Drop virtual network machines

Hello, have a 5.1 with multi-server environment lose connectivity to the network, we disconnect and then reconnect the adapter and everything works normally. Appearance is random and can extend for a month before he is raising its ugly head.

The 200 mV 4 key

Version 5.1.0 1612806

Version 9 of VM

OS 2008R2

Tried the E1000 and VMXNet3 adapters

Tools are underway

This could be the cause of this type of behavior?

Thank you

Excellent.  Well done.

I read the newspapers by ssh to host and less vmkernel.log - is there a better way to filter through all that text. Can you throw a newspaper in an application that will pull the anomalies or potential problems?

The first thing to know is that the logs on an ESXi host as read a session to the ssh VMHost are UTC.  So the first thing you can do is to calculate the offset in my head or make a comment in Notepad of the time I care (both in hour local time UTC).  The vSphere Client (web client and FAT) log in local time of the computer customer you are sourcing from.  SSH does not work.  It's pure UTC.

If there is something in particular you are looking for, you can use grep (or "grep-i ' for case-insensitive") to search only what you need.  To watch the logs in real-time, you can perform a "tail - fv" (this will follow in verbose mode).  If you are already in a session of 'less', you can type "/" and then enter your search parameters and press ENTER.  Then the desired search criteria will be highlighted.  This is convenient when you want to highlight a range of dates, for example.  Then you page down quickly to join the bits that are useful to you.

Thus, some examples of which above:

grep link /var/log/vmkernel.log

grep-i link /var/log/vmkernel.log

tail - fv /var/log/vmkernel.log | grep-i link

Note: It is also useful for search in the vmware.log examine the VM events

The above is good for instant satisfaction, but it is not scalable.  To really get the power of your newspapers, the preferred method uses a solution of syslog.  My favorite is VMware LogInsight, but you can also use something like Splunk as well.

When you say use official ISO HP, is my correct understanding where I should be actually imaging of the host, attach to themselves to group, dvswitch etc...

As you already updated the VIBs you want manually, no need to mess with this IMHO.  In general, there is no need to recreate the image of the hosts that already exist, even if it is an option if you wish, especially in the next major update for example (just be sure to have your drivers Async 10 GB injected into if you are going to install a day.)  In general, ISO HP should already have everything that you need, but still test on a host of spare first when possible).

For ESXi hosts are already deployed, you can simply Add the HP at VUM repository so that updates HP down and can be applied to the existing VMHosts which were built using the standard ISO VMware.  Check out my recent post here on VMTN for some additional details.  Whenever you test VUM first, just to make sure that only the host that you want to test is highlighted in the left pane (i.e. from view hosts and Clusters).  Place it in Maintenance Mode, and then select the Update Manager tab in the right pane and go through the steps to fix the end than a single host.

It seems that you should be good to go with your current config that we got from you, and it's already done.  It will be good to learn but for the future of the VUM experience.  Practice on a host of test, or better still, to create an isolated laboratory running ESXi as VMs (will also require a full installation of vCenter / VUM to test completely in isolation).  You can do something like this on VMware Workstation, VMware Fusion, or nested ESXi.

Good luck and keep us posted.

  • Impossible to locate or select network adapters in the virtual network editor - W2K8 host

I am running VMware 2.0.1 on a W2K8 64-bit host (with the windows firewall is disabled for now). VM images are all able to start and use the network bridged the host connection. I can access these images of virtual computer on the network, and even each image virtual machine running on that host computer has access to the public network.

My problem is that I have three network adapters available on the host, but I can't individually select one of them in the virtual network Editor. The "Automatic gateways" checkbox is grayed, outside, tab automatic bypass, and if I try to select an adapter to exclude none appear in the dialog 'Add adapters excluded' that opens. In the virtual network mapping tab VMnet0 host, is set to be filled to an automatically chosen adapter and VMnet1 & 8 are configured to use their default VMware network cards. If I open the selections from drop down menu to one of the network adapter 10 VMnets listed in the virtual network mapping tab host there is no available alternative.

Note: three network cards available on my W2K8 host server, one of them is a fault tolerant team consisting of two individual adapters and two other network cards are not associated. The team of the adapter has a network on our local network connection, but the other two adapters are connected to a private network. The fact that the images of the virtual machine running on that host are available on the network and be able to use the network indicates to me that my VMnet0 connection automatically open is finding and using the adapters together somehow (Luckily, by design?).

I installed VMware 1.X and 2.0 on many host W2K3 servers and never encountered this problem before.

If Win2008 follows a similar to Vista security model, then you must run AS administrator virtual network Editor.  Otherwise, you cannot make changes selections.

  • Virtual network editor - virtual DC leak on network

    Hello

I created a laboratory to test of windows server 2008 in vmware workstation 11. I put the custom virtual network adapter:

    virtual network editor.jpg

I've got 2 VMs - windows server 2008 and win7. I tied VMnet2 both of these machines and created the field and join a windows 7 virtual computer to the domain. Great! but I have 1 problem. I put my IP to domain controller: 192.168.123.10

But I can ping this address of the host (laptop) machine. is this normal? I thought about creating above network settings would completely isolate the physical network. Did I miss something or wrong configured network? I don't want the virtual network of VM fleeing somehow to the physical realm. I can't risk having 2 DCs on the network.

    ping.jpg

so simple answer was watching me in the face. Just had to untick "connect an adapter to the virtual host on this network.

For those looking to implement an isolated test lab windows domains, these are the settings you need.

  • Bind Virtual Network Interfaces to the physical Interfaces

    Good day to all.

    My situation is as such:
    VMware NICs.png

I have a virtual machine running Red Hat Enterprise Linux as guest OS and my host machine is a laptop running Windows 8.1. Each operating system has two network interface cards. I want to place the virtual machine on the line between a router that would be on the left (side Intranet) firewall followed by Internet on the right (side of the internet). I hope there is an option that would allow me to effectively "bind" one of each virtual NETWORK adapter to each physical NETWORK adapter, so that when I place the machine host on the network line, it would be like the VM would be online also. So, basically I want to accomplish what is highlighted in RED in my small figure above.

The full rectangle is the guest OS with its two network cards on each side, and the incomplete rectangle is the host device with its own two network cards on each side. I hope that someone could point me in the right direction, it would be greatly appreciated.

VMware Player, "Configure the adapter" parameters are indeed not unique for each virtual interface. You use VMware Workstation to meet your requirement. For workstation, you can create two VMnets and link your two adapters to them, then connect your two cards in the comments to the VMnet respectively

  • Easy way to export and restore the virtual network editor in 10 workstation

I'm looking for an easy way back up and restore my settings of the virtual network Editor. I use Workstation 10.0.3 on Windows 7 64 bit and have several networks configured on different host machines. After Googling for the problem, I found the following:

-on a Linux host, the settings are stored in/etc/vmware/networking. However, I am not able to find the file in Windows. Source: http://serverfault.com/questions/535193/vmware-workstation-how-to-automate-or-script-changes-to-the-virtual-network-co

-on a Windows host, all parameters could be saved through export of certain keys in the registry. But these keys are at least partially unique on each host, and it would be a real pain to get the keys on each host individually. Source: Re: VMware WS configuration backup

-vnetlib control should support a statement "-export" which creates a text file containing the necessary information. However if I try to run the command, as described in the link, no file is created on my machine. The command must be ' start/wait vnetlib.exe - export path_to_file' (I am running this command of in the workplace, of course installation directory). I also tried "vnetlib" - path_to_file to export, but that did not help either. I know that vnetlib works because I reinstalled successfully the vmx86 with vnetlib service - install. If also tried the vnetlib64.exe, but no luck. Source: Re: virtual network editor

So is - someone of you knows how to solve my problem? I'm looking for a way to write a simple batch script that exports the settings without having to deal with the registry. My virtual network Editor loses its configuration from time to time and I don't want to set up everything by hand again.

    Thanks in advance.

  • How to set up a virtual network that is isolated inside of vCenter

I would like to set up a virtual network isolated within my vCenter environment, I have a domain controller and a few machines, I want them to be able to speak for them, but not to our network, is this possible?

Can I simply create a vSwitch and attach it to any vmnic? Then add all the machines on the same workgroup?

Yes it is possible.  Yes, just create a vSwitch and not to attach any /vmnics physical NIC and then add all the machines to the vSwitch.  Also, be sure to use a range of ip addresses that is completely different from your production environment.

You can also use private VLANs.

Please check the useful and accurate.

    Thank you

  • Virtual network Editor

    Hello

A number (12) of VMS, I moved from my old laptop under VM Workstation 9 to my new computer laptop with 10 Workstation (10.0.2 build-1744117).  The machines I spent are all affected with static addresses.  I added a new virtual network and so I gave him the IP address of my machines (192.168.95.0), but when I apply the settings, VM gives me a random address.

First of all, is it possible to define your own IP address and the subnet in the virtual network Editor?  Example 192.168.95.0

Second, networks, I added, I cannot delete them now.  Is it possible to delete the virtual network editor networks?

    Concerning

    Ewan.

It is indeed unusual. Unfortunately I have an older version installed at the moment, and on this, everything works perfectly.

I could think - other than a software bug-, is that maybe an application for Antivirus/end point protection is blocking something. What you can try is to temporarily disable these applications/services and also to start the virtual network with permissions editor high (by right clicking) "as an administrator".

  • Network/DNS/DHCP issues with testlab - virtual network Editor is killing me!

Hey all - a little new with workstation and have been messing around trying to get this to work for so long, I want to just set up my lab already but can't find the catch here.

So, here is what I tried to do:

Have a hand of Windows Server 2008 R2 (Controller/DHCP/DNS/Active Directory domain / IIS) addresses/leases DHCP of an internal network (which means, I want some Windows 7 Ultimate customers to assign IPs to the DC and NOT of VMWare offers integrated DHCP). I want clients to be able to use only one NIC (preferably) and both authenticate to AD and connect to the Internet (so I think I'll pass on DNS to resolve external domains?). I'm having a pretty hard time trying to understand what...

My physical network is an active router Linksys with DHCP, so them to assign an IP address to the PC that I'm looking for this laboratory-perhaps it is a problem as well and must also be configured or have my VMNet reflecting?

I tried to use NAT, a bridge connection, etc... and even then, when I got my DC with an active internet connection, how would I configure my clients (Win7 devices) to join the network even on my domain controller is? I tried some configurations in these forums as well, but none seems to for what I'm trying (which seems very simple!). Can anyone offer some advice? I am not opposed to the fresh start. Thanks for taking a peek.

Here is an example of configuration when all the virtual machines are configured for NAT.

    Virtual network Editor:

    DHCP disabled for NAT

For an example, I assume that the NAT subnet in 192.168. 100. x. You can change this if you wish.

    DC:

    IP address: 192.168.100.10

    Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0

    Gateway: 192.168.100.2

    DNS server: 127.0.0.1

    Configuration of the DHCP server:

    Range: 192.168.100.150... 200

    Subnet: 255.255.255.0

    Gateway: 192.168.100.2

    DNS server: 192.168.100.10

    The DNS server configuration:

DNS forwarding to: 192.168.100.2 (for other than the own domain URLS)

Other servers or systems with static IP settings:

    IP address: 192.168.100.11... 149

    Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0

    Gateway: 192.168.100.2

    DNS server: 192.168.100.10

    Customer:

Networking will be set to automatic.

In this way, the domain controller will be the only DHCP and DNS server, but each virtual computer will be able to access directly to the Internet. And because the domain controller is the primary DNS, your ad cannot function properly.

  • Establishment of a virtual network

    Hi all

Sorry if this question is asked a million times, but as a beginner to ESXi, I'm having some trouble to configure my virtual network. The pointers in the right direction or links to the guides of initiation would be accepted with gratitude.

Basically, at the moment, I have Win 2 K 8 R2 x 64 and Win 7 x 64 VMs put in place on my server ESXi. The 2 k 8 is a domain on my existing external domain controller. It is also a DHCP and DNS server (I'm going to RRAS later). It has 2 vNIC. The first card (wan) receives an ip address on my broadband router and is therefore very well (I'll deal with public IP addresses later). The second is the interface lan / vlan and is configured with a static IP, 192.168.20.5, which is the address of the dns server and the subnet ip (192.168.20.x) served by DHCP. Ideally, I would like to connect to a physical NETWORK card for the internal network physical, but also a virtual internal network that vms in the same domain can connect to.

The vm Win7 has a vNIC and does not have an address at the present time. It is configured on VM2, as is the internal vNIC to the domain controller.

At a later date, I also intend to add a second domain separate and DC with the same configuration (we run two businesses from the same site). There may be any connection between the two. The physical aspect is pretty straighforward. It would simply be a matter of physical extra network adapters and duplicate the configuration for the first area?

    I hope this makes sense.

    Thanks in advance.

    Graeme

The second network has no network management...

Network management is used to manage host ESXi itself and has nothing to do with the Virtual Machine networks, so there is no need to install a network of management on each vSwitch.

... and I don't have internet on the virtual machine windows 7.

How could you, without uplink. It is basically the same as for a physical network. If a PC is connected to a switch, and there is no connection to the Internet (for example, a router), you will have the chance to work online.

It will appear and I could binds to Network 2 VM when it is connected so that the server can serve both physical customers?

    Yes, it should work.

I need bridging the connections in some way to allow the customer to win 7 access internet connection of the VM network 1.

What is the purpose of separate areas if you want now fill the networks? What you can do is use a firewall (for example, pfSense), configure a separate vSwitch for each domain (without uplinks) and configure the firewall to connect to each vSwitch 'domain' as well as with the uplink to allow Internet traffic to the different areas but block direct traffic between them.

  • How to change the local IP on the virtual NETWORK adapter for Web server address

    Hi all

I have a physical Windows system, on which I run VMware Workstation 9. Now on VMware I run Ubuntu 12.10 a LAMP for a Web server.
    Problem:
Now, my local IP address for my NETWORK card virtual (using the Ubuntu one) at the address 192.168.159.7 and my router only emits the 10.0.0.x range IP addresses. So if I want to port forward to the virtual NETWORK adapter that has a 192.168 address, I can't, so my LAMP Web server are not accessible to the outside because the router does not send packets on port 80 to the virtual card... How to fix this?
The only way I guess that is to be assigned an ip address of 10.0.0.x to the virtual NETWORK adapter?
But how do I do this?
I tried to do it on the host from the Windows machine with "get my IP address automatically", but she emits an 192.168 address every time...
    Thank you

    Welcome to the community,

I guess that the virtual computer is currently configured to "NAT" or "Host-Only' networking! That would explain the 192.168.x.x IP address.

There are 2 options to be able to access the web server on the virtual computer.

    1. with "NAT" network configured

In this case forward port 80 to the IP address of the host and configure the port forwarding on the virtual computer in the "Virtual Network Editor. This way you can leave the IP address on the private network of 192 (if it is currently set to NAT)

    2. use "Bridged" network layout

Reconfigure the virtual NETWORK adapter to the machine virtual networking "Bridged" within the parameters of the virtual machine, assign an IP address from your router network (10.x.x.x) and do the port forwarding on the router directly to the IP address of the virtual machine.

What Virtual Machine virtual network card is map physical NIC.

    For example.

Load policy (default) Balancing - from the originating virtual port (it balances only outbound traffic through all the nic assigned to vswitch1 right?)

    ESXi host1 <-Vswitch1 (the VM network) <---(vmnic 0-vmnic 3)

Lets assume that esxi hosting 6 virtual machines and each virtual machine has two network cards configured.  Through some documents, come out of that when the virtual machine is running, it gets connected to the ports of availabe on virtual swicth. say, I turn on the virtual machine in the order VM1, VM2... VM6.

It would be great if you could explain how the virtual network adapters are mapped to the physical NIC Y at - it a command or a script to the list NIC(of all vms hosted on esxi) virtual NETWORK adapter mappings physical in detail.

With the virtual NETWORK adapter, you hear the virtual card inside the VM? If if and when you use several VMNIC like you, there is no visibility in vCenter (usually vSwitches, we see with Distributed vSwitches).

However, you can use the command-line ESXTOP tool in the view 'n', for the connection between the virtual machines and the outgoing vmnic.

  • Mapping of several physical network adapters to virtual network adapters

    Hi all

I am wanting to know how to combine physical network adapters to virtual nics in Vsphere 4.1. I have a gateway virtualized device that supports multiple WAN connections and balancing on these connections. The bridge is all authentication PPPoE/A, so I need to have separate cards for each PPP connection. So, how can I connect a physical NETWORK adapter to a virtual NETWORK adapter and have all access the same VM virtual NIC?

    Hope that makes sense!

    James

Right-click on the virtual machine, and then select change settings. On the Hardware tab, click Add, and then add the virtual NICs that you will need.  On the network connection screen, you will be able to select a network label which corresponds to VM port groups you created.

  • DC virtual in VMWare Server virtual network configuration

I'll put up a virtual AD network on a virtual server installation.  The host machine is supposed to be portable (i.e. the LAN IP will change, and it may be offline from time to time).  I'm trying to set up the first machine on my network, the virtual domain controller.  I don't know what to specify for the default gateway.

Currently, on the domain controller, IPv4 is configured as follows:

    1 = bridged network adapter

    IP address: 192.168.131.1

    Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0

    Default gateway: (empty)

    Preferred DNS: 127.0.0.1

    Alternate DNS: 64.71.255.198

Should I leave it like that, or specify one virtual network cards as the default gateway?

Without a default gateway, you will not be able to route to the DNS server that you specified: auxiliary DNS: 64.71.255.198

If you think you have all the traffic in your MS local virtual (hosting IE everything than ob this host and always keeping local traffic), then no DG not required, but I suspect you'll want to make the web etc as you go along, if you need a DG to be routable
