Divs VS tables

I'm designging a site for my business and Dreamweaver learning as I go. The site I am building will have a quote from video, catalog, produced a vast and contact forms. I had a training in Dreamweaver and CSS in a classroom and online tutorials, all kind of teaching things a little differently. I'm trying to piece everything together to ensure the best way to actaully go on my construction site.

Can someone clarify and/or describe the differences and benefits of building a site with some divs only, or using tables?

Is never beneficial to build your site with Tables and the Divs?

With the help of css (what you call divs) available to your page as opposed to tables not only maintains the markup to a minimum but makes it also much easier for you to maintain your site. For example, with a tag div, you can have a minimum of something like

and then the div style in an external style sheet. The tables are more complex:

. And it's a simple table. When you start the pull-out tables, your markup gets very crowded and more confused. I know. I create websites with tables at the time pre - css. In addition, with formatting CSS, your pages will download faster and better for search engines.

A table is not for page layout (with a few rare exceptions). The use of a table is for tabular data. For example, you can use a table to display your products in your catalog. If you use a table, don't forget to style with css instead of using deprecated html tags.

I read articles saying that any good programmer these days should shun tables as if they were riddled with viruses of plague. Thanks for your well worded comments. As for me, I do not use liquid or flexible layouts (if they are the same thing). I find unpleasant liquid layouts for a variety of aesthetic reasons.

CSS is not a huge thing to learn, but without concise help books and forums, it was not a walk in the Park. Tables, I find it too difficult and unruly and as I mentioned in my post to Murray, they do not provide the appearance that I prefer.

I appreciate, however, the points raised in your arguments and the comment left by David. You two had time to explain EXACTLY what I was asking. Thank you two for the effort.

Why export only divs vs tables?

I have a confession to make. I'm still stuck in the world of export of my Web sites out of photoshop in table formats.
Please could someone explain why I should export as divs instead of tables?
Also, is there a way to export a project where each layer or layer groups is a DIV, to avoid cutting the PSD file?

Honestly, you don't know what you've been missing out on! Don't bother with the slice function ever. Quite useless, and its existence in Photoshop should be completed as soon as possible (in my opinion).

Help please: how to cancel the divs PA Tables

I think I did something stupid! I was playing around in Dreamweaver and I was looking under the tabs > modify > convert > Tables to AP divs. So I clicked on "Tables divs PA" (just to see what he would do) THINKING than what I would have done it I would be able to "undo" - well no, I could not cancel. The page is titled "RequestOrder. Then I opened another page, called "RequestInspection" and it has also seen this page! I opened another site and all pages, titled 'Application [any name]' also has the same effect! All pages that have no "Request" in the title were not conducted.
Can someone please tell me what I did wrong and how to cancel it please? When I look at the pages in the browser, everything seems normal. But I want all of this to go back to the way it was.
I learned my lesson - do not just click on something just to see what he does... usually I don't get in a situation where I can't cancel something.

I use a database of XE 11.g. I have the following query, and it works. It generates the XML code for an email I send. I need to make a change. I think I need a group so I can can insert empty lines when the use_date_time field has changed in the output.
I put comment where I think that the Group By clause must go. When I try a comment this line and run the query, I get an ORA-00979: not a GROUP BY expression error.

I don't know what you want, either.

In pure SQL, you can use the GROUP BY ROLLUP to produce an additional line (called a Super row aggregate) at the end of each group.

However, given that you are using PL/SQL and stopping after each line, it is simpler test a change of value at that time here. (As a general rule, you want the back-end to retrieve data and nothing else. How do you present this data is best done by front end.)

For example, that you want to add a couple of
items between different values of use_date_time:

Attempts to display the release of jQuery to simulate a table - need help

using javascript for the application database that brings back a result of 10 or 20 results. I am trying to simulate a tabular presentation for the result, but it does not work well. Show the lines - but not inside the table as shown below and eventually the date above display table headers - not after the headers...

Embedded CSS are generally deleted emails and will not work.

Use nested tables and don't make your primary table not exceeding some 600px wide.

How/where can I insert code (which I have), so this extra tab is outside the bounds of this table? Or y at - it a way to define the tab off the table in this table?
I'm quite comfortable w/CSS, but setting-up/organize the tables/rows/cells in HTML is more difficult.

Just so that you know, resolution has nothing to do with it. Browser window width is the variable of the device. A given page will look the same on ANY resolution until the width of the browser window is kept constant.

CSS, DIV and editable regions

Hi all

I am having trouble about a fairly simple dreamweaver model in combination with an external css file. For design purposes, it should be all done using DIV (without tables).

That's what I am looking for: page 80% width, centered:

1 (editable) left header - the header right

2 menu

3 content (editable)

4 footer

It is particularly important that the content (3) can be changed WITHOUT interfering with the other DIV or anything else. Also, the left of the header (1) must be editable, but it is only text or banner or so.

I really hope that someone can help me here, because after hours of research, I'm kindof see letters, no words more ;-)

Width of the column label on css bar graph plugin

Hi all
Relatively new to the APEX. Using the version 4.2.4. I copied the CSS bar graph plugin which is used in the Bug Tracker demo app in my application and who uses it. I'm very happy with the results except for one thing - the column label. The label is truncated. Is there a way to adjust the width of the column label in the table so that truncation does not or dressing it? Please see screenshot. Thank you in advance.

Add the following CSS to replace the rule of the Inline CSS property page to extend the space allowed for labels:

Commas in data causing problems in Selectbox Bind

Hi guys, nuts will try to understand this...
I use a function within a CFC to dynamically fill the 3 boxes with data which works very well...
The problem is, whenever one of the drop down menus of the database contains a comma (for example, as in the expression PILOT), the page generates an error to tie, or the service box fills as white...
This happens only on data containing a comma... I tried to use CFQUERYPARAM in the query, but that makes no difference in this regard.

Boxes hosted Eloqua form of fill?

I created a simple that has 2 boxes on it (hosted in Eloqua). When I select the check boxes and click on submit I get an email that brings back me to the form. The boxes are not pre-load.
But if I check the source, that the values are 'on' if I checked and 'off' if I don't check them. How to check or uncheck on the page of the actual shape?

I can only imagine it means that I have imported something, or imports of js, I've done are different versions of those used in the SampleApp v406.
