several subfolders and subfolders with my photos grouped by theme, for example the Puglia Italy and Italy-Roma.  My new computer Windows 10 has a different tree and different names for a large number of branches from early on: OS (C) [instead of Local Disk (C)], users, Susan, Documents [instead of the old My Documents], SusanPhotos [what I created] and then the subfolders and so on.

Because of the new tree and the new names of the branch, I can't find a way to restore my PES 10 catalogues and photos attached to them to where I want to that they.  What I want to do is put the files from SusanPhotos to the Windows 10 Documents folder so that I find myself with the following tree, essentially the same as what I had on my old machine: OS (C), users, Documents, Susan, SusanPhotos, then the original subfolders with my photos.  Apparently 10 PSE does not allow me to move folders of photos in the Organizer, so that the pictures stay connected.

PES 10 offers 3 options for restoration: Original, personalized and customized, keeping the original structure of the file.  Here's what happens to each:

    (1) original creates new folders with the old names and the structure of the tree, parallel to the tree Windows 10 has instead of inside the tree Windows 10.

    (2) custom with the original structure of the file is the restaurant where I want (within the SusanPhotos) but retains all branches superfluous-instant initial tree of Windows XP, production: BONES (C), users, Documents, Susan, SusanPhotos, Documents and settings [carried over from the old computer], Susan, My Documents, SusanPhotos, Roma-Italy and Italy-Puglia and so on.

    (3) custom (without checking the original file structure box) makes every SusanPhotos but without any organization: OS (C),..., SusanPhotos, Italy-Puglia and Italy-Roma and all other folders at the same level instead of in their original nested groups with subfolders.

The first two methods you end up with a tree that is chaotic with two parallel trunks or a single trunk but with several redundant layers carried over from the old computer.  The third ends with no tree at all.

One solution would be to make a Custom Restore with the original structure of the file and then use PSE10 to move the folders that I would like.  However, AFAIK, PSE10 I cannot move entire folders of photos, only of individual pictures.  With thousands of photos in hundreds of cases, the time required for the movement of individual pictures is prohibitive.  PSE10 allows me to move the catalog folder, but apparently not the folders containing the photos.

The result is that at this time I have no solution to my problem.  Can you help me find a way to restore my photos while keeping their original organization?

One solution would be to make a Custom Restore with the original structure of the file and then use PSE10 to move the folders that I would like.  However, AFAIK, PSE10 I cannot move entire folders of photos, only of individual pictures.

You simply use the 'Files' Panel on the left. Your folder tree appears. Simply, you drag and drop the folder to move with all its subfolders in the desired master file. That works exactly as in Solution Explorer, so be patient, you receive no message of progress until it is completed.

You did a good job to understand the situation. I think that might help you is to understand that changes in the way default folders are created in a different version of Windows can be ignored if you do not use these structure 'default', from the shortcuts to your main folder of the user.

I create a master folder 'My Photos' directly under the C: root.

When I restore, I use the "custom" choice, as you have discovered, I only specify this folder in the restore process, and I completely ignore the default shortcuts to 'Documents' or 'Image '.

  • POS supports several data stores?

I noticed that a limit of 2 TB data store VPD and 8 to VIENNA. Can I create several data stores if I the size of the data more than that?

    Thanks in advance.

    Hello

I Don t think it is possible to go to more than 8 GB in the Advanced edition. I Don t find anything in the documentation to go further than 8 GB.

But if you need multiple data stores, you can go up to 10 devices POS by vCenter.

  • Several data stores?

    Hello.

I create a configuration on my VM project and future document.

I run x 4 company vSphere5 hosts running on a Dell R710 all connected to a Dell EqualLogic PS6100XS for their shared iSCSI storage.

Looking at best practices and not knowing the correct limits of data warehouses... What is the best Setup here. It is better to create a large (7 by TB) Volume and transfer this to vSphere as storage... Or...

Create several data warehouses (each 1 TB in size) for use with Storage vMotion?

    Thank you

    J.

Theres more to it than just the workload, IMO.

You must consider that usually get you slightly better performance (5-10%) with several data warehouses/LUN, simply because there is more available queues.

Also, several data stores means that you have more options to make backups, prioritization, etc.  Finally, you also have more possibilities for reproduction in the future.

I would * not * create a unique 7TB data store.  I'd be more likely to create a smaller data warehouses from 7-10 and broadcast my virtual machines around on them.

  • Relocation of the unusable VCenter Server after data store

I needed to move the VCenter server only US planes of the DataStore has located on SAN1 to B data store located on SAN2 because we were retiring SAN1. After connecting directly to the VMhost which housed the vCenter Server VM, closing the vCenter Server and remove the vCenter Server inventory, I scoured data store A and moved the server vCenter to B data store directory. "After the copy is completed, I added the back inot inventory of vCenter Server, it works, toldi it"I moved"and received an error message indicating the file vCentersrvr.vmdk ' was absent.

A review of the content directory for vCenter data store b shows no vCentersrvr.vmdk, but rather lists a file called vCentersrvr - flat hard. The type of file, the file is listed as "file". I tried to rename this gall and turn on/off the VM, but still no luck. Here are my questions:

    1. Can I save this installation? The original directory no longer exists (it was deleted automatically after the copy of the file).
    2. If I can't save this installation, can I just rebuild a new vCenter Server and Add (2) hosts that are currently managed by the vCenter Server server has failed?

There is another method to recreate the descriptor VMDK files. http://www.phdvirtual.com/VMDKstubgenerator

    The Script:

With the RelocateVM_Task method, it is possible.

    while("running","queued" -contains $task.Info.State){
         $task.UpdateViewData("Info")
         sleep 5
    }

BTW, you can use the cmdlet Set - hard disk to a virtual disk that is specific to a data store.

But as I understood what is not possible in your environment.

Here, while querying how can I give more relevant for the text1 Text2 column as column?

I gave an example below. I added some data to your example. You had tags and columns duplicated in your multi_column_datastore, so I fixed it those. I removed the newline delimiter and added a section with sections of field group and add this section to the index settings group. Allows you to search in each section of field and apply different fats. You can apply weights by multiplying by a value entre.1 and 10 or several times multiplier to reduce or increase the score for a particular section.

Ah yes, I forgot about it.

You can fool ODI by changing the logical length of the column in the data store in the model.

In this way the I$ table will have a length of more than time and you won't have the problem.

  • appstack in several data stores

    Hello

I have 2 bouquets of esxi with no storage shared between them. Each cluster of esxi has its own shared data store.

In order to avoid the creation and the maintenance of the 2 instances of the App with their own appstacks Volume Manager, I would like to create and configure 1 appstack in Volume 1 App Manager and store it in the data of each cluster store.

Any thoughts if and how this is possible?

    Jan

This can be achieved with a single App Volume Manager, but you must replicate the AppStack to the second data store. The located AVM storage in the second store of data and tab import Volumes what appstacks and you will then see two appstacks of two data warehouses. Assign the two appstacks, and when a user is on a cluster that they will have the Appstack of the data store in this cluster. Without shared storage, you will not be able to circumvent not not using 2 Appstacks.

I remember my days with vSphere 4 x that I had to rename a virtual computer once.   But, the vmdk/vmx partner, files etc. and even the record in the data store has not changed.   However, when I did a Migration of vStorage in another store of data with the virtual machine also migrate to a new host when it was finished... all sync'd up.   or that's how I remember it.

But, I'm now told my my virtual colleague that rename a virtual machine and to migrate to vStorage and VM migration to a new host WILL NOT synchronize the naming and lables.  is that correct?  I am almost sure that it worked in vSphere 4.

It was behavior that was introduced in vSphere 5. It has since been resolved in Vcenter Server 5.0 Update 2 and 5.1 Update1. See the article I've linked below:
