.doc file messed up in Windows Mail

I received an attachment in windows mail which is a .doc file.  When I tried to open it, it is all messed up.  There are just a bunch of symbols and letters are all foires.  Can I do to solve this problem?

You have Microsoft Word installed? A .doc file is a Microsoft Word file and you need the program to open it. Looks like you're opening in Wordpad or another program that can not read MS Word files.

If you don't have Word installed and don't want to buy it, you can:

1. download and install the free MS Word Viewer from Microsoft. This will allow you to view MS Word files, but not to change them.

http://www.Microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=3657CE88-7CFA-457A-9AEC-F4F827F20CAC&displaylang=en

2. download and install the suite free OpenOffice which will open/read/write program formats Microsoft Office.

I searched high and low for a solution to my problem. Nothing that I find works for me. I used Windows Mail in the past but had problems, but I hope they have been corrected. I moved to Thunderbird and now I want to move my emails to WM. I can't find something that works. I have several email addresses in Thunderbird which is separate files, some people have folders within them.

Is there a simple solution on how to import my mails from Thunderbird to Windows Mail?

You can upgrade to Windows Live Mail; Windows Mail has been abandoned with no other work for him (and probably has the same issues you encountered earlier).  WLM uses sets of folder for each account, not mising as with WM.

  • How to open file Outlook.pst in Windows Mail

I bought a new computer using windows vista and I had saved my old e-mail account .pst on my external hard drive. How this open in Windows Mail to see the old emails.

Windows Mail cannot import a .pst file when Outlook is installed on the
    Vista computer.

You can install Outlook, copy the PST on the Vista computer, open the .pst file
with Outlook, then you can import into Windows Mail.

    Or,
If you have installed on an XP Outlook computer, import the .pst data in
Outlook Express, copy the .dbx files and file .wab to the Vista computer,
and import it into Windows Mail.

Try searching *.eml and make sure you include hidden files and folders in the search parameters.  See also here for the Organization of store message (www.oehelp.com/backup.aspx#wm).  You should be able to use the browser to go to the directory of sent items under the directory of local records and the actual messages will be located there.  It may be useful to compact and repair the database (see www.oehelp.com/WMUTil/) and make sure that everything in the folder, you saw the value. • How much hard drive space I use for my files stored in my Windows Mail program?

I received 2 spam/phishing messages, telling me that my Windows Mail storage limit is 20 GB and I got past it and must 'click here' the re - validate my mailbox... "run of course put correct data to increase the size of mail... failure to do so may result in losing your account within 24 hours.  The message contains errors of grammar and the missing words. Although it is an obvious scam, it raises the question of how to do to check what storage capacity that I used for my e-mail program I could not find the answer.  I can only be limited by the size of my hard drive, but I want to know how much of my hard drive is used by my emails stored - files I created to hold the emails I want to keep.

    Hello

I suggest you to follow the steps below and check if it helps:

The default folder location where Windows Mail store messages is:

    C:\Users\ (your user name) \AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Mail\Local records

    a. right-click on Windows mail

    b. select properties and discovered a folder size

    Hope this information is useful.

  • My messagestore Windows Mail file has been damaged.

My file that I use to store emails from Windows Mail has been altered somehow. It is under \AppData\Local\Microsoft\WindowsMail\WindowsMail.MSmessagestore

I can not get the Import Wizard to find and use the file above. I can locate if I go through my computer, but when I click on the file it just open Windows Mail.

Is anyway to fix this corrupted file? Or even just to rename so I can get in to see saved emails?

    Help! Any ideas?

    TIA!

The WindowsMail.MSMessageStore file is only a database that contains information about the messages.  It contains no messages.  The messages are in directories named after the names of folders in WinMail and are stored individually as eml files.  So if you are looking for messages, search *.eml.  Seewww.oehelp.com/backup.aspx for background.

  • Backup Windows Mail .eml files

I have found and saved my files of .eml to C:\Users\Bob\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Mail\Local folders a few months ago, however, when I try to save it again, I'm not capture my most recent emails. The e-mail messages were all abandoned in the respective records and are 'there' while I'm under Windows Mail, however, a lot of the newer files are NOT in the directory 'Local Folders' hard disk. Guidance on where to find them? Thank you! Bob K.

Have you copied all the files in the folder "Windows Mail" and did you do immediately after as a transmission / reception with Windows Mail closed?  That's what I'd do.

  • What is the difference between Windows Mail and Windows Live Mail?

    Separated from this thread.

I realize that starting from 7/11, Windows Live is more effective on my Windows Vista system.  I understand that and I have since beengetting my Hotmail acc't workingusing only Windows Live Mail.  This am, I tried to create a new account hotmail for my friend, but we couldn't get it to accept and just stopped trying.  Now, today, I can not send any e-mail because "you cannot configure Windows Mail to use a web (HTTP) that is running Windows Vista based."  WHA?  I managed somehow to get into Windows Live when I tried to get a new account hotmail for my friend?  Also, I also receive a message from the Assistant on "you want to want to leave, you have not created your new account?  (probably not the exact wording).  In response, I clicked Yes and no, and still I can't get out of this Windows Live.  I would like to purge my system of this needless to Windows Live and only use Windows Live Mail.  Can someone help me to do this?  (My knowledge of couputer is at a basic level, so hopefully it won't be too difficult to understand.)  Thank you!!!

(With the HTTP mess), it seems Windows Mail and Windows LIVE Mail are two very different things.

I am not a technician, but try to stay up-to-date. I have known that Vista sucks because it came out, but it surprised me, never have used before today. So I wonder...  Windows LIVE Mail can be installed on a Vista unit, and if so he would remove the format HTTP bug? It's all THE Microsoft, after all! On my PC with Windows 7 HP with complete Essentials, including Live Mail (for PC, to avoid confusion with the version online), I have not had any problems to Hotmail at work, send or receive. GMail also, no problem, the only thing I did NOT like about Live Mail is that it doesn't have the handy function "Sweep" that I love, I just go online to own things very quickly. With only Windows Mail (which I assume is supplied with Vista), it won't let me even try to set-up Hotmail/Outlook account. It's stupid, because like I said it's all EM!

    peace ~

Windows Mail is the e-mail that comes with client program and a part of Windows Vista. Windows Live Mail is a program available for free download; It is an e-mail client, the timing, the Manager contacts, aggregator and newsreader at a single feeding program.

Until a few years ago, it was possible to synchronize the Hotmail accounts with e-mail clients on Windows XP and Vista (Outlook Express and Windows Mail respectively) using WebDAV over HTTP protocol. This method has been deprecated after a long sequence of initialization in September 2009. Before that date, POP3 access has been made available for all Hotmail accounts. At any time it was not possible to access Hotmail email clients accounts. There is no bug involved here, nor in HTTP format or anything else.

Windows Live Mail is built to use a different former WebDAV protocol; DeltaSync protocol allows the synchronization of e-mail folders, contacts, and calendars between client and server.

You may be able to download the installer for Windows Live Mail 2011 of this page: How to install Windows Essentials while offline? Do not try to include Windows Live Writer or Messenger in the installation; None of them will work and you can gum up toward the top of the entire installation Essentials if you do. It may be better to stick to one mail at first. Windows Live Mail 2011 is the latest version which runs on Vista.
