Do without the Organizer?

Hi fans of the elements.

I'm pretty familiar with Premiere elements 3 and Photoshop at the beginning, but have just started using version 10 of Premiere Elements and Photoshop Elements and so far have found the confusing Organizer and wonder if it is necessary to use at all.

If you keep your files multimedia, well organized into folders and subfolders on your hard disk and set preferences for scratch disks, hiding, preview files, etc., why would you use Organizer?

We can easily avoid using it?

Are the entries in the links of the organiser, rather than duplicate files?

If you find a video file or in the Organizer, you can follow it in Premiere Elements or Photoshop. That is to say, find a project using this file, rather than opening a new project, by default it is the process when you click to "fix"?

Regards, Phil

Phil,

In about 5 years, I've never used Organizer, other than to clean it out several times, for projects that have been completed.

I do like you do and organize my assets on my system. Also, for each project, create a folder under the folder structure root of the project and for the assets, copy all the inventory files to the appropriate subfolder, for example Audio, video or still Images. Then, when the project is finished, I can just delete record of this project, and all subfolder are deleted with it.

Other than to answer questions on this forum, organizer is launched on twice a year.

For my cataloguing, I use ThumbsPlus, or Adobe Bridge of my Production Studio.

You should be very well, and I am reassured to see that I'm not the only person who does not have too much to the Organizer.

Good luck

  • Adobe offers just the PES 11 editor without the Organizer?  I use Lightroom to manage my photos.

I have no use the organizer but use Lightroom 4.  However, I want to upgrade to PES 11 without install or pay for the Organizer.

The Organizer is an integral part of the installation and the coding of the PSE. After installation, you can skip the organizer and just use the editor. What I do... 4.2 LR is my dam and raw converter, and any further changes I send pictures through to the PSE11 Editor.

The price is what it is... includes the organizer and editor and there is no way to separate these 2 components, and therefore, there is only the price of upgrade or new pricing for the program as a whole.

  • without tab expansion in the Organizer

I newly installed PSE14 and you have edited a dozen photos to experiment. I saved edits in version sets.  I don't see tabs for expansion to reveal original and change as I used to have using PSE8 when I go to the Organizer. Am I missing some subtle option?

Use the shortcut Ctrl D to move in the new "Adaptive" view to the old "detailed view".

  • Recommendations for the Organization of the disk image?

I am moving in Aperture to LR and looking for general comments on the Organization of the image before you start the migration. Since the opening, I will export edited JPEG version final (with metadata), the image of origin (without metadata), which is usually a RAW or TIFF file. I want the original version, in the case where I want to re - edit in LR, while most of the images will never hit again. I intend to place the images in the folder structure as described below and use the import option 'Add' to keep the pictures in the files when importing to the RL. Records will be organized by "Year" with subfolders for files 'Final' and 'Original '. The hierarchy looks like this:

    Folder "Images".

    > file "1983".

    > File "final".

    > JPEG 1

    > JPEG 2

    > etc.

    > File "Original".

    > TIFF

    > TIFF 2

    > etc.

    > file '1984 '.

    > File "final".

    > JPEG 1

    > JPEG 2

    > etc.

    > File "Original".

    > TIFF 1

    > TIFF 2

    > etc.

This body will allow me to easily find the original file in case I needed to re - edit an image (the original and final images have different file names). Will there be a major drawback in the use of this method of organization? For example, it seems that the images can be stacked if they reside in different folders.  I thought 'stack' the original and final versions, but discarded the idea for other reasons. However, I'm not sure if I will create other problems by using a folder like this system.

Many of my images are scanned family photos dating back to 1880, kind of organization per year seems to be a good choice for me. I use keywords to group events in the year (1983, 1983 b, etc.). I'll create smart collections using keywords for the display, I don't need a folder structure based on events.

Otherwise, I could use the import options 'Copy' or 'Move' and let the LR to organize files. I don't know how the default LR organization works (in "import session or date?). I suspect that it is not simply place them in a single folder.

I appreciate all the thoughts about the proposed organization. I prefer to learn from mistakes of others rather than mine! It is quite possible that the good answer to my question is "it does not matter."

    Thanks David

In my opinion, the only thing that works reliably is a simple year-> Date structure. Another thing is just a waste of time and doesn't complicate your life. It is the structure that Lightroom does by default when importing. It is simply:

    2015

    2015-01-01

    2015 01-02

    etc.

This greatly simplifies organization because it is always consistent and allows you to easily backup or move folders to external hard drives if your a resident fills up too.

It is unnecessary to have initial and final records. You only need the originals. Any edited image, you need is exported a lot faster since Lightroom when you need so you can make the size and format you need, when you need and it is much easier to find the desired image in Lightroom quickly to scroll through the folders in the Finder Explorer / in any case. The key is really well-organized metadata as dj says. If you the keyword you can find something quickly. Finding accurate and such dates is also trivial using the filter bar.

That said, Lightroom doesn't really care how you organize your originals so do what best suits you.

  • How to add videos from the Organizer

    Hi all

I bought Adobe Premiere 14 items yesterday and I have a few basic questions. I used to edit my videos using Studio of Gopro. The first stage, there was select it pieces of videos to be converted and used. Because I use .mp4 directly in Premiere Elements, conversion is not necessary more (thankfully). However, I would like to select parts of the videos to be added in the Organizer, rather than integers videos. The reason is because I want to only sometimes, like 4-5 seconds to 2 minutes video. It is very important, because I use dozens of big videos for each project. If the videos are not cut in the Organizer, I must look these small parts in each video whenever I want to use them.

Shortly, what I want is: cut videos, then add the Cup on the organiser version.

My temporary solution is to cut and convert videos using studio GoPro and then using the clips cut as normal videos in the first.

    Thank you

    Mourade Porto.

You cannot add video cut to the Organizer without exporting first of all of the elements.

I stick with Gopro Studio and import the cineform files ready.

First, in PSE14, the default value in the navigation area is displayed in mode 'adaptive grid. The navigation area is filled with images without text. You can switch to view "detailed" with the shortcut Ctrl + D. Allows you to see small icons for version sets, fireplaces, and albums. This mode also allows you to collapse or fold out versions or the batteries.

The second thing to keep in mind is that in the Organizer, the only way to create games 'version' to select this option when you have recorded a version. If you save a Variant without this option, it is too late for the set of the version. The solution is to 'stack' of the original version and edited together.

    2. If I use the majic selection tool when you change a photo I can't do the "mobile dotted disappear after I'm done with the editing?... how to get out of the moving dotted line after that I use to select something on a photo?...»

    Thank you!..

Try the Ctrl + D shortcut (even shortened, but in the editor instead of the Organizer...)

When you install a new version of the items, you are prompted to update the current catalog. Creating a new catalog with the data in the old. The new catalog has the same name as before and can be opened in the new version, the old catalog is unchanged, but renamed with a suffix-1 can be opened in the old version without any intervention on your part.

If you do agree to the conversion prompt, you can do it later from the Catalog Manager; same for the other catalogues.

Just be careful what you do in a catalog are ignored by the other, they cannot be updated by the other. This means that you will need to choose which version of catalog to choose to manage your files.

In addition, I don't see a way to use PSE12 catalogs to edit in the PSE14 Editor.

  • mismatch icon in the upper left corner of the thumbnail in the Organizer. With the help of 14 elements on windows 10. what it means?

I have an "icon of mismatch in the upper left corner of the thumbnail in the Organizer. I use 14 elements on windows 10.  What does mean, how can I get rid of him. Should not be there. I'm looking to take pictures without a beacon when it arrives?

No match icon when you view the result of a search is here to tell you that a particular element in a stack or a version does not match the search criteria, while the other batteries/versions correspond. For example, they have not the same classification by stars or tags.

  • Where can I find my original photo after editing to the organizer and the saiving it

I am brand new to photoshop elements.  I edited a photo in the editor and saved with a different name.  Now, I can't find the original image.  What happened to him?

When you work in the Organizer in PSE13, by default you will see a display of thumbnails where each thumbnail is enlarged without text, name of file or details.

It is a new view in version 13. You can switch the display mode to the old vision "detailed", where the tile is smaller, but indicated with the file name and details if you have enabled this option in the menu "view". To move, use the view menu or the shortcut Ctrl D.

When you have edited a photo of the Organizer, the new image you created is linked to the original, they are in a "set" version Only the most recent version is displayed by default. When you have switched to the 'detailed view', there is a small triangle on the right of the thumbnail. Click on it, and all versions will be displayed next.

    Is that what you want?

If you have created a set of version, a small icon should appear on the top of the page thumbnail even country in no detailed view.

  • No thumbnails of AVI files in the Organizer

My AVI video clips do not thumbnail display in the PES 11 Orgazizer.

Here's what I observed that I was this troubleshooting:

    The files are MJPEG.

When I double click on it in the Organizer window, I get audio, but no video.

If I open the file for editing in the elements of Prime Minister, the thumbnail of the video appears in the assets of the project and the video plays correctly in the editor of elements of Prime Minister.

If I double click on the file in Windows Explorer, they open in the Version of Quicktime 7.

Thumbnails for files appear in windows Explorer when I navigate to the folder they are in.

I selected an EPS file, choose "export to the new file" and the file I created by the practice which showed a generic Quicktime icon without the thumbnail in windows Explorer. " When I double click on this file it plays correctly in Quicktime format.

Select "Update thumbnail" has no effect.

Thumnails are corrctly .mpg, .mov and .mp4 files types list.

Each have ideas of what is happening with the organiser which may cause this beavior or is this a limitation of PSE Organizer. What is the point of having the video to support Organizer if I can't see the video without opening it in the editor of elements of Prime Minister?

I provided the 'systems' Info if that helps anyone.

  • Can I save the Organizer, move my photos and always access to post-secondary studies?

I backed up my catalog to an external hard drive last night and there were about 20 disconnected files.  I wasn't able to locate so I allowed the back upward to continue without them.  Do you know what are the consequences for that?

In addition, many of my pictures are on my C drive, and several are on the external hard drive.  My catalogue included photos of these two places. When I move the rest of my photos from the C drive of my computer to the external hard drive, the catalogue will always be able to access or will I have to backup everything again?

My goal is to free up space on my computer, so PSE will stop freezing.  I am interested in fact at this moment can enter all my photos in the organizer and labeled.  I'll change them later I have started creating digital scrapbook pages.

Can someone tell me if how I go about this is correct?

    Thank you

Thanks Ken.  I have supported all my external hard drive, but now I think I rather just move everything there and reminds me of my photos of the HD post to free up space on my C drive.  Is this possible?

created by photodrawken in Photoshop Elements - discover complete discussion

PSE allows you to back up your catalog, actual photos as well as the catalog (database) is saved. When you restore from a backup, you can specify where inbound pictures will be placed. Ken

  • Help please with the Organizer

I just bought Adobe classroom in a book to learn first Elements 9, but I hit a brick wall in the first chapter.

The statement is to start organizing and choose file > get Photos and videos > files and folders.  However when I run the Organizer it is without tab at the top showing file, edit, search, view, window, help.  The screenshots in the book show that these should be present.

Can someone please tell me what I'm doing wrong?

It is impossible to say without knowing more about your computer and operation - or at least to see a screenshot of your interface.

Have you tried to maximize the program?

Also, do you see the small arrows at the top right of the interface? On some configurations and sizes of screen, the menus appear when you click on these arrows.
