I had to do a hard reboot after that that it froze, then I got the code "Windows did not start because of a computer disk configuration problem.   You cannot install two different operating systems on two different disks. For a dual-boot environment, you must install both XP and Vista on the same drive with different partitions.

  In addition, you must install Windows XP first and then Windows Vista.

  Nothing new added to comp.   I had the upgrade of WIndows 8 and updated my current PC to WIndows 8 (it was under XP).  Now, I find a lot of my games too does not Windows 8 I go account that my XP license is now gone because it has been used for windows 8 upgrade, but I have a second license XP on another older PC that I withdrew.  Can I install a second copy of XP on another partition of my computer upgrade Windows 8?  As we will install second OS that would generate the dual boot XP splash screen.  I would try this myself, but I don't want to try to install XP and find that I lose access to my Windows 8 install because he doesn't know what to do with Windows 8.  Any help would be appreciated.

  What follows refers to Windows 7, but the same principles apply to Windows 8:

  HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE_System_CurrentControlSet_Services_iaStor
  HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE_System_CurrentControlSet_Services_iaStorV

  And thease three keys in the right pan, you will find a key named 'START' change all three (Msahci, iaStor, iaStorV) values from 0 to 1
  Now, go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE_System_CurrentControlSet_Services_PciIde
  , and then change the value of start on '0 '.

  (4) now that you're allmost done, restart your laptop computer and go to Bios and set between AHCI and IDE! Save the settings in the Bios and restart

  (5) Windows will be loading and VOILA! NO BSOD! , windows Vista / seven will install new Ide drivers and that you will see in the windows Device Manager you have more AHCI drivers, you have the Ide drivers!

  Which is really strange that you can t start up disk even it s recognized in BIOS correctly...

  You have the Toshiba Recovery disk? If so, you can try this disc factory settings. If it works, it was just an installation problem.

  But I couldn't imagine also that the new HARD drive is not working properly last week I had a similar problem. Made a HARD drive upgrade, but a few days later Windows didn't start because the HARD drive had a bad sector, now I'm waiting for a replacement drive.

  I read the complete step by step how to Setup dual boot windows 7 and xp. I have all my partitions has prepared in advance and them labeled accordingly so there is no confusion.

  I installed windows 7 on my new SATA drive. Everything went OK, except that I've never had a start this menu - at 7, it's like Windows XP Home edition was not there.
  I downloaded and installed and ran, easybcd and tried to add the menu WXP manually entry. He asks the drive and the drive with xp on it is now Windows 7, drive D (when E is I boot xp).

  All the necessary files (ntldr, boot.ini, ntdetect.com) are all on this disc. But when I try that menu entry, every computer is restart.   What you need is the Boot Manager. When you start your laptop, you can choose which OS should start, and one of them can be set as default OS so if you n t choose anything after 30 seconds, one of them will start automatically.
