I suspect that the unresolved symbol is ambient. What distribution, gcc c and c ++ runtime are installed? This symbol is contained in the libnpc.so shared object when I run nm on ASM which is supposed to load.

    We are all ONE!

I tried some of the solutions that offered you, but I think what was my problem was caused by the presence of the index on an external hard drive and when the computer has been restarted the drive letter of the USB drive was not the same.  If I remember well, it was a problem that I wasn't yet able to rebuild the index.

I now have the index on my hard C at the level of the root drive.  I was about to point to the other half of a 16 GB flash drive which is also USB, but Windows Vista Home Premium does not only because it appears that are considered removable flash drives, but external USB drives are not presented in this category.

Currently I have about 74 000 items indexed.

  • Search service Windows fails to start with error-2147218174

Windows search has stopped working for my Outlook emails and other areas of the system, I went into the service panel and tried to start the Windows Search Service.  He was able to start with the error 2147218174.

My first question: what does this number mean?  This number gives a clue as to the cause?

I tried SFC, but system files are ok.

I ran the store search & index, but who could not fix, because the service does not start.

A discussion for a similar sounding problem, Microsoft asked a user to set a may be corrupt user profile by copying to a new.  But this has not fixed the problem for this user, so I probably shouldn't waste time with this step.

Windows system event log contains the following entry that could give an additional hint:

    DCOM got error '1053' attempt to start WSearch service with arguments "" to start the server: {9E175B6D-F52A-11D8-B9A5-505054503030}

Around the time this problem started to happen I upgraded a data disc to a hard drive different and changed the drive letter of this data.  Could he have mistaken the search services with the existing database of index and somehow prevents the service to start?

By chance I came across a possible solution.  I went to "Indexing" / Advanced Options / rebuild the Index and now the Windows Search Service shows that it is "started".

I am surprised that I have not read this suggestion on the forums of Windows support in response to questions from the other user has the same problem.

It will be interesting to see if it works in the long term...

    Hi Russ,

    1. When was the last time it was working fine?
    2. Did you the latest changes on the computer?
    3. You are able to start the service manually?

I suggest that you try manually start the service Windows search and check if it works.

    (a) click Start type services.msc in the search box, and then click OK.

    (b) in the Services (Local) list, right-click Windows Search, and then click Properties.

    (c) if the drop-down list Startup type is set to the value off, select Automaticfrom the drop-down list Startup type and then click OK.

    (d) click thefile menu and then click exit.

If fails it above step then check out the link below and run the fixit from microsoft tool available.

  • Windows Search service does not (Windows 7)

    I am running Windows 7 64 bit.
Whenever I try to search that I am asked to turn on indexing, and I do.
Because it is a recurring event, I studied further in indexing options.
Indexing options said "indexing does not work" and and only allows me to enter the advanced options.
Automatic troubleshooting futher gives me error measage "Windows Search service does not..." "Not fixed".
I checked the services and tried to force start this service and get "error 3: the system cannot find the path specified."

Can someone help me with this service?

Security of Windows 7 is a PIA and what my problem was. "Indexing does not' and my inability to start theWindows Search service has persisted despite all these tips above and much more.

When I went to C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Search\Data and took possession of it (http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/add-take-ownership-to-explorer-right-click-menu-in-vista/), I was able to restart the Windows Searchservice. Subsequently, indexing ran and worked.

We need the value of the securities of the ProgramData (C:\ProgramData) directory in order to stop this _ to interfere with the installation of programs and, often, the execution of programs and services. Right-click on C:\ProgramData and select Security, then the set of permissions to allow all permissions (http://www.blogsdna.com/2159/how-to-take-ownership-grant-permissions-to-access-files-folder-in-windows-7.htm) and the problem disappeared. (Note C:\ must be path of your window or use your default root.)

Thank you Microsoft Support for your irrational, frustrating security measures and the fact that your support team has no idea. You have not been able to write a user friendly OS from XP and probably since MSDOS. Too bad I hate Apple more than you.

6 hours of BS to understand this.

I hope it works for you.

  • Windows Search service stopped, will not start! Help!

    Operating system: Win7 HP 64 x

Recently, I noticed that when I open the Start Menu and type in the search bar, no file or folder won't show upward, when they came the night before. I checked my services and the Windows Search service is stopped. I'm trying to start and get an error; checking the event viewer, it gives me an error "access denied". I also get the same error when you try a "net start wsearch" from an elevated command prompt.

Yes, I have all the permissions. Yes, I'm administrator. No, the system restore does not help. I can't figure out for the life of me. D:

    Help, please!

... I don't know how, but I checked Services.msc again and the service started somehow. So, uh, Detective Conan, I guess.

  • Indexing is running do not, the Windows Search service have also failed to run

Having a few issues with Win 7 Enterprise edition & serach Outlook 2007 work on a couple of office machines.

I did a little research on Google and found solutions that have worked for many did not work for me.  Here is a list of few I've done and the mistakes that I'm still trying.

The main problem is in Outlook.  If I try a search, I get the error "search results may be incomplete because items are still indeced. Click here for more details. "Search specific 124349 remaining items in the items box mailbox Spo 124977 remaining in any of the boxes to open letters. Using the drop-down menu in the search box and selecting search options, to the title of indexing, mailbox - OPS, if I check this box, I get another error, a problem when trying to change the data files to be indexed. some of these changes may not have been recorded.

-Go to indexing in the Panel Options, the button change is grayed out.  Enter in the advanced, reconstruction (all other options are greyed out) reconstruction seems to have no effect.

-C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Search\Data - strange events in this folder. Many solutions to state that there should be 2 files here, Application & Temp.  Initially, after the 2 files in this folder appear.  After about 5 seconds, they both disappear.  If I try and create the folders (I took possession of the ProgramData folder with lots of Perms) it fails showing the item was not found, unable to find this point, this is no longer in C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Search\Data

-Services - Windows Search service is not running.  I tried to restart and get this error: Windows could not start the service Windows search on the computer locally, Error 1067: the process terminated unexpectedly.

-Programs and features - I deleted the component windows Windows Search, restarted, re added, rebooted and still no success

-Regedit - SetupCompletedSuccessfully key has been set at 0, removed, readded working again now.

Does anyone have any other suggestions rather than a reconstruction.
