Importing audio files into Windows Movie Maker

Trying to import music files into a movie in Windows Movie Maker, I get a message saying that the name of file.MP3 music could not be imported, but it does not give me a reason why the audio file cannot be imported. Is there something I can do?

Watch the video file. The last 3 letters represent the file format.

Windows Movie maker only supports the following video file formats:

Video files: .asf, .avi, .dvr-ms, .m1v, .mp2, .mp2v, .mpe, .mpeg, .mpg, .mpv2, .wm, and .wmv

If yours is not on the above list, Movie Maker will have probel play.

In this case, you will have to google for a free video converter and change the format of your video file to WMV. WMV format is the most reliable format for Windows. For the benefits of others looking for answers, please mark as answer suggestion if it solves your problem.

  • Impossible to import music files into wondows movie maker. Help!

Hi, im trying to import some .mp3 files in movie maker (with vista) and I get an error message saying that "it contains no valid audio data" and others that are important, I can't use as windows the song is more than 24 hours, when the song is actually 4 or 5 minutes. Why this is happening and how to fix it?

    Hi r.achtel,

What is the format of the file that is having problems with the length of the song? This only happens with this specific file format?

Please provide the complete error message you receive.

Step 1: You can follow the procedure presented by John Inzer, MVP Saturday, August 8, 2009 17:50 in the link below:

    http://social.answers.Microsoft.com/forums/en-us/vistamedia/thread/8e6841de-4EDB-4AF6-B179-3498b2461f6d

Step 2: Run SFC (System File Checker) Scan

The System File Checker (SFC) utility allows administrators to perform an analysis of all protected resources to make sure they are the correct version. Whether SFC should find all incorrect versions in one of these protected resources, SFC will be replaced by the correct versions.

You can still run a SFC scan on the windows vista computer. To run a scan suite SFC as follows:

    (a) click Start and in the start search bar type cmd, right-click on the command prompt icon in the box programs and then click Run as administrator.

    (b) at the command prompt type sfc/scannow , and then press ENTER.

  • Impossible to import PowerPoint file in Windows Movie Maker - codec error

I am tryping to import a PowerPoint file into Windows Movie Maker to burn it to a DVD, but I get a codec error

How can I find this codec and install it?

    Blond highlights Hello,

Thanks for posting in the Microsoft answers Forum.  Usually, when you try to play a video in Media Player if you do not have the right codec Media Player will automatically download and install the correct codec if it is available.  Since this is a Power Point presentation has video embedded in it?  If so, try to play the video file outside the Power Point presentation and Media Player will go out and get the correct codec if you are connected to the internet.  Here is an article from the Microsoft Knowledge base that explains Media player codecs and configuration to automatically download:

  • Cannot import mp3 files in Windows Movie Maker 6 under Vista. Error ".mp3 could not be imported.

Currently, I did a video using Windows Movie Maker Version 6. I downloaded several downloads mp3 audio and have only been able to import a couple of them in Windows Movie Maker. I downloaded three downloads of specific music that will not matter. The box that opens is not give me a code or something that it either just States the following: C:\Users\b-radd\Music\Amazon MP3\LMFAO\Party Rock (Amazon MP3 Exclusive Version) [Explicit] \09 - hits [Explicit] .mp3 would not be imported.

I have no explanation, and it makes no sense that I can download some but not all mp3 downloads. What can I do to be importable download music in Windows Movie Maker? or import music that I already paid for and tried to import?

    Hello, guenoun.

I seem to have the same problem as tantoe but when I clicked on the link in your message, it took me to the page, but the person's recommendation was not good; It (don't remember the name) had two links to click & when I clicked on the two I was redirected to a page that says that the page could not be found.

The song with that I have a problem is "I'm in love (with a killer)" by Jeffree Star &, as with all my other audio files that I did NOT have this problem with, is mp3 format. I have a video in mind with this song & pictures I saved star but Windows Movie Maker cannot import it.

If there is anything you could do, advice you could give, I would really appreciate it. This is my favorite song by Jeffree Star & it drives me crazy not being able to import it into Movie Maker. :-/

  • Could do audio or video during playback of video file into Windows Movie Maker.

Original title: problems using Windows Movie Maker.

I have a HP Pavilion p6310f desktop computer and I created a movie using about 16 short mpeg files. However, there are no audio or video when I play the individual files in the preview window, and when I try to play the movie, the program crashes. What could be the cause of the problem?

Reset did not help, either. Should I convert the MPEG to AVI files? I read somewhere that might help.

Everything simply because a video playing in Windows Media Player is
no guarantee that it will be compatible with Movie Maker.

MPEG files are very problematic in Movie Maker... and
even if you manage to import, it would probably be
have problems when you try to save a movie.

The best would be to convert files to WMV format
before you import into the machine to Moaiv.

  • Why can I play a WMV video that I created, but not import it into Windows Movie Maker?

Why do I get the error message "the file * *.wmv cannot be imported because the codec required to play the file is not installed on your computer." If you have already tried to download and install the codec, close and restart Windows Movie Maker, and then try to re-import the file. "I tried to close Windows Movie Maker and reopening, she even tried to restart my computer, but it still does not work.

    Hello

    ·         What program did you use for recording to WMV file?

    ·         Are you having similar problem when you try to import the WMV file, which is not recorded by this program?

    Method 1:

Although you can play a file in Microsoft Windows Media Player, you may not be able to import the file into Windows Movie Maker even though this article lists this kind of file. You will not be able to import the file if the codec that was used to encode the audio or video is not a codec that is supplied with Windows. In this case, you can re - encode the video or audio by using Windows Media Encoder, and then import the video or audio.

To download the Windows Media Encoder, see the Microsoft Web site at the following address:

    Hi eragon787976,

Some audio and video file formats are not supported in Windows Movie Maker and cannot be imported. However, if you have a video or audio file that is not taken care of, you can use a non-Microsoft video editing software to convert the file into a format supported by Windows Movie Maker, and then import the video file or an audio resulting in Windows Movie Maker. Some files also require you to install a codec before you can use the files in Windows Movie Maker.

Note: The use of third-party software, including hardware drivers can cause serious problems that may prevent your computer from starting properly. Microsoft cannot guarantee that problems resulting from the use of third-party software can be solved. Software using third party is at your own risk.

To better understand the issue, we need the following information:
