Drop cap and stray letters

Is it possible to have the "n" move on to the more close to the drop cap without affecting the second line?

There is something to do what you want.

  1. Click on your Type tool between the drop cap and the letter 'n'.
  2. Right-click and choose Insert special character > other > Non-Joiner
  3. Set the kerning value. (Where the arrow is in the screenshot below)

And now you know the secret!

You have manually applied 1 character Style to the whole paragraph. THT is a priority.

  • Drop cap in the first paragraph only...

    Hi all

I found what looks like the solution to this, but it does not work (making it not a solution).

in any case, I've created two paragraph styles ('First paragraph Style' and 'Paragraph Style'). "First paragraph Style" I put the drop cap, and I put "Next Style" (under 'general') 'Paragraph Style' (who has not a setting of the drop cap, or rather the settings by default ie. 0 rows, etc.).

The catch: I apply the paragraph Style first to my text and... all paragraphs will have a drop cap, as defined in the first paragraph Style. Major sadness!

    Any ideas?

    Thank you very much!

You must right click on the first paragraph Style and then choose apply "paragraph Style" then next Style.

  • Drop cap 2nd or 3rd character

How can I make a drop cap for the 2nd or 3rd character at the beginning of a paragraph?

First, make a new paragraph style. Then apply drop cap for the first two or three characters:

Then with the first two characters selected, adjust their size and baseline shift to go back to the normal font size and position (you should probably use guides to make it as specific as possible):

When you qualify, make a new Style of character using the characters selected as a model:

Return to the Options of paragraph Styles dialog box, and then in "Drop caps and nested Styles" add a new nested Style that applies the new Style of character for the first two characters:

Finally, you can apply your paragraph for new paragraphs style you like.

  • Space between the text and the drop cap

    Hello

    Hope you are well.

In the picture as an attachment (a screen shot from an InDesign document), I would create more space between the drop cap L and the text to the right.

    How do I do that?

Likewise, you must define the difference between any pair of characters - with kerning!

  • Align the drop cap at the bottom of the paragraph

I'm designing a model in InDesign and our chapter start may include a certain number. That is to say. "1 it's header. Sometimes the header will be 2 lines and sometimes the other.

I want the number to be BIG and you want to, my text base line up to be a line or 2.

The drop cap function or create a character style that makes this large number causes still my text align to the TOP of the number.

    Any ideas?

    Here's another thought.

Use a nested style to get your large enough number, then put on your text between a larger and a smaller one for the number text box for the rest of the cuff.

It is always a single line, but by setting both of your text boxes to align to the bottom, you can get the alignment you need.

  • Drop cap / kerning

How do I space the kerning around the "drop cap" letter 'C' if the spacing on the bottom (which is too close to the text) is the same as the spacing on the right.

    Drop Cap.jpg

With it selected, you can adjust the space to the right of the dropcap through follow-up (or you can select the insertion point to right of the CAP and use the kerning). The space below can be handled by the vertical offset and, if the CAP rises too high, adjust its size.

    So start with this:

Is it possible to implement the paragraph for the style as a drop cap numbers?

I have reports that they most often require the paragraph numbers. These are all configured as numbered lists, but I'd like to try something different and to display as a drop cap of 3 line.

I tried all sorts of stuff style but can't seem to make it work. Anyone know if this is possible?

    Thank you

Jongware, I'm sorry too, but we are wrong!

YOU can perform automatic numbering and drop cap together! So obvious! [I am very tired right now!  ]

All we need is a little regex:

  • How do underline you a drop cap so that the text following around her wrapping?

I found a PDF Online where the designer has used large drop caps on a number of occasions that are highlighted.

Obviously this is not technically difficult, I can add an underline in the character Panel, but underscore appears above the line of text below.

In the case of the original example, not only the line of text below appears as underscore on the drop cap, the adjacent text to the right of the drop cap is perfectly aligned with the bottom of the letter drop IMP and the underscore, as if everything is settled on the baseline. How is - this made both acurately?

  • drop cap rule

In layouts of book, and if the first character on the new copy of body of page chapter is a quotation mark vs a letter? -I guess I apply the drop cap style/technique at a time. Visually, it seems to look pretty good. But what is the rule in this case?

    Thank you!

There is a convention cited in different style guides which in this case

the opening quote is omitted. Good luck for this past your

editors. I never got to. visually, this is probably the best solution.

Instead, I reduce the opening quote to the almost regular text size and

then-vertical offset upward while he sits in a visually acceptable

Spot. Some kerning may also be necessary.

For me, this rarely works to place in the full-drop cap format. I guess what it

    might according to the police.

  • Drop cap problem

When text in TextFrame is aligned to reference and updated level on the scale - drop cap becomes too high and hangs on the text. Is this a bug in InDesign or I missed something?

Here is an example of such behavior: scale is 200%, size of the drop cap is 8 rows. I use InDesign CS5.5.

    DropCap.png

Instead of using the global reference grid, add a grid custom for the linked text frames (you can add it as part of a style of object). This seems to be what you need.

Thank you guys for your advice and help this sort.

I divided the alphabet into four main groups and a paragraph style each with its own style of character for the quote. They differ in the amount of follow-up for the quote.

  • How do I use an image as drop caps?

I have a picture that I want to place on the left of the paragraph. I want the same function as a drop cap, i.e. that it should deal with a number of lines, and it must follow the first line of the paragraph.

Simply place the image before the first letter and juggle the dressing parameters seems impossible. I have to use the setting of the drop cap, but then I have other strange behaviors.

Placing a allow photo me to adjust the skin and position correctly, but then the image will not follow the paragraph...

I hate when I do not understand how I should do things!

    How should I do?

    Drop Cap.png

Text wrapping is the best way to go. But you want the graph move with the text.

If you need create an anchored object. You can read about it in InDesign help.

If you tried to cut and paste the image into the text, it won't work because it is just the fixed graphics creation. In fact, you want to create the graphics to be anchored in the previous paragraph, so you can also have the text wrapping. Here are a few screenshots to help you.

It is much easier to create in InDesign CS5.5 (you didn't say what version of InDesign you use) because you can drag a blue square that appears right to where you want to anchor the file. It's a little more complicated in earlier versions of InDesign.

  • Matter of style re: color of the drop cap, the rest of the text in black

Hello... I'm trying to achieve this result by using character paragraph styles / nested:

    1.jpg

    Instead, that's what I mean:

    12-22-2010 10-20-11 PM.jpg

I have a paragraph with a nested character style style. The paragraph style specifies the point of using a drop cap with 4 lines. The nested character style tells the paragraph to the first three words in a special font and some red CMYK color. But I can't understand how to tell the style also put the drop cap in the same color. Help!

    Thank you.

the character of the dropcap style there red color value itself?

PARK style of paragraph for a moment, go to the style of CHARACTERS assigned to the dropcap letter and look at the options. Look at the color of the text and see if it is red or not.

    Does that help?

  • Drop caps formatting

I use InDesign CS4, and this is my first time to use the program. I want to format a drop cap situation where the drop cap is 'A '. The first word is 'And' I want the 'nd' to be closer to the 'A' and the first word on the second line to move further to the right. I understood how to do this by adding thin spaces before the 'nd' and the first word on the second line and then Alt arrow left or Alt + right arrow. However, what makes the spellchecker treat 'nd' as a separate Word, which is not desirable.

Is it possible to implement changes to spacing I want without split words?

Try to put a non-joiner between CAP and the first character of normal size... Type > special characters > other > Non-Joiner, then set the kerning with alt + left/right arrow

I Don t know about the spell checker, but at least find & change stil found the first word as whole word after I added non-menuisier...
