DPM Configurar y DRS

Hola y buenos dias, por end he received los nuevos host that sustituyen a otros than no tenian mas than 4 cards of Red y ahora tengo is a cluster con host of 12 red cards. in este punto quiero poner correctamente el trafico of red.

Como is ve en el dibujo tengo una red para the virtual console y las VM, otra para el vmotion y otra para el FT.

In este punto quiero poner otra red para el DRS y DPM y no is donde is crea red especifica esta.

The config an en el propio cluster of como quiero than work, pero... the Red dedicated para este trafico? o any usa una las anteriores? in case of tal cual?

Hago estas questions are only voy has disk este tema in 2 phases. Primero en production poner las functions of DPM y DRS y en UN segundo paso voy a los migrar hosts an esxi.

There is me direis TR porque that migrates primero no trabajo duplico, pero no importa me are what I need mas nao are el tema of DRS.

A saludo thanks

Hello that tal,

DRS/DPM no use mycket red config adicional.  DRS is apoya red vMotion para hacer las migration automaticas y DPM is apoya en DRS para liberar UN host y en pending leave.

Saludos,

  • DPM is disabled, without human intervention

Gentlemen, I have in my environment an IBM BladeCenter with 8 blades, each blade has a network interface with the support of Wake On LAN, so I created the vSwitch0 and some exchanges connected this interface also I activated Vmotion in a Portgroup management, the goal is to enable VMware DPM.

To test, put each blade Eve took place normally, then the DRS I enabled DPM and it worked, vCenter back 5 blades in standby mode, keeping the virtual machines, the other 3, only the DPM is being alone, disabled the vCenter itself, then I activated again the other day that the DMP is disabled.

    What can cause this?

Sorry, but I did not understand what is the problem or your doubts? Ask yourself why the blades go to Stand By mode without human intervention?

  • HA Admission Control and DPM with clusters with 3 and 2 guests

    Hello world

I have two clusters, with 3 hosts first and second with 2 hosts. And I have a few questions about the activation of DPM:

    1. 3 HA/DRS cluster hosts, I activated the admission control to the percentage of cluster resources reserved as failover alternative DART at 33%. Because I have no VM on this cluster, when I enabled DPM he put 2 hosts in standby mode. And now when I powered on any virtual machine on this cluster I get error "the operation is not allowed in the current state. It is possible that when I disable the admission control - but then I lose protection HA. So in Group 3 knots I would always have 2 guests under tension when strict admission control VMware HA is enabled? It is possible that if in DPM options I disabled power on 2 hosts management. Am I wrong? And DPM set power switch my third host (for example brings leaves host standby mode to keep the needs of failover)?
    2. Cluster of 2 guests when I activate CAC (50%) Should I disable DMP, because I still have 2 powered on the hosts?

1 HA/DRS + DPM you 1 single host standby because HA need 2 host be powered.

    2. no DPM in two Cluster nodes if HA is enabled.

  • Question on the affinity of the DRS Host 'should' pronounce

    Hello experts,

When using a rule "should work", VMs can run on a host computer to a host no specific DRS group.

I would like to know under what condition VMs running on a host unspecified DRS group.

I checked the following document, but this is not to say about the State:

    http://pubs.VMware.com/vSphere-4-ESX-vCenter/topic/com.VMware.vSphere.ResourceManagement.doc_41/using_drs_clusters_to_manage_resources/c_vm_host_drs_rules.html

    Kind regards

    Kiyo

    Welcome to the community,

DRS, DPM, and HA is a complex topic and there are many things that are taken into calculation. (Preferential) rules 'should', can be violated by the DRS if necessary and they could also be violated by HA, because HA is not aware of these rules. If the DRS is defined in the lower priority 2 it will correct these HA based violations if possible.

For very detailed information on this complex (and interesting) topic, I can really recommend "vSphere 5.0 Clustering technique deepdive ' by Duncan Epping and Frank Denneman.

  • DRS works not the way I like it too...

    Hi all

I am currentley involved in a VMware View PoC... I'm running now 5 ESXi hosts with a toal of 24 GHz of CPU and 20 GB of RAM. I'm currentely have 3 servers of view (regular, security, transfer) and 4 virtual desktops... each of these machines have 1 GB of RAM allocated. For some reason, all of these VMs will only by two of my servers in the cluster. 3 other servers have NOTHING on them... what gives?... I disabled HA because I didn't feel it is nessecery right now for my PoC but the DRS is turned on and I put it to automated (aggressive)... I get errors on one of the hosts on the use of host... resources which would not happen if the DRS work properly. Every time I click on "runDRS" nothing happens... it says only: "discounting to the recommendations" in the task pane, but does not actually work gives recommendations... Also, I must add that I get the error of unbalanced load (0,367)

Any help on this would be greatly appreciated...

    Thank you all

Your virtual machines will not be migrated to different ESX hosts, if the hosts they run on are not under any kind of strain (even if you set the fully automated political DRS and 5 stars)

If you have the luxury of being underprivileged, you might consider using something like DPM to actually close the ESX hosts that are not in use.

If at the same time, you want to check that DRS is working properly, just drop some virtual machines more on host computers and ensure that nail resources (you'll want to CPU / memory usage by more than 70% on each host for the DRS to a few "pose")

    Good luck.

  • vSphere 4.1 HA and DRS technical Deepdive, the book!

As many questions about this forum can be found in our book that has just been released, I wanted to share the following:

VMware vSphere 4.1 HA and DRS technical Deepdive zoomed in on two key elements of each based VMware infrastructure and

is not a "how to" Guide. It covers the basic steps needed to

create a cluster VMware HA and DRS, but even more important, explain it to

concepts and mechanisms behind HA and DRS, which will allow you to

well-informed decisions. This book will take you the trenches of

HA and DRS and give you the tools to understand and implement for example

HA admission control policies, the DRS resource pools and resources

distribution settings. In addition, each section contains basic design

principles that can be used to design, implement or improve

    VMware infrastructure.

    Coverage includes:

    • HA the node types

    • HA isolation detection and response

    • HA admission control

    • Monitoring VM

    • HA and DRS integration

    • Algorithm of imbalance DRS

    • Resource pools

    • Impact of reservations and limits

    • CPU resources planning

    • Scheduler memory

    • DPM

I hope you enjoy it and don't mind sharing this with you.

  • On the DPM (Distributed Power Management) in VMware vSphere

    Dear Sir.

    As the description below URL.

    http://www.VMware.com/files/PDF/drs_datasheet.PDF

Could you explain how DPM works on the server?

I want to say how does VMware ESX control the power consumption of the server?

    Kind regards

    Charles

    Charles,

DPM does not resemble the power consumption of an ESX Server, but it leans on the CPU load and memory. "VMware Distributed Power Management (DPM) continually optimizes energy consumption in the data center. When virtual machines in a DRS cluster need less resources, such that during the nights and weekends, DPM consolidated on fewer servers and the rest goes off to reduce energy consumption, the workloads. When VM resource needs increase (for example when users log in applications in the morning), DPM brings guests powered down online to ensure service levels are met. "For more information, see VMware vSphere VMware Distributed Resource Scheduler (DRS) .

  • DPM, and HA

I have a cluster of ESX4 5 nodes managed by vCenter 4. I enabled DPM on the cluster, as well as HA. DPM has four of the five nodes in the standby mode. How is that possible? If there is a failover of the host, I have to wait for a node to & start before other virtual machines could power on – we're talking somewhere in the area of 3-5 minutes (each node is a quad 4 with 64 GB of RAM).

    Am I missing something here?

    Hi, damiankarlson,

I don't expect to put 4 of the hosts in your host 5 cluster HA/DRS/DPM DPM

    standby mode unless:

    (1) the group currently has no virtual machines running.  In this case (assuming that you have

Controls admission active HA), when licensing, the first machine virtual power - on demand

a standby host is supplied, so that failover is provided for

    This virtual machine.

    (2) HA admission control is disabled.  In this case, vCenter (including the DRS/DPM)

not track and preserve the spare resources to fail over and therefore (as

by 1007006 KB), by using DPM in this case is risky.

((1) or (2) shall apply to your situation?  If this isn't the case, I would like to continue the investigation.

    -Sincerely, Anne

P.S. I'm curious on what strategy of failover HA do you use (number of)

to tolerate host failures, failover designated host, percentage of resources)?

  • DPM - check on the status of a consistency check?

Recently, our (virtual) file server crashes, so I had to perform a consistency check on the volume.

The total size of the data is approximately 2 TB

  • Driver for IBM TS3100 Tape library. for windows 2008R2 and DPM 2010

I installed DPM 2010 in the edition of Windows 2008R2 STD. I am using the IBMTS3100 tape library. Windows detects the tape device but media changer appears as unknown medium changer. I cannot see the details of the driver for the medium changer and means 'no driver file is required or have been loaded for the device. When I try to update the driver, it says already installed the latest driver for the device.

Now the question is DPM does not detect the slots in the tape library.

I have installed Symantec Backu Exec in the same server and everything works fine.

If anyone has the driver for the device please inform else we are go to Backupexec... :(
