I have a Windows Media Video file I recorded using another program. I can open the video and watch it in Windows Media Player, but when I try to import into Windows Movie Maker (as I did with the other videos I recorded), I get a message saying that it cannot be imported "because the necessary codec to play the file is not installed on your computer. Hello

    ·         What program did you use for recording to WMV file?

    ·         Are you having similar problem when you try to import the WMV file, which is not recorded by this program?

    Method 1:

Although you can play a file in Microsoft Windows Media Player, you may not be able to import the file into Windows Movie Maker even though this article lists this kind of file. You will not be able to import the file if the codec that was used to encode the audio or video is not a codec that is supplied with Windows. In this case, you can re - encode the video or audio by using Windows Media Encoder, and then import the video or audio.

To download the Windows Media Encoder, see the Microsoft Web site at the following address:

Please use the Forum for answers!

I'm moving your message to the sounds and the media.

Rename the extension .mpg video and see if you are able to view them.

If this is not the case, check with JVC for instructions on how to edit video files.

    I hope this helps.

Yes, rename the files MOD xxx.mpg worth trying...

If this does not work... you need to convert a compatible

  • Questions, import to iTunes Mp3 songs into Windows Movie Maker

Original title: Windows movie maker, import the music from itunes

So I did a movie and I'm trying to upload music to add to the movie. so, I've converted my songs in mp3 on itunes and try importing them and an error message appears saying iTunes\iTunes 1.mp3 Music\Minutemen\Double Nickels on the Dime\19 Corona could not be imported. then what should I do?

    Hi eragon787976,

Some audio and video file formats are not supported in Windows Movie Maker and cannot be imported. However, if you have a video or audio file that is not taken care of, you can use a non-Microsoft video editing software to convert the file into a format supported by Windows Movie Maker, and then import the video file or an audio resulting in Windows Movie Maker. Some files also require you to install a codec before you can use the files in Windows Movie Maker.

Note: The use of third-party software, including hardware drivers can cause serious problems that may prevent your computer from starting properly. Microsoft cannot guarantee that problems resulting from the use of third-party software can be solved. Software using third party is at your own risk.

When I import a video file into Windows Movie Maker, it plays the video and no Audio how to import the video file so that it contains the audio when the time to line up? Help?

Watch the video file. The last 3 letters represent the file format.

Windows Movie maker only supports the following video file formats:

Video files: .asf, .avi, .dvr-ms, .m1v, .mp2, .mp2v, .mpe, .mpeg, .mpg, .mpv2, .wm, and .wmv

If yours is not on the above list, Movie Maker will have probel play.

In this case, you will have to google for a free video converter and change the format of your video file to WMV. WMV format is the most reliable format for Windows. For the benefits of others looking for answers, please mark as answer suggestion if it solves your problem.

    Hi napoleonfoo,

Did you follow the steps provided by John Inzer?

To better understand the issue, we need the following information:

    (a) what is the exact error that you receive when you import video into windows movie maker?

    (b) what is the file format of the video you are trying to import?

    (c) means the video sharing with each drive that you use or simply with a particular player?

To clarify, you try to install a program (or download the program)?  What program are you trying to install? You get a specific error message?

See the link below for the file format supported.

I have a problem with the import of MP3 files. The error I get is

Movie Maker has problems with MP3 files... it may be worth trying
to convert .wma or .wav files and then try to import into
    Movie Maker.

Windows Media Encoder can convert .wma to .mp3 files:

    or...

    How to convert .mp3 .wma
    using Windows Media Encoder

    Open Windows Media Encoder

On the screen of the new Session / Wizards tab...
choose... Convert a file / OK

On the file selection screen. Go to the
.MP3 file source that you want to convert

Also, search for and select a folder record and
Enter a name for your converted file.
    Save button / next

On the Distribution of content screen I usually
Choose "Archive file" / next / finish.

When you see the screen of "coding of the results.
    the task is complete.

  • Could do audio or video during playback of video file into Windows Movie Maker.

Original title: problems using Windows Movie Maker.

I have a HP Pavilion p6310f desktop computer and I created a movie using about 16 short mpeg files. However, there are no audio or video when I play the individual files in the preview window, and when I try to play the movie, the program crashes. What could be the cause of the problem?

Reset did not help, either. Should I convert the MPEG to AVI files? I read somewhere that might help.

Give it a try. It won't hurt.

  • Error file corrupted or incompatible, cannot import files MP3 to Windows Movie Maker.

Original title: Amazon MP3 in Windows Movie Maker import problems.

Still have Windows XP.  Bought and download MP3s on Amazon, but is unable to import into Windows Movie Maker.  Says file corrupt (all of them) or is not compatible (MP3 should be).  I tried to convert it to WAV and WMA - still will not work.  Get desperate.  I would be very happy any help you could provide.  Thanks in advance.

Experienced same problem with Amazon MP3 downloads.  Could not bring to import into Movie Maker.  Read somewhere to convert WMA of the song, but couldn't find out how to do this.  I wanted to download 3rd party software.  Had already created the CD with the songs that I wanted to use mm.   Ripped from this CD for PC with Windows Media Player, which gives you option to change the format.  Changed the format to WMA format and then imported into Movie Maker.  After all, hope this time it helps you, too.

    (Windows XP / Vista / 7)

You will need to unzip the file... or you could just drag
the Setup.exe from the file out of the folder and drop it on your
    desktop and install from there.

Once installed...drag/drop your audio files on the Sothink
icon to start the program. Then, in the encoding settings...
Choose... Generic Audio / WMA Audio (*.wma).

Choose an output folder and on the left, click on the button convert.

You can experiment with other settings later but
This should help you get started.
