Duplicate files and folders in library

In my images and music library, I have duplicates of files and even all my desktop shortcuts as well as other duplicate files and folders.  I can't imagine how they got there, but when I delete one, I come back to my office or other locations where the file should be, and it has also been deleted here, so I have to restore it.  I don't know just what happens and would definitely appreciate help.  Thank you.  wannierob

I ask you to follow these steps:

    a. right-click on the folder and select Properties.

    b. click on the Customize tab and click change icon.

Note: this is only possible in the actual file location and not in libraries.

Note: the modified icon also appears in the "Library" view, you will need to close and reopen the file Explorer.

Hi people, I have a few hidden files and folders, which I was able to access the front and I used to click on the "organize tab" display, advanced settings, display the files and folders to hide or show hidden files.

Unfortunately, there seems to be a problem, I just can't access my hidden files and folders, even when I go through this method.

    Hi aaz911,

First of all, it would be nice of you if you post information on your laptop model and the operating system. This must be done always to get a detailed response.

In any case, I never heard of this problem, but make sure that all files will be displayed:
Start Windows Explorer > tools > Folder Options > view and enable the following options:
-Files and folders hidden: display the hidden files and folders
-Hide protected operating system files (this should be disabled > unbranded).

In addition you will find these missing files by using Windows search?

If this isn't the case, I suppose the files are deleted from someone or due to a virus. :(

  • Qosmio X 505-Q892 Desktop files and folders endangered

As indicated by the name of the thread I encounter a weird problem I've never seen before, I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this problem before where the files and folders on the desktop and files and folders within other folders just goes completely invisible are however still usable.

Last night I had some strange lag on my computer so I restarted, everything loaded up just fine. I went to load Firefox and an excel spreadsheet to update on my spreadsheet work, and nothing went wrong. Save the file and went to open one that follows and everything in the folder disappeared. It's like everything just went invisible, I tried to move all my old files to the new folder on my computer from an external drive, and he said that all the files are still there. So I rebooted the computer again, and my entire office was empty except for my trash, so I did a system restore to see if it would be useful and done it in a way, but it only is half of the files and visible programs still. Half of my files are still invisible, the information is there and other programs can access the information, I just can't access it myself via records (if it makes no sense to me).

Now, I know the difficulty more easy for this would be completely clean up the computer and start again, but I have no boot disks and that you don't have any idea how to get half of the drivers and all back, I'm decent with computers, but this part goes beyond the knowledge that I have. Any person in charge of helping a confused man? @. @ I just want to get my files usable again as they are normally...

It looks like Windows 7 common bug where it is not refresh the list of files. If you press F5, you should see the files appear.

  • Folder options - view the hidden files and folders

    Hello

On this same laptop, there seems to be a problem with * Folder Options - Show hidden files and Folders.*

Every time I have to 'see' this option to display - then I go back to check/confirm the changes - but the box is new 'unchecked '. Despite clicking on apply then Ok to save the changes. The changes are never saved...

I have used other laptops of this same option and it worked fine.

Please indicate if I need to apply or change other settings for this to work?

    Kind regards.

A reasonable explanation from Microsoft for this?

  • problem with the Finder - files and folders displaying incorrectly

After acquiring a new iMac, I noticed a problem with the Finder - files and folders are displayed wrong (see table).

This is what happens always after the files have been transferred from one folder to another. I was reminded of my days of using Mac OS in the 1980s when automatic setting of files was not so "automatic." I use Mac OS for decades and I don't remember the last time I had to think about GUI problems like that.

Other problems in the graphical display of files and folders were introduced, such as when you have hundreds of files in a single folder, you end up deleting about 30 to 40 of them say in a particular section, and you end up with gaps of the ChartSpace where files used to be, that is the remaining files automatically rearrange themselves (fill in these gaps) - never. A week later, you open the folder, and the gap of GUI is still there.

I decided to do a clean install of the operating system but nothing works.

Is there some setting in Prefs I'm missing?

    Hi there highland99,

Looks like your folder icons are not accommodating themselves automatically you plan to do. To me, this indicates that you have organize by the None value in the view menu. You can change the way files and folders are prepared automatically by clicking on view > reorganize by and selecting how you would like that fixed.

  • Files and folders in root appear in my folder of Documents and office

It probably happens on the Windows NT-based versions (has happened to me on a XP PC and a PC in 2000 that I intend to upgrade both of them soon). The files and folders of the program directory (C :) root Windows upward in the office and the folder My Documents. These files are not shortcuts and they show that they are located in the root of the drive, even if they appear on the desktop and My Documents. They can be handled then that mirrored to the root of the drive. I dropped a simple file to the root one test while it appears on the locations and then I deleted the file of the said test from the office and he left root. They don't seem to do anything when I click on them. It is not happened to me before. Does anyone know how to fix this? Is this a bug?

That is some progress.  Normally the desktop folder works the same way, where he will have a "location" at the top of the Properties tab.  This is a feature you'll see normally special "shell folders" as this (shell being the part of the operating system that see you, or the user interface).

If it has lost its distinctive feature, you can usually restore it quickly in the registry.

    1. First of all, make sure that you have a folder that is named "Desktop" in your personal folder 'username '. You will set the registry to use this folder as storage of office location.
    2. Keep Windows Logo type R to display the run box, type REGEDIT and click OK and give permission to the administrator if necessary.
    3. Navigate through the list of files (registry keys) on the left to find this place:
      HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders
    4. Look for the "Desktop" entry on the right (registry value), and double-click it to change data to be:
      %UserProfile%\desktop

The %UserProfile% is a variable that is everywhere where your current profile is stored.  Administrators and power users can use it to move their entire profile without having to define all those places individually.

    5. Click OK to save it, and then close the registry editor.
    6. Lot of windows completely and reconnect of re - initialize your user profiles and folder locations. Or just restart your computer, either way :)

At this point, right click and properties of the desktop folder should now have the expected location tab (let me know if not).

If you ever want to move these places, a little advice: make sure that you have specified a folder name.  In other words, do not place your Documents to store in just the G: drive. Instead, create a folder on the target drive and don't forget in the location (such as G:\Docs).  One last thing: don't try to define both 'special' folders to be stored at the same single physical location (do not set two in the same place).

Here is a picture of this registry on Windows 10 location, but these steps are the same, all the way back to Windows 2000 (maybe sooner).

Let me know how it goes, I hope that he gets all cleared up.

  • All files and folders show hidden after virus corrupted hard drive XP

I recently got a virus on my laptop which made all the files and folders hidden and says that my hard drive is damaged. I managed to get rid of the virus, but all my files are always hidden. I went to my computer and made sure all the hidden files are visible. This fixed the problem a bit. My main problem now is that all my files and folders are slightly transparent. It's a more of a nuisance than a real problem. I downloaded a program that would allow me to change each file in groups, but it would take an extremely long time to go by a record throughout my entire computer. I was wondering if there is any means possible to put all my files and folders hidden not Hidden to get rid of their transparency.

Unwanted copies have file names with
    copy "prefix of"?

    Example: Copy of IMG_1455.JPG

If_yes_maybe the following tutorial, I wrote
for XP offers a few ideas:

Also... There is a link to another method
at the end of this tutorial.

Here's how to reproduce the unwanted
    copy of...

Hold down your CTRL key and select multiple files...

Place your pointer over the selected group
(holding the key ctrl) and left click / drag
the group even just the slightest bit... now
    release the mouse button.

    Oooops... multiple copies...

    Maybe the following will help:

Sometimes most of the person who
trying to select multiple by holding the CTRL
or the SHIFT key down while clicking on the left to select the
    image files.

Copies are created when you are unable to
completely release the mouse button before
you move the pointer to another file. When a group
the selected file is dragged... even the slightest
release the mouse button will produce a bit...
copies of all the files previously highlighted.

It's a little easier if you have your folder
Options set at single click... that way you can
select/deselect a file with just a mouse more
and you don't have to click. For multiples you
I have to keep... CTRL or Shift.

Do not click on... no slip... no copy... maybe that of
your solution. To adjust the click...
Open a folder and go... Tools / folder
Options / General tab... Check... 'single click '.
To open an item"/ apply / OK.

If you want to delete all the files in a folder
    You can try the following:

Reach... Edition / select all... or type... CTRL / has...

With all of the files selected... go... Drop / delete...
or press your delete key... or... click on the

    of your image files.

Open the folder that the images are saved in and
on the left, click on the button 'Search' in your toolbar.

(If you view the files from a montage
program and do not know where the record is... right
Click on one of the image files and the menu...
choose... Properties. The path to the folder will be
in the tab 'General' to 'Place').

In the research pane select... "All files and folders".

In the "All or part of the file name" field. Come in...

When the search is complete... go to... Edition / select all...

You will see a dialog box asking if you are sure

Now... on the left, click on the 'Back' button in your toolbar.

  • where can I get additional icons for my files and folders in xp

I need additional icons for my files and folders on windows xp is there a site where I can download for free and instantly put them in the folder icon

    Hi Robert,.

I see that you want additional icons for files and folders in xp. I'll help you with this problem.

    1. What is the brand and model of the computer?

    2. what security software is installed on the computer?

    3. what icons are you looking for?

I suggest using your favorite search engine and look for all Web sites for free icons. You can download the icons based on the category and the icon you want. If you have downloaded a package of any icon, click on the downloaded zip file. The file will unpack once you click on it and reveal the subfolders as 'PNG' "ICO" or "Readme." Click the folder for the ICO to reveal the different icons in the package. Click on one of the icons to see what it looks like.

To make a shortcut to a folder and change the look of the shortcut icon:

1 - Open my computer and locate the folder you want.

2-click right on the folder and then click create a shortcut. If you are prompted to place the shortcut on the desktop, click Yes.

3-click right on the shortcut you created, click Properties, and then click change icon.

4 - Click on the picture of the icon you want the shortcut to use, click OK, and then click OK.

Let us know if you need assistance with any windows problem. We will be happy to help you.
