Impossible to locate or select network adapters in the virtual network editor - W2K8 host

I am running VMware 2.0.1 on a W2K8 64-bit host (with the windows firewall is disabled for now). VM images are all able to start and use the network bridged the host connection. I can access these images of virtual computer on the network, and even each image virtual machine running on that host computer has access to the public network.

My problem is that I have three network adapters available on the host, but I can't individually select one of them in the virtual network Editor. The "Automatic gateways" checkbox is grayed, outside, tab automatic bypass, and if I try to select an adapter to exclude none appear in the dialog 'Add adapters excluded' that opens. In the virtual network mapping tab VMnet0 host, is set to be filled to an automatically chosen adapter and VMnet1 & 8 are configured to use their default VMware network cards. If I open the selections from drop down menu to one of the network adapter 10 VMnets listed in the virtual network mapping tab host there is no available alternative.

Note: three network cards available on my W2K8 host server, one of them is a fault tolerant team consisting of two individual adapters and two other network cards are not associated. The team of the adapter has a network on our local network connection, but the other two adapters are connected to a private network. The fact that the images of the virtual machine running on that host are available on the network and be able to use the network indicates to me that my VMnet0 connection automatically open is finding and using the adapters together somehow (Luckily, by design?).

I installed VMware 1.X and 2.0 on many host W2K3 servers and never encountered this problem before.

If Win2008 follows a similar to Vista security model, then you must run AS administrator virtual network Editor.  Otherwise, you cannot make changes selections.

  • Trying to count the number of network adapters on the virtual machines

    Hi all

Have tried to create a script to simply count the number of network adapters in a virtual machine? In all honesty, don't have a clue where to start? I don't know there are a number of 'ownership' but can't seem to figure out how I can integrate this counting cards network

Thank you very MUCH in advance

    Munster

    Try this way

    $vms = Get-VM

    foreach ($vm in $vms)
    {
         $vm | Select @{N = "VMName"; E = {$vm.name} },
              @{N = "VMNICCount"; E = {$vm.Networkadapters.count} }
    }

Inside of the foreach loop, you select in each $vm name and County NIC.

  • Can not see the physical adapters in the virtual network Editor

I installed VMware Server 2.0 on my computer running Windows 7 64-bit edition Home premium.  I'm trying to make sure that the network card virtual vmnet0 only connects to my thread of material gigabit NIC, not my wireless card.  I went into the virtual network editor and none of my physical computer network cards are listed.  The bridge networks tab the checkbox next to automatically connect to the network device is checked and grayed out.  Any ideas on why my physical network cards are not listed.  Thank you.

    Hello

Are you running virtual network editor with "RunAs as Administrator"?

  • No network connection between the virtual machines on different hosts ESXi

I have several 5.0 ESXi hosts in a cluster managed by vCenter Server 5 and I have network problems:

    1. [Host A] running a virtual machine can ping any other computer virtual running on the [host A] great!
    2. A virtual machine running on host [B] can ping any other virtual machine running on [B] home - very well!
    3. [host A] (from the ESXi console) can ping any virtual machine running on [B] home - even better!
    4. [B] home (from the ESXi console) can ping any virtual machine running [host A] - beautiful set!
    5. A virtual machine running [host A] can not ping any virtual computer running on host [B] and vice versa - bad, very bad!

So basically the problem is that the virtual machines can communicate on hosts. It is a major problem that I need to fix, for obvious reasons.

Networking on all hosts is configured exactly the same way: a unique and standard vSwitch with a pair of gigabit network cards grouped, vmkernels configured for the vMotion, NFS and network management and a group of ports configured for the VIRTUAL local area network used by the VMs. (vMotion works fine on hosts, storage vMotion works very well too.) All virtual machines are servers Windows (2003 and 2008).

Reason #3 and #4 above, my assumption is that #5 must be the result of an ESXi/vCenter configuration issue and not a problem with the switches of material upstream. Is this a reasonable assumption?

Whatever it is, can anyone offer suggestions on how can I fix? It is quite annoying as I'm pretty sure that these hosts are configured in the same manner as those of our production cluster, which does not at all these problems!

Thanks in advance for any help you guys can provide.

To be honest, it looks like a problem with your physical network-

How is the physical network configured - are NIC connects it to the same physical switches? Are the virtual machines on the same subnet? If this is not the case, they are able to ping the gateway sbnet? Can you piing host IP address from the virtual machines?

I also moved it to a forum more approiate.

  • 2 networks on a host

    Hi all

I feel that this will be asked a million times more, but I'm fighting to get the desired results. My situation is as follows:

my host is running Windows 7 64 bit with VMWare Server 2. It is connected to my main network and is compatible with our physical domain on the network DHCP server and uses an IP 192.168.0.xxx. On this host, I would now like to run a virtual machine running Windows Server 2008 that is running on, say, a beach 10.0.0.xxx. As my host has two network adapters, I thought that this would not be a problem, but so far I could not get my other physical machine on the LAN test to communicate with the virtual server on my host machine. The test LAN is separated from the main office LAN, so I don't think that should be causing a conflict? I'm not too well versed in subnets, if my 192.168.0.x machine is on a 255.255.255.0 subnet, should I put my machines 10.0.0.x on a 255.0.0.0 subnet?

When I run the virtual network administrator Editor, I configured to not be an automatic bridge and assign the card Realtek (vne1 and vne2). But when I run not as an administrator, options rise differently (vne3) with the forthcoming VMnet0 as "Connected to an adapter automatically chosen", is this something that could go wrong?

I read with interest the recent thread http://communities.VMware.com/thread/290276 but can not make it work for me. I have too especially the two local networks to talk to each other, but I'm happy to take any solution anyway!

I hope that I was able to explain clearly enough, but if not, ask (:)

    TIA,

    Adam.

    Hello

Genarally is not possible. If you have two subnet in the same network then you need manageable or from a switch or a router to manage the two subnet in the same network.

If your LAN is 192.168.x.x series and VM is 10.0.0.x. in this case, you put satic ip on the local host you. intellectual property would be you local subnet (192.168.x, .x) then add the subnet of the virtual computer in your ip after that would be (10.0.0.x). do this activity you can communicate your local host on the virtual machine. but it's Temoreally Solution If you need then Permanent then u need to configure as I said above.

    Thank you

  • iCloud library is not available if the system library is located on a network file server

I moved my library on an external hard drive, that drive is directly connected to my router via the USB port.

I can make pictures to my library of photos and pictures of charge very well. I've set the library to serve the library system:

But, by selecting the option of using iCloud library gives me this error message "iCloud library is not available if the system library is located on a network file server.":

I have the ability to connect this external hard drive to an iMac which is used as a server, I just prefer not, but if it's the only option I want.

So in short, can I use this configuration? If so, why the error message and how to cope.

    Thanks in advance to all.

That's right - the library needs (for iCLoud, use of the library and for the safe operation) to be on a local wired connection - may not be on a network connection

  • Assign 2 network adapters to a virtual computer.

Hey guys, I'm going to implement Microsoft Lync and I'll be VMing the edge transport server.  The edge transport server needs 2 network cards on the server.  One from the firewall that will carry data for SIP trunk, as well as the other goes to the front-end server where it routes, archives, etc.  Attached to the post, is how I currently the have set.

    vswitch.png

When I boot on the edge (W 2008 R2) Server I see only a single network adapter.  I also tried to put the two cards on 2 separate networks of Vm, but I don't know exactly how this works for my situation.  Any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you for your time.

Now select the transport Edge VM of the inventory server.

Select the Summary tab and then choose the option change the parameters.

You can see an Ethernet card in the hardware list. Select the adapter and replace the "VM Network3" portgroup.

Add one more Ethernet Adapter (vNIC).

    Hardware tab click Add.

In the Add Hardware dialog box, select Ethernet adapters and click Next.

Select the "VM network4" portgroup and complete the process by clicking on the Finish button.

Now the virtual machine has two NICs connected to two networks.

  • Configure the virtual server to 2003 to use two physical network adapters on the host

I have a virtual server (Server 2003) that I'm trying to point two virtual NETWORK card to two different physical NICS on the host computer.  The two network adapters on the host are on separate networks, and I can't get virtual network cards to connect properly.

I use VMWARE Server 2 with the virtual network manager.  All good instructions would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you

Run the virtual network Editor.  Disable the automatic bypass.  Then, specify which of your physical NIC to the bridge to VMnet0 and specify the other physical NETWORK adapter on one of the switches (2-7, 9) unused VMnet.  In the settings of your virtual machine, select a virtual NETWORK adapter to be filled, and a 2nd we use custom connection and specify what VMnet switch to use (the one you filled the 2nd NETWORK card physical to).

  • Satellite A300 - cannot locate any wireless network

    Hi all

I just bougth today a Satellite A300, everything works fine except the wireless access. Ethernet access works very well, and the problem is not with my wireless device since it works with my old laptop.

It cannot locate any wireless network. It does not appear to be activated WLAN and I don't know how to enable it in the BIOS.

The swicht wireles on the front of the laptop is turned ON, but not the function Fn + F8 appearing at all.

    Can anyone help please?

What you mean with this WLAN is in the BIOS not enabled? Normally, you can change all BIOS options then try to activate it.
Also make sure that the WLAN switch is on and active with FN + F8.

The way around this is to map the network folder to a disc and use the drive letter.
In your case, it would look like this:

  • Photosmart C4780 installation fails to Select network

    Printer model: Photosmart C4780

Operating systems: Mac OS 10.5 and 10.6

    Method of connection: USB

Wireless network: Time Capsule from Apple (802.11b/g/n) and Apple AirPort Extreme (802. 11 b / g) with WPA/WPA2 Personal security and local access control (MAC filtering)

Problem: Try to set up a new C4780, I installed the software on three computers HP run two versions of Mac OS X.  I placed the C4780 next to two different base in the AirPort network stations.  I have the MAC address of the C4780 in each base in white list stations.  I tried also turn off all the access control and all the network wireless encryption/security (briefly).  I even tried to connect to my neighbor networks.  In all cases, the C4780 was connected to the computer via the USB port and the HP installation wizard has been run.  'Select Network' page, the list shows both of my base stations (with the same SSID) as well as two networks in neighbouring houses.  Any network is selected, the process "in search for the network" succeeds forever.  On some attempts, a dialog box shows the network is out of range (even if the base station is the printer inches), but most of the time the "network search" process runs indefinitely.  I looked in the newspapers of the two my network of base stations and found no attempt to connect from the MAC address of the C4780.  Light on the C4780 Control Panel indicates that the wi - fi radio is on.

I don't see any explanation other than a faulty radio in the C4780.  Any other ideas?  Thank you.

I don't know why you have two airports and if they are configured to play well with each other, but...

We will use the WPS from your printer and 8 function:

Start the WPS process from the front panel of your printer (network menu). Then:

    Open Apple Airport utility
    Select your wireless router
    Select Manual Configuration
choose Add Wireless Clients... in the menu of the Base Station
Select the first attempt, and then press to continue.
You must begin the process of Apple Add Wireless customer within 2 minutes of starting the printer WPS push button method. In fact, the order doesn't matter... you can start the process of adding on the Apple start router Wireless Clients then method push-button WPS printer.

Your printer will now be connected to your router. Now all you have to do is install the printer in System Preferences, Print & Fax by clicking on the button «+» Find the instance of your printer with "Hello" next to it and click "Add" when it becomes available. "

  • Network discovery does not 'on' when selected and recorded, all the answers?

I have some very annoying problems with my new network set up.

My network consists of a Belkin router type "n" (model F5D8236-4v2), the main PC with windows 7 32-bit OS, a wireless laptop XP, a machine of the PS3 and TV (model KDL 32EX403 =) Sony Bravia - hard wired to the router.

I want movies stream from my PC to the TV. laptop and PS3.

My PC (the principal server) see the laptop, TV, but not the PS3. He can see the files on the laptop and the laptop you will see the PC it cannot access any files or folders on the PC.

The TV can not see the PC, laptop or PS3.so no films can be heard of these components on television.

I tried everything that Microsoft and several forums have to offer, but to no avail.

One thing I noticed when trying to find a configuration to mitigate the problem, it's that when you go to "Advanced sharing settings" and try to change the setting of 'Network discovery' on IT, and then save this setting, it is up to the STOP after trying to save.

Please can someone help I'm quickly running out of hair to pull.
