As a result of one of these points, a possible culprit would be an extension. If you prefer a little troubleshooting before using Refresh...

You can view, turn off and often remove unwanted extensions or unknowns on the page modules. Either:

    • Command + shift + a (Windows: Ctrl + Shift + a)
    • "3-bar" menu button (or tools) > Add-ons

In the left column, click Extensions. Then, take a critical look on the list on the right side. All extensions are optional. When in doubt, turn off.

  • I can't change the search engine bar awesome.

I use Firefox 29 Windows 8.1. I had to reinstall Firefox because of other problems, and I reinstalled my Add-ons. I wanted to add DuckDuckGo to my search box, so I reinstalled an extension to get the extension made DDG the default search engine in the search bar and so also in the Awesome bar. I have reset the bar of Bing search, but the Awesome bar is 'stuck' on DDG and I can't change it. I checked the config lists, and my default search engine is Bing, sort of rights the Awesome bar should use Bing as well; It uses rather DDG. How can I change the Awesome bar to use Bing?

  • How to set the location bar search regardless of the selected search engine bar?

The search in the address bar searches with the currently selected in the search bar engine with 23 FF. I find the annoying behavior, because sometimes I select different engines in the search bar, if necessary, but most often I just need to research that I make from the location bar wihout need to change the quick google search engine.

Is it possible to customize the behavior, so that the search in the address bar still points on a single engine, regardless of the engine that is selected in the search bar?

Hello tadolo, you can use an addon like https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/keyword-search/ to get the old behavior.

  • Address search engine bar continues to change at Wikipedia

I've always had the address bar to do a search on Google what I wrote there, with the real sarch bar used for Wikipedia, but for some time already the address bar has done research to Wikipedia. I tried to change keyword. URL about: config and even restore Firefox to default settings, but nothing has worked. Any ideas?

Starting from Firefox 23 keyword. URL pref is no longer supported and is no longer possible to specify the search engine for the location bar like that.

The search engine that is used in the address bar is the search engine that is selected in the Search Bar in the Navigation toolbar.

You can disable the automatic search through the address bar by setting false keyword.enabled and use a keyword search (a letter) to use a rather specific search engine to search through the address bar.

Another option is to disable the search by keyword (keyword.enable = false) and use a keyword (letter) for the search using the address bar.

You can define a keyword for a search engine that is installed through the Manage search engines (click the icon to search on the search bar engine).

Which also allows to easily switch between search engines when searching via the address bar and you don't have a problem with a word search.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/tools > Modules > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is the cause of the problem.

    • Put yourself in the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/tools > Modules > appearance
    • Do NOT click on the reset button on the startup window Mode safe
