Computer is a Dell XPS 210, the Intel Core 2, 660 processor @ 2. 4 Ghz, 4.00 GB of RAM, Windows VISTA, located on a network, NetGear RangeMax router WNR 834 B, D-Link network adapter DWA 556 Xtreme N PCIe Desktop Adapter. Other computers on the network and the wired computer works fine, but this computer has a speed of download de.23 a.5 after checking several sites to check speed. Download speed is equal or higher than 5.8 normal. But all download operations are slow, can not stream video. That is to say YouTube, news, iTunes etc. TV episodes without stopping and buffering constantly. My cable company is not their problem, Netgear said I am out of warranty and need to pay for assistance, said D-Link is not their problem. My network is a secure network, D-Link page says signal is 88%, any other computer connecting to my network, including our laptops are normal. IT IS ONLY FROM THIS COMPUTER. Installed programs are no different that our other computers, Norton, Malwarebytes, regularly, analysed regularly cleaned files, defragmentation on a regular basis, registry checks regularly. on all computers, including this one, BUT THIS ONE has THE LOW SPEED of DOWNLOAD. ANY SUGGESTIONS GREATLY APPRECIATED.

What the connected (I guess by thread given "all other computers on the network" the computer cable)?  If so, there could be a problem with the wires.  They are connecting ethernet cables?  If you have a spare, try using that and see if that makes a difference.  If this is not the case, swap the cable with another computer that works very well and see if the problem moves.  If so, that is a bad cable - replace and you'll be fine.  If not, the cable is probably a good so just make sure that it is secure.

You have a different port on your router that is available?  If so, try changing the cable to the other port to exclude a problem with this port.

Go to the taskbar at the bottom and right-click on it and click on task manager and check the CPU usage and the use of physical memory (and post the results here).  Click the processes tab and identify by name, any process that never use more than 10% CPU (you can sort by CPU usage by clicking the heading of the CPU) and who are in the post.

Do you by chance other programs access to the internet while performing the test (such as downloading updates of Windows or update the definitions of AV software or something like that)?  That could cause a slowdown.  Make sure the IE one window is open during the test and nothing else is running to make sure all is well.  If you still get the slow results, which is not the problem.

If this does not work, try a boot minimum http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135.  If the problem goes away then it's just a matter of tracking down the culprit at the origin of the problem.   Follow the procedures described in the article.  Once found, remove, delete, disable or uninstall.  Once remember to put Vista in normal status, as described in the procedures. If the problem occurs in clean mode then just restore the system to normal and reboot - this solution will not work.

If it does not, start in safe mode with network and try the speedtest from there.  Regardless of the outcome (please post in your reply) it should help to narrow down the cause.

You can get in trouble with your device drivers, firmware and/or software.  Go to the Device Manager by going to start / find and type Device Manager and enter and then double-click on the program icon that appears.  Check each device to a red x, yellow! or white?  These identify devices with problems probably (drivers, but also of conflict or something else).  Click on each for more details and troubleshooting tips.  If you need to get drivers (and you shouldbring at least for your network card and the motherboard and all you have time to do - they can help way beyond simply solve this problem), let the computer dealer or the manufacturer of the device (NOT of Microsoft Updates).  In fact, you must disable automatic updates in Windows Update driver as follows:http://www.addictivetips.com/windows-tips/how-to-disable-automatic-driver-installation-in-windows-vista/.   • After downloading a Uniblue program to speed up my computer, I am unable to start my computer normally, I can't move from safe mode

    I downloaded a program to speed up my older computer, the name of the program is Uniblue Power Suite 2011 German society of Cologne.  The program is listed as Microsoft Partner and have been on the Microsoft web site at least I thought.

    I now can not connect to the computer I get an error message when I boot my computer is in Mode without failure for many of my drivers are not working properly.  I deleted all Uniblue programs, but the problem is not going away.

    Error I get is C:\ProgramFiles\Uniblue\SpeedUpMyPC\PYTHON26. DLL

    Because I'm in safe mode, I can't get windows security to work.

    Any help me get out of Safe Mode would be appreciated.

    You can try to boot from your Installation of Windows Vista disc and try to do a restore to system restore point before you installed Uniblue and check what is happening.

    I have a mid-2010 Studio XPS 9100 with a DW1525 (802.11n) WLAN PCIe Card that is maxing out at 50 Mbps. technician from Comcast showed 100 Mbit/s of the router {(service 150 Mbits/s).}

    Win 10 x 64. Is it possible to achieve download speeds more?

    Your computer requires a Windows 10 driver for the card. Unfortunately, Dell has not all the 10 Windows drivers for this computer.

  • Download almost at a standstill speed

    I have an Inspiron 1525, Vista Home more and connect to the network through Sympatico.

    I had no problem with the network for the first three months.

    Suddenly, my download speed is dropped to 1 to 8 Kbps, but the download speed is a perfect 2 MB.  The upload speed should be around 512 Kbps.  This is the case, wired and wireless.

    PSI has checked the phone line, modem connections and their speed tests show excellent numbers.  To confirm this, I checked the speeds on two other computers laptops (Win 98 and Win 2000) on my network, wired and wireless, and they don't have any problems.

    I have got rid of temporary files, etc. and you have run a spyware check.  No change.

    I have disabled the firewall.  No change.

    I have disabled the Internet Security protection.  No change.

    I have not installed anything for months if this isn't a factor.

    If anyone can help, I would be very happy that, right now, I'm going crazy with this one.

I have the latest firmware I think which is 1.01.06 in date 17/12/2007. I changed the filter on the telephone jack that solved my connection dropping issues.
