dual boot 7 and 10 - what my software?

Once I put in place a system to dual-boot Windows 7 (current) and 10 will be all my software (everything is compatible) be automatically available to 10 Windows? If this is not the case, what should I do?

I intend to leave Windows 7 on my C drive and have already set up a petition on my drive D for Windows 10 - this creates a problem for Windows 10 find my software?

There are a few things to note here:

  • The free update will modernize your existing installation only. You cannot launch the free update on your installation of Windows 7 and say to install on the new partition you created. To do this, you will need to purchase a license Windows 10 and install own to that partition. Just so you know.
  • If you decide to go out and buy Windows 10 dual-boot both systems, then you will be able to install the separate disk. It does detect your Windows 7 programs.
  • If you want to check if your Windows 7 programs will be compatible, run the Windows get app and check the compatibility of that report. You need to install manually on Windows 10.

Hope this has helped

I tried the path of the CMD, but I could do things wrong with that because the news NTLDR appeared much too different info from Vista. Currently, I have deleted this change to the startup configuration. I want to know what I have to do to get these two to be able to boot. Hello Tevans95,

You cannot install two different operating systems on two different disks. For a dual-boot environment, you must install both XP and Vista on the same drive with different partitions.

In addition, you must install Windows XP first and then Windows Vista.

You can check the items below which will give you information on Dual boot.

    Install multiple operating systems (multiboot)

    Set up a dual-boot system

Change the default operating system for startup (multiboot)

There is no software that can help you to install XP and Vista on different drives.

  • Dual Boot Vista and XP in separate hard drives?

I currently installed on a hard drive in Vista and I have an extra which is 160 GB I want to install XP on so that I can dualboot both, is it possible?

Remember that there is no partition in question here.

The key which makes the task easier is to preformat the drive, assign a disk label (example: WinXP) and then launch the installation.

  • Dual boot XP and W7 on separate HD

I'm trying to dual boot W7 [drive C] and [F drive] XP.  I put what is drive to master F, it is an IDE computer, installed XP.  Then I install the C drive as primary drive, F as slave.

Since the installation of XP in this way the computer it C.  I entered in the registry, changed Version NT\Current HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Windows for the slave to F drive.  Did the same \Current Version HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Windows.

But when I start the computer and select the XP drive at startup I get a message FAILURE of NTDETECT.

What is this and how can I solve this problem.  Thank you.

Disconnect the player from Windows 7, install XP on the first (master) drive. Now connect the second (leave as a slave), install Windows 7 on the 2nd disk. Do not change the drive letters that Windows will eventually drive letter assignments.

  • Re: Problem of dual boot Win7 and WXP

I read the complete step by step how to Setup dual boot windows 7 and xp. I have all my partitions has prepared in advance and them labeled accordingly so there is no confusion.

I installed windows 7 on my new SATA drive. Everything went OK, except that I've never had a start this menu - at 7, it's like Windows XP Home edition was not there.
I downloaded and installed and ran, easybcd and tried to add the menu WXP manually entry. He asks the drive and the drive with xp on it is now Windows 7, drive D (when E is I boot xp).

All the necessary files (ntldr, boot.ini, ntdetect.com) are all on this disc. But when I try that menu entry, every computer is restart. It will start again than windows 7, unless I go into the BIOS settings and change the HDD boot order (in this list, if I do that with nr of partition Win7 1, I can boot windows 7 and only this, if I do that with nr of partition XP 1, I get my old regular boot.ini boot menu (what makes me also in my ubuntu wubi installation).)

I would like to be able to boot in Windows XP Home edition from the Windows 7 start menu, or, Alternatively, to want to boot Windows 7 Startup menu Windows XP Home (what would be even better).

    Are there directions for me?

    Thanks in advance.

I have more Satellite A300 with two hard drives and I've install WXP and Win7.
What you need is the Boot Manager. When you start your laptop, you can choose which OS should start, and one of them can be set as default OS so if you n t choose anything after 30 seconds, one of them will start automatically.

    I'm using Win7 OS default.
    > I would like to be able to boot in Windows XP Home edition from the Windows 7 start menu, or, Alternatively, would like > to start Windows 7 from the start menu of Windows XP Home (what would be even better).
I put t know if something like this is possible. If you want to change your OS, you must restart your laptop and start the second OS.

  • Dual boot XP and Windows 7

Hi all.  I'm trying to install win7 on a XP machine for a dual-boot.  Advisor says upgrade I'm good to go.  I have an E-Machine with a single processor core AMD with 2 GB of memory.  New active partition is 60 GB.  About 30% of the file extension that the screen turns into multicoloured blocks & installation breaks down.  Tried to copy the cd to a flash drive in case the disc was bad.  Arrived at about 40%, but the result was the same.  Custom installation uses to keep active XP on HD.  Any suggestions?  TYVM.  Brad

Do not always rely on the Upgrade Advisor.

Go to your computer / computer laptop manufacturer Web site and see if Windows 7 drivers are available for your make and model computer / laptop.

  • Set up the Dual Boot Xp32 and Xp64

I want to set up a dual-boot for my business environment, mainly because some of my hardware will not work with the 64-bit operating system. I currently have 64-bit installed, but cannot get the 32 bit version to install, once started, it won't read the disc (I put the CD-ROM as first boot device) should I wipe it and install first 32?  Thank you

Maybe it's a coincidence, but I have the same question 2 days ago on an old house built X Gamer computer.

It turns out that the SATA DVD drive necessary data cable be moved to a JMicron (completely illogical) SATA port controlled instead of the Intel ICH10R SATA ports.

What you can also try is pressed the space bar twice a second after you put first on the PC with 64-Bit CD already in the CD/DVD drive.

  • create partition for dual boot XP and Vista

    of the main C: partition
Install XP from my CD does not work, the 'install' option is disabled (write transparent)
I tried to assign an E: to the "new volume" and followed the footsteps of th GUI, but when it came to 'Finish', says assistant "it will change the primary disks selected dynamic disks, which are unable to accommodate any other operating system than the one existing". When I confirmed, I had the opinion that "this operating system admits no dynamic disks". Close.
Now did I have to distribute and formats the volumen again?
How can I install XP-Home Edition my CD and after that, go to the step by step guide to create the dual boot?

Hi Sescenti and thanks for posting.

There are a few problems with the senario that you describe. First of all, you can not install XP on a dynamic disk. You will need to format the dynamic disk to basic disk and install from there. After loaded XP you can then convert the basic disk to a dynamic disk, but you have to be careful because if you convery the OS main partition as dynamic you can never return to the base.

The second issue with your senario is that you first loaded Vista. If you do not load XP Yes, you can start, but because Vista was on the system, first you will need run the Vista startup repair whenever you start to XP (if you don't have some kind of Boot Manager).

I hope this helps. Let me know id, you have any questions and let us know if it did or did not solve your problem.

  • Windows Vista Ultimate: SP1 CD can not install for me to Dual-Boot 7 and Vista

    Hi I'm new here.

I have Windows 7 Ultimate on my computer. I have 3 drives, F: reserved system, C: (where Windows 7 is on) and blank D: 20 GB Partition.

I am trying to install Windows Vista, so I can dual-boot, but I get an error code saying that there is not enough disk space on my F: reserved system, but I try not to install it since their, I try to install from the D: drive.

So I tried another way, I Booted from the CD, and Setup continues. But, when I clicked on my D: drive it says it cannot copy files when going from 3%.

    Question:

    1. I did a wiped fresh clean installed Windows 7 Ultimate, and it created a partition of 100 MB. What's causing Windows Vista to install correctly?

    2. If Question 1 was the problem, do you think I should wipe my entire C: drive and erase the entire disk for Windows Vista to fix itself?

    Thank you

    New Member.

    I found the problem:

System reserved (f) had to be removed... (:

  • Dual boot XP and Vista

I have vista sp2, I have an update of XP, I also have Win 98, then I install XP and still have Vista? If I can't, I could just wipe the drive and just install XP, I try to get the old game ' keeper dungoen 1' work and I'm having NO luck with vista, as I lost my cd of vista!

Come on first, site of the manufacturer of your computer, check to see if your model computer has XP drivers available for it...

If the XP drivers are not available for your model, forget the idea.

You can not do a clean install of XP with a XP upgrade disk; you need a version of XP FULL.

  • Dual-Boot 7 and 8

I'm trying to set up a dual boot with the two 7 and. When I go to install Windows 8, I'm not showing partition 1 and partition 2 is called system and takes 300 MB. My C: drive that contains Windows 7 shows that the partition 3. So no matter what partition I add shows that the partition 4, which is dealing with s a drive extended. No idea where partition 1 is? I can't do anything with the system partition, except delete it. It is the only option available for me to choose. Thanks for any help I can get with this problem.

Yes then use Disk Manager to delete this volume/partition.

Run DiskPart , which will open a control of the interface text box prompt Diskpart command

List Disk to check the disc you want to use.

Select Disk 'x' to set the focus to the disk that you want to.

Create Partition Primary to allocate all contiguous free space to a new primary partition.

exit to quit. You can now use for format, label and assign a drive letter to the new partition.

Finally boot from Windows 8 support, choose custom installation and install Windows 8 on the new partition. The setup of Windows 8 will change the existing system to include new boot options. Don't forget no drive in the environment of Windows 8 letters will be different from Windows 7, but labels will carry through, so I labeled partition Win7 and the other Win8 to make it absolutely clear who is who.

If any built-in hardware is not recognized point option to update driver in Device Manager at the root of the partition of Windows 7 with subdirectories to search the existing drivers, which sets all my unknown devices.

What follows refers to Windows 7, but the same principles apply to Windows 8:

The following instructions will show how dual boot Windows 7 and XP on your machine instead of replacing one with the other.

It is important that you have a reinstall or repair disk in case you should reinstall or repair your installation of WIndows 8.

The following article will show you how to create a repair disk (Windows 7, the same instructions for Windows 8 references):

    http://notebooks.com/2011/02/09/how-to-create-a-system-repair-disc-in-Windows-7/

    Drivers for Windows XP:

You first need to know if your computer is compatible with Windows XP. Much more modern computers are gradually support for Windows XP.

    Create Partition

Open a command run (press Windows + R key) on your keyboard. Then type diskmgmt.msc, and then press enter on your keyboard.

Once the disk management is open, select the C:\ or where Windows 8 is installed.

Right click and click on the retractable menu.

Please wait while Windows 8 checks the available space on the disc.

Enter the amount you want to assign.

    Click OK.

The disk management window should display the unallocated disk space.

    --------------------------------------------

    Install Windows XP

In order to install Windows XP on the partition you created, you will need to boot into your BIOS, then set it to IDE HDD mode.

    --------------------------------------------

    After you set the IDE HDD mode, you can continue to install Windows XP on the partition you created;

Insert your Windows XP CD, and then restart your computer.

When you are prompted to boot from the CD, do so. To do this, press any key on the keyboard.

Windows XP will go into its configuration process.

Once you arrive at the welcome configuration, press enter on your keyboard to start the installation process

Press F8 on your keyboard to accept the license agreement

    Select partition

Select Format the partition using the NTFS file system

Press F on your keyboard to start the formatting.

Installation files will now be copied to your hard drive

Your system will be rebooted, the installation of Windows XP will continue

    ----------------------------------------------

After Windows XP installs successfully, you will not be able to boot in Windows 8, here comes the recovery for Windows 8 disc.

Boot from the DVD Windows 8

    (a) in the screen install now

    (b) click on repair your computer

    (c) click on Advanced Options

    (d) click on troubleshoot

    (e) click on startup repair

    (f) follow the instructions on the screen

    --------------------------------------------

After you have repaired your installation Windows 8 and try to start it, you will notice that Windows 8 will not start.

Boot into the BIOS again and choose the SATA hard drive mode. You will now be able to start Windows 8 again.

    -------------------------------------------

    After that, download EasyBCD and add a startup for Windows XP for Windows 8 boot manager entry;

EasyBCD by NeoSmart Technologies would be your answer, it provides a graphical front-end to the BCDEdit Command line that makes it easy for you to set the boot settings and change the entries start on the new Windowsboot Manager. http://NeoSmart.NET/DL.php?id=1

    ------------------------------------------

The next step is now make it possible for Windows 8 start in IDE mode.

Here are the instructions to do this:

    http://www.Vistax64.com/general-discussion/271218-switch-AHCI-IDE-tutorial-HOWTO.html

Welcome to all, so let me explain, I installed Windows 8 with AHCI set from the Bios, but after that I wanted to use ide (becose it starts faster) and when I put Ide from Bios, windows 7 loading screan camed upp and BSOD (blue screen of death) with a 0x0000005B error code, I tried the regedit setting thing in the 'HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESystemCurrentControlSetServicesMsahci' and then just pan the STARTING value 0 I have set it to 1 and it supposed to work, but it was a location, he always did the Bsod and I was so angry, I wanted to make it work... AND I DID IT!

    Here's the pases:
    (1) I assume that you have installed Windows Vista or Windows 8 with AHCI in the BIOS!
Download 2) my registry fix (to add keys to the ide to regeditor) simply apply the key
    (3) now manually part regedit go to:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE_System_CurrentControlSet_Services_Msahci
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE_System_CurrentControlSet_Services_iaStor
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE_System_CurrentControlSet_Services_iaStorV

And thease three keys in the right pan, you will find a key named 'START' change all three (Msahci, iaStor, iaStorV) values from 0 to 1
    Now, go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE_System_CurrentControlSet_Services_PciIde
, and then change the value of start on '0 '.

    (4) now that you're allmost done, restart your laptop computer and go to Bios and set between AHCI and IDE! Save the settings in the Bios and restart

    (5) Windows will be loading and VOILA! NO BSOD! , windows Vista / seven will install new Ide drivers and that you will see in the windows Device Manager you have more AHCI drivers, you have the Ide drivers!
(6), he is invited to restart another, just restart and you will be happy

  • Guide to dual boot XP and Windows 8

    Hey guys!

My boss recently bought a desktop computer of Windows 8 for the work.  Unfortunately, our program of irrigation works on Windows XP and that they do not plan to update the systems more recent.  I have tried everything by running it on Virtual Box to run the program in compatibility mode, and I get errors more than anything else.  I thought the best way would be just to get a license of Windows XP and the dual-boot, to not voiding the warranty.
And here I am... What do I do now?
    Thank you
    Danny

    Hello Danny,

Most recent PC running Windows 8 have EUFI the BIOS. To ensure fast works with BIOS EUFI inherited from start start is disabled by default. You can dualboot activating inherited from startup in the BIOS "but" the PC manufacturer dislikes do you that and if it's something as a manufacturer of my laptop, Samsung, you will be immediately void your warranty.

First thing I would contact the PC manufacturer to see if the dual boot will actually void your warranty. If so then you and only you take the risk that the manufacturer will not just want to know. If the warranty is not affected then the manufacturer can tell you how to activate the legacy BIOS.

Once the legacy Bios is enabled, you will need to create a new partition that will contain the Windows XP operating system. You also need to know if the manufacturer has drivers relevant to the XP operating system so that everything will work properly. If no driver is available, then you will have problems with the XP installation.

Installation of Windows XP is no different to the installation of any version of Windows. Just remember that XP must be installed on the partition that you recently created. If you don't it will install on the C: drive and too write your Windows 8.

The next major hurdle is to get the two to work. Because Windows 8 is already installed, you have a problem with the start menu. Plan technical XP must be installed first, then Windows 8 - obviously this sis something you can't do. Because XP is based on a file boot.ini and Windows 7/8 rest of the GPedit file, you will not be able to immediately run Windows 8. When you restart you will simply boot directly to Windows XP. To change the start option, I suggest that you take a look at this link: http://www.tomshardware.com/answers/id-1680664/dual-boot-windows.html#. In particular pay attention to this post by WinOutreach2 (May 24, 2013).

Personally, I have a feeling you might have problems with your warranty and also the difficulties to get XP drivers for your hardware, so you can easily solve your problem in the way that you want.
